We stayed at cottage 3, what was basic but clean, obviously recently renovated and mostly enjoyable. The only note that there was no running cold water in our kitchen and we had to get it from the bathroom, but we managed. My wish is that management should take better care of your visitor’s needs and respond faster. Provide matches or lighter to those cottages who have gas stoves; fix plumbing before, not after they leave.

Rating 1 because can’t do negatives. Worst place ever stayed at in my lifetime. Don’t be deceived by the photos or the website. The cottage we stayed at was barely standing together infrastructural the doors and the windows were broken. There were no locks in any of the door, just the entrance door and it was a glass door anyone could have broken into given the condition of the glass. Nothing was clean the carpet, the sofa and even the beds were stinking and had pet hairs and what not. We couldn’t get rid of the smell even after emptying couple bottle of room freshener and deodorant sprays. The size of the restrooms were so small to barely fit a 6 foot person . There were no toiletries provided and even the towels were torn.All type of BUGS that exist in Maine you could see them crawling or flying anywhere you step. The only good thing I think in my stay was checking out.

PLEASE READ THIS…I wish I could give negative rating.Worst experience I ever had in my life. We would never go back. I prefer to stay in my car or parking lot instead of staying in the cottage. After hiking and walking for the whole day people look forward to going to their cottage or hotel and rest but I would rather hike all night (I am not much off a hiking person). The cottage was so smelly and dirty that my perfume wouldn’t last more than 5 mins. We would have moved out on our first night but there was no vacancy in other hotels. Hairs, different kinds of bugs, stained and torn couch and mats, torn towels (seemed like they were never changed since they started their business), broken bathrooms, toilets, and disgusting than anyone can ever imagine. No locks on any doors, had to use a nightstand to keep the door close. A/C and heater were broken. The cottage was never cleaned and had leftovers in the fridge from the last guest who was staying there. The stove was nasty and utensils were 100 years old and never washed. No microwave. We brought this to the owners attention but he didn’t seem to care.I wish I had taken some pictures to show you guys as a proof that google or website photos are fake and are taken 30 - 50 years ago.I thought about going back and taking some pictures but didn’t feel like steeping in that cottage again!!!!!!I think I won’t have COVID or DELTA VARIANT anymore because I survived the more worst types of bugs or viruses after staying in that cottage.“ Dreamwood Cottage only in owners dream not in my dreams.”

Staying in your car is also a better decision than staying here!Firstly the place stinkssss, really really bad. No matter how much perfume sprays you empty, the smell just doesn’t go away.Restrooms were soooo bad and yucky that I would even prefer going to gas station restrooms! We also faced bedbug issues.Owner does not care about the complains, the cabins are only a money-making business for him.Google photos are FAKE!!!! The place doesn’t even look 1% like the photos, it’s much much worse.Forget about cooking food in the kitchen, it stinks so bad that you cannot even sit on dining table and eat outside food!We were a party of seven and stayed there ONLY BECAUSE WE HAD NO OTHER OPTION. Please consider this review before booking your stay here!

Adding 1 star because there’s no negative star system. This was one of the worst stay I have ever had, would not recommend it at all. The owner don’t seem to care about the guest and their own property. Cottage smelled very bad, and wasn’t hygienic at all. We requested owner to send someone to do something about the smell and yet we didn’t get the service.We booked this cottage based on the photos they have posted on their site but in reality it’s totally the opposite, very dirty and smelly. Bathrooms were not at all spacious and clean, we preferred using cafés & other restaurants restrooms. We didn’t feel like coming back to cottage after our day long hikes, since we didn’t have an option we had to stay here just for nights. It was scary place to stay at nights as there were no locks on any doors plus they had glass porch so anyone could break in. THERE WERE LOT OF BUGS IN EVERY ROOM SO PLEASE DO NOT CONSIDER STAYING HERE.

We mostly enjoyed our stay. Our cabin was clean, with the exception of utensils left in the sink and the linens. These are very basic cabins. We never turned the tv on, so I have no idea if cable or internet were working during our stay in July 2021.I would make some simple recommendations to the owners - though, based on reviews, it doesn’t seem they read these-Replace the sheer curtains in the bedrooms. The cabins are rather close together and people want privacy. Also, some of the lights outside the cabins are blindingly bright!Stop offering linens - the towels we were given were clearly towels left behind by other guests. While they appeared to have been laundered, they were ripped and stained. The sheets were also stained. We ended up going out and buying our own linens and spent a few hours at the laundry mat.Put hooks in the bathroom - there was literally nowhere to hang towels.Replace plastic shower curtain liners - while I appreciate that they were clearly laundered, they become very hard are no longer pliable. Water gets everywhere.Create a check list for between occupants for maintenance/cleaning - many of our light bulbs were dead. Dishes left in sink from former occupants. The living room ceiling fan didn’t work…all simple fixes if owners are informed and/or want to make the simple repairs.The location is fantastic and with the exception of the linens, the cabin was clean upon arrival. For the price, I thought it was pretty decent.

Pictures doesn’t match website. Was stinking soo much air fresher didn’t even work. I wouldn’t recommend to stay here. Worst place to stay even for 10 minutes don’t think you can survive for a weekend.

Mice!! Bought traps after they ate some of our food and left droppings all over. Husband then found several traps behind fridge (not set) near hole in the floor! Window air conditioner not secure leaving several holes for bugs, mice etc to enter. Musty smell that permeated all luggage/ clothing etc.. No TV service but who would want to sit around there? Very disappointing!

DO NOT BOOK HERE!I searched for cabins on MDI with a screen porch and no carpet. This was — very unfortunately— the only one I could find. Stayed one night in a cottage reeking of moth balls and must with absolutely no privacy. Shades are bamboo and transparent.Wish I had read the reviews!!!! As others had stated, owners DO NOT CARE! Would not refund half of second night as their cancellation policy states. Moing on and leaving our money behind. Very poor hospitality.

I have stayed there twice with just me and my wife second was with me and wife and her aunt and mother it was awesome they really went out of there way to help us boil lobster one night very great ppl and when I go back with my loved one I will only stay there. Great ppl even tho there was no cable...

Would not recommend. Had a good stay here years ago, but the owners no longer seem to care about their guests or their property. When we arrived and prepared to cook dinner there was a gas explosion on the stove. The owner seemed unconcerned and only allowed us to switch rooms after I demanded a move, and he had witnessed a 2nd explosion when he tested the stove. We cancelled the rest of our stay and moved up the road where the owners were attentive, accommodating, and kind (all attributes missing at Hinckleys).Dont waste your time here

A very wonderful and affordable place to stay on the island. Close enough to the park and Bar harbor. We stayed in cottage 3 which was perfect for me and my husband. Newly renovated with full kitchen and bath. This made it easy to make meals if we didnt feel like going out to eat. The cottage was very clean and someone was around everyday to clean and provide fresh towels upon your request. The owners were very nice and helpful. Gary the groundskeeper was super accommodating and knowledgeable of the history of the area. A downfall was no fire pits at the cottages. I believe this is a rule of the island though. They do have a community campfire near the office which was nice. I give this 5 stars because it was affordable, clean, and the location. We will definitely be staying here again next time we come into town.

We stayed for a long weekend in cabin 21 and we will definitely book this cabin again next year! Nice place for couples to unwind and relax!

This my 2and stay here but will never go again. I knew they were rustic basic cabins and was ok with that. Upon checking in I was told they shut the cable off as they couldnt afford it. This would have been nice to know BEFORE making a reservation as we did have our 6yr old child with us. We were already there so what were we going to do. We figured well theres wifi...well manage. No wifi. The straw that broke the camels back was when my husband stepped near the bathtub and his foot went through the floor! It was nighttime so what were we going to do especially with a child. We stayed the night but left in the morning. Of course they would not give a refund. Weve contacted the code enforcement officer!

I would definitely recommend Hinckleys! The cabin we stayed in was newly renovated, and very clean and comfortable. Cleanliness is the most important factor to me when staying somewhere, so I was very pleased. The owner was very friendly and seemed very honest. She had a couple of cabins left and offered us our pick. I would highly recommend it, and would definitely come back!

As another wrote, we were attracted to price. Cabin was very dingy/dark. Holes large enough for chipmunks to get through front door. Bathroom floor had holes in linoleum. Only heat in cabin was 3 from the bed(it was October and chilly). No microwave in a rental w/kitchen! The bed was extremely lumpy. Our first trip to Acadia was cut short due to a poor rental choice!!!

Dont get the house, it is creepy!

Well my wife and I booked a 3 night trip with our dog. ON OUR WAY THERE, they called us to say that we couldnt stay in the cabin we booked with our dog. They could only accommodate us for 2 nights in a different cabin that wasnt very nice and the people were not sympathetic at all. Its a great location and the cabins were decent but they really could use some work on their customer service. Will not be going back.

These little cabins were perfect for our family. Our son was 14 months old at the time, and I loved that the kitchen and bathroom had doors we could shut to keep him out of those places. The screened porch had a latch on the front door as well so he was able to play outside without worrying about bugs. The cabins are located next to the road, but overall it was actually really quiet and we found ourselves enjoying coffee and breakfast out on the screened porch in the mornings. The owners were wonderful to work with, loaning us the grill & charcoal. The pool was very clean, and we werent bothered by loud neighbors. The cabins are within walking distance to a restaurant, mini golf, and a really awesome ice cream parlor. Dont worry about bringing pots or pans, bowls or spoons....these cabins are stocked with everything you need! Our cabin also had a fan, AC unit, a TV, free WIFI, communal fire pit, and fireplace (which wasnt needed in August, but theyre functioning). We spent most of our time out exploring the downtown of Bar Harbor or hiking in Acadia, so we spent the evenings at the cabins which was the perfect ending to our days. We loved our experience so much, we decided to stay an extra night which the owners were able to accommodate! These cabins are a wonderful value, and perfect if you are wanting to spend most of your time with family, or experiencing the outdoor wonders that Acadia and Bar Harbor offer. We frequently look back on our experience and would come here again in a heartbeat.

This cabin, #5 should not be rented. It is need of a major make over.. old TV, no plugs, old bathroom was very off putting. We should have looked at it first we would have not stayed. We were motivated by the price, not worth it. 😕

Reasonably priced cabins close to downtown. If you are looking for modern style I recommend numbers 6, 11, 16, or 14. Amenities include coffee maker and filters, silverware and dishes, cookware, body and hand soaps, AC, TV, and screened in porches. you can request a grill. Fresh towels, trash removal, vacuum, bed make up, and bathroom touch ups daily.

Well dont judge a book by its cover. We stayed in Cottage 21, just for 2 and I was rather surprised by the interior, well thought out for a small space. Air conditioning or a fake, but impressive electric wall mouted fire place. Will be going back next year.

I have been staying here since 1977 an we have always enjoyed ourselves because of the laid back atmosphere . We have stayed in many different cabins an have never had any problems. The families that have owned the place have always been hospitable an did what ever they could to make our stay enjoyable. My step fathers families stay here since 1945. This is an old establishment but has many renewed cabins. We have always had a great time when we go.

The pool was the first thing we saw when we arrived and it was dirty and not open for use. Its labor day weekend and going to be hot!?!?!The cottages had mouse droppings in them!!! Would not ever recommend!

Stayed here for 4 nights just a week ago in July 2016 and will stay here again. Loved it. The owners are great. Very unassuming place. Simple, quiet cottages near the best that Acadia has to offer. If you want true Maine, without all of the fuss, at a great price, stay here. Cannot ask for anything better.

Stayed in Cabin 8 for 3 nights. Our first time visiting Maine. The owners were helpful and courteous. Kids liked it and it was a quiet place.

Very spacious! Quiet and clean. The owner was nice and attentive. It was a bit outdated, BUT very affordable for a family on a budget! The amenities: full kitchen, spacious, two bathrooms, utencils, TVs, AC, and mutiple sleeping and seating spaces, enclosed porch, etc. Plus, your own cottage! It felt like we had our own house! No hearing neighbors! And no neighbors hearing the kids! Very private. Truly enjoyed my stay and so did the kiddos! We will definitely be coming back!

I stayed in this hotel on a Saturday night in July, when almost every other hotel in the area were full. I stayed in cabin 5. The cottage design was nice. The bed was comfortable. But the room and bathroom were not clean. It is OK hotel for 1 night stay only.

We had a wonderful stay. The proprietor was a true host and gave us many excellent recommendations. If ever we return, we will definitely want to stay here again.

A wonderful place me and my wife spent our honeymoon here. Fell in love with the place the first two nights. Staff is awesome and helpful. With a great atmosphere. we are definitely going to be back here next year for are anniversary. Hinckleys makes you feel like you are at home. Same time next year.

I was disappointed by the cleanliness of the facility and the friendliness of the staff. They seemed unorganized and flustered when we checked in and would ask a question. I couldn’t tell the last time they had washed the bed comforter but it didn’t look clean to me. I had to request that they change the sheets every day instead of them doing it automatically. Overall, we were very ready to leave when our reservation was done.

Do not stay here! They have a grounds man who likes to peek through the cottage windows. Their excuse is that he is drunk. Spend more dollars to keep your kiddos safe!!!

The location is awesome! Only a mile or two away from Acadia National Park Visitor Center and a couple more from Bar Harbor. Also, its not too far away from Trenton and Ellsworth which is nice too. I brought my 2 dogs on the trip with me and the staff was so sweet to them. I defiantly recommend this place

Very cute cottage! loved the remodel! Missing small amenities like shampoo, conditioner & coffee. Those small amenities would have been very helpful to us since it was a last minute decision to stay.

I have nothing wrong with MJ but the overwhelming Aroma is off-putting to families coming to stay for a vacation the owners are definitely out there thats not necessarily A Bad Thing very cozy cabins well maintained

Stayed in a newly renovated cottage. It was very clean and quaint. The two owners were very friendly and nice as well. Would highly recommend staying here.

We had cabin 16. It is really nice for two couples. Lots of living space but seating for eating might be an issue for a larger group - for two couples it was fine. We wish it had a microwave.A great affordable base for visiting Acadia.

Dreamwood? more like nightmare wood. Ill tell you why. we were stalked. here is the the story. many times at night I heard the bathroom windows creaking. obviously thats not enough evidence is it? at 11:00 pm my mom went outside to pack up our stuff because we were leaving. she then found out that the lawn chairs had disappeared . she walked around the cabin to find the chairs. she found them under the bathroom window. she took the chairs and returned them to there original location. thats when things got horrifying. she saw a guy creep around the cabin. once he saw my mom was still there he ran to the road. my mom called the police and then found out that the guy was drunk since Friday and we arrived on Sunday. how long was he looking in our windows. we also found out he worked and lived there.

Horrible mold smell. Couldnt stay. Very cold with poor heating. Room want cleaned and staff had gone home for the day. No refund so are out $100 even though we didnt stay. Do not recommend!!!

We always stay here in Acadia. Cabins are rustic but exactly what you want after youve spent the day hiking and want to unwind. Plus, its within walking distance to mini golf and ice cream!

We were already in town when we popped in to see if we could get a room for the night instead of packing up our tent in the rain. The price was slightly less compared to other local cabins and we were offered a better rate if we stayed more nights. The little cabin we got was super cute and just right for the two of us. It could have easily accomodated a small family, too. I would definately suggest staying here.

My family and I have been going here for many years now. We love it there and always enjoy the cabins we have stayed in. Great place to come relax and rest after a day of hiking! We plan to keep staying for years to come!

We have been coming here for 35 years when we visit Bar Harbor. This time we had our 10 month old German Shepherd puppy with us. The owners were great and we loved our stay. Wouldnt think of coming to Bar Harbor and not staying here.

Just reserved a cabin for the 5th time. This is our favorite place to stay when we go to Maine. We travel with a dog, this year will be two dogs and this place meets all our needs. The owners and staff are fantastic. If you are visiting Bar Harbor/Acadia support family run businesses, you wont be disappointed!

We stayed in a 4 bedroom cottage which was not cleaned. There were dog hairs and sand on the floor and also on the couch.There were many wires on the floor probably connecting TV (not safe for kids)The description online said it has AC. It turned out that there is a small AC in the hall way between 3 bedrooms and none of the rooms got any cooling. After requesting, we got 2 fans only to be shared between 4 bedrooms during 4th July weekend when weather was Hot.No basic toiletries in bathroom except for 1 small hand soap. The picnic bench outside the house was super dirty. It took about 20 mintues to clean that up as we were planning to grill outside the cottage. Btw, no grill over there so we had to use our own grill. Overall, not a good experience at this place.

I absolutely love the owners and the cabins have been nicely renovated and decorated. If you want a break from your typical hotel room this is the place to stay.

Its okay. Kind of dingy in the cheaper cabins. Needs more lighting and maybe some updating. Is dog friendly but they tried to charge us extra money for the dogs being on the beds. They werent and had no problem taking the charge off. But we stayed here for our wedding and we left the top of our wedding cake in the fridge and returned 30 mins later to get it and the staff had it in the back of her car like she was saving it for later...

Quaint, affordable and efficient.

To be fair to the location, all other cabins are excellent as far as we can see. The house on the other hand needs major repair. There are broken windows and the house would need great repairs. There is wifi available at the other guest cottages but not at the house. The staff was good. The beds were fair but the rooms had missing curtains so it was hard to find places to change except the tiny bathroom (we were a group of 10). The price was fair for a house without broken windows, wifi and curtains.

The place is very laid back and John and Vangi are great hosts.

The cottage was more like a shack in the woods! The cottage smelled old and like mildew. Then, after staying the first night the hotel staff informed me that they had a propane gas leak! It was very outdated with old, mildewed furniture and appliances! We had to leave the windows open to air the cottage out, but the screens had holes in the them which let the mosquitoes in. The floors were dirty and sticky. The ceiling tile was falling down in one of the bedrooms. And the hotel staff stole our food and drinks from the refrigerator!

I was there to pick up a friend. The cabins are a bit rustic, only working great is in the bathroom.

Comfortable environment and friendly service. Would book again. :)

Everything about this experience was lousy. The place was dirty. Crammed, without adequate parking. The blinds didnt work. When we wanted to change our reservation and leave early, they wouldnt give our money back. Stay away from this dump.
