Admittedly, the location and interior at Gateway are great. It’s a prime area and beautiful apartments. However, my husband and I have had multiple issues living here. We live on the front of the building and while the the views are great, the highway is SO loud. Every morning at 5 am we’re woken up by the start of the morning commute. That noise continues on all day. There is no recycling, which at this price point is a huge deal breaker. Recycling is very important to me and the fact it isn’t offered here is disgraceful. There is convenient bicycle storage in the parking garage, but we have had TWO of our securely chained bikes stolen on separate occasions with the chains cut. When reported to management, the response was “oh we don’t have cameras in that area” ...really?? We pay $50 a month to park a vehicle and store bikes with no security cameras? Save your money. Look elsewhere to live.

I have been living at Gateway for a few years now. The building is clean and secure. Disha and Courtney have both been very helpful and offered solutions or put in work orders for me. Additionally, Devon has done a great job quickly and thoroughly addressing work orders. All three staff members have been very professional, responsive, and kind. While the building is generally quiet, it is not uncommon to hear neighbors and sometimes dogs. No apartment is perfect but I find Gateway is a good value and a pleasant place to live.

EDIT: The gateway was overall a good place to live. But near the end of my term living there, I had many questions for the office and the maintenance man, Devon. When I called, I never got a call back to answer my questions. I ended up having to call another apartment managed by the same company, to get the contact information from one of the employees higher up in the company. The lack of communication was completely unprofessional and disrespectful. You would think that even though a tenant is moving out, that the management would still like to provide wonderful service, so when the tenant leaves, they could share good things about the management company and the apartment building. I used to refer everyone looking for an apartment downtown to the gateway. But now I don’t have a good taste left in my mouth about this apartment complex.

I just recently moved into Gateway Apartments at Belknap and I cannot recommend them enough! The staff is incredibly helpful and responsive. The apartment itself is beautiful, a great location, and the move-in experience was seamless.I cant wait until the COVID-19 restrictions lift so that I can experience all of the great benefits including the community and social events, and living so close to downtown. Thanks, Gateway! Youve made my move phenominal!

I have never written a google review before, however I feel compelled to do so after the exemplary treatment received by the staff here at Gateway at Belknap Apartments. Particularly, the responsiveness, professionalism, and pragmatism that Devon from maintenance exhibited cannot be understated. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he made it to our apartment promptly, even in the evening after normal business hours to help engineer solutions for difficult problems. Devon epitomizes the type of support you should receive from a leasing agency, but most agencies fall short on.Moving into a new city and apartment can be a stressful time, however Devon, Disha, and Courtney coordinated time-sensitive assistance while maintaining praiseworthy communication. Please consider these apartments if you are looking for a cohesive team of employees to optimize your experience as a resident, who truly want to ease your moving transition to a new place to call home. I would suggest this complex and apartments to my colleagues, friends, and family.

Ive lived at Gateway for the past year and a half and have had mostly good experiences. The apartment complex is new and beautiful, close to the hospitals, and has great amenities like underground parking, dish washers, and in-unit washer/dryer. My biggest complaint is that there is often poor communication between DTN workers except for Devon, the sole worker at Gateway, and all of the tenants. It is hard to receive a call back when undergoing an issue as a majority of the staff works at satellite locations. Devon, however, is wonderful and does a great job of managing any issues the tenants may have even if they are not in his exact job description.

Living at Gateway has been amazing! I moved in at the beginning of August and so far every aspect of this community has exceeded my expectations. The appliances are all new and work perfectly. My unit has the washer/dryer in one and its so cool! However its kind of hard to work at first (I still dont know if Im using the dry setting correctly) but its super high tech and great! The location is awesome, right next to the freeway but set back enough so its not loud from the traffic. The management team is incredible! Any time Ive had a question or concern, theres always someone ready to help. Im not going anywhere else anytime soon!

A TOP TO BOTTOM HONEST REVIEW:Great apartments overall! They sit in a very quiet neighborhood located just a short walk from downtown GR. For those in the medical field, the hospitals and health buildings are a stones throw away. Also, highway access is only a couple of minutes away, whether you want to get on 131 or 196. You cannot beat the location. There is not much for a fitness facility, something I would like to see improvement on in the future. Also, you can tell that the painters, builders, etc. cut corners in some spots, but nothing major. Maintenance has taken care of anything needed after move-in.The one and two-bedroom apartments are spacious, have tall ceilings, a modern feel, and fairly thick walls. Utilities are not too bad. Underground parking is included with rent, and the garage has plenty of room. You can purchase a street parking pass from the city if you would like, however, street parking is only enforced Monday-Friday, 8am to 5pm.Property management experience has been very pleasant. I would recommend Gateway at Belknap!

Expensive apartments in a bad area. Doing the math after lease rates went up, we won’t be renewing our lease. It would be cheaper to buy a $250,000 home even without a down payment. For a one bedroom apartment you’ll be paying over $1,400/month for something the size of a small garage. While moving in after dark (in the parking lot) I came outside to a man in a ski mask digging through my car taking things. Parking is definitely an issue unless if you want to pay $100/month (they’ve changed this rate a few times since we’ve moved in), pay per hour in the lot, or buy a city pass so you can drive around the block a few times and pray you find a spot. Got woken up a few times before 7:00 in the morning to the sprinkler system failing and setting off a terrible alarm all throughout the building. If you have an apartment that has a door that goes directly outside, your gas bill will nearly double since the draft is so terrible it chills the entire space in the winter. Lastly, we were told about the restaurant and coffee shop that would be put in the building soon after we moved in which was a big deal for us. One year later they finally begin the construction process so we won’t even be able to utilize it. The workout room for the entire building is smaller than the studio apartment and consists of 2 ellipticals and a bike. Devon from maintenance is one of the nicest people I’ve met from the company and is reliable.

The whole entire complex is clean and safe. Parking underneath the building is really nice! The rooms are really sound proof and I have never heard any of my neighbors. The balconies are large and nobody is ever outside so it’s a private view. The management is great. I would recommend to anyone looking for a nice place!!

Ive been a resident of Gateway for about ~1 year and for the most part, I love it. Super close to medical mile which is incredibly convenient. The apartment itself is beautiful and well-maintained. Weve had some struggles with communication with DTN management and getting things handled in timely fashions- with the exception of Devon. He basically runs the gateway property and we are so grateful for him. Feels like nothing would get done if he werent around.Only other complaint is the lack of recycling- its 2019...Get with it Gateway.

Overall very nice apartments but what really makes a difference is the maintenance. Outstanding maintenance that goes out of their way to ensure that all the residents are taken care of between their safety and maintaining the building upkeep. If theres ever an issue I know that I can count on the maintenance to help get the problem solved. Especially Devon, he is very personable and makes you feel actually cared about.

Great location, not noisy even if its by the highway. Parking could be expensive if you don’t get a city permit(30$ a year). Walking distance to downtown. Disha made our move here very welcoming. Right after we moved in we had to meet Devon the maintenance guy. He is always on top of the things and very helpful. Anytime we had an issue he was there next day to fix it.

Ive been living at Gateway at Belknap for 3 months now, and I love it!The location is great, and the apartments are new and modern. The price is pretty affordable for the area and the newness of the apartment. Saisha was very helpful with helping us move in and answering all of my questions. Some downsides:-No recycling, this is very big for me, and I wish I wouldve known this before moving in. Please, DTN — add recycling.-There is only one location to throw away trash, and its a hike away from our apartment.-Promised a coffee shop and restaurant within the apartment building, the sign says coming 2018... its almost 2020. Wondering if this will actually ever happen?

Just about to move in. I saw several different apartments in the area with similar features and price. What really made the difference was the internet speed, the free parking and our leasing agent, Shelby. Really makes a difference when the people you work with are responsive, professional but yet still super personable. Thanks, Shelby for all your hard work and we look forward to moving in!!

Having your landscaping company come through at 8 AM with a hedge trimmer that his gas operated taking out every single bush that you guys have on property is not only obnoxious but it’s just absurd. And unnecessary. I realize pulling plants as hard, but if you’re going to be lazy and use the gas powered chainsaw do it at a decent time of day.Hire a new landscapers

Do not expect great things. I have lived here for a year and a half. Maintence calls take weeks (did not have a working dryer for 2 weeks after multiple attempts contacting the complex). I have been charged late fees and accused of not paying rent/other bills (on more than one occasion) on time when I did indeed pay them and have receipts to prove it. You would think that an apartment complex would check their records before emailing you that you did not pay a bill and trying to charge a late fee??? Apartments themselves are nice but the leasing office needs a lot of work.Additionally, there is no parking for guests. Also, the entire second floor is painted and decorated nicely. If you live on the third floor, its like a psych ward with all white walls and no decor.

Overall a great living experience. Many young professionals creating a relatable encironment to live in, its great to meet the people who live here. Very convenient to downtown, Van Andel arena, bars and breweries. The building is very well maintained. Devon, who handles the maintenance for the building is a very friendly, responsive and all around, a down to earth guy. When renting, you’re paying for the service of handling any issue and he’s always happy to solve any issue big or small

Annoying things about living here:*Fire alarms were a massive burden when all the residents moved in with multiple days of fire alarms going off for no reason. They are brand new fire alarms, so they make a brain piercing, painful sound. I remember one morning at 3 AM when the entire apartment complex was standing out in the cold on the curb with their frightened dogs and cats waiting for firemen to clear the building.*Shoddy construction, referencing multiple points: there are visible paint patches on all of my walls, weird lines and dents in the walls. You are prohibited from painting the walls so you cant fix the paint patches that are everywhere. All of my electrical outlets are visibly crooked to the point that guests comment on how crooked they are. The cabinets are made of low quality wood & one of my cabinet doors fell off on its own, me not having touched it in 2 days. The electrical has quirks that make no sense, such as my porch light not working at all unless a random light inside is turned on and the porch light switch is also turned on at the same time. If the specific inside light is off, the porch light will not turn on no matter what. The staples at the edge of the carpet are tall and will stab your feet every time you walk through. The front door is poorly aligned and hard to close with 1 hand. I have to pull tightly with 1 hand and lock it with the other, which makes leaving for work with a drink or lunch in-hand annoying.*They say location makes the apartment, right? Lets see what the location and this $15,000+ price tag gets you: Noise from 2 highways that are directly next to the building. A Liquor Store 1 block away that attracts strange people who walk through at all times of the day & night and, in one memorable incident, get arrested for stripping in the street and yelling racial slurs. Bad views out of every window of the surrounding jank looking houses. Pot holes on all surrounding roads. Parking is impossible here, with no available parking for any of your guests next to the building or even near the building, no free lot for them to park either. Where do your guests park? Either several city blocks away and then walk, or they have to wait until permits arent enforced (good luck finding a spot btw). Those are the only options! It will be worse when the restaurants on the 1st floor are open, because not even the paid parking lot will have spots! Also we are right next to the college that just opened a new building without any parking structure, so say hello to all the hundreds of students who are scouring the streets for any available spot to make it to class on time! For a luxury apartment that you are supposed to show off to your friends, there isnt a great way to do so because they simply cant park their cars!I lived here because it was my first real apartment without any roommate and I was naive about the cost. You will pay 30% more than someone who lives 8 minutes away in any of the surrounding suburbs. If you really want to live downtown, there are cheaper options. This apartment is for high level management or doctors with disposable income who are working at Butterworth and want to walk across the street to work. No respiratory therapists, residents, nurses, PT, OT, or anyone making a similar amount of money should live here. The price tag is ludicrous. I paid over $17,400 to live here for 1 year and thats including a discount for working at a preferred employer.Their website and ads target all staff who work at Butterworth, but the price does not make sense unless you are making exorbitant amounts of money. And if so, why not buy a nice house? If youre making that much money, you may as well own a house and be able to renovate, fix crooked outlets, paint your own walls, and not have to deal with monthly pet fees for having a fish.Im leaving 2 stars because the target audience and the price do not match. Your ads target a wide range of hospital staff but in reality the only people who can afford to live here make much more than the average hospital staff member does.

Having lived here since August of 2017, Ive had numerous issues both with amenities, appliances, and service time. Some even post move in, seemings how I moved in almost three and a half weeks later than my move in date due to health issues.Upon my move in there were dead gnats all over my countertops, in my sinks and covering the stove. As well as an entire wall was dead including the GFIs on the balcony ( This wasnt fixed until late January). My balcony also didnt have a light bulb and that too wasnt put in until February. My dishwasher refused to wash dishes or dispense the detergent to wash said dishes, and even after having GE come out and look at it and maintenance look at it three times it still was not working and even flooded the main portion of my kitchen TWICE ( this wasnt replaced until early march). In addition, I wasnt;t able to lock my front door for some time(though the first incident of this was addressed and handled promptly). Aside from all of this its just been little things and it takes usually months for something to be fixed, up until the point where I requested to have my lease terminated even stating that my security deposit could be kept ( and was DENIED when I have perfect and valid reasoning to do so after all of these issues) and then things were being handled swiftly and efficiently. But now, because Id like to park my car in lobby parking being that Id rather not pay an extra100.00 dollars to park next to my significant other underground, Im being charged to park WHERE I LIVE. When I already pay $1,688.00+ to live here every month. This is absolutely ridiculous, and I HIGHLY DO NOT recommend leasing here or at either of the other two apartment complexes ran by this management unless they make some major changes.
