I have been working with Steel Town Properties for over 10 years. Of all of my customers that renovate rental units, Steel Town Properties does the jobs right. It takes years to understand what it takes to renovate homes in Pittsburgh. Pittsburgh has one of the largest inventories of century old homes. These properties require full renovations. Most investors find ways to cut costs and save as much as possible. Steel Town is one of the few companies out there that realize the value in a full renovation. Codes and safety measures change over the years and the only way those codes can be enforced is with a full renovation. This will bring the electrical, plumbing and HVAC components up to current code standards. It would be a long story to explain all the differences. All you need to know is with current code standards in place, you could not stay in a safer home.As an electrician I take code enforcement very seriously. It was important to have a quick close as my clients housing was going to be non-existent in 8 days. Michael moved mountains to finish the last few details and made a MAJOR modification to the deck and a bathroom to support an elderly parent...all in a matter of days. Not sure how he secured the material to complete this in a few days, but he made it happen so we could close on time. The finishing touches were impeccable. Curtis showed me a Steeltown property on Edwards street. I was extremely impressed with the company. While I was viewing the apartment Curtis, took his time and showed me everything. He showed me the renovations and storage options for the property; he outlined the advantages of the apartment as well as offered suggestions that would help with my budget and ways to save. When he didnt know something he immediately found out the answer and followed up with me. I noticed that there was some boxes on the street and some things looked a little messy outside; Curtis wasted no time and made sure the mess on the street was cleaned up and when I came back later that day I saw a sign to prevent it happening in the future. Later he followed up with me several times about the property as well as my personal apartment search. I missed out on their apartment on Edwards street, but I would definitely be interested in any other properties they offer. The company and their employees seem very helpful and efficient.

Stay away from this awful company! The units are just prettied up old clunkers. But worse than that, they are thieves and liars who take advantage of the college kids and their parents. They will steal your security deposit no matter how nice you leave the property. They just produce old photos that aren’t even of the current property and make up a bunch of bogus charges.We regret not listening to the warnings from others who had rented with them. We were taken in by very old positive reviews. (All the recent reviews are negative).

Being a landlord has it challenges. There are so many moving parts, specifically in facilitating repairs and overall responsiveness to issues. Steel Town Properties seems to have this mastered! Over all great experience.

We rented with Steel Town Properties in the same rental for 2 years. The homes are beautifully remodeled. The landlord is very difficult to get a hold of, and you often have to call and leave many voicemails before hearing back. I would be most cautious about the security deposit. Our deposit was a month and a half of rent per person, and we got less than half of it back. Despite paying for cleaners and leaving the house in good shape, we were charged a move out cleaning fee. We were also charged on our deposit for normal wear and tear of the house (EX: $400 for the granite fading by the sink). We were also charged for items they have no intent to replace (EX: Scratch on the dishwasher). While the home was beautiful to live in, in retrospect, it was not worth the amount we lost in the security deposit.

We rented an apartment from this company for our daughter, dont make the same mistake we did. DO NOT RENT from Steel Town Properties. First of all the workmanship in the home was substandard. Second when there was a problems they were not responsive. Third when it comes to your security deposit they are thieves. My wife and I have pictures of the property at move in and also at move out. We spent five hours cleaning at move out. Their inspection report is a complete fabrication and lie. They are deducting $965 for cleaning. They even deducted $90 for six light bulbs. Absolute thieves at Steel Town Properties and they have not heard the last of this from me.

Have heard nothing but bad things about these guys. Have friends who lease with them. Initially had the rent jacked up on lease by “accident” when it was sent over. Refuse to pay for various things in the house that need replacement with no relation to the residents. Flat rate of $125 per month for water also seems ridiculous. Overpriced properties. Living in a house twice the size and far nicer(same # of bedrooms) for cheaper than my friends! Be careful with these people. Go with private individuals in the Pittsburgh market.

Not responsive to tenant concerns. overpriced rental units. They use the cheapest possible materials and then, surprise surprise, things break or wear down and youll be charged an unsubstantiated and absurd amount of money. Your security deposit is a slush fund for their repairs and upgrades, and if you want to contest it, good luck
