Looking for a place for a roommate and I had been difficult during this time of year and when we found colonial, the staff was honest about their wait times and how things went when units become available. We appreciated the honesty and look forward our stint of renting from this apartment complex. Fingers crossed for the end of September.

I am moving to North Carolina in a few weeks to be closer to family. It was refreshing to find a new place so close to my daughter while visiting Hickory a few weeks ago. Colonial House Management has been very helpful in working with me from afar to finalize the process. The property appears well-kept and is attractive. I am looking forward to living there!

We love living here for the last 15 years. It feels like home. The pool is kept in great condition to use. The employees here are great. They are kind and hard workers. I hope we can live here for many more years.

Would highly recommend Colonial House Apartments. The grounds are well kept. The apartments are spacious and affordable. The manager, Kathleen, is always very helpful and friendly and will go above and beyond to make sure you are happy. Just an all-around great place to live!

Colonial House has been a great place to rent. The experience has been very pleasant. If you have any problems with anything they are willing to help you out. They keep the grounds looking great. I can’t wait till the pool opens. Kathleen does a great job in the office.

Here at colonial House has been a great experience in the apartment living environment its has a layed back feel.I enjoy the wooded areas for the dog walks as well as a quiet quaint place country feel yet it is convenient to downtown the University. Management puts in the due diligence to get issues resolved which works great when youre on time crutch. So thanks to all!!

If your looking for a nice apartment for a decent price this is not the apartment for you. I lived in these apartments for a whole year and it is not worth the price. When we first moved in we were promised new windows and we never got them. Also we had a toilet leak down stairs. The doors barely shut all throughout the apartment. We had the heater go out and the air conditioning go out. We had spiders and cockroaches where they didn’t spray good. The water pressure was terrible most of the time. On top of all of that they didn’t give us our deposit back when we clearly left the apartment actually better then when we moved in. We shampooed the carpets and was still paid almost $400 for “damaged carpet”. We were charged $40 for a key when both were turned in. We were charged $40 for the stove not being cleaned but I cleaned them myself. So don’t expect to get your deposit back. All in all this is a sorry place to live.

Just a heads up to help anyone avoid my mistakes, seriously read the 39 page lease agreement thoroughly, more than once, and read it again about 3 months before moving out. I didnt memorize it well enough and ran into some surprises. To cite my examples, they want 60 days notice to vacate. That is in the agreement but I mistakenly assumed it would be 30 days. That means they can charge another month of rent if you only give 30 days notice. However, they were merciful to me on this. Also, I was surprised to lose $80 from my security deposit for carpet cleaning. I left it in the same condition and vacuumed and cleaned well before I left. After reviewing the agreement again, there is a line about the carpet needing to be professionally cleaned which I missed. You can hire someone yourself and turn in the receipt, but either way youre paying for a mandatory cleaning and cant get your full deposit so be prepared for that. This one was easier to miss and buried pretty deep towards the end.It was mostly a pleasant experience. Decently comfortable, convenient, and few maintenance issues. Some noise problems though. Kathleen was always great. My issues were all technicalities with the agreement.

I lived at Colonial House for almost 10 years. The apartments are well kept. The rent is very reasonable. I loved its great and convenient location. There are several amenities in a walking distance. I always received such an excellent customer service from Kathleen and the former property manager Ronda. Maintenance is great as well. Ricky is the best!I highly recommend this apartment complex.

Great place to live. Love the gas stove and new appliances that were in my unit when I moved it. Management is easy to work with and only a phone call away. They have made my experience in Hickory great and answered any and all of my questions in a timely matter.

We were showed an apartment here and it looked nice so we decided to move in. We moved into a different apartment than the one we looked at because it was already taken, but we were told they are all remodeled the same way. During walk through, the apartment looked nice. After moving in we started to realize that these apartments are very old, things you wouldnt realize until after you move in. Theyre definitely not worth what were paying for rent. I complained about the cabinets having a moldy smell but maintenance claimed he didnt smell anything. You can see the mold on the shelf. I also mentioned that the cabinets are very old and the shelves are shedding which puts wood particles all over our dishes and counters. I was told that they will not replace the cabinets now that weve moved in. I must say that I love my neighbors and its very quiet here so far. Weve only been here about 2 and a half months. Another issue is if someone is showering, we cant flush the toilet or run water otherwise the person showering will get badly burned, as I did, or freeze, as I did. Kathleen that works in the front office is amazing and she goes above and beyond to help where she can. We really appreciate her! Unfortunately, she is limited on what she can do when issues arise because she just works here. If they fix these minor issues, we would stay a lifetime because we like the area. One other issue is parking. Theres no assigned parking which I didnt think would be an issue, but I realized quick that it is an issue. People have visitors that take up spaces and then paying renters have to park far from their door and walk. Theyre should be 2 parking spots per apartment and visitor spots should be clearly marked. Its too bad that management doesnt think this is an important issue. I watched a woman have to carry her baby and bags from way across the parking lot and she struggled. Look somewhere else if you are looking for quality in your new home. If something changes and they fix these issues, I will update my post to let you know.

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE~ it here! Our neighbors are awesome! Ronda, in the front office, is the best. It seems like she knows each person here, and she treats us like family. Problems are addressed quickly and with care.Its walking distance to the YMCA, hospital, SALT block (Sciences, Arts, and Literature Together), and shops. Convenient to Lenoir-Rhyne University, parks, and other popular destinations. The pool is great in the warm weather. Its spacious and affordable in this magnificent town ;)

I have been at Hickory Square for 1 1/2 year now. I think the world of the one who collects our rent, BONNIE. She has always been nice to me and never snooty. I have never had any of my packages stolen as long as I have lived here at Hickory Square. I have been retired for several years now and am at home most all the time. I love it here at Hickory Square. The only thing I didn’t like was when the actual people who own Hickory Square jumped our rent up $50.00 a month. AND this is nothing BONNIE has anything to do with. She only works for the people like you work for your employer and you do what he says. You have nothing to do with the decisions they make just as Bonnie has no decision over the decisions made by the owners of Hickory Square. Bonnie does whatever she can to have the Maintence Team to keep things fixed and running smoothly. All we have to do is turn in an order to her and that day or the next, it will be fixed. She works with us, NOT against us.

We have lived in this apartment complex through staff changes in the leasing office, maintenance, and district manager.This apartment complex had a rodent and roach issues when we moved in. We had a leak issue in our laundry room for 18 months that management was aware about before they decided to address it. There is not enough parking for all residents. We’ve had sub-contractor “electricians” as we were told, come out to replace outlet plates and they were unprofessional and inexperienced without proper supervision which ended in messing up the 3-way switches to our stairway. 3 gentlemen had to leave our power off for 2 hrs trying to figure out how it got mixed up. The office has transitioned payment and work orders for apartment issues(optional) that need to be addressed to online. Our family are familiar and used to handling things online however this causes the office staff to rarely communicate with the residents. Therefore leading to the big issue of poor customer service.We communicate with other residents and it seems as though we are not alone in our opinion of issues not being addressed properly but what can you do when you rent? The location of the apartments is great but had we known what was in store we would have not gave this place a second glance.

Was looking for a apartment no one would answer the phone they all wanted you to email them or leave message needless to say I was just giving up but I called Colonial House and someone actually answered the phone set up appointment to see the apartment Ronda has helped me tremendously. Shes been wonderful help because I have a Downs syndrome grandson who lives with me. She has treated me and Titan like family.

Cheap, allows pets, close to great restaurants down the road, quiet, has a pool, helpful, replaced my carpet/windows upon move in, but wish there was a fitness center and my bathroom doesnt have a fan.

Theft is very high so make sure you chain down everything. My apartment must have had a smoker in it before me because brown tar seeps through the paint. Good luck getting a hold of emergency maintenance as their number never works so if your A/C goes out you should monopolize on that by opening a sauna. 10/10 would burn down. Id give it a zero if it were possible.
