Ive only been here for lunch, but on my last visit I had some of the best gnocchi I ever tasted. Today I had a delightful dish of chicken with peppers and mushrooms in a tomato basil sauce. It was wonderful! There is a wide list of desserts from which to choose. The ambiance is cozy and comfortable, the service great. Overall, you cant miss with a meal here!

Atmosphere is fantastic. Great staff and waiters/waitresses. Quick service too, never had an empty drink, food arrived promptly and hot. Waiters were knolwedgeable about menu and drinks. Food fell flat though. Seemed overly saucy, buttery, and way too heavy on cheese/cream. The apps were decent, but somewhat bland. We got seafood dishes and the quality and flavor was more on par with Red Lobster than the $30+ we paid.Restaurant, staff, and drinks were 5 star, food was 3 stars for apps and 2 stars for dinner. Maybe well have to stick with classic Italian dishes next time

My family has a very close history with Rico’s. We have been dining here since I was very young and have always been treated well. The food and drink selections are outstanding and the quality and taste are out of this world. Italian fine dining with valet parking and great nostalgic photos in the entrance.

Got the seafood platter. Heavy breading and no flavor. Oily butter dip. Fresh seafood, but couldnt believe how bland it tasted. Very disappointed for the $40 price. And service wasnt at the level of fine dining I dont think. Was with a group and was never asked if I wanted a drink. And then she forgot what I ordered. Never came back around and asked how anything was.

1st time. Had high hopes. Definitely fell short. Maybe because the server put on gloves in front of us when she grabbed the one beer bottle off the table or maybe it was my rubbery tasting $38 seafood pasta. Weird vibs - bland food. 2 stars is generous.

Absolutely loved this place. Everything on the menu looked and sounded awesome. The first time I had ever had difficulty ordering a dinner it all sounded so good. I had the sword fish and was fabulous. From the salads to the last bite of my meal was delicious. The server we had was a great help with everything. Just be ready to spend a good bit of money but well worth every penny.

Not what is used to be...We went there twice during the pandemic, and I know things have changed so we shouldnt expect things stay the same as before. BUT we were very disappointed with this place both times. They no longer have the fine dining experience that they used to have. The foods that we ordered were all mediocre. The menu offers varieties and things we normally dont see at other restaurants. But they lost its edge as far as flavoring and taste. I ordered seafood pasta with red sauce; the sauce was just so plain, and it was missing something. They didnt pound veal enough, that it wasnt very thin. We ordered zucchini flower fritters, and we tasted nothing but the butter. Our waiter was terrible, which also ruined our experience. We didnt appreciate her attitude. She was clearly annoyed with some questions about the menu that we asked. If we want to stay in North Hills for nice dinner, we will go to a few places in Warrendale next time.

We were disappointed with the quality as years past it was the place to go. Food is mediocre, they do not give you a side of pasta with your entrée anymore, and is very hectic because they are shortstaffed. There is a hierarchy of seating regular customers that arrive after you and has lost its special feeling.

The food was ok but I still cant get over all the upcharges. With Veal Piccata you can get braised cabbage(!), baked potato(!), or peas and corn (peas and corn??), but pasta? $7.50+ upcharge! Broccoli was an upcharge as well. The waitress defended the policy since its worked for over 40 years. So if youre looking for braised cabbage or dont mind upcharges you might enjoy it. The hostess was a delight.

Review №29

The scallops were cooked perfect. Melon was not as good as expected. Strange, no bread or pasta with Italian (Hubby enjoyed the Veal Parm)... meals unless ordered separate, so dont know how pasta/sauce might be. Really couldnt have eaten anymore anyways. But it is an Italian restaurant and we were curious. Atmosphere disappointing. They appeared to have a lot of regulars, that they cater to and know. When they seated us we were quite aware they were putting us in seats that were not very desirable. (know the feeling?)...Also, dont dress for this restaurant, people were casually attired. We were there during the week. Had heard good things. It was my birthday. I wont return. So often, Pittsburgh establishments cater to their people. When we get a sense of this, we tend to avoid future visits. We were sat near the kitchen with no view. They dont take reservations.

Worst service I have ever had in a restaurant. When the waitress says out loud for everyone to hear that your table is rude! When a second glass of wine was ordered she looked confused and asked if she served our first glass because she didn’t know what we’re drinking??? And when we order dessert and she was told it was a birthday and brought the tiramisu without a candle? When asked about a candle she told us only if you bring a candle. I have never had such a negative feeling about a restaurant as I did in this establishment. I have never felt so horrible about a restaurant experience as I did here. This is unreal in POST Covid when all you want is a great birthday experience. But at Rico you better bring your on candles if you want a Happy Birthday!

My husband and I celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary today at Ricos. We visited with Rico reminiscing how 25 years ago we were his first wedding reception in his restaurant. Rico and Vince remembered that our wedding cake had been sliced in a circle so everyone could take a piece home to freeze and eat a year later. Vince and I took home the top layer with our Precious Moments Bride and Groom on top that we enjoyed on our 1st wedding anniversary-August 8, 1993.

Great food, lovely ambience, attentive service and genuine Italian cuisine. A large house-like restaurant tucked away in Rico Lane, just aside from the busy McKnight Road is a warm experience to enjoy. Three of us had dinner on Friday, 12/27/2019. The experience was less than satisfying: Our waitress seemed awkward, mispronounced Italian words, and didnt answer questions. We decided to order the house salad; she asked if we wanted gorgonzola on it. I asked whether or not that increased the price. She ignored the question. We discovered an increase of $5.00 for each salad with the cheese, from $2.50 to $7.50! The house dressing was also very strong, far too much vinegar. All our main menu selections were far too salty. Back home we became so thirsty, we had to drink several glasses of water.Thank you for this forum.

I had a great dinner here on Thursday with my good friends. I had veal and peppers and a delicious shrimp cocktail. This is a traditional place, which is awesome especially in todays age when you really cant find the classics. New restaurants seem to be trying so hard to be trendy, organic, farm to table or whatever else it is that they are chasing. Here, you can tell that the owners truly know their stuff and have been cooking the same great dishes for the test of time. Bottom line: fresh fish daily, great wine list, great staff, and most importantly, authenticity. I will be back again soon!

After many years of dining here we had the worst experience ever. The waitress had zero personality. The price gouging for the appetizer ( $15 for 3 slices of tomato and cheese and a split charge to cut a tomato slice in half which we did NOT ask for the order to be split!) Waitress did take the split charge off the check however even though we asked several times to speak to a manager or owner nobody came to see us.The Valet gentleman had the best service of the entire establishment. He went above and beyond to hear our complaint and went and got a card to contact the owner. We did follow up with a phone call but were not offered any compensation at all.We fully understand the rising cost of food etc. however the egregious costs of some of the items on the menu are far above the industry standard of 67% markup.VERY disappointing to take Riccos off our list of dining establishments!!

We tried to make a reservation, but we were told that they only accepted reservations for parties of 6 or more, but that our wait should only be 10 minutes if there was any wait at all. We got there gave our name and were told that our wait would be about 20 minutes. We waited 30 minutes and we watched people come in who obviously knew the owners; they slipped cash to people and got seated. All we wanted was to have a nice romantic dinner and spend a nice evening together. After almost a 40 minute wait, the hostess had no idea what was going on and told us that it would be about 20 more minutes, so we left. The valet was nice and got our vehicle very fast, unfortunately it was full of cigarette smoke. We had to drive with our windows down. Basically unless you know someone, do not bother going. The service was terrible, the bar was packed, and our car smelled like someone was smoking in it. I have learned an important lesson, if a restaurant does not accept reservations I am not interested.
