The little girl who picked up my call today on 9/27/21 verbally provided me misinformation and prices that were double what I found online at this hertz location. She also did not mention that I get my triple A discount; I had to pull it out of her. Oh and then she said “so not to waste your time or mine are going to rent this car I’m telling you about?” Once I said no she hung up on me. She should seek a job that has nothing to do with customer service.

I was in Chicago during Lapoloosa. When special events are going on, you can expect jacked up prices. I thought their pricing was decent. Didnt seen too out of whack. I also liked their hours. Early morning and late p.m. I also had a dispute re: insurance. It appears that they double billed me. After speaking with customer service, they removed it. Mistakes happen, but what counts in my book is how you handle it. Hertz has a new customer.

Been a loyal customer for years until today’s visit. Got to the location 30 minutes early to be told that they have no car for me. The lady in the small cubicle told me she tried to call me at 6:30 in the morning then went on to say my number was not valid. Why the lie? I’ve been a loyal member for years and received calls with the number on my profile. This location has been struggling with shortage of cars. Past three reservations, I had to wait an additional hour past my pick up time and received a car that I did not request. Go to a different Hertz or jump ship to a different rental company.

I made a reservation three months prior and received a call the morning of that they did not have a vehicle for me. I could not believe how unprofessional this was. No real apology, just a Sorry, there arent any cars for you. A group of us had a wedding to attend and were now screwed out of a car that we could not find anywhere due to the shortage of vehicles. Whats the point of making a reservations with Hertz if they just give up your vehicle? Such a terrible experience.

DO NOT RENT FROM HERTZ!!!I reserved a car a few days ago with Hertz, and got a call from them this morning (1 hour before scheduled pick-up time) saying that they didnt have any cars. So, they overbooked, and there are no other Hertz cars in Chicago available for a week. Heres an excerpt from the message I received from Hertz this morning (again, 1 hour before pick-up time):I deeply apologize, sir, but we are experiencing a massive shortage...and it looks like all the Hertz locations are suffering from this shortageHertz is suffering from this massive shortage of cars because of massive overbooking to maximize profit, with no concern for ruining customers plans.I called the Hertz toll-free number, and the agent offered nothing for compensation for this colossal inconvenience.***DO NOT RENT FROM HERTZ***

Returned vehicle on schedule. They claimed vehicle was not returned and it took over 3 weeks to resolve the issue. They were looking for the wrong car. We also received a letter threatening grand theft auto charges if not returned. Even after being told the car was found the first time we continued to receive calls demanding return of vehicle. A terrible experience with the branch and corporate officials.

This location is always willing to work with you on having the right auto for when you need it. As renting from Downtown Chicago can be a hassle and cars are limited it is always a great place to go to and turn. Ed DeRosa is always willing to work with his clients and his team at State Street are always Top Notch on their Customer Service. I would not go anywhere else. Thank You

Horrible experience. They do not honor the reservations and provided preferences to people who had reservations later than our scheduled time. Worst customer service and no communication to the customer. Waited for more than 3 hours in order to get the vehicle even when we had a confirmed reservation. Wish I could give them 0 stars.

Absolutely horrible experience and unfriendly staff. Had booked with them and I was not given the car on time. Even after repeated follow ups they keep on extending the ETA and have no regard for your urgency. They also discriminate against you and I have seen them give preference to customers even though my booking was scheduled before them. Avoid this location while in downtown.

Sara (manager) was extremely rude. Not renting from this Hertz again, contacting Hertz corporate to report this issue and fix it. Great start to holiday weekend Hertz, thanks - not...Details:While my wife and I waited in line to double check we would not be charged for an extra day/time for returning our vehicle 15 minutes over the rental 24 hr period - we heard Sara telling the customer before us there is a grace period they were a little late returning a vehicle, it would be no big deal. So we thought no problem when we double check our return - wrong....Sara slapped us with a extra charge even though we pulled into the garage earlier to return it and waited in line which burned up for time while she chatted with a customer about lenient grace periods with Hertz. Ridiculous.

Customer service was horrible from the attendant on 6/7/21 around 4:45 pm. She did not have a name tag on and I was so bothered by her attitude and consumer service that I didnt even bother to ask. She seemed so bothered to answer basic questions and just her whole demeanor was just straight out unprofessional.

Close earlier than what is in their reservation system so showed up with a valid reservation for a 5:30 pm pick up and they closed at 5:00 pm. Two other customers showed up to pick up or drop off cars in the short time I was there. Did the staff not see that they had reservations for their location that were scheduled for after they closed? Why have they not updated their hours with Hertz reservations? How many customers must this have impacted and they dont seem to care?

This is the worst car rental. Do not go here. The lady at the front desk has the worst attitude I have ever seen. She needs to be fired. Learn how to talk to people with some respect. I booked a rental with my debit card. They took money from me, then I get there and they tell me I need a credit card. So I did not even end up getting the car. If you’re under 25 don’t even waste your time here.

I rented a car from Hertz because I was critically needed to get down south from Chicago to see a relative. I was having some issues with my card and the team went ABOVE and BEYOND to make sure I was able to get a car. They were very patient and helpful and kind and I appreciate all the help they provided me. I will continue to use this location (state st Chicago location) for all my rental car needs in the future!

This location does not accept Apple Card, even though Hertz accepts this card nationally. It is difficult to understand why a specific location would have a different payment policy than the company at a national level, and the stuff aren’t friendly about explaining it either. Furthermore, they don’t give any heads up about the cards that they accept, which can make the process complicated. Save yourself the inconvenience and pick up from the West Loop location instead.

My insurance reserved a rental from here and giving me the confirmation, I arrived in an Uber ready to pick up, I walk in and the woman instantly and firmly said “I don’t have a pick up for you”, the woman didn’t even ask my name. Rude as rude can be. She repeated that I don’t have any vehicles available and I finally got a chance to tell her that my insurance company booked it and the reservation was there and she goes to say “ I didn’t get a chance to call you, it was only 30mins ago” there was not one customer in there, only her and another employee talking. She was no help at all. Just rude and had zero respect. I stood there and called the insurance company back while I waited for my Uber and had them to cancel my reservation from that location. It didn’t get her name but I assume she was of some management. Long ponytail, black hair and Hispanic maybe. But totally rude, there needs to be some training on customer service but I will never visit this location again or company for that matter.

The team at the 401 North State Street ( Chicago ) location is awesome! They are very helpful and take care of us in a fast and friendly manner, and they make us feel welcome. We rented a 2019 GMC Terrain for a week, and the car was clean, and in top condition. This location is always clean and bright and makes the experience of renting a car a breeze.

Terrible customer service. If I could give 0 stars I would. I am a presidents circle member at Hertz and I got the worst service from the Manager Andy. The actual car I got was filthy. Dont even think these guys clean the cars that well. When asked to change, I was told very rudely by Andy to go rent it at the airport instead. Are you kidding me? No accommodations for premium members, I dont even know how the non members are treated.Avoid this location at all costs! Worst experience at Hertz. I am however a loyal Hertz member because their amazing customer service and rewards program. Wont let this location ruin my relationship with Hertz. Hopefully they change the management at this location. I work for a prominent IT firm and rest assured Ill be telling all my peers about this terrible experience.

Horrible. I made a reservation for a rental days in advance -- but when I arrived on the day of to pick it up, the lady at the front desk said oh :-) I was just about to call you. I have no cars in my entire lot. Absolutely unacceptable service. She also told me she cant give me a refund and that Id have to call customer service. Waiting on sidewalk for an hour - what kind of gold status service is this? Especially for someone handicapped. Update - no cars and number 13 on list. Likely no cars for at least 24 hours. Hertz is garbage. Second update - went to return car and office was closed during normal hours, weekday 3pm. Had to find some other Hertz location a mile away. Absolutely no assistance getting back to original location, had to take a taxi at my expense.

I would not recommend this Hertz location. It is conveniently located in River North, but their internal processes are simply a joke. I have rented from this location approximately ~20 times over the past year and have had a similar issue twice. After dropping off my car, I was informed I would be receiving an electronic copy of my invoice via email (this is standard for Hertz Gold / President’s Circle members). Fast forward 4 weeks and I received a call from corporate asking when I’d be returning my rental. The location claimed I had never dropped the car off. I then went back to my schedule and told the location the approximate time I had dropped the rental off. After days had gone by and hours of speaking with Hertz corporate, there was no resolution and my CC was being charged thousands of dollars. The location owner(who turned out to me the manager since the location is corporate owned) suggested filing a police report as the “security cameras” couldn’t rewind back far enough. Fast forward another few days and it turns out they had gone ahead and rented the car to another customer without closing my rental. I was offered enough points for a five day rental.If you do choose to rent from this location, make sure you ask for a hard copy receipt. To obtain a hard copy, Hertz must close out your rental record while you are at the location. This means my nightmare scenario won’t happen to you!

I was sent her from my insurance. When I spoke to both my insurance and the lady at hertz. They both told me I was approved for a SUV and that it was ready for me to pick up. When I get there the gentleman at the desk said that my Toyota Corola was ready. According to him thats all my insurance covered. I had to call my insurance to get this fixed. My insurance had to send me to a different location claiming that it was probably just this location not wanting to give me what Im eligible for. I had to take the compact car at this point. I returned the following morning to address this and get it changed to the correct vehicle. The Manager present was so unpleasant and did not want to help out. He had me call my insurance so he can talk to them, he refused to call from his desk. Then proceeded to tell me that it was the only vehicle they have in their lot and I only qualify for that vehicle due to my lime being $25t/a day. The worst thing was when I went to close out with less than 24hr that I had a vehicle with a messed up steering that is not safe for anyone to drive. He told me that I owed money! Seriously?? Lol.... think about it, you put me in a car that way below my limit, you gave me a car that was unsafe to drive, I had the vehicle literally for like 18-20hrs and I still owe money on it!? Hahahaha.... this is definitely a location that I will not return nor recommend to anyone! I could clearly tell that the manager here did not want to deal with anyone who had an insurance claim. They rather charge you an arm and a leg for a regular rental at an exaggerated price! So sad to see this during these times.

Just the worst. I live near this Hertz location and probably rented about once per month for weekend trips. On more than one occasion weve had to wait over 2.5+ hours for our vehicle (despite arriving on time)...due to slow customer service (and rude!) and long wait times, or simply not having any cars available. I have been renting with Alamo a few blocks away for the past year or so and its like night and day. Would not recommend this location to anyone.

My husband picked up the car it wasnt cleaned, wiped down, vacuumed or sanitized. The van was given to us as the same way the previous renter turned it in. I had to clean and sanitize it myself and arrived late to our destination because of this.

I have been renting from Hertz for years, normally from the Lincoln Park location, but recently moved and tried State Street. The pickup process was fairly standard, but dropping the car off was a nightmare. I had the car during the recent civil unrest in Chicago and was unsure whether the location would be open when I was supposed to return, so tried calling at least 10 times during business hours, with no answer. I eventually got through to the national office who assured me that this branch would be open at the time of my return. They were not. Unsure of what to do, I parked the car in the garage with the ticket and keys inside, and called the next day to let them know where the vehicle was. Of course they did not answer that or any of my 20 subsequent calls over the following week, all while continuing to place a daily pending charge on my credit card. I called the national office 3 times to close out the rental, and they were only able to get ahold of this location to close it out after the third attempt.

My mom was the one who rented the car out and she had no complaints, everything went smoothly.. Except I left my wic coupons( for my toddler) in the car. Both myself and her attempted to get them back, but the person who rented it out extended it an extra day or so.When I finally called after the 4th time, I spoke to Arianna and she told me it was no note about them, but she reassured me that she will get them for me. Glad to say on Friday the 25th, she called me and had them ready for me. Thank goodness because two of the coupons expired on that day by 6pm. Thank you Arianna 🙌🏾🙂👍🏾

So far so good! This is my first time using a rental car, or needing one. I was very nervous and didnt know what I was doing or what to even expect. To my surprise though, the entire process was very quick and painless.I did a lot of looking around online and price comparison before I settled with Hertz, so I believe it goes without saying that Hertz offered me the best deal and thats why I went with them! I reserved my rental online so I would have less of a hassle. Right now Im on my second week of renting a vehicle from them. My biggest problem so far was the fact that they wouldnt let me extend my rental over the phone or online, one of the reps had said it was because the rental car I was using had officially been sold. But when i got there the lady said it hadnt been sold, I fact I could RERENT THE SAME ONE I HAD! I WAS PRETTY UPSET ABOUT THAT.The lady at the desk helping me out could see my fustrastration and upgraded my vehicle at no charge!

Today me and my husband dealt with racism from this location and establishment. My rental was paid for. All my form of payment were good and they continued to tell me my card declined my bank and credit card company said they were lying. I sat back and watched every black person who came in to get a rental the associates told them their card declined. Every causian card for some strange reason went thru. A terrible experience. It seems people working there are forbidden to smile and help the customers. My reservation for a three days rental was booked 3 weeks in advance. At my arrival I was advise my car was not ready and the tank was half full. I would just have to bring it back the same. How? Easily by leaving the key on the ignition while filling it up and looking at the dashboard to make sure it would be good. After waiting 23 minutes and delaying my departure the car was brought with a full tank. Upon return I was not greeted by the staff in the garage who did not check the car and just yell to me if I wanted a receipt I would have to walk inside. Inside I was again not greeted and I was made uncomfortable by the help desk person in order to get my receipt. I am a road warrior who rent between 20 and 25 vehicle a year. Usually I do not rent from Hertz. Hertz portrays itself as having high quality service, it was not at all what I got at this location. Alamo, Budget, Avis, enterprise and National have never given me so poor service.

I had a car reserved for a 9:30am, however, when I arrived to pick it up, I was told that they didnt have any cars at their facility and wouldnt until they received more from other locations. The manager kept telling everyone who was waiting: Theyll be here any minute, which turned out to be just over an hour. The entire staff was also very unprofessional in regard to conduct and appearance.When I finally received the car, the process was fast and easy. Additionally, the person who helped me was nice enough to comp the gas and apologetic about the whole situation.

I have just recently started using HERTZ for my car rental needs and Andrea Browning has been the reason I leave Enterprise and do business with Hertz. She was amazing and has great customer service. She even helped me with my second rental to learn how to work the automatic start. She is very friendly and welcoming also. If I experienced any problems in the process of booking my rental she helped me quickly and got me on the road quickly.

If l could give this place a zero star l would. I went to the location in the morning to pick up the car and the young African American girl at the counter was plain rude. I came in and handed her my credit card and drivers license and she told me it was a debit card. Which is weird because it’s a credit card and l have never had a problem with it. She went on to say well l need two forms of government issued ID and l told her l have my license like l don’t travel with 2 government issued IDs and l told her that never have l ever been asked for two IDs and this is not my first time renting a car. I asked to speak to her manager and she said she was the manager which is super not true cause she didn’t act like one. She was rude and answering me back and yelling super unprofessional. There was another guy sitting behind the glass booth and he came over to come help. And the rude unprofessional girl said she was not renting me a vehicle. For crying out loud l have worked in a hotel for 4 years and l am a manager and when a customer is annoyed l never answer back like this girl at this location. My cousin saw all this unravel and she was visiting from South Africa and she said “l have experienced nice people my whole stay in the US this girl was just plain rude and unprofessional”, and my cousin also happens to work in customer service. Safe to say l would never rent from this location or hertz for that matter. You need to reprimand this girl she is rude and doesn’t know how to talk to customers. This happened the morning of 04/23/2019 at 7:30am. Also the location is dirty and crummy not a great look.

I was stranded in Florida due to hurricane Dorian and couldnt picked up my car on time, I called from the airport probably 10 times and now one answered. When I arrived at the Hertz office they told me they didnt have any cars. The lady in the counter was very uneducated and rude and showed no sympathy at all at the situation.Very disappointing experience. Hertz needs to find a better phone system and also invest in better quality employees.

Really great customer service. Drop off was fast. Just leave the keys in the car, and walk back to the office around the corner. They ask for your contract and ask if the charges are correct and thats it! This location closes at 4pm on Saturday. I picked up at Ohare and they let me return the car to this location for a small fee.

I have had issues at this rental facility in the past (charged for upgrades, extra gas, etc. without consenting to the services) but my most recent trip was flawless. I received prompt service, a nice, shiny new car, and no real issues. I only wish there was a way to return the car to the facility outside of business hours - I pulled in to go into the garage, but the gate was down - unfortunately, a car pulled in right behind me, so I had to go up into the parking garage and right back down, a $12 mistake. Overall, I was very satisfied and will rent again.

I travel for work and have rented cars from this Hertz for years. I keep returning because of excellent customer service from Andi and others. Unfortunately, my experience yesterday was a bad surprise.My reservation was for a midsize sedan with toll-pass. Initial pickup was fine. In the garage a saw the car had a visibly low tire and low pressure light on the dash. I went back inside for a replacement car with toll-pass. Arianna the office manager, said this was impossible unless I paid for an upgrade. Not very fair. She gave me new keys, but in the garage I saw that car #2 didnt have a toll-pass. Back to the office. Arianna set me up with car #3. Again, I discovered no toll-pass when I got to the garage.After 40 minutes of this, I had to leave or miss my appointment. Stopping to pay cash at 5 toll plazas did not help.Only reason this review is two stars is because Arianna DID refund the $15 extra charge for the Kia SUV I ended up driving, not the cheaper midsize I had reserved. For that I am grateful.

This is the better hertz location in downtown Chicago. As long as youve put in your reservation a few days ahead of time, theyll have a car for you. They also let you drop off after hours at the other Hertz location on Washington, not too far away. Ive rented from here over a dozen times and have never had an issue.

I picked this location because it was close to my office and couod easily walk there. It is kind of hidden, but are part of a parking garage structure. Very friendly staff. Willing to work with you to meet your needs. Great experience.

Dont rent from here, really.I live nearby and dont own a car, so frequently rent from this location when I need a car, probably 20 times a year. Theyre open late on Sundays, which is hard to find.However, Ive been screwed by this place so many times that Ill pay twice as much and travel twice as far to pick up a car just to avoid giving this location my business. Maybe even to avoid giving Hertz my business entirely. I get a great deal on lesiure travel with a work discount because of the volume of business my company does worldwide, but that doesnt even matter at this point.Three times in the last month they have been unable to honor a reservation, not having cars available even if you show up early. Show up 15 minutes late and its now YOUR fault they dont have a car for you and will make you wait an hour. Ive had cars with empty gas tanks, with headlights that are burnt out, and with windshield wiper fluid that isnt rated for freezing weather (so fun on the interstate in December, let me tell you).Ive missed a family Christmas and my own engagement party because of this location, it is completely unreliable and a waste of my time and money to try to rent from here.I cant accurately describe how upset I am, whats the point of making a reservation if you have no intention of honoring it?

The ladies in the office are so great, I couldnt ask for better customer service. However, I was never told at booking that I would receive a $30/day fee due to being under 25, even though they had my DOB/license info for booking. The fee was more than my daily charge for the car!! THEN I was charged $75 additional for standard fees on top of my tax and age premium. What in the world?! Enterprise all the way - I have never on earth had issues there like I have with Hertz!

The service at the State Street agency in Chicago was fabulous. Everything was ready for my rental and my check-in was quick. Someone actually dropped me off at my condo because I had groceries in the car and the same person, Arianna, came back to drop off my disability placard which I had forgotten. Outstanding service!!!
