The Bad:1. No one answers phone (even on local, which ends up being on an answering machine, which is full so we cant leave a message)2. Long wait, about 1 hr minimum3. Shuttle takes longer than other rentals4. Our car came with 3/4 tank less full, we didnt notice it right away...their yellow tag noted full... So we got cheated on.The Good:1. The person who checked us out was nice2. Check out process is easy3. Less wait on weekdays

Booked through my airline. Easy process. Shuttle was waiting and took me straight away. Same when I dropped car off. Straight to airport.Leila was my agent. Extremely friendly and helpful. Did not get a shady vibe and will use them again.

In a word, sirs, it was deplorable. We had initially placed this reservation several months prior to the date. During the reservation process, we had tried to reserve a booster seat, but there was no option to do so during the reservation process. We had very little communication, and when I went in to view the reservation, the system was unwieldy and difficult to review.When we arrived at the off-site location, (which was not clearly mentioned in the reservation process), we were greeted with a relatively short line, but a long wait time, until the agent called us forward. It took him several minutes to figure out we were not “Fox” rental agreement, but a “Payless” rental agreement. The agent was surly, dour and quite short with us. He finally got the paperwork sorted out but had difficulty finding our keys. When we mentioned that we needed a booster seat, he went to the back, and got us one, but never mentioned that it would be $9.99 a day. Sir, I could have gone to Walmart and purchased the same exact booster seat for $14.99, instead of paying $59.94 for it.He did mention about the $11.00/ day collision waiver, and we opted to take it, something that we normally wouldn’t have done, but wanted this peace of mind. When I signed the bill, I realized that there was an extra $150.00 on it, which the surly agent advised me was a deposit and would be refunded once the car was returned. Once again, that was never mentioned in the online rental agreement.The car was what we needed it to be, clean, good mileage, etc. I have no complaints about the quality. We returned the car upon the agreed upon date. When we arrived, the intake agent was another surly individual. Unbeknownst to us, we had somehow scratched the front bumper. Neither my husband, nor I could remember hitting or scratching anything, but with that low of a bumper, it is not impossible, especially with curbs and parking lots around the area. It was a relatively minor scratch, however, he treated us like we deliberately caused the damage. He said to us, “You are going to have to pay for that damage.” When we mentioned that we had purchased the collision damage waiver, his attitude was of disbelief. Thankfully I had the paperwork to prove it. In a rude tone, he advised my husband that he would have to write down what happened.This debacle was one of the worst customer experiences from a business I’ve ever had. From the lack of communication at the time of the reservation, to the rude and surly reservation agents, to the unexplained charges, we are a dissatisfied customer, and ones who won’t be returning.May I recommend that you hire employees who give a damn about customer service? We were never rude to the agents, we tried to be as pleasant as possible, because we understand what service is about, we have worked service positions before. However, both interactions from pick-up to drop-off were very negative.I would also recommend that you communicate more clearly about your charges, especially the exorbitant cost of a booster seat and the cost of the deposit that wasn’t explained in the reservation process.

Be careful. I booked online weeks before my trip. When I arrived, the car rental agent tried to change my price by adding like $100 to my bill. I had to call him out on this in front of his staff. He immediately changed his tone.

45 minute wait in line. 4 people in front of me. The bright spot was the wonderful, yet harried, customer service rep. She did everything she could with a crappy system. When the car I reserved was unavailable, she asked me to go into a smaller car, for a discount, which turned out just fine. My biggest issue was contacting them. I lost my personal car keys, and it is simply impossible to get through to them by phone. My second biggest issue is the quality of their system. Sure, great price, but in the end, I should have paid twice as much for a more reputable car rental agency. Wish I would have looked at the reviews first, my biggest mistake.

I have literally given this company 3 different chances. I have now learned my lesson. As mentioned in other reviews, customer service is NOT their main objective. I have said to the rep at the desk NUMEROUS times, I do NOT want any additional coverage, Road Side assistance, Bells and/or whistles. They agree and tell me to initial here and here. I dont read the contract which is my fault, I agree. But, I am trusting them when I say I DO NOT want these extras. Then sure enough I am charged the extras and I have no recourse as I did initial the contract. I will never again use them as I trust in customer service that when I request no extras, I get no extra charges when I initial. This is definitely their ploy and it has worked on me again and again. I guess I am a slow learner Never ever again...no more. Worse experience and with a dozen others there in Vegas, to rent from....I will pay the extra $$ to rent, instead of the surprise extra in the end.

Long wait and the car is horrible! And we paid for a premium price. Completely disappointed. Car looks like its been in an accident, no proper maintenance, not even filled with window washer fluid. Car smells like people have smoked cigarettes and weed in it, dont even want to have my one year old daughter sit in it. The agent that helped us insisted we get the additional insurance because our own personal car insurance doesnt cover their car. Ended up going to a different location to trade the car, and was told that the original agent basically lied to us. They have no sense of customer service. Pay a higher price to go somewhere else! Horrible!

This 5 star review is ONLY for Brian, our shuttle driver with Payless Cars. We just wanted to take the time to let you know that Brian, whom worked on Tuesday, Dec 18th and on Christmas Day, was our shuttle driver from and to the SNA (orange county) airport. Brian was fantastic! He was friendly, personable, and helpful. We felt absolutely TERRIBLE that we didnt have cash on us for a tip to give him and wanted to make sure that he got the recognition he deserved. Please please please make sure that he knows how much we appreciated his service, especially on a big holiday. We are so sorry for not having the tip. We hope Brian receives the recognition he deserves from Payless cars. On another note, customer service at your registration counter was not so great and this is an area your team should work to improve upon. You didnt have the type of car we reserved and the process to change cars, upgrade, etc was long, tedious and challenging. However, thank you again to Brian!

Check your bill carefully when dropping your car off. I booked via Hotwire 2 days for $25, and my final bill emailed to me from Payless was $149!!!! More than a hundred of that for gas even though tank was full. Calling customer service didn’t resolve the issue - only generated a ticket to investigate that will take 3 days. I called my credit card to report it as a fraudulent charge.Otherwise things were fine and car was as described. The price was great but again billing and customer service were unacceptable.

If I could give it “0” stars I would. The worst experience of the hundreds of times I have rented a car. Waited in line 30 minutes. Computer broke. No one could fix it. I reserved a full size car and they didn’t have one available. I was told I would be upgraded to a Toyota Sienna minivan. No extra charge. When we opened the doors we couldn’t believe the filth, stains and broken pieces. We wouldn’t accept it. Finally after looking at 5 cars we accepted the best of what was there. Another couple in front of us in line was upset as well but they left in their dirty car as they had to be at a convention shortly thereafter. They were already posting on Twitter about their awful experience. One of the cars we got the keys to was full of sand from the beach. Footprints on the backs of the front seats and dog hair in it. Buyer beware. Don’t rent here!!

For a Saturday early AM arrival and early Sunday departure, transactions were smooth. Shuttles arrived frequently at the ground transportation center, quick ride to the off site fox/Payless counter. Gate to took under 20. No lines. My mid sized rental however was a worn down corolla that smelled pretty bad. Low prices though- if difference is small I might consider another company

I held reservations with Payless and thrifty. I got to the airport and there was a shuttle for Payless but not for thrifty so I decided to get in the Payless shuttle. I should of waited. I’m standing in line and there are 4 employees here and 2 other customers and they all told me they were too busy to help me and I’d have to wait. I understand the 1 star ratings now. beware!!!

What a dump! Reserved a full size SUV and they did not have it. Ask if we go in a minivan for a discount. I asked what the discount was then Brad the manger came out and was rude and could not answer the question either. He asked what my problem was. I said we waited in line 45 minutes and you dont have the selection I reserved a months ago. So after 20 minutes someone must have dropped off the piece of trash he put us in. Dented to hell and probably did not have an oil change in 50k miles. We drove it to where we were going. Called them the next day to bring us another car since it felt like the one we had was going drop the engine and brakes were shotty. They brought us another piece of crap with less miles. Terrible! Pay the extra money for another company.

I looked at there reviews I was hesitant to rent from them I gave them a chance, oh what a big mistake. Look at there reviews make your disicion on how they are rated. Customer service 0, accessibility 0 , Phone number availability 0. Over all 0.Go with a reputable company dont add stress to your trip...

Horrible...horrible...horrible. should be called Paymore. Never paid so much for a rental. Alot of hidden fees. Do not do the pre-pay on the gas. They charge 60.00 and there is no way you can get that much gas into this car. They dont open until 5:00 am and our flight took off at 6:00am. Had to taken uber. Total ripoff. Never again. Beware

Worst expierence. Tried to charge us for a knick on the front windshield and have us pay for an entire new windshield. It was the size of a grain of rice and definitely was not caused by us. Since we did no more than 35 minutes total driving in the 3 days we rented it. Rezo and Eddy greeted us when entering Payless. Two of the rudest people I’ve ever met...I actually cried. First of all, Eddy says we are fine and good to go. Then as we are carrying our suitcases tells us we need to sign a waiver and pay for an entirely new windshield. Rezo comes over and continues to argue with us, although we did not do the damage. We ended up leaving and not signing the paper because they told us we could leave prior. ALSO, I’ve never had someone with a flashlight go over the windshield for 15 minutes and starting while I’m still trying to get out of the car. This is not how a company is run. I hope both of them are fired and I’m still crying. Thanks for nothing.

Non smoking car smelled like smoke. People who arrived after us got cars and were out the door before our slow agent processed us. Then had to sit for ten minutes while our car was being washed. It came out still quite dirty. Lots of dings and scratches and the employee seemed annoyed that we wanted it noted on our rental papers. Never again.

Cheap and a real good price, decent service, but they give you a TERRIBLE car. When we got it, there was duct tape to hold the bumper in place and glue around the hoods edge.

Awful experience! Car smelled like smoke, Fuel at a ¼ tank level. Make sure you complain before leaving their property because calling them is almost impossible. Would not recommend this location for your auto rental needs.

BEWARE! Worst customer service! Waited in line for 45 min to get my car. Rental agents are lazy, slow and rude! Used toll ways on our vacation. Unlike other agencies Payless charges customers an admin. fee for each time you use the tollway and they gives your information to the toll authority so that they charge you late fees and penalties. In my experience the car agency pays the toll and charges the customer. NEVER WILL USE THIS AGENCY AGAIN.
