Frequent delays in car pickup especially on weekends. There is no way to check prior to visit if there will be any delays.The staff is super kind and helpful to the highest extent possible.No Avis Preferred or car selection. MDW and ORD have a much better car selection if you want options. No free upgrades.

This may be location specific, but the wait in line to rent was long and the car they provided at the counter was already rented and gone. I received a similar replacement car which worked fine. The garage used at this facility is a nightmare to get in and out of. When I returned the car the same situation occurred and I had to wait in line for another 25 minutes to return the car because nobody updated the system for the vehicle switch. Several people in line to rent did not have the proper means to provide security deposits for the rentals and took up extended time in line. Rather than ask these customers to step aside and help others, the clerks just worked on their problems while the queue continued to form and customers waited endlessly for simple transactions. End-to-end the rental process was a very big hassle at this location. Other rental companies are much better on technical issues with express check-ins and returns.

I have rented from this location for last 2 years and I always got exceptional service. Everyone from the location from the manger to the staff are amazing people. They truly care for you and provide the best car based on availability. There were situations when they couldnt do what I wanted due to limited availability but they always went above and beyond when they could. I had a tremendous experience during my last one way rental to Dallas. I told my requirements and it was a stormy weather at Dallas, I was given the best possible vehicle and had a wonderful trip! They always offered me the best service be it a long term or a short term rental.

Not customer friendly with pricing. $23 for 7/8 gal of gas, short of full. 3/4 0f daily rate for l hour past check in time. $ 106. No grace period like most car rental . And u are not told any of this uUntil after the fact. I was going to renew rental for a week..but decided never rent from Avisl again.Customers dont matter. They just want to RIP them off as much as possible.DONT RENT FROM AVIS...THEY WILL SCREE U FOR SURE

Avis.com double-booked my reservation, so I called the Avis customer service 800 number. They told me that in order to confirm my changes I would have to call this office to be sure a car of the correct size would be available. But you cant actually contact anyone at this location. Every option on their switchboard redirects you back to the customer service 800 number. I wound up having to go in circles with people at the 800 number for an hour and got nowhere because we couldnt reach anyone at the local office. I wound up canceling the reservation and it took another half hour on the phone to get them to refund my money. I will never rent from Avis or Budget again if I can help it.

RENT ELSEWHERE, THERE ARE PLENTY OF BETTER OPTIONS! For starters, a car should be clean when handing it over to a customer. This car was dirty inside as well as partially on the outside. However, thats not the main issue here. I thought my car was checked in upon return as I waited for the gentleman to give me the ok. This is why I never leave the vehicle unattended when returning it, but I guess there’s no guarantee that it gets checked in even after it’s handed over to a live person. Several days after returning it, I noticed that in addition to an existing pending charge (the original security deposit), there was a new one posted for about the same amount I paid originally for the vehicle. I immediately called customer service and they told me that the car should have been checked in the same day, but FOR SOME REASON it wasn’t even though the car was returned on time. They assured me that they will forward this case to the appropriate department dealing with delays and all pending charges will be dropped. I waited several more days and checked my credit card again. To my shock, on top of the still pending $365, there was another pending charge for $465 and yet a third one for $60!!!!! This time I called customer service again and they told me that my vehicle was just checked in....really? 10 days after I had returned it to a live representative it finally got checked in??!!! I can only imagine how long it would’ve taken had I not called them twice, and what type of fees they would’ve charged me while I wasn’t even in possession of the vehicle. If all of these pending charges are not removed, I will be escalating this issue further.Update: several days later after multiple complaints, most of the pending charges have been removed, but one ends up posting on my account even though I was told that there will be no extra charges. I called customer service again and they told me that since the SYSTEM thinks the car was returned late, this late fee was automatically charged to my card. Supposedly they sent me a letter explaining this in the mail which of course I havent gotten yet. Since they know that the car was returned on time, they initiated a credit while I was on the call with them, but they allegedly cant produce anything in writing as proof of this credit since apparently their system takes days to generate an email. I asked to speak to a supervisor, and after resisting multiple times, he finally put me on hold only to tell me that theres no supervisor available. I am awaiting a call back from a supervisor, but I went ahead and disputed the charge with my credit card as I no longer trust them. I cant remember the last time Ive dealt with a BS company like this. DO NOT RENT FROM THEM!!!

Overall, a shady and scammy branch. Decent staff if you have a reservation. My experiences weeks after my dropoff were terrible. I received a letter a little over a month after my dropoff stating that they are going to charge me a cleaning fee of $450.00 , stating that I smoked in one of their vehicles. A few days after I received the physical letter ,my credit card was indeed charged. I dont smoke and had the car for only a day. So I was very upset. I was able to reverse the charges by calling the corporate number but thats after I did research. Do not go to this branch. Use Avis elsewhere.

When I rented the car, I told the agent I wanted to fill up the tank myself before I returned the car. I returned it with a full tank, but they charged me $20. Turns out, the original cashier marked that I wanted to pay them, not fill it up myself. That is the complete opposite of what I said.Basically I overpaid by $20, even though I was clear about my preference and the cashier knew it. Not cool.

This review is SPECIFICALLY for the Station Manager Yvette Maldonado.I booked a reservation for a 3:30pm pick-up for a date when the hours were listed online as open through 4:30pm. Arriving at 3:32pm, I found the doors to the rental office locked with several employees loitering inside and a crude sign denoting temporary hours with the office now closing at 3pm. Calling their number led to an insufferable amount of automated responses that seemed to lead nowhere but dead ends. After standing outside the office for 10 minutes, Yvette finally opened the door. Her manner could not have been any more rude or unprofessional. She took zero responsibility for the fact that the hours were posted incorrectly online, was completely unwilling to offer any assistance in figuring out how to resolve the issue, and seemed to take pleasure in telling me that they could not rent me a car as the gate to the lot closed exactly at 3:30pm and she had no power to open it even if she wanted to. Aside from telling a blatant lie regarding the hours posted online, how stupid do you have to be to allow reservations at the exact time your gate closes and locks all your cars up until the next morning? Had I showed up at 3:30 on the dot, in the time it took to swipe a credit card the gate would have closed and I would have been stuck. With Yvette offering no way of remedying the situation, I asked at least for the contact information of her regional manager or superior which she refused to give.Sidenote: Conveniently as soon as I arrived back home, I saw the hours had been updated to reflect their actual closing time. Guilty conscience, Yvette?Yvette Maldonado is an idiot, a liar, and while thankfully I did not pay in advance, if I had she would no doubt be a thief as well. She is completely unfit to be employed at her position, let alone employed at all. The fact that Avis has employed and put her in a position of management is a terrible reflection on Avis as a company. Take your business to National, to Enterprise, to Hertz. Anywhere else but here.

Exactly a year ago, I came into this AVIS because my rental car was towed by the city due to the Snow Parking sign that goes into effect on 12/1. I came in upset and Jude was there and to help me figure out getting the car back and was so kind about the whole ordeal. Flash forward to a year later and I found myself walking back in to rent another and there Jude was to greet me! She remembered the occurrence from a year ago and was so quick and helpful in getting another car sorted. Jude is definitely the reason why we choose to rent from here over the other rental companies in Chicago!

UPDATE: Issue was eventually resolved via customer service. Thanks for your assistance.Picking up the car was easy and painless, even though they didn’t have the class of car that I reserved available. The counter agent threw in a free tank of gas for the inconvenience. “Bring it back empty”, she said. The problem arose on the return. I was charged for 17.5 gallons @ $9.99. An extra $180 fee is a little much. Customer service just routes me to the pickup location, but no one answers the phone there and I get connected back to customer service who is no help. I won’t be renting from this, or any other Avis again.

I had a rude and lousy treatment. Don’t be 15 minutes early or it will cost you extra. Apparently Avis finds it ok that your rental time is including their administration time. I will never use AVIS again. Their latest scam is that you have to bring the gas bill before drop off.

Im usually happy with this company at this location and use it frequently for the business I work for as this is local for us. However today I was met with rude customers service! I was picking up my reservation at 3:37 in which Ill admit I was a little late due to an unfortunate delay, when a female employee saw me at the door and informed with an aspirated manner that they closed 10 minutes ago. I was unaware that this location closed early, despite what the website states, due to current event climate. She didnt bother to explain this, even though I must have look confused about this change. But I went on to asked her if they would honor my reservation the next day when she promptly told me that no because they were all sold out. I know this was not true because I was able to reserve another rental. Then as I was about to ask another question when she turned off the lights and went to the back. Very very rude! I am hoping that we can find a resolve for this matter because I am usually happy with this service.

My wife rented a car earlier this month from this location. She picked it up in the morning and returned in later that afternoon. Less than 24 hours of rental time. Upon checking our card statements this week, we discovered that there was an additional $500 charge for “going over 1,000 miles in the car”... in about 3 hours of drive time. This charge had no invoice and was not represented in any email sent to us. When we called, it took way too much time to figure out what went wrong only for them to say “because we value your continued loyalty, we will refund the $500 charge”. Completely unacceptable.Edit: it was not this location - the car was rented from the airport location.

A good car at a fair price! The counter staff tends to assign you a car Vs. let you choose from a selection. I ended up with a almost new SUV even though I reserved a standard car. Although in the car rental business, people consider this as a free upgrade, I personally would have preferred a car. None was available. Their garage is space constrained so it would make more sense for them to offer more smaller cars than SUVs. Just be aware, as of June 2020, they have reduced hours. They close at 3PM every day without after hours drop off.

I had a SUV and it was so basic - no GPS system installed and you couldnt even schedule a pickup. Also the car had peeling on one door and didnt seem like a car fit for its class. This Chicago location was drab. You can almost miss the location if youre getting off the train. I will say the car was good on gas.

I had made a reservation with both Avis & Alamo, as a long time Alamo customer. They had a million hoops to jump through at pickup so I politely excused myself and walked right across the hall to the Avis counter. The staff was wonderful and friendly. The process was extremely quick & seamless. They let me switch the model of the car with something I was more comfortable driving without issue. I will definitely be renting from Alamo in the future. Everyone I encountered was super enjoyable to work with & you dont normally say that about a rental experience. Good Job Avis! I will be back.

Staff was extremely helpful, attentive and friendly. Im used to driving a subcompact and rented a Dodge Ram truck. Assisted me in handling the car. A couple of years ago I arrived on a late (midnight) flight at the airfield in Sault Ste Marie, Ontario. It was extremely dark (It was the North woods) and I couldnt figure out how to adjust the seat. The attendant came out into the cold and assisted me in figuring out the seat adjustment in the vehicle. Have never had a bad experience with Avis.

They didn’t even provide me with a clean car. The car had not been washed, I wonder if they even sanitized the car. Lady working in the garage had a bad attitude. A month into a three month rental I received an email stating that Avis would no longer be able to honor my rental. So after going back downtown spending an hour of my time that I will not get back, I was told the email was just a mistake. I ended up returning the car two months early. Very dissatisfied with this experience!!!!!!

The two women were unhelpful. They made small talk but neglected to tell me that they would be running my credit. I didn’t give my consent for that. And then as they are putting me through hoops to get this rental, they service a gentleman behind me IMMEDIATELY without asking for ANY of his credentials... they just serviced him. He was in and out.After turning me away, after they’ve already ran my credit without my consent. They did not offer my any other solutions.The worst.

Reporting a misconduct by the location Manager Rolando Trisilo at 214 North Clark Street (at Wacker), North Loop Downtown, Chicago, IL 60601 location on June 9.As a preferred customer, I always use Avis for my travel. I picked the car at MKE downtown area and was to return the car at N Clark St, Chicago.As we arrived at the Clark st location, we noticed that there is only ONE way for all exit and entry so we slowing pulled in, two cars were already facing the exit. We stopped to understand what was going on and we pulled down the windows to get some direction. A security guard (not AVIS representative) started giving directions, he was brash and started shouting directions. The space was really tight so we had to slowly maneuver the car but the security guard had no patience for that. His voice raised, body language raged as he roared COMMANDS. We felt belittled and asked Alex (security guard) to pipe down to which he flew his hands in the air but did not stop. After parking the car, an Avis representative (Stephanie) strolled to our car and we asked for the name of the guard to which she said she doesnt know and the moment we turned our backs she started chatting with the same person (we got his name later at the desk). We wanted to raise this unacceptable behavior with the Manager but didnt know that his demeanor was even worse - completely unprofessional and disgusting.When we asked for the manager, Rolando, didnt even ask what was wrong, how can he help etc.? Customer service 101 but he started on the defensive horrifically. His tone was rude, unpleasant and intense. He started schooling on how we were not driving in the right way, WITHOUT CHECKING FACTS. We were like really, since there is only one way in & out.I will not lie, my husband and I loosed my cool at this point. It got ugly with him. To give Rolando, a quick fact check, my husband walked him to the parking lot in the basement so he could walk Rolando through the sequence of events. Rolando was dumbfound but it was too late. We had to reserve a car for next day but left fuming.I have videos and pictures to prove how distasteful and downright disgusting Rolandos behavior - never have I come across someone so incompetent and ignorant in my past short 10 years of professional life. We were on a trip with friends to Chicago and this episode definitely ruined the first day. I chose not to pick the car at Clarks but at Midway airport next day instead because I didnt want another face-off with that foul man. Imagine the inconvenience it caused us.I would like to see that Ronaldo is coached on customer service/ a strict disciplinary action taken against him. He is definitely not fit for a customer facing role.

Hidden charges +250!!! The rental rate was 54, but they added 250 for keys. Very misleading. When I discovered the charge and tried to dispute it, they said only headquarters could fix it. Customer service says only the local office can. Back of the line! What a run around! Been waiting over an hour to dispute this charge.

We enjoyed our vehicle and had no issues at pick up. We used the vehicle for a few days and it was great.Drop off was it total disaster!! They told us verbally we can drop off the car by 8 o’clock Sunday night, and we got there at 7:45, even though there were 12 employees in the building, they refused to take the car back causing us to have to pay a $60 parking fee to park the car overnight at our hotel. Never got an explanation for why that happened!They also told us to bring the car to O’Hare the next day. So we did and now they charged us additional $25 for that. Called and got the run around for a long time, got disconnected several times (or possibly hung up on) and finally reached management staff who did agree to waive the airport fee eventually. Hopefully they improve their continuity and service. Probably need to fire those lazy people who wouldn’t take the car, must be a union thing. Next time I will videotape or record the conversation I have about pick up times.

Theres something to be said for convenience and in the city you learn to live with compromises. You get great service at the desk (especially in the morning of weekdays where the two ladies who have been working together for decades greet and take care of you) and a good selection of cars.Things get tricky below deck. Theres only so much space. Our last rental involved being assigned a car that was against the back wall and required two other cars be moved first before we could get out. This was done somewhat begrudgingly by one of the porters.We had the time but if youre in a hurry be warned. Also not for the faint of heart in terms of driving acrobatics. Or anyone who suffers claustrophobia.Would we do it again? Yes! As bad as that sounds theyre a great company and take great care of their cars. Theyre clean and as promised.

We drove into Chicago the day of the marathon. We live in Australia so we were not even aware the marathon was on. Anyway, by the time we finally navigated the closed roads etc. we were so happy to finally be able to drop off our car. We were so very pleasantly surprised at how nice and helpful the people at Avis were. They actually offered to have us leave our bags in the car and drive us to our hotel. We were exhausted and so very grateful. I am so disappointed in myself that I forgot to get the mans name who drove us to the hotel, but we are so appreciative. Thanks Avis Chicago (Clark Street) for amazing customer care and service.

Despite the previous reviews, I went with Avis because it was $100- $200 cheaper than the other companies I checked. SO SMOOTH! The reservations were easy to place, the employee explained the insurance options very patiently and answered all my questions, the car had cruise control (as we requested), is in GREAT condition. This is the best rental experience weve ever had- and we rent five times a year. I will definitely use AVIS at this location again. Merry Christmas!

Best run Avis desk. The associates check you in and get you out fast and efficiently. We rent here because the fees at Midway Airport are so expensive. We take the Orange Line at from the airport to the Clark and Lake stop and walk one block to the Avis location. If we arrive at night, we order a Lyft. So easy.

Was charged a 250 dollar smoke cleaning fee when no one who has ever been in the car has ever smoked in their life. Customer service has just given me the runaround and in person the desk got jittery and told me they didn’t help with that and to call customer service.Choose one of the other rental companies in the loop unless you want to risk an additional 250 dollar charge for which you have no recourse.

I rent from this location fairly regularly as I live nearby. I must stay the desk staff are all extremely friendly and the reason I keep coming back. In addition, the cars I receive are always typically newer with less than 10k miles. The reason I give this location a 3 is that they seem to overbook regularly. It is not unusual to have to wait 2+ hours for a car, even with a reservation. Per the agent, the fleet size has been reduced and the manager likes to overbook. If your plans arent flexible, I would book at OHare.

The service staff at the desk are great, but the garage turnaround on returned cars is ALWAYS a bottleneck. I continue to get cars I dont like because its the very next one available after waiting a bit.After a year of this, every single Saturday, and approximately 2 upgrades to nicer cars in that time, Im going to try a different company. Well see how it goes. My sense is that anything less than an airport location may not have the selection I want, but I refuse to pay the 50% airport tax they all tack on.

PSA: LONG POST BUT USE ANY OTHER LOOP LOCATION!! I rented a car there this past weekend and returned it on time with the gas tank full. I picked up my dog from the dog sitter and dropped him off at home on the way to drop off the car (he was in the car 15 min max). When I returned the car (the car return area is terrible - difficult to drive down a tiny windy basement entrance), they inspected the car for ~5 minutes with me there and asked me if I wanted a receipt, in which I responded to please email it to me. A few days later I checked my credit card statement, and noticed they charged me 30% more than the quoted rate when I picked up the car. Apparently it was due to a $50 excessive cleaning charge related to my dog, but it was never mentioned in the ~5 minutes I stood there while they inspected the car. Additionally, the limited amount of dog hair has never been an issue at any other car rental place Ive used over the years, even when my dog has gone on the road trip. On top of this, they never sent me a receipt, so had I not looked at my statement, I never wouldve noticed the extra $60 ($50 + 21% Chicago tax) charge. Additionally, the workers couldnt tell me when their manager would be in so I could speak with her, and it took me three attempts to finally speak in person. Maneca, the manager there, said that any extra sort of cleaning means an additional charge, and they have limited supplies to clean vehicles at this location (they have handheld vacuums not ones you typically to see at any decent car rental location). She did not care about anything I had to say, and kept reiterating the company policy (extra cleaning beyond a handheld vacuum = $$). WHY AM I BEING CHARGED BECAUSE YOUR COMPANY DOESNT SUPPLY WORKERS WITH SUFFICIENT SUPPLIES TO DO THEIR JOB AT THIS LOCATION? Absolutely horrible experience all around, and I would NEVER recommend this joke of a car rental location to anyone. Customer service was a complete joke. BEWARE: PLEASE MAKE SURE THE CAR IS SPOTLESS WHEN YOU RETURN OR YOU WILL BE CHARGED (+21% Chicago car rental tax!!!!)

I rent from this place often and i love it. The people at the front desk are super nice, the rates are cheap, the hours are good, and the cars are impressively nice. The only downside is the garage is difficult to maneuver in and the return process is about 5 years behind other avis locations (come on guys, no handheld scanner and printer?). I moved to Chicago a little over a year ago, and every time Ive had to go back home, renting a car was my least expensive option. I have an enterprise closer to where I live, but even though I live in an area where Im supposed to get a discount, they are always really expensive.I found Avis and they are close enough that its not inconvenient to rent from them, and they are the best priced option near me 99% of the time (not counting airports).

This is a very convenient car rental location/pick-up point; it was the second time that we have used it and on both occasions we were 100% satisfied. With AVIS it is possible to rent a car at a downtown location such as this, and return the car to the airport; this is not always possible with other car rental companies without paying a high supplement. We would use this facility again without hesitation and would recommend it to anyone requiring car rental at a location convenient to many city-centre hotels.

I rent from Avis at the North Loop location frequently. I use to always use Enterprise, but once I started using Avis, I would never go back. The cars are fantastic, the service is quick and efficient, the staff is friendly and helpful, and the price is usually cheaper than elsewhere with way better quality cars. Nothing bad to say and it is always my go-to rental location.

First time renting a car from Avis. Great friendly staff. Easy and efficient processing. Was in and out after just 10 mins. The basement is a bit tight though so you might want to re-think renting out a large vehicle. Otherwise, great place to rent a car for the weekend.

I am a corporate business traveler and had a horrible experience at 214 N. Clark Street location today in Chicago Illinois. This incident delayed my travel by 2 hours and is unacceptable. The cars were all dirty and stained on the inside. I will never use this location again. The two attendents in the basement started arguing when I said the car was dirty. Blaming each other. Then the 2nd car that the counter rep( Lathnaia) switched me to was more dirty than the first one. I notified the female attendent in the basement and she just started laughing. I again went back to the rental counter upstairs, the representative then escorted me to the basement to see what she could find. She said all of the cars were dirty and had no recommendations. The check in counter person told me the car wash was not working, but could not explain why the inside of the vehicles were dirty and stained? I had no choice but to cancel my reservation on my own and book elsewhere. There should have been more assistance with locating a clean and acceptable vehicle. The staff was very unprofessional and not helpful.

Imposible to talk to a human being. Endless awful phone tree that leads to nothing. I hate companies like this. Also, closes at 3:30. Im trying to think of a car rental company Ive ever heard of that closes mid-afternoon but i cant. Last time using this company!

The check in area is great. The return area is a nightmare. The garage is only accessible by a tight single lane for exit and entry. There were multiple cars trying to be guided in tight quarters by multiple attendants, while you rush to unload your rental before your luggage almost gets run over by other cars.

Rented on the weekend of the huge snowstorm in the East. Flights cancelled and everyone was scurrying to get a car. Avis was very accommodating, efficient and helpful. Would rent from Avis in the US anytime. Unfortunately, cant say the same for Avis France - stay away from them.

They always say that you should experience things 1st before you judge and if I had follow some of the reviews that I saw about this location I wouldnt go there but I did because I dont judge base on what people say. I didnt get tge vehicle that I requested but the agent at the desk make sure that I got something nicer and more spacious, I was out in less than 10 minutes. Returning thevehicle wasnt different either, the process was quick and easy. I will be using back this location.

Rented a few cars from here. The ladies at the counter are excellent. Patient, apologetic, and professional. The people who get the cars ready are another story. They never seen to have enough cars ready for all the reservations they have on record. We always have to wait on the car, never a time when you can come in and get your car and go

Why Rent-A-Car hair when you can rent a car two miles away at 1561 North Fremont Street at the Avis budget location in the Grossinger Autoplex the management is great and the associates are awesome we will match any price in the local area. This location is a corporate location or all they want is for your money. My location is all about helping the customers

Showed up with a reservation. Waited for 10 minutes and then asked a couple of questions about the insurance policies. Suddenly the costumer service pictured here threw my ID and credit card number on the counter telling me that they wouldnt give me a car. I called the costumer service and nothing happened. This was their gift to me for the new year. Never would deal with Avis again.

This is my go-to location when renting a car. The location is easy to get to via CTA, and right downtown, so its easier for me to get here to pick-up/drop-off without having to go all the way out the the airport. Service is always top notch. Very friendly and professional staff.

Nearly every time I rent a car with Avis, including and especially this last one, the car has recently been smoked in and is covered up with chemicals that make the agency unbearable. I felt nauseous after this rental as a result. Why isnt the smoking rule enforced? Why cant I ever get a car that is clean?
