Excellent and knowledgeable staff. They helped me with an emissions problem that they knew wouldnt be solvable in a day but tried their best regardless.Receipts came itemized with part and labor expenses notated as well, which I appreciate from auto shops.

I scheduled an appointment for emissions testing first thing in the morning so I could be in and out. I have had to wait an entire day at other places. They identified that I had a brake light out and changed it quickly and for a minimal fee (compared to past bulb replacements, which were very costly at Firestone). The waiting area is beautiful, and I did not have to wait long at all for my car to be serviced. I would recommend to all my friends in the area. This will be my new car doc!

In the beginning of each month, it is very difficult to find a place that can provide state inspection services without having to wait around for hours.(Because of the high volume of those who did not do the inspection the month before on time.) I went this morning to Progressive, and Dave told me that it would be 45 minutes to get my car in, and another 15 minutes for him to conduct the state inspection. Well, after about 20 minutes, I was informed that the state inspection had already been completed! I guess he saw me there waiting, and decided to take care of the customer. Great job Dave - thank you for being courteous and all about customer service. You all have you a new customer!

I can’t say what enough good about my experience with Progressive. After CarMax in Midlothian cancelled my registration due to not having an emissions test, I quickly scrambled to see who was still open at 6PM. I will forever be grateful to the manger who accepted my car even though they were done testing for the day! I will say they have gained a new customer!! Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!! And a little bonus they have awesome antiques in their waiting room!

I have been going to Progressive for years for my work and personal vehicles. From state inspections to tires, to oil changes, to things as simple as replacing a light bulb (like they did today - in and out in 10 minutes!), they know their trade. They are fast, efficient, and get the job done. Every employee I have had the opportunity to work with have been courteous and helpful. I couldnt recommend them more.

With all respect and sympathy for those who posted issues with these folks-I was not going to use Progressive after seeing some of the negative posts. As there is a closer facility to me for the State Safety inspection, i first took my daughters car to them. That facility (Shortys) recommended i take the car to Progressive for my emissions testing.I am thankful to both the other garage and to the folks at Progressive. I was treated beyond courteously. Being new to this area the gentleman that greeted me told me all about area attractions including bringing up information on their counter computer; he treated me with honest friendship. He apologized in that his technicians were on lunch, saying it would probably still be a half hour before even getting the car in to look at it, but i was quite impressed when under the half-hour mark, they were finished.The folks at Progressive exceeded my expectations in every way; the kind of place you can only hope to find when you are new to an area.

I was going there for awhile, noticed a difference when I took my car in for codes I needed to be fixed, my total was around $800+ then once I got there it went to over $1,000... They charged me for testing which theyve never done before AND I had codes up for the issues at hand.. no testing needed. (And again theyve never charged me for testing, been numerous times for codes)Then I went in to get a tune up that ended up costing me $500! (AND THEY DIDNT EVEN CHANGE MY OIL OR SPARKS.) A normal tune up for a 4 cylinder car cost anywhere between $90-$150.THEN my mom took her car to get inspected, they failed her due to her exhaust explaining the WHOLE thing needs to be replaced costing around $900.. we definitely didnt do that and took her car to another shop that quoted us nearly half as much AND the exhaust DIDNT need to be replaced.Basically be careful going here, especially if youre a lady. Theyll upcharge you and mislead you.

Horrible customer service!! We brought our car by to have its emissions re-tested around 4pm and they said it would be around 40 minutes and that they would call us when it is done. 2 hours go by and no call, so we ride back over to see how much longer and the man at the desk seemed very ornery that my husband was even asking (I understand being busy but it was a quick question) and he said like another 20 minutes and that they would call. So 7pm rolls around (their closing time) and we hadnt heard anything from them, no phone call at all. So we drove over, our car that we left was unlocked with our stuff in it and they had the key in their building that also had the key we needed to get into the house were dog sitting at. We knocked on the door for a little bit before going to their service door to find it unlocked and open!!! We yelled hello and got no response so I called their security provider to let them know that they neglected to close up properly with customers vehicles inside. Over all a horrible experience, they couldnt be bothered to give their customer a call or lock up correctly. We ended up finding an old broken spare key that still turned my car on for my 4am 1hr commute and drive 30 minutes to get a spare dog sitting key, to make our normal 20 minute dog sitting drive a 50 minute one, all because calling a customer in a 3 hour time span for a redo emissions test was too much to ask for. Save yourself from the time, frustration, and attitude their employees have and go somewhere else.**update** so we finally heard back from the store this morning, they couldnt be bothered to call my husbands phone number I left in a voicemail and instead called me several times at work and then when my husband called them they laughed at him and told him they did call and leave a voice mail at 6 when the car was ready which was a lie because we were there at 6 when they told us 20 more minutes. So I had to step outside of my job and call and explain to him that laughing at a customer for any reason is wrong and they know that. I then proceeded to point out their lie about it being ready at 6 to which he responded I made a mistake, we called at 6:45. Now mistakes are fine, we all make them, and I told him that I understand that he probably thinks I was being a ridiculous customer with my tone of voice but there is no record of us ever having received a voice mail so he started saying well I dont know how you didnt get it and what is wrong with your phone and I have time stamps well then where was the call and voice message? Then he starts saying well come pick your stuff up we close at 7 not 7:01, not 7:02.. with his attitude when I am already extremely upset for them laughing and not understanding that when a customer leaves a number to call the number that was left. So his smart mouth keeps going and wont even let me speak until he hangs up on me. In conclusion, 6:45 is not 20 minutes after we visited, 6:45 is 15 minutes before they close at 7 and almost a full 3 hours of the car being there, so if we had actually gotten the call and voice mail like they claim we would have only had 15 minutes to get there. No matter what happened to their mystery phone call, the way that they handled the entire situation was insane from the way they handled the situation to them laughing. Oh apparently they have always had a problem with that door that was just left open and are fixing it today good to know that it took them until and irate customer called their security service to notify them about their entire shop being unsecure to a point anyone couldve gone in and stolen things from their customers cars that they were trusted with, for them to actually care enough to fix it. Yea dont use this shop, hopefully they will get better employees or get lessons on how to defuse customer situations instead of being as nasty as he was. Our friends and family wont be going here anymore, thanks Manager Jay!

I regret that this place worked on my classic 1987 Pontiac Fiero. The repairs were supposed to be a surprise Christmas present in 2018. Now, the thought of this place and the damage done to my car is a nightmare. Their inexperienced mechanics damaged the manual transmission by mishandling during excessive test driving......*This is in response to the Owners reply below:This business has not reached out to me, by phone, about the damage done to my manual transmission while the car was in its care. For 2 days I called and requested to speak to the owner, before contacting the BBB, and was told the owner would call, but he never did. I spent nearly $3,000 with Progressive automotive for mediocre work and mechanics damaged the transmission. Why would I not return a phone call if someone from this business had reached out to me?This is the first time I have had to contact the BBB for help in dealing with an automotive business ever. I have owned the classic Pontiac Fiero that this business damaged, for 27 years. I have had no problems over the years with prior work being done on the car at other automotive businesses. I have service records in thick folders with all of the work ever performed on my classic car over the years. The work Progressive did was mostly service upkeep, things I have had done to the car over the 27 years of ownership with no problems performed by skilled, professional mechanics.Progressive automotive located in Fredericksburg, VA. told me and two other people 2 of their mechanics quit out of frustration from not knowing how to service Pontiac Fieros. ( I WILL ATTEST TO THIS) I was told this several times as the reason for why it had taken so long to complete repairs…6 weeks total. When I took the car back about the transmission grinding, I was told again about 2 mechanics quitting by RJ and J.The Fredericksburg Progressive mishandled my car for accepting to do work on it but not knowing how. Progressive returned the car back to me with a broken key, dirt & grime in the interior, and a damaged transmission, dirty floor mats with small rocks/debris, and fuel on empty. I never saw any so-called parts taken from the transmission you speak of.  I was told several excuses for what damaged the transmission but never saw anything. One excuse given was that the fluid was low, which I disagreed with. I also stated in my complaint to the BBB that it is your mechanics negligence for excessively driving the car and not noticing the transmission fluid being low.  Progressive had the car for 6 weeks and drove it enough to put wear on new tires. Why would the mechanics not notice low transmission fuel if it was low?And I never sent a mechanic to your shop ,Bill, or whomever you are. I have never spoken to you, unless you are the Stafford service manager pretending to be the owner. I spoke with someone named Bill at the Stafford location over the phone who said he was a service manager and not the owner. That Bill said he would tell Bill, the owner, to call me. I left my number for Bill, the owner, to call me before I contacted the BBB…he did not call and has not called me at the phone number I left with Bill, the service manager in Stafford. I was never allowed the opportunity to speak with you Bill, the owner. I asked to speak with the owner and called both locations several times for 2 days, and was given the runaround.Progressive damaged the gearshift in the manual transmission while my vehicle was in its care. I stand by this.*Bill, the manager/owner has not called me or left any messages.

Kudos: They have creative ways to manage car care during a time of social distancing. This time it was something simple--an annual inspection. After a friend strongly recommended this auto repair company, I decided to start bringing my car here.

Went to them for a vehicle inspection based off of their reputation. They were able to fit me into the schedule and pricing was reasonable. I only gave 4 stars as they missed some damage in the sidewall of one of my tires that I noticed after a couple of days of driving. After calling them I was able to take it in and establish that the damage was not a safety issue, just cosmetic. Professional and responsive.

I went to get emissions done on my truck and the person doing emissions kept starting my truck while it was already started trying to damage my truck and I done appreciate it!!

Wow. Fast, easy, clean. Everyone was super nice and I was in and out in a snap.

It is an eerie feeling sitting at a light, the light turns green, taking the foot off the brake, pressing the accelerator, and nothing happens. The vehicle eventually went into gear and I putted along---this was not normal. I pointed the vehicle to Progressive, they put it on the hoist, and stated something you just do not want to hear---you need a new transmission. They gave me several options and their costs so that I could pick the best for my situation. Once I gave the go ahead, they picked up the new transmission, installed it, and had it ready for me on time and on budget. All during the ordering, installation, and testing they kept me informed to the status. I have nothing but praise for the Progressive team---thank you!

They open early. They did a smog inspection for my out of state car in advance of Virginia registration. No BS, just got it done. I really appreciated their friendliness and fast work. At 200K miles my Camry will need some other work, and Ive found the shop to do it.

Just relocated from out of State. After going to two different places that either couldnt do both the safety and emissions inspections or only did them on large trucks, we stumbled across Progressive. They took care of us while we waited in their super comfortable waiting room. A nice ending to an otherwise frustrating day. Great find. We will use them for future service needs.

This is one of two places I trust with my cars. I actually havent taken my car here in years simply because I have a great mechanic nearby (Sealston Automotive)But if I did move closer to this place I would take my cars here instead. Its hard to find a good mechanic who is trustworthy. Its also rare to find a place that doesnt talk down to me.

It was my first time visiting this shop and the staff was so friendly and accommodating. The gentleman that assisted with a test drive was so informative and knowledgeable about what may be going on with my car. The greatest part is that he never recommended unnecessary services, and even told me what my best course of action was in resolving my car issue. As a woman, I’m always concerned about being taken advantage of because I am not familiar with vehicle functions, and I’ve had negative experiences with other car shops, but not with this one! I would recommend this facility to everyone and will make sure to spread the word about how amazing my experience was. I also will be back for regular maintenance services!

Ive taken my car to them a couple of times now. The staff is friendly and easy to work with. They offer a shuttle service as well if you have to leave your vehicle with them and will drop and pick you up from home if you live in the area. They do all sorts of work/repairs but I mainly took my vehicle to them for a 4-wheel alignment, tire repair and emissions check.

I highly recommend using Progressive Automotive. It is a diamond among the rough of many auto repair shops in Stafford and Fredericksburg. We have brought two of our vehicles here three times in the past two months. They have completed the jobs and done the repairs efficiently and in a very cost-effective, reasonable manner. They are honest and trustworthy. Highly recommended.

Progressive Automotive and Tire off Rt 17 have always taken good care of my vehicle. Have been using them for at least 10 yrs and I am sure 10 more.

Ive only gone for emissions tests, but the waiting area is well kept, staff is friendly, and service was pretty quick.

I have visited progressive off of rt 17 n, several times. Beautiful waiting room, and everyone is very friendly. Great mechanics also.

Full Set of AT truck tires, alignment and a transmission flush is what it cost when the gentleman came out and said that I could not put my little 8 ft utility trailer in a space in front of the store...after I already had it in place, and chocked. With tons of empty spaces in front of the store, it was that important to him. Too many tire and auto competitors in the area to be rude to a new customer.

VERY DISAPPOINTED. My daughter brought her 2013 Altima to the Fburg location for inspection and it failed due to worn rear brakes and steering leak. She was quoted $1300 for rack/pinion replacement. We took the car to get re-inspected at the Nissan dealership...and it PASSED with no required repairs.This was disappointing because my previous experience was great -- went here for car inspection in July and even recommended in-laws here last month when they moved from out of town. Too bad...
