Our car broke down in the middle of a move across the country. When we came in, they werent able to get an appointment that day (came in near close) but were able to set us up the next morning and even took a look at it it to see if they could get us back on the road quickly that day. Amazing service, I would definitely go to them in the future if I were ever in the area.

Nick, the new manager, is AMAZING! He was upfront that he couldnt repair my sons car tire that day, but offered to change to the spare so we wouldnt have to (coming from MN to move our son to ISU). We didnt mind the wait, and were very impressed with Nicks supervision and managerial skills. He had just moved to Ames and only been working this location a few days. We watched Nick juggle many issues with professionalism and careful attention to detail. He was answering calls, returning calls with thorough explanation to customers, going out to the service area to support his mechanics, and kept everything well organized. He was also very personable to customers both in person and on the phone. I told him that day how impressive he was, called back a few days later after my sons tire was repaired and reinstalled, and called Nicks supervisor. I told the supervisor that Midas had better ensure Nick stays at least another 3 years while my son is in attendance at ISU! Have never been there before, hopefully wont need them again, but will definitely go there if necessary.

Very bad experience here. I put my vehicle here for oil changed, and after I get my vehicle back my suspension got broken and my vehicle runs to the right on its own. And what they said is suggesting me doing a tire alignment at the store. After a second time I put my vehicle here for taking inspection for a few days, my battery dry out and my car doesn’t start up. It is totally bad experience here and I wouldn’t recommend here for further repair works.

Went in to have them run a diagnostic on our air-conditioning and they tried to tell me my engine fan was not working and would cost my wife $700 until I showed up and looked at the vehicle and the engine fan was fully functional and in good working order. I talked to a master mechanic and he confirmed my suspension and when I called their service manager Wyatt and asked him about it again he had no explanation for me and come to find out it was just a switch that was bad and only cost $40 smh 🙄 Get your act together Midas y I will never come to this business again unless I personally bring in the vehicle. I am reporting this incedent to their corporate office in Itasca Illinois.

Driving through Ames from WI to NE, stopped by Iowa State for a tour... upon leaving kept hearing a clink under the carriage. Turned out cover plate was loose and dragging. Popped into the MIdas location and asked if they could just help me from making it worse on our travels... they immedially put the van up on a lift, and replaced some screws, had me fixed up in no time. Then didnt even charge for the service!! Fingers crossed my Future Cyclone makes the commitment, we would certainly use them again and recommend them. Friendly, Fast, Amazing!

Customer service beyond compare. I dropped my vehicle off the night before and received a call the following morning about a change of plans because the techs noticed something when they had lifted my car. Absolutely up front and honest. Cannot say enough good things!

Set an appointment 5 days in advance. Got a confirmation call back the next day. Day of I get there and they marked the time down wrong and were too busy to get me in. The parking lot is abysmally small for a auto-shop as well.

We have three vehicles and are retired. My husband has stage 4 kidney cancer so we need our vehicles to get where we need to go at any time. Ron is the guy to go too! He is absolutely honest and fair! Hes fixed and maintained all three of our vehicles for several years. Hes an honest man. We have a new battery from him almost 2 years ago. When it seemed to have a problem Ron took a look at it at no charge and will replace it if needed. It checked out fine and he didnt charge us and he also got us in right away! I plan on staying with him for many more years!

No worries I’ll just keep getting oil changes at wal mart. But these deceptive thieves had the audacity to email me asking for a google review 🤷🏼‍♂️

Midas front desk customer service was awesome! I had no idea what was wrong with my car I just knew it had been acting funny. The gentleman was kind and helpful immediately. After looking over my vehicle and testing it they gave me suggestions of things that will need care sooner than later and gave me the tools (paper information) I needed to keep my car running the best it can along with estimates for the repairs I would need. Seemed trustworthy and like they really wanted to give me the best service that they could give that I NEEDED

Ron and crew were great! They were very patient with my lack of knowledge about cars and with me calling my dad with every question. They were able to determine the problem, and Ron was sure to call me before performing any work. Dad ultimately talked to Ron and did the deciding on what work was to be done, but they were able to do all of that and perform a regular tune-up and oil change before the work day was over. Roger kindly showed me what part of my car needs my surveillance and explained what I needed to watch for and what fluid to purchase to prevent further problems.

I was able to schedule an appointment online using a coupon. They were ready for me when I showed up. In and out fast oil change and tire rotation. Friendly staff and nice TV to watch in the lobby if you wait there.

Another great visit to this location. Their staff is great at not charging you for what you dont need. We thought we had oil leaking but it ended up just being a minor fix and barely $10 charge. Thanks again!

I fell very confident to say they are the best auto shop in Ames. From oil change to more complicated problem your car could have. Always honest, which for me is the most important issue.

Midas in Ames Iowa did another excellent job of servicing my van. They were very thorough and followed up on the items that I asked them to inspect. In addition they finished sooner than I had expected. They are always friendly and explain things clearly that need to be repaired.

Good service and fair prices

Midas is our go to service center for my husband’s Chevy Cruze. We knew we had an issue with the engine overheating. We left it in their lot on Sunday night and Monday a.m. they called with the results of their checks. It needed a new water pump - but they didn’t do it. Instead they let him know that it was still under warranty and he could save big money getting it fixed at a dealer. Very honest folks!

They always have treated me right. Will be doing more business with them.

Great service, clean building, friendly workers. Would definitely recommend. They were also able to diagnose why my tire was leaking and were able to fix it for 20 dollars by swapping out a new valve stem.

I went here over a year ago because I had to push down far on my breaks for it to start working and I wanted to make sure they were okay. They looked at it and told me all was well and didnt charge me a thing. Just came back today to get my battery changed because my car kept dying. They did a full checkup to ensure that I needed a battery change and not something else. It was a battery but its nice to have an ease of mind. They were very helpful !

Have had a few poor experiences in the past like any where you go. The last few years I have had great experience with bringing multiple vehicles. Have done great service and been overly helpful with furture services and suggestions to help maintain my vehicle better and have been able to help when other mechanics could not.

They did a good job fixing my car, although they ripped me off saying I have multiple things bad on my car. After getting my car fixed, they did an “inspection” saying my ball joints and tire rods and few other things are in bad shape and busted. I had taken it to a mechanic to see if it was real or not, and all of those things are in great condition. It’s sad that you have to rip people off saying you are “needing repairs.” You lost a family of customers and I won’t be bringing my car back.

Been going here for 8 years with 3 of our family vehicles. Parking lot has no room but the service is fair and while a bit pricey they have never tried to talk me into a repair I didnt need. Having a mechanic friend double check their reports and quotes has taught me this.

Ron is a nice guy!. I have taken my car to midas a couple of times and the mechanics have always done a great job. Ron and the other staff are respectful and try to address the customers concerns.The only issue has been with my car tire that releases air much faster. It has been fixed twice, but doesnt seem fine. I have to add pressure more often, but that is minor.I am happy that they have fixed the mechanical related issues effectively and in a timely manner. I would highly recommend midas.

I took my car in yesterday for an unknown noise its been making for a bit now. Ryan test drove the car and checked it out and determined that the noise is not something i should worry about. I am most impressed that they could have told me it was anything (because i was prepared for the worst) and charged me a lot of money...instead, he told me to keep an eye (or ear) on it and charged me nothing for them to look at it. I will definitely bring the car in to Midas for whatever it needs in the future.

We are from Kansas City and my son is attending Iowa State University. His car broke down and we had it towed to Midas in Ames. They told him what the problem was and he had it repaired. The Midas staff repaired the item that was broke and never suggested any other repairs like lots of shops do to make money. We are very happy with them. It is nice to have a repair shop you can trust when away from home.

Ive had some work done here, including two tire patches from nail holes. On one of the patches, the tire pressure sensor got damaged in the process, but I brought it back and they worked to make it right and fix it for me. Ron is a class act guy and finished off the fix with a good old-fashioned hand shake. I can highly recommend Midas Ames; of all the auto shops in Ames, this is the one I trust the most

They did a great job diagnosing the problem with my brakes and fixing it. They showed me the problem and kept me informed throughout the process of fixing it. I would use them for service in the future.

Update: using the link to contact you in your response netted in no response from whoever reads those reviews.Took my car there to find out it had a cracked radiator. I replaced it with them and paid somewhere in the neighbourhood of 650$. The very next day my car breaks down at the same spot it broke down previously, on my way to a road drip to Minneapolis. Turns out one of the hoses had come off! The clamp had not been tightened at all and it just came off! Incredibly shoddy work. Tow it back to the shoppe, wasted another AAA tow and they put an extra clamp on the hose. Not a year later, my coolant levels were suspiciously low. Called them and because the unit was still under warranty for the 12 months they performed a free replacement. Another less than 12 months later, possibly about 8, as soon as I pull into my driveway I see that there are massive leaks. I inspect and I see that the bottom hose clamp had completely snapped off. I called the place and I asked them since this is your work gone bad can you offer a tow? The guy said that they would inspect it and make sure it is their fault and would not charge me for the tow. Then the same person I talked to on the phone calls me and tells me that its the clamp that had snapped off and that he put a new one in, and since it was not their clamp he would charge me for just the tow. Absolutely absurd! It was their clamp! Acura does not use the screw in clamps and the radiator had not been worked on prior to them replacing it. Acura uses the plier clamps. After a few minutes of arguing with the person at the counter he finally decided to give me my car keys and not charge me the 50$ for the towing. I was not going to pay for something that they were at fault of.And as if this was all not enough, ever since they replaced my radiator my heater is not working properly. I am however afraid of going back to the place because they would surely deny me any chance of looking into it, let alone admit to any fault judging by past experience. I have been entirely frustrated with the shoppe. I believe that in the process of replacing the radiator they might have left an air pocket in the heater core or replaced it with one that does not send proper water flow to the heater core, thus rendering it useless.If someone reads this review and is willing to take a look at the car and help me determine the honest issue with the heating not working properly I would be grateful and willing to change my rating. I do not mean to be unnecessarily rude with this review, but I vastly regret my decision to have my radiator repair done in that facility, and I am frustrated about it. Ames gets weathers below 0F so having no heat in my car really makes my life a living hell that has frozen over.

I am being shipped for BCT soon and will be on active duty for years so I dont really want to spend a lot on the car; but the brake of my car was making a lot of noise and a rim was bent so I had to do something. One of my roommate recommended Midas cuz he sent his car there for a brake replacement but they told him that his brakes were fine and not needed to be replaced after a free inspection. There were other problems with the car and I knew it before I send my car there, Ron knew I didnt wanna spend much on it so he recommended only whats necessary. But that was not everything, I decided to write the review because I noticed that they also fixed (reinforced) the heat shields around the exhaust pipe for me and didnt even charge me or tell me about it; we had an agreement on the price before they started working on it and the heat shield was not included, they didnt have to do it for me. Great people. I really appreciate it.

Ive been in for a few different services. The oil change was as expected. They fixed an issue with my brakes which led to a small glitch in my emergency brakes indicator light--they got it back in and fixed that quickly with many apologies despite the superfluous nature of the problem. Theyve talked me out of expensive repairs a couple of times, too. They charged me $25 to tighten a couple of belts when I thought Id be shelling out ~$500 for replacements. They also did a nice once-over before selling my 2000 Camry. Again, thinking I was going to have to replace a strut, they found that the noise was actually not dangerous, really just superficial. Ive never had a bad experience with them.

I had a problem with my car, they diagnosed it and I agreed to fix it. Unfortunately, the fix they did wasnt something that was causing the problem. Then they found another very expensive fix, but I didnt have money for that fix. They returned me the money I paid for the previous fix. Very good work ethics.

Brought a tire in that I just got a flat on about 30 minutes before closing. They were able to fix it real fast and saved me some stress.

They got the service done quickly and even stayed open a little bit late for me so I could come get my vehicle before they closed as they werent going to be open the next day.
