The Emerald Car selection was lacking at best. It had two small SUVs, two pickup trucks and one small sedan. Every airport that Ive ever gone to, I have been able to pick up a van or a large SUV. Other than that, the service was good, and the airport is efficient. Sent July 31, 2020This is an updated review from a rental I made on August 9, 2020. I needed another rental for a family event. I was pleasantly surprised to arrive 2 minutes before closing on a Saturday night and their Emerald club had a mini Van available. The other vehicle available was a full sized truck which we used because we were going on a day trip to Shaver lake and needed the cargo room. I feel like my concerns were heard and addressed. Thank you National management and staff. Changing your star rating from 2 to 4. It would be a 5 if you had more then just 2 vehicles to pick from for an Emerald customer. But I was happy.

I prefer National Car Rental for my business travel needs since they are the most convenient rental experience at major airports; you bypass the counter and pick a car. 90% of the time, I get a full size upgrade for the price of a mid-size and the check-out/check-in processes only take a few minutes.My latest rental was a 1-way rental from Fresno to SFO for no extra cost. They gave me a convertible sport-car for the price of a mid-size and a vehicle which exceeded my expectation. The car was great and the service was as good as Ive come to expect from National.

I’m here about two times per month on business, landing at about 9pm. There are never any cars on the lot and there is a line queued up waiting for whatever car comes next, which is usually some compact car no one wants. And they act like it’s a surprise that so many people have come to get cars, when you literally have to make a reservation

Could not be easier. I stepped up to the counter, a very nice, pretty young lady looked up my record, and sent me in my way. All I had to do was walk out the door to the National Car section of cars to select the vehicle of my choice ( there were several) and I was on my way. The one I chose was clean inside and outside with little mileage and very comfortable. It was a pleasure to do business with National renting and returning the car.

The vehicle selection was pretty limited; four Dodge Caravans, one Jeep Wrangler and one Ford F150 pickup. I chose a Dodge Caravan, but the first one I loaded into indicated a dash caution light for Oil Change Due. I loaded into a second Dodge Caravan and it was fine for the two weeks I used it.

While the attendant was gracious and trying to do her best to accommodate the customers, logistics failed the site. There were no cars for arriving customers. There were several of us waiting at the Executive Elite aisle, that the poorly supported attended had to run around and find cars for. Better planning is required.

I have been renting a great many vehicles.The selection at Fresno is often lacking. I like to drive SUV,s but many times there are none available.I think you are currently overpriced.Drop offs at bother airports are also more difficult than they should be and over priced. In this time I think National, should, like the airlines demonstrate additional flexibility.The billing has been sloppy. I have twice returned vehicles full of gas (always my option) but have been charged for fuel. As it was twice in a row it almost seemed fraudulent.

Smaller airports that have Executive Elite, choose your own car, present a problem. Several times when I arrive at the Fresno Airport there are no cars available. National needs to do a better job for their best customers and make sure some cars are available.

Renting with National was an easy process at Fresno. With status you can bypass the counter, go to the aisle and select a car. There was a good selection of cars, small and mid-size SUVs to pick from on the aisle. The check out was easy as well for a speedy departure from the airport.

National Car Rental is the BEST experience you will ever have. They are polite and will quickly exceed your expectation. With Emerald Club, I arrive and walk to their cars and pick which ever one I want. There is no additional cost for picking an upper end car. Check in and out is quick and an email receipt it sent directly to you. They are the BEST!

I would give it 5 stars but like with all company’s they have a few people working for them that are bad apples. Also depending on what airport you fly into and what time you fly in depends on weather you have a section or just mini vans left. Besides personal preference of car I would recommend this brand as I rent over 300 days a year and would not rent else were.

When American Airlines left us completely stranded in Fresno by cancelling our return flight home for at least 3 days with no alternatives/guarantees and with no offer for accommodations or anything, National came to the rescue. We rented a nice full-sized car and drove home through the scenic west.The desk clerk was friendly, understood our situation and supplied the solution. The car performed flawlessly, got good mileage and was comfortable for the 2-day drive.Good job, National, especially at Fresno!

We recently rented a large SUV (Ford Expedition Linited 2019) from National for a 14 day trip in California from Yosemite to Big Bear via the PCH. The price was the best from all of the rental agencies and being an Emerald Club member made the experience all that much better. The agents were very helpful and friendly even though we were delayed in our pick up at Fresno they held the SUV for us. The Expedition was amazing and made our trip very comfortable, safe and fun. I rent a lot of vehicles for work and have found National to be my go to when available and highly recommend them for a better price and great choice of vehicles and, they don’t charge extravagant fees if you rent from one spot and return to another like the others!

I always go National whenever I can. Love the Emerald Club perks. 90% of the time I get a great car. Only constructive feedback is that they need to do a better job of cleaning the windows. Clients dont travel with Windex and paper towels. A lot of the time I can barely see out of the windshield glass because its so cloudy and streaky inside.

National Car Rental has always been wonderful. I especially like the emerald club where you can pick your own car and drive out without stopping at the counter. The people are also very helpful.Cons: We rented a mini van for a week for a family vacation. The car was supposed to be returned at 4pm however we returned the car at 5:30 pm because the trip took longer than planned with two crying kids in the back we had to make an extra stop. Returning it late was my fault. I was charged an extra day of about $65 dollars to my credit card without a phone call. As someone who rents frequently from National, I would not use them again because I would expect better customer service or a little understanding.Overall they are good, just dont return it later you will be charged.

I have rented here 3 times. This last time there were only 4 vehicles on the lot, 3 of them minivans and one car. Another man was a few steps ahead of me and took the car. I had reserved a car but none were to be had. I ended up with a minivan. The man in front of me told me they were always out of cars. I have experienced this once before. To boot there were at least 2 others walking behind me looking for cars. I mentioned to the gate attendant checking me out that they needed more cars and she said no kidding. Not sure if that was related to the current circumstances or past experience. The staff was good, the van decent enough but selection was poor to say the least.

I got two car from them in a one week timeframe. The first one sounded like the car was about to fall apart. The second one had a electrical failure while I was driving and the brake stop working. I almost crashed and was stranded. I guess the one plus is that the tow people were cool.

Ive had a few minor incidents that took up unnecessary time but my overall experience has been quick. I love the remodeling thats taken place the last few months as I rent at that location 2 weeks a month. I hope that means its going to be an even better experience.

I have been renting from this Fresno Airport National for just under a year now. This is the first time my flights were delayed where I arrived outside to get my car at 12:17 AM. Apparently, they close at 12 and no one stuck around for the last flight that arrived that night and I was stuck without a car until I could get back the next day. They could have emailed me so at least I was aware of this as I had to get an Uber so besides getting in very late because of flight delays I also lost another hour trying to figure out what was going on. I called National and they told me that they close at 12 and sometimes the staff will wait a little but apparently they didnt this evening. Anyway, if your plans are getting you into Fresno after midnight you might want to select Hertz for a rental car as they were open.

Seamless rental experience.As has happened almost every time Ive rented from National, I arrived at the Executive aisle, picked the car I wanted and drove off in it. The check out kiosk took only a minute or so and I was on my way.This was a one-way rental. Returning the car at the LAX facility was also uneventful. Courteous agents and courteous shuttle driver.

The counter closes at 10PM, so if your plane is delayed or you are arriving later use other options (Avis and Hertz stay open longer). I gracefully was allowed to cancel my reservation calling 800 number while their kiosk at the airport was closed. My co-worker, who arrived a day later, couldnt get a car at all since they did not get his reservation which was processed through our corporate travel app.This location has fewer available cars than other vendors, which means they tend to run out of rentals. If you come in off peak, they still dont have as many options available and will charge you for an upgrade even though your reserved vehicle type is not available at the moment.

I like the Emarld Club aisle concept as it is so easy to select a car and drive off. Having to chose a car from a text description read by an agent is not nearly as helpful. The selection wasnt great but was able to rent a nice Buick that ran great.

Car reeked of smoke....leaving my clothes smelling like smoke all day. Also, check-in process was so slow. National desk was closed so I had to go to another desk and it took forever. Not a great experience.

This was the first time that I have rented a car from National, since my company made arrangements for employees to rent exclusively from them. Their Emerald Club makes it very easy to rent from them, and when they say you can go directly to Emerald Aisle and pick out your car they mean it. I would have preferred something besides a Toyota, like an American car. The return process was very painless.

I had reserved a car weeks in advance. When i got there there was no vehicles in the isle except for large SUVs. I waited like 15 minutes for them to clean a Maxima that had just arrived. I was in a hurry so i jumped in and left. As soon as i left the car reeked of POT. it is like they did not do anything to it. It was a one way rental to Denver to bring my ill Mother in Law to live with me. I could not take the smell and had to return it for a new vehicle. Once again, they did not have any vehicles so i had to take a Rogue, which i did not want in the begging because it was to tall for my Mother in Law to get into.I do not know what has happened to National lately but something is terribly wrong there. in 2 other occasions i forgot a cell phone and a tablet in the vehicle and and recovered it from them. I tracked to tablet that being used a an Enterprise location and then sold to someone online who buys electronic items.Shame on you National.

Absolutely the worst service Ive had in yrs. We reserved our car months in advance, listed our flight and arrival time on the reservation, only to find that out car wasnt ready. They were waiting for the only 1 SUV they had, which had just been returned - never mind our flight was 45min delayed! Or the fact we flew 5 hrs from the East Coast. Have been waiting for over 40 minutes and still no vehicle. Did I mention we are Emerald Club members? In the mean time, I can see the other rental companies like Budget, have several large SUVs available. Please DO NOT use National in Fresno, there are more reliable and better options.So we got the car. Other than vacuumed, very dirty inside, dusty and disgusting. Have to buy something to clean it with ..... Unbelievable!

My first time with national so it was a little confusing, No one was at the desk and a sign said to go straight to the lot, but a sign at the lot said to go to the desk. I had to have a guy from ALAMO car rental tell me what to do. Once I figured it out, it was easy - just pick a car and drive it off the lot! The Emerald Club is a good idea if you rent a lot.

I normally have a good experience with National. This time, the windows were terribly dirty on the inside. I had to clean them to be able to see when a bright light was shining through the glass (sun, headlights, etc) A little more attention needs to be paid to the interior of the cars when returned. Also the gas tank was not full. The attendant at the exit of the lot stated, I will make a note of that... Not sure what good that will do.

One of the worst locations. Customer service is terrible. Staff are really slow and rude.Came to this airport on a recent business trip and the whole experience with national car rental was terrible! Picking up the car, I have executive elite so I walked to the executive Emerald Isle only to find 2 cars left. No big deal, Im not picky with cars anything will do. The checkout process was slow and took awhile.Returning the car was infinitely worse. At ALL other national locations across the U.S. You pull the car into the returns area and the attendant will run out, scan your vehicle and give you a receipt right away. Whole process takes 5 seconds. This location however make you stop and wait at the entrance, there was only 1 attendant checking people out and checking people in, so it was painfully slow, I wasnt sure why everyone was stopped and lining up at the gate going back in, so I got out of car to see whats going on, the person working gave me major attitude and told me to wait while she check one car out then check one car in. After waiting some time I finally got to the front of line and she told me to stop and yelled at me for pulling too far forward because I wanted to avoid the spikes!! Wow! Talk about mean and rude. Then I was told that she ran out of paper and cant print me a receipt, whatever, I was ok with it being emailed to me. A couple min later I got my receipt and she charged me for 2 days when I only had the car for 1 day and 1 hour.I had to call their main customer service and they said I was charged wrong and credited me back the day. So check your receipt because this location does extra charges!!!! BEWARE!

Im an imerald executive elite,I always rent from here for work because its my only option with my job discount.I better tell you, there are the worst and rudest staff you will encounter in your life time, never saw a smile from anyone. They will always overcharge me or lets say most of the time I rent from here I get an over charge on my receipts so watch out for your final receipt , look for gas charges and daily charges, they usually charge you 5 gallons and extra days.Usually there are no cars at this location, and if you need a certain type of car you want like an SUV, you will have to look somewhere else.

There were only 3 cars available on the aisle, and none in preferred. THREE? I had to settle for a Hyundai Tucson...Economy instead of Standard or better (which is what club members pay for) is unacceptable!

We picked Ford Expedition up in Fresno and dropped it off in San Francisco. Before we make a reservation my husband, Jacobs Engineering employee, made a call and spoke with National representative regarding the mileage. National has an unlimited milage deal with Jacobs for there employee. National representative confirmed our unlimited mileage and we made the reservation.We were very unpleasant surprised when we got a bill for this car. They charged us almost twice more for extra mileage we made. We were told they charged extra mileage because we dropped it off in the different location. I rated one star because of this hidden fees.

Fresno National. It was OK. the rate plan was not fully explained and when I changed the drop off to Sacramento the price was doubled and this was not explained. My selection was also severely limited at the time of pick-up. You can get any car you want. As long as it was one of those 5 sitting their. Oh, and 2 of those were premiums.

Car picked up at FATs Emerald Club area. Nobody was certain as to where that was, but after asking three representatives the area was located. One reason for its not having been more obvious was that there were no sedans at the Emerald Club area, only three vehicles, two SUVs and one van, when my reservation called for a sedan. Took the van, hardly my choice. At least one of Nationals ground reps should have been able to point out (a) the exact area and (b) the fact that the choice was limited as well as not of the type and size I reserved. Car return at SFO was smoothly efficient.
