Squire Hill is awesome! Everyone at the leasing office is incredibly welcoming and responsive to my needs. The maintenance team comes to fix things very quickly and are always super nice, they are the best! Their amenities are great, super convenient, and always kept clean. My favorite thing about Squire Hill are their raffles that they do. They give out all kinds of cool stuff and sometimes have catered food for clubhouse events!

I lived at Squire a long time, I have lived a lot of places around also. Squire is by far the best and most attentive to the renters’ needs. I’ve never had a problem go in answered, and there is always almost an immediate response. I have worked personally with Lacy in the office and has always answered every question I have ever had. They set out the standards when you first move in, and updates through emails and letters for any upcoming issues or changes. I highly recommend living at squire if you ever have the chance. It’s not like any other rental units in the area, and the office personnel late top of the line.

I have lived in Squire Hill for 3 years and I can’t say enough good things. The biggest reason I chose to live here was how highly their maintenance was rated by residents - and it’s the reason I haven’t moved since. Most every time I put in a work order they are there by the end of the day! The staff has always been friendly, in person and over the phone, and they really do care about residents being happy by putting on events and giveaways within the community. My roommate and I have LOVED our apartment and so have a lot of our friends - they later signed to Squire Hill after seeing how awesome they are. We highly recommend!!

Moved in when supposedly house was ready but was by no means of the word even close to prepared. The carpet was a mess the toliets worse than walmarts and all sorts of damage, it is normal for college students to cause this but wrong to have the new students have to fight for maintenance requests just to have these fixed, obviously the rooms ARENT READY if all this is going on. I would note the teams responsiveness however its the model of squire hill to use the new resident as the inspector and not do their own formal inspection. Ridiculous.

I have now lived in Squire for 2 years. I love it here and maintenance is available almost 24/7. All of the staff is excellent and works with you in a timely manor. Multiple times I have called the office and the women who work there have been nothing but helpful. One of the staff members, Bryanna, has helped me with parking passes and is timely with responding to emails every time Ive have a question. They also have implemented assigned parking spots which I love because now all residents have a place to park at all hours. Squire is the best!

They almost got me into legal trouble. I applied for an apartment and was offered a lease. I am a well qualified young man with steady employment and 2 cats. I was very upfront about my pets. The apartment they offered me had 2 room mates. Hours before signing the lease I double checked with my potential roommates about my cats and they told me that they know nothing about them. Furthermore one of them is allergic to cat dander, which can be lethal. When I gave the rental team the opportunity to solve the problem, they quoted their lease terms to me. They made it very clear to me that they are not responsible for doing due diligence with potential roommates about bringing pets into the apartment and they have themselves legally covered in the lease. Practically, what this means for me, is that If my potential roommate had his airway close up when I un-wittingly brought my cats into the apartment, I would have caught the manslaughter charge. Be very carful renting here, especially if you have pets or pet allergies.

I’ve lived here for about 3 years now and it used to be great! My one bedroom apartment was nice enough for the price with only some cosmetic damage that while unsightly for the price was forgivable for everything else the complex offered. However, recently things have changed. They took away almost all visitor parking and limited it to a few spots (a few meaning 10-15 if that) by the clubhouse for the entire complex to use, meaning there is almost no parking for visitors most of the time and almost always none available on the weekends. That didn’t really matter much to me as I didn’t have many visitors and I gave my girlfriend a pass to use when she came over. Now they’ve changed the parking situation and assigned spots to each resident, only giving one pass per bedroom meaning I can only get one. Now this doesn’t make sense if you are a couple living in a one bedroom as they won’t even sell you another pass. You can only have one car. Period. I was told that when this new system would be put in place that one bedrooms would get 2 spots to fix this issue and I resigned my lease under that assumption. But now The residents have been told that’s not the case and I can’t help but feel screwed over in that regard. They’ve done all of this while raising my rent and not offering anything in return. They are supposedly remodeling the clubhouse but the old clubhouse was fine with plenty of amenities and I can’t help but feel that the money would have been better utilized elsewhere. The staff are nice but ultimately unhelpful with complaints a lot of the time. Maintenance requests take about 3 days to fulfill regardless if it’s the dead of summer when no one is here or the middle of the school year when everyone is.Long story short the staff are friendly and maintenance is helpful when they can get to you but I can’t recommend Squire Hill to anyone that anticipates having guests over at their apartment, if you’re a couple looking to live in a bedroom and drive 2 cars or are looking to pay a reasonable rate for what you are given.

I was recently searching for an apartment in Harrisonburg and was hoping to sign a lease at Squire. My friends live there and I visited them last year and it just seemed like a nice place to live. The staff was very helpful in trying to get me a one bedroom but unfortunately they said they were fully leased up for that style. They offered to roommate match and reached out to me frequently with options but I just did not want roommates. Hopefully I can sign on at Squire for my senior year this fall.

Only rating two stars because of the nice office staff and the old manager Melissa. But I do not recommend staying here solely based on the new property manager, Joe Mehl. My friend lived in these apartments for two years and recently just moved out he kept his apartment squeaky clean and rarely had guests over. He had two small stains from normal wear and tear of the apartment in one room and they charged him Over $600 for a full replacement of the carpet of the entire apartment. The manager lied and said the reason was because they hired a cleaning company to try clean the stain and they could not get it out .but when he asked for proof of the invoice he was unable to provide it. After two weeks, he just now became apologetic after many dishonest statements and realizing that he could not produce the invoice he lied about. After all of that he is still trying to charge him for one stain after putting him through what he did the past two weeks and even after his dishonesty. It would not be worth living in an apartment that tries to unnecessarily charge you & has dishonest workers.I do not usually leave bad reviews but I am extremely disturbed with this situation.

I have been leasing an apartment in the community since the summer of 2017. The office staff are courteous, kind, and extremely knowledgeable. If a resident brings a problem to the office staff, they will do whatever they need to make sure it is resolved. The office staff treats their residents like old friends, and their service is more than appreciated. The apartment has good access to bus routes, reliable maintenance staff (most of my requests have been fixed in at most 2-3 days, unlike other apartments where it might take a week or more), and not to mention a clean pool and hot tub. Squire Hill also likes to host resident days, filled with fun activities and food; who doesnt love that? If you are struggling to find a roomate, the office staff will also help you potentially find one. All in all, Squire Hill is an excellent community, has clean amenities and buildings, and new appliances. Im going to miss this place when I have to move out and will always recommend it to anyone new moving to the area!

I lived here for two years and really didnt appreciated Squire until I moved to Charleston Townes. Squire may not offer as much space and parking may be an issue, but the location, staff, and feel of Squires houses and community make it so worth it. Squires also very pet friendly. Pets are welcome in the clubhouse (and they give treats!). Maintenance is great too. They always came promptly and never charged us beyond what was fair (they even came and changed our lightbulbs and didnt charge us a dime). The staff also made an effort to get to know residents. I have lived at 2 other properties in the area while at school and Squire Hill is by far the best out of the three. The staff is super friendly and makes you feel like they genuinely care about any problems or concerns you bring to them, which is hard to find in student housing. I only had one maintenance issue and it was fixed the same morning I called. You cannot beat the amenities for the price; the pool, gym and study rooms are always clean and well maintained and not having to pay and set up internet and cable was a real relief. The apartments are in older buildings but everything inside looks phenomenal and all the appliances are relatively new and well kept. If I were to spend another year at school I wouldnt live anywhere else!

The only reason this review is two stars is because I actually enjoy living here. But something needs to be done about the awful parking. After a long stint in the library I recently came home to no where to park my car. It is absolutely ridiculous to have to spend almost 30 minutes driving around the complex to find somewhere to park while living here, without the high risk of your car getting towed. Not only that after calling emergency maintenance I was rudely told to not call again and told nothing could be done and quickly cut off. Its annoying because everything else is pleasant but the parking needs to be addressed.

They will not let you visit an actual apartment/townhouse. They just sit you down and show you a floor plan. If you feel like paying over $13,000 a year (for a two bedroom townhouse. Over $17,000/year for 3 room) without seeing what youre paying for I highly advise you take some business classes. Imagine buying a car with just factory specs, no seeing the actual vehicle. Yes, the common area is nice but you wont be living there. It really is a shame because the amenities are nice and the faculty seems wonderful.

No bugs, nothing breaking, etc. Everythings clean. The staff are all very, very nice and friendly. And the new clubhouse is great. Two things I would note: It gets very loud on weekends and even some weeknights. Sometimes annoyingly so. Ive found beer bottles sitting on my steps upon coming home before. Also there is quite a bit of crime going on right up the street. I dont think it enters Squire often if at all, but it is very close by.

Squire Hill was one of the best apartment experiences I had while living in Harrisonburg. I was sad to leave. If there is ever an issue, contact the rent office and the staff happily and willingly assist. Rarely ever had an issue though. The apartments seem to get to be a bit expensive, but with budgeting its very easily manageable. Due to recent renovations all amenities and facilities are AWESOME! I also got to have my dog there with me so all around it was a great experience. Apartments are also conveniently located near JMUs campus and on the bus line so that was a plus...I didnt have to deal with parking on campus!

THIS WOULD BE ZERO STARS IF I COULD. Im a current resident in Squire, who just returned for the new school year. Squire failed to mention to any of the residents that towing services for the complex would not be in effect the week before classes. I left my complex to give a friend a ride home and when I returned there was not one single space available, after calling emergency maintenance and every towing company in Harrisonburg I was told that there was nothing that could be done. So at 1:00 in the morning, I was physically unable to go back to my own house because of people who are not even residents of the complex, parking in the spots. I made the decision to park in the grass just so I could go home for the night and woke up in the morning one of my neighbors who told me a Squire worker had slapped a towing sticker on my car, he cared very little about the fact that I actually lived here and his advice for me was if I needed to leave for the rest of the week to get back early enough so that other people wouldnt steal the spots. If it had not been for my neighbor who recognized my car, it would have been towed by Squire as they had failed to contact me and explain the situation. I am furious with Squire after the way they have treated this, I was informed by emergency maintenance that I was one of many residents who had called in the night saying they couldnt park to go home, and I was informed in the morning that I was one of many residents who was threatened with towing just because they needed to get back to their own houses. Squire has showed very little respect for the people that live here and everything about the situation has been handled so poorly. Would not recommended living here unless you want to not be able to come home some nights.

Im giving it two stars for allowing pets.Moving in:When my significant other and I moved into the apartment, there were tattered/ripped/running carpets, holes in kitchen floors, missing doors, broken outlets, counters still sticky with beer from the previous tenants...in fact, we spent the first 2 days of us living here cleaning the place BEFORE bringing in our belongings. That took them 3 weeks to even acknowledge and admit that the various problems should not have been considered in good repair on their official walkthrough prior to our moving in. After a month of being moved in and the thought of having to displace all furniture, we opted to not disrupt the home we had just finished unpacking for floors that should have already been done, as long as it was noted that the floors should have been replaced and we are not responsible for their current damage. That seemed to be the plan, until the departure of the head leasing agent. At that time, the new and old leasing agent performed another walkthrough, at our request, to bring to the new head leasing agents attention the state of the flooring in this apartment. They proceeded to tell us how the floors werent that bad, and that the carpet didnt need to be replaced, just restretched, and that the linoleum in the kitchen wasnt entirely in need of replacement.Keep in mind, the kitchen linoleum creeks from the separation of the linoleum from the glue from years of beer soaked parties, throughout the kitchen. Their walkthrough had hardly any problems, we ran out of room to write about problems on ours.Landscaping/grounds:If you dont mind having to wear shoes everywhere outside, this is the place for you, with decades of glass fragments and bottle caps from beer bottles strewn in every single square foot of the property. Some of it so old, you wont see it unless you disturb the dirt/mulch around the landscaping. But, this can be said about much of the college housing in this city, unfortunately. This wouldnt be a problem if they had a larger sized dog run that wasnt lined with cedar chips, instead of grass. But, the small, rarely changed chips, dog run will force you to take your dog to the dog park or risk an e-mail from the office for playing with your dog off of the leash, or worse, risk injury to your animal from glass shards, bottle caps, human vomit, lost drugs (I can only assume they were lost, or ditched by students dealing with police.), etc. As of late, even the landscaping has gone downhill, as they leave the cut grass on the freshly cut lawn, to kill the grass beneath it and bare mud can be found around many mulched areas. This is because of French drains that are either non-existent, or poorly placed, creating a river down the sidewalks in a decent rain for you to submerge your shoes in.Parking:Ha! What parking? They have approximately 452 spaces for 504 residents and their visitors, with approximately 50 spaces marked for visitors peppered throughout the complex, meaning there usually isnt parking during the weekend...except this year (my sig. other and I lived in separate apartments in Squire, prior to moving in together.), this year is the opposite. There isnt any parking Sunday night thru Thursday night. If you come home after 10 p.m. those days, youre parking in the fire lane, grass or some service spot/drive. This doesnt include big JMU weekends, where the tow company is told to stand down. Its bad enough, the tow company wont tow tenants, no matter where they are parked, out of sympathy for us. Yeah, that bad.Amenities:Basic gym setup that the majority of student housing complexes offer. The pool is usually found with bugs/debris/hair/etc. The hot tub is usually down/in repair for half the summer, if not more...and its a hot tub, in college housing, do you REALLY want to get in?Utilities: Basic cable with rent and 30 mbps speed internet that is spotty, at best. Streaming movies or playing video games will have you experiencing epic latency.Thats all the room google will give me to comment.

Not a bad place to live, but the parking is horrendous. They have around one parking spot for every 5 residents. Residents shouldnt be treated like that.

Lived here for two years. Overpriced for the area, worst internet service Ive ever experienced (two years with over 20 internet service visits, still broken.) The office is horrible at getting back to you in any timely manner, in person or email. They also purposely overcharge during the last month of moving out and refuse to issue refunds for knowingly over-charged rent payments until months after the move out date. I went in person to the front office to make sure I wasnt overcharged. I was told I would only be billed for the correct pro-rated rent, I was not. Ive asked when I would be refunded the extra multiple times over the last few weeks and have yet to get a response. Now Im out hundreds of dollars for some arbitrary amount of time because they didnt do what they said they would. If I had a nickel... Id probably have the overcharged rent by now. If you want to live on Devon lane for JMU, dont live here. Id post 0 stars if I could.
