I was a prospective tenant and set up an appointment for a tour. However when I got there the doors were locked with instructions to call to enter (reasonable during covid). However I called 4 times with no answer, left a voicemail, and called back the number I used to make an appointment (staffed by a person at a remote location who was nice but unable to help). I never got a tour, nor was I ever contacted again.I have seen these apartments previously and the guy at the leasing office at that time was great, though the apartments were small and overpriced. However my more recent experience has left a bad taste and I would not recommend trying to deal with them.

In all honestly, The James Apartments is the most INVASIVE place I have ever lived, and I’ve lived a lot of places. Every other month they do work. All of the access panels are in your closets and built behind places you would need to put furniture, and every other month they have to get to ALL of them. It’s like I’m re-moving into my apartment every other month with how much I have to rearrange furniture for them to access them. I would never recommend living here, ever. It’s such a waste of money. The workers are inconsiderate: wear dirty boots that leave tracks you have to mop up after, set up ladders and set their equipment on all of your furniture. I have NEVER experienced such lack of regard for personal space. I feel like I live in a dorm doing routine security checks, making sure no one is smoking weed or having sex. I would recommended literally ANY crummy complex/unsafe neighborhood over this because at least living in squalor you’d have some privacy. We are moving in three weeks, but changing the air filter for the 6th time this year just couldn’t wait and neither could checking our water pressure??They tout convenience and I can say very plainly: that’s a damn lie.

I loved The James! I wish I had been able to move in but my job switched my location at the last second before I was able to sign my lease. Alicia and Sandra were so sweet and did everything they could to help me throughout my application process and getting me measurements for the apartment I intended to move into.If I ever move back into the Norfolk area, I will be sure to visit them first! Everything from the staff to the finishes were just amazing and the location was prime!

I don’t usually leave reviews but I have to make an exception. Save yourself the time and frustration and live somewhere not owned or managed by JJB.-they don’t take security seriously at all. Doors to the building are propped open or left unlocked frequently after hours. Management has not fixed this issue despite knowing about it for months.-management doesn’t communicate well. If you send an email, don’t expect a follow up. If you talk to someone in the office, assume they will put off addressing your concerns and do not expect them to pass along any information to their coworkers.-JJB canceled every resident’s autopay just before rent was due when they replaced Drucker and Falk, and then applied penalties to any resident who didn’t pay on time (who obviously thought they had autopay still set up!) and did not refund the charges-facilities are new but constructed poorly with cheap materials. Cabinets were painted so hastily that there are splatters if paint on the floor. The wood floor slats separate from each other. The paint on the walls is a chalky texture that picks up every smudge and is impossible to clean. Oven doesn’t circulate heat evenly.-plumbing leaks often. The repairs are never permanent fixes. After a “repair”, if water leaks onto your hair dryer/straightener/anything stored in the cabinet, they will not cover the cost of replacement.-old windows are so drafty in winter you can feel a breeze. They will not cover installation of any caulking or insulation.-the gym is really just a single treadmill.-almost every 1BR requires you to pass through the bedroom to reach the bathroom, which is awful for having guests over.I have lived here for nearly a year. I wouldn’t recommend this building and would warn against any building owned by JJB.

Friendly staff, and they make a good effort communicating events or changes to tenants. I went for a fully furnished unit.
