Amazing views, good customer service. Rooms are a little outdated but we didnt spend much time there. Restraint across the street is great and the pool was nice.

Loved our stay at the Colony. The owners are extremely nice. They start the fire every evening. The property is well kept. And the thing I noticed as soon as I walked into our cottage was how clean it smelled. The cottages are older but to hear some of the history of them was great to hear. They are locally owned and not corporate owned. That makes it even nicer to support the local economy and local owners. Thank you for making our stay great. Visited in Sept. 2020. 25 years earlier we had stayed there on our honeymoon. Great place to stay . The beach alone is worth every cent! Great for morning coffee walks. The cottages are Quaint Quirky and Perfect.

Stayed one night, July 27, 2020 this place was terrible!!! Bathroom door wouldn’t shut, shower in bathroom broke, pullout bed springs broken and missing. Advertised as Air conditioned rooms but only one small air conditioner in back room that didn’t cool the whole cabin and temperature in main room was about 90 degrees. We were miserable! Went to check out the next morning at office and owner was there in small lobby talking to customers. They require people to wear mask at facility but owner was not wearing one. When we brought up the issues with our cabin. He said that wasn’t his problem. He was VERY rude! While I was leaving the lady in the office came out yelling at me saying “and you’re a Trump supporter” (due to my mask saying TRUMP 2020). Would not recommend this place to anyone. $230 for one night and being told it wasn’t their problem that the facility was not as advertised is ridiculous.

Cabins were well stocked with most everything you need.Sanitizing was done ✅. Loved it so much we stayed an extra day.All week.Price was good, service excellent.

Maybe the best BBQ Ive had, I got the sampler, it came with 3 rib bones, pulled pork, chicken thigh, sausage, coleslaw and potatoe salad. but overall everything was very good. It is very popular so expect a wait, its worth it

We made a reservation for a week expecting an ocean view. Instead we had a view of the back of the owners house and a large rhododendron bush. DO NOT RENT CABIN 19 unless this is what you’re looking for. And no one helped us. They just gave us a partial refund and we left.

My husband and I stayed in cottage 15 for 2 night in middle of October. Our cottage was amazing. It was so cozy comfy and everything we needed. The beds were brand new. We could watch the sunrise from our little front porch! We will definitely be back and will definitely stay again. We have told all our friends that this is the place to stay when visiting Bar Harbor & Acadia NP. It was very clean as well!

Beautiful location and view. Heated pool is open till 9 pm. very quite area and the night fireplace is so fun. Good place to be with family where you could barbecue.. swim and have fun.

Place was clean and Charming. The owner is friendly and lives on site. Owner also starts a campfire every night and supplies plenty of wood to keep it going well into the night. Cant beat the price and location.

This is a very cute, rustic property. The cabins are old, but everything works and are well maintained. The staff were very nice and helpful. Awesome views of the water at the end of the driveway. Perfect location close to Acadia. Small, coin operated laundry room on site. Free parking. Family and dog friendly. We will definitely go back.

We had a great experience at the The Colony Cottages:1. Great location for the price! Close access to Acadia entrance as well as Bar Harbor.2. Many of the negative reviews mention the construction and how it added time to getting to the cottage. All I’m gonna say about that is that construction is not under control of the property, why should it come down on them? When we went construction was almost done. The one remaining detour took you through a beautiful back road in Acadia, why would you complain about that? Construction should be wrapped up soon either way..3. Understand these are cottages, closer to a campground cabin than a fancy hotel. There is ac/heat, running water, fridge and cable, but you are in a forested area near the park so it’s expected there may be some bugs in or around the place. Our room was clean other than a few ants.4. Staff was friendly and easy going!

Im not sure of the facility because I have never stayed there. However, there a couple of nice restaurants next door as well as a pizza shop. The view over the ocean is breath taking. Also, you are about a mile to Acadia Park.

Second summer here - great place for families. Cottages are very well kept and maintained. Within walking distance of restaurants, pizza, ice cream, general store, book store and even a wine & cheese shop. Great shoreline across the road to explore with your kids, and you cant beat the view. Has one of the best kept pool areas Ive seen. Acadias visitor center is less than five minutes away. Best place weve found for a family vacation.

Great local motel and cottages property. We stayed in the motel part. Room with 2 queen beds. Clean, spacious room. Had the basics done very well. Would happily stay again. Great location, VERY close to Acadia National Park main entrance and visitor center.

Stayed in the motel section and loved it. The room we booked had a nice king size bed. The room had plenty of room to relax. It had a mini fridge and a microwave included. The room was very cozy and gave you that cottage/cabin feel. Its located just far enough away from downtown bar harbor that you dont have to be annoyed with the sounds of people at all hours. The staff was friendly and very helpful with any questions we had. If you want a great deal for a great place to stay then look no further.

The location is great but they charged me for my room four months after I stayed there which was weird, unprofessional, and extremely inconvenient for me as someone who is really not financially stable and who has a seasonal job. Having almost $200 taken out of my account in January right before February rent was due was not cool. I stayed here one night in September and signed a receipt at the desk when I paid. I initially thought some fraud had happened or one of their employees stole my card information. Then to add insult to injury they seemed to act like this was no big deal, offered no apology, explanation, outreach, or a freaking discount. What kind of business does this?!?!?!?

I read the reviews prior to booking and I was sick that this place was a dive. There was no other options on the island except a hotel room which cost $537 per night as I was a last minute renter and this place had a last minute cancellation. When we got there we were pleasantly surprised. It was very clean and the staff was friendly. It was right on the water and it was a really cute complex. My husband and I both agreed that for the price we scored the deal of the island. Sure the road construction is a little inconvenient going back to the cottage from downtown Bar Harbor, but it is only a pain going one way. Plus as clean and as cute as this place was, it was worth the little inconvenience. I highly recommend staying here. Clean, quiet, cute, and the staff is friendly. Outstanding find to stay in!!!

Surprising little diamond in the rough type accommodations. I had read the reviews before I booked our stay here just to see what people were saying. Some were complaining that the rooms are dated. This is likely true depending on your interpretation of dated. As I sit here in my room, I feel very much as if the decor is that of the mid 70s and early 80s. However, given that I am sitting in a comfortable chair in a dry room with a view that takes my breath away I have to come to the realization that the attraction is not the hotel room. It is the stunning beauty that is Bar Harbor region here in Maine.Back to the hotel, it is clean, comfortable and odor free. The shower is VERY hot and the room has everything it should. Parking is easy and in front of my room. The folks who run the hotel are friendly, courteous and truly make you feel at home.So to sum up my review. If you are traveling to Bar Harbor to see the inside of a 5 star hotel room, then this is likely not your destination. if you are traveling to Bar Harbor to enjoy the sights, sounds and all that the region has to offer at a reasonable price, then this may well be your spot. The views of Mt Desert Narrows and Frenchmans bay are stunning, and the access to a private rocky beach only a few feet away are simply a bonus that most accommodations cannot provide.

Very friendly and good receptionist (Ms.Choice) very respectful and helpful. The room and rest room are good for motel as well as cottage. It has a nice view with sea shore and awesome sun raise. Its not sophisticated as such but good for a hill station stay

We stayed with Kyle for 9 days and loved every minute. Hes amazing full of information his eye for detail /heater in bathroom, fire pit, a landline phone, really nice bed and pillows. I recommend it highly. P.S real close to Acadia NP. You cant beat his personal touch. Its not Hilton its home.

Booked this hotel for a tentative trip up in July. I was told at time of booking that one nights lodging was non-refundable; however, I could apply the night to another stay this summer or next. Given that information, I went ahead and made the reservation even though my trip was not t definite. Being able to use the night next year sold me. Today, I called to cancel as my plans have changed. I was told that I can only use the night I paid for this summer. I was also charged 75.00 over the nights rate. Buyer beware this place will change the rules on a whim, are not interested in their customer, and from past experiences I can say they are very unprofessional. The place is old and dated and dirty. However, they take dogs, have a beautiful spot and used to be reasonably priced, so in the past I have overlooked a lot. No longer. Buyer beware

Very close to the beach and arcadia national park and lobster dinner restaurants. easy parking. rooms are small and old fashions(like using keys, have sofas, rocking chairs at front door facing the road) but all regular needed stuffs are in place(microwave, refrigerator, AC). Huge and cozy beds.

One good thing is the view. Right across the road from the water with a beautiful view. Stayed in the motel section. It was very dated. Not real clean. The bathroom floor sloped. If the construction is finished it would be a very good location close to Bar Harbor. With the construction we had to go all the way around to get back to the hotel. Close to places to eat. The exterior looks nice and maybe the Cottages are in better condition than the motel.

We loved the colony cottages. We stayed in cottage # 5 for a week. Everything was clean, a little outdated but really gave a cottage/cabin feel. Easy access to Acadia. Beautiful views from location as you are right across the street from ocean. Workers/owners were very helpful. Would definitely stay again!Disadvantages:- some doors did not close all the way (bathroom)- shower water was hot but did not stay hot for long- bad lightingJust needed some updates here and there!

The Colony is 3 or 4 miles away from the crowds in Bar Harbor, which is my preference. It takes less than 10 minutes to get to town, and a little longer than that to find a parking space if you time it poorly. The cottage is comfortable, although it shows its age in plumbing fixtures and the like. Our cabin is back from the road which helped keep it quiet. The road is under construction at the moment and we had to make a 15 minute detour every time we came back from Bar Harbor, but it wasnt that difficult. Our room was clean, and the only problem we had was a remote control for the TV that didnt work.

Right next to the coast line. We stayed there for two nights. The room was big and comfy. We were lucky that one morning the sky was clear and we got to watch sunrise sitting on our room’a sofa. The colony cottages office doesn’t open 24/7 so make sure you checked in during their business hours.

The Colony Cottages were very friendly,clean,comfortable and close to everything. Our cottage had a beautiful ocean view. I would definitely stay again and highly recommend it to others.

I reserved and paid for one cottage with the owner on 9/26/18 for stay on 9/29/18 till 9/30/18...My husband and I were very excited to spend weekend in Bar harbor...Night before our trip on 9/28/18 around 10 pm Kevin the owner called me to tell me that his wife by mistake double booked a cabin, and they dont have anything available. I couldnt believe what he was saying,we are all packed for morning...I asked him to cancel other party, he said he cant. Then he was offering me a motel somewhere and told me I have 5 minutes to make decision if I wanted to stay at that motel...he couldnt tell me the price or anything...he was very rude on the phone. Very unprofessional!!! Stay AWAY from this place!

Its clean. The people are so very nice - its like visiting family. Weve been going here for years and will continue to go for years to come. The view is wonderful. The location is real near the entrance to Acadia National Park. Its only about 3 miles from Bar Harbor.

We visit Bar Harbor frequently but had never tried The Colony Cottages. The cottage was basic but clean; the bed comfortable, and priced right. Frenchmans Bay is only across the road and we were treated to a beautiful sunrise at low tide. It was quiet when we stayed but at peak season that might not hold true.

As most people have noted, the cottages are old with a musky smell. The beds were fine. The carpets were pretty lousy. The bathrooms could definitely use some work. One of our cottages had the flush broken.On the plus side, the location is just perfect with a view of the backwaters. The TV is better than what youd expect. This would be acceptable if you will be spending most of your trip outside and just using the cottage as a place to crash for the night.

Beautiful accommodations facing the water. Clean and modern King room with comfy sofa, table and 2 chairs. Small fridge, microwave and coffee maker in room. 2 sitting chairs on patio to enjoy the outside. Nicely maintained grounds. Clean pool. Laundry room. Across from small private beach. Minutes to downtown Bar Harbor. Walking distance to small, local store/gas station and great pizza place.

Our stay at the colony was a wonderful experience. Our family rented two cottages, we were able to visit Acadia and Sand Beach just up the road. The owners had a 4th of July cookout for everyone, totally unexpected! The rooms were fully equipped with microwaves, coffee pots and a mini fridge. Bedding and towels were included. Between experiencing The shops and sites the kids enjoyed the pool in the afternoon and the view from our cabin of Frenchman Bay was gorgeous. So nice to relax so close to the village after the fireworks as well. Thanks for a great weekend!

We love this campy little cottage motel, discovered 10 years ago beem coming back ever since. Pleasant owner manager. Totally adequate and not fancy but great price and close to everything. Has view, pool, has variety of private cottages, pet friendly, they have also done an update to rooms tho far from an up-do. But again, what you need in a great spot, weve come here multiple times and love saving $$ so we can spend it on dining and acivities.

We stood here because it was near downtown and because of all the nice reviews. If I can give them zero star I would!!! 1. There was a mouse in the pool. 2.Baby crawled by the bed less than a minute and his socks and pants where black!! Disgusting! 3. On top of that the owner, KYLE charged me $52 for missing blankets! 2 DAYS after we checked out!!! Who would steal a blanket from this disgusting place?! 4. We had to buy our own bleach wipes to clean the bathroom. I could understand why they would charge extra, the owner is super desperate for money. The place was deserted! If you do decide to stay here, I highly suggest before checking out to ask someone who works there to go and check the room to make sure nothing is missing. Never again!!! The owner is a crook!!! When I confronted him he hang up the phone on me.

Great place. Wanted a place to stay for a few days with a pool, view of the beach, and it had to be close to Bar Harbor and Acadia. This was it. Very pleased. Little cottage. Clean, friendly, and so convenient. Acadias visitor center and entrance is literally 2 minutes down the road. The beach is visible as soon as we go out the door or look out the window. Pool was nice. Woulde definitely stay here again.

The cottages has a fantastic view of the water. The rooms are pretty adequate for the price, they have wifi, parking, a pool, and less than 10 minutes from the downtown area. If you just need a place to sleep between all the activities like going to the national park, this place will certainly make you happy at a low price.

You get what you pay for.. we stayed in the Motel. . Rm 70 right at the road. The view was excellent. Big window facing the cove..however... due to the construction, there were trucks and heavy machinery in front on the window for the 2 days we were there. To make matters worst, they would park the back-hoe in front of the window for each night?? The room was a nice size but very date and extremely musty. Allergies went crazy. Also found a couple of bed bugs the morning we left. Access to the beach was very difficult due to construction. Detour was REDICULOUS!! (11 days ago)

I just rebooked this year to stay again at The Colony.Clean spotless everywhere first class sleeping accommodations, just what anyone could expect. The motel is conveniently located on route 3 just down the road from downtown Bar Harbor and Acadia park / forest. I stayed in the cabin, which was perfect. It was very clean, quiet, spacious, and had a nice view. We had a small fridge, large enough for a few drinks, a microwave, and keurig machine. Directly across the street was the ocean (or cove), I wouldnt say its a place you would want to lay out on as it is all rocky and shelly but definitely nice to walk around. Within walking distance was 3 restaurants, a few stores, and a gas station which are all convenient when youre tired of driving and just to hang low. As you can see in my photos, our room had a bunch of windows which let a lot of light and fresh air in. The furniture was a lot more modern then I was expecting from seeing the other posted photos. Overall, it was a great place and I dont only recommend but I will most likely return. My only problem is that I needed wifi, as I had work to do during my stay, the wifi was terrible, worked well at some points and then not at all during other, this isnt the largest problem if youre just in the area for fun but if it is an offered amenity then it should be working well and it wasnt. It made me completing my work very challenging and frustrating.

This was an excellent mini vacation for the 4th of July weekend. Clean rooms, quiet area, good for kids, close to Acadia and downtown, AC, really accommodating, even allow dogs! They held a free BBQ on the 4th too. A+

So happy to pull up to this motel on my anniversary only to discover I have to take an 18 minute detour because of road construction. While there is nothing they can do about construction, this should have been disclosed to me when I called to make the reservation so that I was aware of this major inconvenience. My fault for not being suspicious when the gentleman who took my card over the phone told me 3 times that my 1 night deposit was nonrefundable. To make matters worse, when we finally got to the desk clerk she had ZERO sympathy or understanding. She flat out told us well theres nothing I can do about the state construction and you must have got the wrong way on a the detour because its only 5 miles (thank you I can read bright orange signs and 5 miles can easily take 20+ minutes with traffic around here) she was then very quick to remind me of the non-refundable fee that I had already paid and point blank said are you staying here or notThis place has questionable ethics, a bad attitude toward their very few customers, and the bath tub has bugs and mold in it.Save your money and stay far away.**2 hours in, there are mice running through the walls**

If I could give them no stars I would cause they dont even deserve one!!!! This place is absolutely disgusting everything was completely dated and showed its age too. The were holes in the carpet (BIG ONES) paint chipping off almost every wall, and there was bugs getting in the doors because they were not sealed. The bathrooms had mold in them and the one toilet just ran continuously which could be why there was severe water damage on their floor in their. The two super tiny fridges were gross and looked like they hadnt been cleaned properly and the one didnt even work and had mold in it as well as the ice tray. We didnt even sleep on the beds we slept on an air matress we got because everything was so gross. If I can save one person at least from a completely disgusting place than Ill be happy DO NOT waste your money on this overpriced bug ridden disgusting place.

We were satisfied with our duplex cabin. It was rustic and appointed mostly as described. The cabin had minor maintainance issues that needed attention such as a shower and bathroom doors that would not close all the way. Those issues were nothing we couldnt live with. Our one complaint was the lack of wifi. The cabins were advertised as having wifi. However, it did not work at all in our cabin at the back of the property. We stopped by the office for resolution and were told yeah the wifi sucks. I needed to send in payroll while I was here so it was very inconvenient not to be able to do so. We would have had no problem if it had been advertised as only being available in certain places on the property.

Cottage comfortably fit our family of 5. Our cottage was clean and had a fresh coat of paint on the inside. We also had a new tub/shower with good water pressure. Fridge is tiny and there is a Keurig coffee maker. 1 room had a wall ac unit. Advertised free wifi is spotty at best. There is 1 tiny shared firepit for the whole site. There are a few picnic tables that are also shared. There are bbqs that they rent but no kitchen supplies or utensils.

We checked in late, quick shower, no water pressure. Had to change rooms next day, booking error, was put in duplex next door to barking dogs. Complained but it was the owners friends with barking dogs. So....the move was very inconvenient considering we had to be in Bar Harbor 7am for Whale watching. Had to load up car that morning and check out. No one at office and no key drop place. Left key laying on handle. Came back after, we were exausted abd had to move into second room. Woke up to get shower, no running water. No one had water. Still no water. Had appt for excursion. Very unhappy. Pictures are deceiving of this place to..windows were oped when we arrived due to musky smell.

The so called owner of this place was so disrespectful and rude ! He was not accomodating at all . I would not recommend this place only because of the service and the mean owner !

Please note: We did not stay at the property. We had planned our trip to Bar Harbor on the weekend after Harvey struck Houston. My wife lives in Houston, the airport is closed and it is unsafe to travel even within the city, therefore we had to cancel our plans to travel. The management was very kind to us and made an exception for us to their cancellation policy and made full refund of our reservation.
