I called Macky Repair with an unusual problem… my transmission was getting stuck in 3rd or 4th gear but only if it had rained the day/night before. My car has 200,000 miles and ran perfectly otherwise. I was really hoping the transmission itself wasn’t the problem due to $$. Within just a few days they figured out what the issue was, fixed it, and had me on my way. Great work and a very fair cost!

Had some issues at first but they were willing to work with me to get things sorted out. Work is quality though time management could improve

Their service was totally disappointing. None of them wore a mask. They charged me extra for a intermediate sedan, saying that it needed more than 5 quarts of oil for an oil change. Also, they did not even top off the fluids and I ended up with no windsheild fluid while traveling to the coast. Im sorry but will dedinitely not recommend their oil change.

I had a rather urgent issue with my truck tailgate being locked and needing to get in there. After calling a couple other shops I was familiar with and being told itd be a week before they could get me in I called Macky on a whim. Troy said he could take a look at it that morning quick. When I got there, they were able to look at it, diagnose the issue, and get me in and out in about 10-15 minutes even with a shop full of vehicles. Really saved me in a jam. They were honest, fair, and did a fantastic job of explaining/showing me what the issue was and explaining my options moving forward. I hadnt heard of these guys before and used to use another shop in town that closed, but after such an awesome experience they likely earned a customer for life. Working with Troy was easy and effortless, really like this shop!

I had a really great experience with these wonderful professionals. They went above and beyond to make sure my car was fixed, not to mention the fact that Macky gave me a really good discount I was really satisfied even amazed with how I was treated. I do recommend it to anybody whose car needs some attention. Take my word for it, you wont regret it!

Im new to Ames and luckily came across Macky Repair when I needed tire repair. They were very friendly and I was out of there in no time. They also provided recommendations in a very helpful and professional manner as to future maintenance to think about with my tires. Will be going back for sure.

If I could give Macky more than 5 stars, I would. My daughters suv was vandalized (catalytic converters stolen) and Troy went to the truck and took enough care to put her back on the road. Outstanding customer service. I bought a bike that had a stripped head bolt and the previous owner said that this shop was the last place the engine was worked on. With out any unreasonable hassle, they fixed it. I plan to take my business here from now on.

We stopped on a Friday afternoon with brake problems on a boat trailer. The mechanic knew exactly how to fix the problem and he made recommendations and we were on our way for a price that was way more than fair!

For the most part, I was very happy with the work done at the repair shop. They were able to get my car in fairly quickly, the repairs were done ahead of schedule, and the cost was very fair. However, when I got my car back it had a greasy hand print on the side and a large swirl mark on the hood, which will need to be buffed out.

I highly recommend everyone to come here.. you need any work done on your car these are the guys. Very very friendly hard workers fast service... great great place.

Troy is always so helpful, very knowledgeable and you can tell helping get you on the road safely is a bigger priority than making money. When I had my transmission mounts replaced, they gave me an estimate and the final cost was right in line with the estimate. Definitely has my business as long as I am in Ames.The passion is there with everyone I talked to which makes for an enjoyable experience throughout.

My wife, myself and our 10 month old son were driving to Minneapolis from Des Moines. We had just filled her car’s tires up so when the tire pressure light came on we panicked a bit. I called Mackey auto and cannot say enough about the service we received. With a 5 minute notice, Corey got us in, fixed the tire and got us out within 15 minutes. On top of it all, the shop wasn’t even supposed to be open. He helped us just because he wanted to. Nothing but great things to say and would highly recommend this establishment to anyone.

Im glad to hear others had a good experience; however, after a botched timing belt repair that took an extra day to perform and an failed attempt to have Mackey Repair rectify the preventative maintenance issue after discussions/notifications, I find it impossible to recommend taking a car to this repair shop. Please consider some others first.

The service and quality were great. Friendly, knowledgeable and honest.Background: 3 months before, I had taken my car into the Toyota dealership, and they botched everything. I took the car in because of a card-flapping sound during acceleration, and as expected, they tried to fix everything else and charge me lots. When I hopped into my car on pick-up, the noise was still there. A mechanic rode with me and would not stop talking about the tires long enough to hear the flap. 2 days later, my car was fixed.3 months later, my check engine light goes on. I take it to Macky. They look at it, say the codes look bad, and will investigate. I come back, and it was the spark plugs (big eye-brow wipe). However, if my spark plugs were so bad that it turned on the check engine lights, Toyota should have been able to catch it. If they were looking. Toyota dealership, nevermore. Macky all the way!Plus, they threw in a great deal on the tires for me. I can trust these people.

Troy was phenomenal! My Jeep broke down on the way up north and Macky Repair was the closest shop that had great reviews. Troy dropped everything and fixed my Jeep in about 2 hours. He is a very honest mechanic and has the most reasonable shop and labor fees I have seen in Central Iowa. I would drive out of my way to Ames to have Troy work on any of my vehicles. Macky Repair is a stellar place. My Subaru had developed quite a few problems, and they patiently worked through all of them. It felt like they cared about getting the car fixed and worked with me on the price of the fix. Another place would have charged way more, and as a college student, I cannot thank them enough for this, and this made it clear that they truly care about what they do. They definitely have a repeat customer in me now, and I would recommend them to all my friends. Class guys.

Had my car looked at, they called back very quickly and said that there had been an item that was lodged into the wheel and was causing the screeching noise. They removed the item and did NOT charge me anything for their time. Very kind of them. Great service. I would highly recommend.

Theres a reason for all these five-star reviews. My daughters car was vandalized while parked - the drivers side mirror was broken off, but since I live 7 hours away I couldnt install it for her. We found a part inexpensively online and I contacted a few repair shops in the area by email. Macky was the first to reply, had the highest ratings and the lowest estimate. They were able to make an appointment with her on a Saturday (the other shops werent open weekends) and got the part installed extremely quickly. Completely unexpectedly, they didnt even charge her! They did a fantastic job with the repair and have earned a customer for as long as shes in Ames. If you want honest, friendly, quality service, look no further than Macky Repair.

A check engine light on my new to me car came on shortly after a complimentary oil change from the dealership I bought it at. I didnt want to drive to Des Moines to be charged an arm and a leg for something that it seemed they messed up. Thank goodness for Macky Repair, they quickly found that a sensor needed replaced...somehow the sensor was filled with oil. If you want a competent mechanic at a reasonable price, these are your guys!

They can get super nice cars and sell for cheap, below a lot from the market price with person to person service! i was very happy to buy a car from them and willing to trade in car back and get another car soon!

Our van broke down as we were going thruogh Ames, this was the closest repair shop. We were gratefull they squeezed us in first thing the next morning and got us back on the road for a reasonable price.

I was in a bind. My car wouldnt run and my (previously) usual mechanic was booked up. So on a recommendation, I brought my car to Macky Repair.I can say nothing bad about the experience. The guy at the front desk was amazingly knowledgeable; he was able to pinpoint the source of my cars Crank, no start issue within moments of hearing the symptoms. The car was repaired so quickly I could hardly believe it! When it came time to pay up, I was in for another treat, as this guys hourly labor rate was ~35% lower than the place I had been taking my car. Next time my car needs work itll be a no-brainer to bring it to Macky Repair.

Went in for second opinion on a bad alternator. Not only did they find that the alternator was fine (didnt jump on the opportunity to do an unnecessary repair and make a quick buck), they replaced a brake light for free! Didnt even charge for the diagnostic. This is how you gain customers! THANKS!!!

Great service and fair price.

I was driving from Lincoln to a wedding in Minneapolis on the Friday before Labor Day and blew the water pump on my BMW. Luckily, this happened only a few miles from Supreme/Macky Repair. The tow truck driver recommended them and so would I.They brought my car right in (this was after 5 PM on Friday of a holiday weekend) and diagnosed the problem immediately. They had the pump IN STOCK and gave me a quote on parts and labor. They gave me a loaner car and had me back on the road to the wedding within 45 minutes of arriving at their shop. They called at 10 AM the next morning (Saturday) to say the new water pump was installed. We then set up a time to meet on Sunday to return the loaner, pickup my car and pay for the service.I met the mechanic on Sunday afternoon (I think he changed his weekend plans to meet me there) and pay for the service. The charge was as quoted, and he took the time to find the old water pump (another mechanic had performed the service on Saturday) and show me where it had failed.Coming from the East Coast, the service at Supreme/Macky Repair is better than anything I am used to and I would highly recommend them.
