I already made reservations here two weeks prior. Apparently the company received a new scanner to scan your license. For some reason my license was not scanning but it was scanning for other customers. It was about midnight so I was already tired and frustrated because my flight was delayed and the female who was working was very sarcastic. I fly to Ohio once a month and I always use budget or Hertz but unfortunately during the time of booking they were out of cars but anyway, I went with this rental company. I asked the lady to try to scan my license again and she replied,” you heard my manager there’s nothing we can do because your license is not scanning, I tried 4 times already!” I completely understand that my license was not scanning.My issue was she never tried to help me as a customer. It seems as though she was brushing me off and wasn’t trying to fix the problem. I even mentioned to her that I used budget before and I never had this issue. She replied,” we are two different companies.” With this statement I felt like she was insulting my intelligence. I did not want to cause a scene and she was unwilling to help me further so I went over to budget to see if they had any available cars for the weekend and asked the worker there to scan my license. My license was scanning for budget. Unfortunately, budget did not have any available cars . I went to Hertz and had to pay more money, but my license scanned. So it was national rental car agency equipment that was causing the issue and the lady who was working on 08/21/2021 around midnight was not trying to help and was very nonchalant and sarcastic ! I didn’t get the worker name but I know her manager name was either Kayla or Karla . I do not recommend this rental agency, their equipment is non-functioning and the customer service is HORRIBLE.

This place is an epic fail. Other airports would have a sign that states, “National reservations go and get a car.” This place…..there is no National staffs present. Did this National go bankrupt? We saw a National staff walked in behind the service desk, grabbed a cup of water and walked back out without saying 1 word to us. Then, a nicer lady at enterprise walked over to the National desk and informed us that we must go over to the Enterprise desk.Again, this is a epic for an executive elite member. I should have stayed with Hertz.

Nearly impossible to get someone on the other line, car was due for an oil change and I wanted to swap it out and rather than driving to swap it out I wanted to see what vehicles they had available…well I been trying to call to find out for the past couple of days and no one seems to be available to pick up the phone…maybe staffing shortages are to be blamed? 🤷🏽‍♂️ my car wasn’t all that clean when I picked it up but since that’s all they had at the time I had no choice but to take it…..

Our first vehicle had transmission issues, so we had to swap out the vehicle. After speaking with the national office and being frustrated of having to return to the airport. We were greeted by Sheena who was nice and friendly. She turned a bad situation into a great situation m her attitude and willingness to help us enjoy our stay in Columbus was above and beyond our expectations. Thank you Sheena! Youre the best!

We picked up our car at the Columbus Ohio airport. The location was easy to find. The staff were the most friendly rental car staff we’ve ever dealt with and the car was spotless! Best of all, we were in and out within minutes. I will only use National from now on.

The mid-size car that I had reserved was not available and I had to drive a large pick truck. Another negative was that the pick up truck definitely had a smoker in it as it reeked of smoke.

Utter disappointment! We arrive at 715am from BWI, and we were met with being told to stand in line for a car. I asked the attendant, what’s rationale of priority and she, there is none. Well, I said, Ma’am I reserved a luxury car or SUV, because I am 6’5 and a disabled veteran, so I can’t fit in normal cars…the attendant said, sorry this is our process today. That was awful!

The rental experience was not what Im used with National. I rented via website a Full size car and when I arrived to Columbus airport there were only 3 cars available and they were all SUVs. I have rented 4 times in the last 7 weeks and ALWAYS the same thing...SUVs or minivans is what Im offered. It annoys me to arrive and see the only cars available is what nobody else wants...especially when my reservation was done 2 weeks ahead of time. Not nice

Check-in and return went great, but after driving for about an hour the air freshener wore off and the car smelled of cigarette smoke - has happened a few times with national - i understand they are in a difficult spot with and the previous user is to blame, just wish the odor wasnt masked to start

I rented a car for 2+ weeks from the cmh airport. As I arrived, National had very few cars located in the emerald aisle, but many an aisle over in the specialty section. Needing a larger vehicle for a family trip, I asked the manager if I could take one of the many minivans on the emerald lot. They were all locked and could not be accessed without asking an agent. He initially said no and gave the reason that they were all reserved. After pressing him for several minutes, he finally gave in and let me rent one.Here are my big complaints:1. I am at the executive elite level and cmh has no executive emerald aisle as other airports do around the country. This means that I have no better choice of cars than that of someone signing up for emerald club with no rentals. What is the point of attaining executive elite and renting with National? So I can fight over a compact suv? When I asked the managing attendant if I could have a specialty vehicle, which was at best a Chevy Tahoe, the answer was no.2. The managing attendant was extremely rude and acted like I was bothering him. I am seeing this more and more with loyalty programs. Everything is either a fight with or inconvenience for the employees. And all I am asking for is a car that is a little better than the standard. And I think I should receive that for the loyalty I have given to National.I will not be renting with National at cmh again... it is just not worth the aggravation and mediocre vehicle.

The vehicle was not cleaned out very well. There were left over empty soda bottles, food wrappers, general pieces of trash.In addition the vehicle was not well maintained. The right front tire was low on air, so much that the tire pressure notification system indicator engaged. All tires were below their recommended pressure, but one was several pounds lower than the others. Also, the vehicle had Texas plates and the location of rental was Ohio. While this seems to be something rather common, what it indicates is that National is not paying its fair share of road use taxes to Ohio as those taxes have been paid to Texas. IN addition the indication that the vehicle was properly registered was difficult to ascertain. In many states registration tags are placed upon the rear license plate, this vehicle did not have tags on any license plate, front or back. It did however have on the front windshield stickers, issued by the state of Texas which were current, but they did not indicate that they were registration stickers, rather that they were compliance with vehicle standards. My point here is I was concerned about the police pulling me over to ask about lack of proper registration.Why did I not chose another vehicle or return to get another one? First of for the class I has reserved, this was the only one. If I wanted to get something similar Id have to upgrade. Or, Id have to give up what I wanted and get something in a lesser class and lose aspects I needed. With respect to the cleanliness and tires those aspects did not become apparent until we had the car well away from the rental location.

There are 4 aisles at this location. Two of them are full of high trim, new model, fancy or even luxury cars and big suvs. But remember, if you are a loyal emerald club member, even an executive elite like me, you are not allowed to select a car in these two aisles. You have to go to the other two aisles that full of midsize cars, compact suvs and cars you’ve never considered to buy or drive. People at customer service told me those nice cars are all reserved. As my understanding, good cars here are available to people except emerald members. Actually I got a good Dodge Challenger after 30 min waiting and the car is what my 2 stars for.I know it’s not easy to go to other car rental providers after being executive elite in emerald for 3 years but definitely won’t rent National at this location any more.Reply from customer service was official, careless and arrogant. I changed from 2 stars to 1 star and this star is for the car.Update: You can find other similar reviews about this location as well, complaining small and bad cars in Emerald aisle and unfriendly service, etc.

Their App is excellent as I had to update my reservation like 6 times due to all the travel plan changes thanks to Covid.

Nice truck, but there was a crack in the windshield when we picked it up. The guy checking is our didnt notice. Since i was an emerald club member, I wasnt given the option to Mark the car beforehand on a walk around.I specifically told them I did not want the fuel refill option upon pickup.It was very cold, the crack expanded up the windshield about 12 in. I was charged for this damage.I was also charged $54 for fuel refill, despite the fact that the fuel tank was full upon dropping the car off.

So the emerald aisle concept is really cool. Only two issues; 1. Late in the day only dog models are available. I don’t believe the company should buy any Chevy or Fords as they don’t play well with Apple play (personal preference) 2. So many of their cars reek of pot. It seems they aren’t enforcing no smoking rule and it’s annoying to hop in and out of cars looking for ones that don’t stink. As the day goes on seems like pot cars are left.

I’ve used National for a few years now but lately I’ve run into issues. The first issue is the quality of carbon the Emerald aisle. Lately, it’s filled with Konas. Most recently I rented a vehicle to drive and visit my father who lives approximately 400 miles away. 2 hours into my trip the tire sensor display informs me the rear passenger tire has low air. I stop, put air in the tire. I drive another 2 hours, same sensor same tire, low again. I call National’s roadside service and inform them they have a leaky tire. I had two options. Pay $55 for a donut or drive north another 30 minutes for an exchange of car. I decided to exchange the car. This car is nice. No tire issues I finish my trip. On the day I had to come back the rear driver side tire has low air in it! Does anyone at these rental places check the tire pressure?

3 stars instead of 5 mainly due to the lack of selection in the Emerald Aisle I booked under. When I got there at 3pm, there was literally only 3 cars available. 2 VWs and a Chevy Spark sub compact tin can in Smurf blue color. I took one of the VWs. The oil change indicator warning was on and after a day of driving the TPMS light came on. I did appreciate the ice scraper left in the car since the car had not been cleaned off of snow and ice from the previous day snow storm. I ended up having to use it to prevent chunks of ice flying off the roof.

Overall this rental was easy. Car was in great shape and did what we needed it to.However, I was recently upgrade to Executive Elite status and I really didn’t get any different choice in cars. The customer agent at the desk in the garage was like “oh that’s nice” pick a car from over there - same aisle as I picked from before that status change. Sooo I am not sure what your status change gets me....

Normally I have an outstanding experience with National Car Rental but on my recent trip the tires gave me issues. The pressure was low so I took the car to a mechanic to properly fill them. Within an hour the tire pressure message came on again. When I showed my brother the tires he was shocked because the tread was dangerously low. When I pointed this out to the rental car return person he said yes the tread was below their standards. Why on earth then did they rent me that vehicle? Another item to add to my list when getting a rental car. This is dangerous!

National continues to be a business traveler agency IMO; which is not unexpected. However kudos go out to Enterprise local agency that allowed me to return my national rental instead of driving an additional 30 minutes to airport. check-in was speedy and there was no additional charge to drop off at Enterprise. Dont think this is an everywhere policy but it should be.

Manager at National Rental at the airport was rude to my sister and me, clearly only wanted to make money in whatever way he could, held us at the table for around 40 minutes because he was angry we weren’t falling for his sale schemes. Even spent about 5 minutes pretending to have a conversation with the other woman there when I told him I wanted to cancel the insurance, just so he could have me find out on the phone that I won’t be able to get it elsewhere (this part is hard to explain but basically he’s just a business man trying to steal your money so beware!!!).

Really enjoy using National rent a car. I usually just rent economy cars, but with National I was able to get a Toyota Tacoma and didnt have to pay any extra for it. It was fun. And the not having to weight on line is fantastic.

The rental car was very clean, but there was a mechanical issue. At highway speeds above 73 mph the rear end vibrated badly, I’m guessing due to a tire(s) being out of balance. When I say vibrating I mean forcibly shaking, not a pleasant feeling. I didn’t feel safe driving any faster than that. I reported this to the attendant upon returning the car, who seemed unconcerned.

Today 12-10-2020 was picking up Standard SUV booked by my company CompHealth at Columbus OH airports as I’ve been doing it over past 3 years. When I showed up the only SUV was RAV4 in the executive isle and all rest small cars. As I had a Standard SUB booked and saw next row Jaguar, armada, pathfinder, and a bunch (about 15) other standard suvs I asked if I could have one of those. The answer - surprisingly was- no they all were booked and preselected. When I stated I cannot get lower class as RAV is middle class and I had booked standard abs it’s customary get upgraded not downgraded especially considering my status and how I much I drive National rent a car- I was told by the lady at the booth I can have the those if I was to pay extra. Wait a second- you are telling me they all specially reserved but! You will give them to me against some extra $. Also you not giving me anything for downgrading me to Toyota while I have Ford Edge or similar booked! Ridiculous. As I am a frontline worker- icu doctor- I had to go and took the RAV4. On the top of being downgraded car wax short on gas. I took a pic of the gas level abs happy to provide. As driving out of the lot the lower level was “marked”. I have no idea what was marked!!! Also it’s difficult to bring car back at the gas lever taken from the lot. Those are kind of not good or nice situations and I always ask full tank!!!! Oh, needless to say still nothing offered either for the downgrade of gas shortage. Way to treat your most regular customers National. I am very upset. I’d like to escalate the issue. I am determinate defend my rights, $, status etc. There must be a way of making that right. I was offered before extra Free rental days for gas shortage, unavailable vehicle class at Omaha airport. I understand it’s been a difficult year for everyone and trust me no one better than me knows that or felt it as much as I did working in risky and draining environment. And I definitely can understand if there were no vehicles available on the lot but those cheap tricks- all booked but for extra $ you can get it- I did not buy! What about my booking? When we arrived at the Columbus Ohio International Airport rental area, the vehicle requested on the reservation through the Emerald Club was not available. The manager said it might take 5 minutes, not unreasonable during the holidays. As we waited, the manager ( didnt get his name unfortunately) was on the phone with the associates that clean and bring the vehicles to the customers. It became clear through the conversation that the vehicle would not be ready as promised. The manager never hesitated. He simply replaced the vehicle with one from another class to get us on our way. Now that is incredible service and great customer relations. This is why I maintain my association with National through the Emerald Club.

National Car Rental is really beyond my expectation!I forgot my clutch purse in the rental and called the lost and found service.They took immediate action, found the purse under my driver seat, and contacted me for a safe return. Eventually I received my precious purse that almost had my everything! including my SSN card.This experience is just one out of a thousand or tens of thousand.I felt so lucky and so thankful for National Car Rental Services.Definitely give a top rating if there is 6 out of 5, I will give them!Thank you 100 times!

The rental was great, got a compact car in the emerald aisle, which runs on less gas and saves money for my company. Had a snow brush inside which I ended up using on three days. Only issue was when asked if I wanted to pay a full tank of gas I said no, and after being asked twice am I sure - I said no ( I was doing low mileage so used 1/4 tank). When I got my bill a full tank was charged. I wrote to National and within 1 day they had replied and sent a refund - which is good, but shouldn’t have to do that.

I really thought this was a great location to rent from I have been renting from them for years and never came across this problem I went to national to get a car today I seen a car I wanted but there was no keys in it went back to counter man said truck needed oil change why was truck even placed on aisle and not serviced ?? Then he said oh I cant find the keys that was the worst lie ever I walked out and left so! I would of respected if he just said he was holding the the pickup for someone or he wanted to keep it made the company looked bad and know my vacation I planned is screwed ! Thanks alot !

Nationals Emerald Aisle is such a convenience. Just arrive off your flight, grab your bags and go. Nothing to worry about at the counter. Just get in your car and go. And there is always a great selection every time I have rented. The app works well for booking and keeping track of your rentals. I wont use another company for my rentals.

The staff were great!! Picking out/up a vehicle was so easy! Same as returning! I can’t say enough about how great of an interaction with staff it was.The only reason it’s 4 out of 5 is the fact that the interior of the vehicle wasn’t very clean. The dashboard and seats were dirty, the inside of the windows were smeared. I ended up wiping down the dashboard and steering wheel before I left for my trip.

Due to the recent Covid-19 plandemic social experiment. I have been doing all my travel VIA driving, rather than flying. I have used National as my primary rental company. Since April 2020, I have rented a car all but two weeks. In this time, Ive never been able to successfully contact anyone at my local National facility (Port Columbus).I enjoy the rates that National offers our company, however, recently, car selection has been very limited and even worse in the ExecutiveElite isle. Even though I was getting a rental for the next month, the location told me I had to take a mid size car. They had no SUVS even though I am an Executive member.To be clear, Im a big guy and I do not fit in these small cars. They continually told me that I had to take whatever they had. I found this to be completely unacceptable. I refused to conform to their demands that I didnt have a choice and called the National customer service line. After over an hour on the phone with them. They was able to find an SUV for me.To summarize, great cars (when available), great prices, terrible customer service, even for someone that has over 176 rental days so far in 2020.

The email address does not accept messages. Thanks for wasting my time.2. Bad customer service cannot be repaired by forcing busy customers to explain themselves over and over and over again.3. Good customer service happens at the time of the service. Or, if absolutely unavoidable, it happens immediately upon notification of an issue. Or it does not happen at all. Period. There are so many other options in this world, I am not wasting another second on this.

I was torn between three and four stars. My experience was overall pretty good. The only issues I had were first that the front driver side tire needed air (the tire sensor was going off from the time I got in my car for the first time), and also the trunk kept popping open. I think the button on the remote must have been super-sensitive. This happened 3 times during my 5 day rental. Everything else was fine though. The rental process was simple and easy. I think perhaps because I got my car so late and it was after hours the selection of cars in the aisle were pretty small. There were only two cars and the rest were trucks and minivans. However, aside from the aforementioned issues I was happy overall with the car I chose and with the rate.

Excellent rental experience. Had exact class (Large SUV) available upon arrival, very quick check out. Every Team member was friendly and helpful. Vehicle was clean and well maintained. The return was very quick and efficient. I am very happy to be an Emerald Club member, even though I only rent 2 or 3 times a year, National makes it very easy to rent their superb vehicles.

I generally thoroughly enjoy being an Emerald Club member, as it is easy and I get a car that fits my needs, a small SUV. However, this recent experience left a lot to be desired. There was a small selection, while the small SUV’s were parked on the full Executive Aisle. The VW Golf was the best choice, but we discovered trash on the floor of the back seat after we left the CMH airport. In today’s pandemic, the cleaning policy they guarantee was not followed. The only “fix” was to exchange the car and it was not within our time schedule. A better “fix” would have been a give back of the free rental days I used towards this rental. I’ll re-think my choice of vendors for my next rental car. I’ve been an Emerald Club member for years.

Probably, the nicest car rental experience in a year.The counter is conveniently located. There was no line. Tony, a local rep, was nice and found for me exactly that kind of car Id like to drive (Dodge Challenger). A price was reasonable (I ordered through HotWire although). By far the best rental company at CMH. No longer looks like a Chevy dealer lot. The employees are people-focused and the car selection and quality has always been great. Never been subject to a hard-sell of services I don’t want. The aisle selection is usually great, but they’re always willing to help if it’s not.

I have always had good experiences with National; but on this day I pulled up to the exit and realized I had made my reservation at the wrong airport. I called Customer Service while sitting at the exit and we were able to change my reservation and get me on my way.This was in a small College city on move out day and inventory was scare.All three people I spoke with were helpful and very pleasant and easy to talk to.

On Monday June 29, I returned a car at National Car Rental at the Columbus, Ohio airport but left a new sport coat hanging in the back seat. Despite daily calls to that office and detailed voicemails that I left, I have yet to hear back. Rented an almost brand new car in central Ohio. Worked great for me except there was no scraper in the car. One needs a scraper when in Ohio in the winter . Otherwise, a fine experience, as always with National.

Im on a 4 city tour for work and renting from National at all destinations.The first two locations did not have the vehicle that I reserved when I landed. That was okay, they said to just grab another vehicle in the Emerald Isle.I did that and found that both times they scanned the alternate vehicle tag and charged me a higher rate for my reservation. More than $50 for a one day rental.I called to have it corrected from the road, but when I returned the vehicle I was still being charged the higher rate.At this point I am still waiting to see if they get it corrected in Chicago and Columbus. Hopefully things go better in Philly and Charlotte as I wind up this trip.**I want to provide an update to this post. If you look at any of my reviews I rave about good service when it is provided. I also tell the facts when it isnt.Since this post the Chicago location provided a refund of the over charged amount without question.As you can see from the response from another National response, they want me to provide more detail and do more work to help them fix their mistake.To be clear, I called the Columbus, OH location directly after i discovered the over charge, explained the issue in detail. I was told then that they would correct it. I also explained it again when I returned the car and was told again that it would be taken care of. The response is now we would like investigate it further.They have the original reservation information and what they billed me. What more should I have to do for them to fix this?I am actually annoyed that I have to take this much time on a negative review. Had they provide great service I would have provided a great review.

I love that National lets you choose your car out of the category you chose. Its nice having choices. I really like the fact that when I get to the airport I can just grab a car and go (if you are signed up for their Emerald account, which is FREE!)

I went to pick my booked car rental as Emerald executive from the aisle and I received a rude shock. A staff walk up to me that the I car I’m about to pick is for Emerald executive member. I told him I am one. He said I will be charged extra! Well I will wait for the extra charges for abiding by my contract termsOn my way out, the check out lady shouldn’t be attending customer at all... She yelled at me for picking the car meant for emerald executives. I maintain my cool and showed her my EMEMERALD EXECUTIVE ID. She insisted I should return the car, and as I was pulling back to return the car and pick whatever they want me to pick, then she turned around and said “never mind, I will check you out but stop yelling”Me Yell? I simply just check out and leave her with her tantrums!The only reason why I still use this rental location is because of my employer! My employer make reservations on my behalf...

Brand new vehicle with less than 200 miles on it had some sort of battery issue. I had to jump start it multiple times. When I tried to tell the attendant at drop off, he simply said “You must have left a light on.” I hope they didn’t put the car back out in service again without checking that battery.

I rented from National when in Columbus for a wedding. We had family members flying in at different times and the wedding was 30 miles away from where we were all staying. Based on past experiences with the Columbus Airport National car rental, (over 2 years ago) I was dreading the experience.In the past the franchise did not have an Emerald Aisle and getting a car that would hold 7-8 people cost a bundle. Now they do have an Emerald Aisle and I was able to get a Toyota Minivan with seating for 8 for the price of an intermediate car. That was a great deal and came in handy when transporting people back and forth to the wedding and the airport!Great job National!

The past 2 times I rented from this agency at the Columbus airport, there were issues with the vehicles. My most recent trip, I left the airport and noticed the low tire pressure sensor on. Had to pull over at 9pm in below zero temps and snow to fill all 4 tires. Pressure ranged from 24-27 in the tires when the recommended setting was 33psi. Thanks for setting me up for a safe and convenient ride!

Im a seasoned traveler, National Executive Elite. This is a first. Two guys parking cars at the National aisle were in a pretty heated argument. It nearly came to a fist fight. What appeared to be a manager came out to deal with them. I could not get my car out because they were blocking the lane arguing so I had to blow the horn.

Staff is very unkind. I have been renting cars here monthly for the past 4 months and usually the process is easy and quick. Even though the staff is always in an irritable mood typically you can get in and out quick (if you are a Emerald Club member). However, on my last visit I was treated very poorly and was even refused a rental! My drivers license was expired but the state had issued a statement online extending the expiration of all licenses due to the current pandemic. The blonde woman who was helping me refused to see the logic in this and asked me to leave the car right there and exit the vehicle. I have never been treated so poorly at any other national. Needless to say I am no longer renting cars from this location and will be switching over to Hertz since they know how to treat their customers during this COVID pandemic.

I have rented here twice recently. First time I had luxury car reserved and probably waited 30 minutes for them to dig one out. Second time was counting on securing SUV of any size from Exec Aisle and had to wait for them to find one. Been pleased with vehicles once secured. Inventory just seems slim here compared to similar sized airports.

This was for my rental in Columbus Ohio.I was in a hurry that day, picked out a vehicle and proceeded to check out at the gate. The gate attendant scanned my vehicle and informed me the car was on a recall and could not leave the lot.I was shocked and upset as I needed to be on my way.How a vehicle on recall was allowed to be set out for rental......well it showed a lack of controls.Your attendant at the gate did everything right in helping secure a new vehicle, but this should never have happened. Then another delay. zThe first vehicle had GPS capability the second did not. No GPS units were available at the gate and the attendant walked all the way to the back to get me one. Again, she saved the day! I was late to my meeting and had one of the worst rental experiences in 20 years. This incident makes me wonder about controls in all things National if something like this is allowed to happen. Your attendant should be recognized for a great job in doing her best to make it right. Also although the gas showed full, it moved as soon as I went a couple of miles down the road. Sneaky......

Although the concept of the Executive Aisle is a great one, the consistent implementation of it is lacking. Choosing any car is awesome unless the choices arent so great, as had been the case with my last couple of rentals - one in Norfolk, VA and the other in Columbus, OH. Tampa and New Orleans are always excellent - maybe its the southern hospitality.

I rarely have issues with National and appreciate their service and assistance. The process is great for the emerald club rewards holders. The only reason I couldnt give them 5 stars is because the car we choose was not as clean as we thought when we picked it up. The carpets in the backseat were wet and had like an alcohol/beer/musty/damp smell to them that wasnt recognized at first but once we got our bags home and realized they were wet from the carpets that when we noticed everything. Im not sure if it was the cleaner or the a wet spot that they missed while cleaning the vehicle. Other than that, the check out, check in process was a breeze, the staff we encountered were pleasant and we would definitely rent a vehicle from them again.
