Reasonable pricing, quick service, great location, and the staff are friendly and respectful. They have always called before doing any work. Theyve given me straight forward pricing that they stick to. While the vehicle is in theyll look things over and provide suggestions, but not pushy. I have been to several shops in Ames over the last 7 years and Rons Auto has treated me very fair. My opinion is that this is a very professional and trustworthy place to do business.

Incompetent mechanics, flat out lied about the repairs needed, broke TPMS sensor put on non OEM parts that the computer couldnt recognize. Had to go down to the Toyota dealership to get my own parts that actually worked, and then go to another shop to get the TPMS reprogrammed, waste of time. Richard actually told me to come back in a couple days to get it refixed because they were swamped, told him that perhaps he should get yesterdays work done before he worried about todays work had to take my lawn chair and sit outside the front door and demand that they fix what they screwed up and still couldnt get that done. Never again and Ill go so far as to dissuade anybody getting auto repairs down there.

I took Ron’s Servce back in 2009-2011 and he is an excellent person to work with. Back in those days they were located near hyvee on Lincoln. I actually searched them there on google map to write this review and noticed that they had moved. Recognized by two photos one with his wife with dog and the other of their team where Ron is standing with!His quality as person is excellent and he is an honest person who will take you under the vehicle to show the problem and never upsales or overcharges. I regret not having people like him. Now a days everyone is just trying to rip you off when you take your vehicle for any repairs. Ron is an ethical mechanic/ technician and he will charge you for the repairs but not a single penny more and will explain every penny spent on your repairs. I truly appreciate his patience with me and also accommodating my request for payment as per my ability and in installments without charging any additional charges.I will strongly recommend him over any other for the quality of service and character and attitude Ron brings to help.I truly enjoyed coffee at shop while you explained me things in my car for which I knew nothing about. Richard and Lisa were very helpful. They were able to get my car in quickly. When it had to stay longer than expected they helped arrange alternative transportation. Ive had no problems with the car since it was a return to me. The clutch was replaced and axle seals fixed as well. I recommend their services.

When I first moved to Ames, a coworker immediately told me that Ron’s was the only place they trusted with their vehicle. In 5 years I’ve never had anything but outstanding service. They are extremely honest and reliable. I took my vehicle in for a travel check for an upcoming trip and they were up front and told me that it didn’t need any repairs and I was good to go. Plus, the PDF they send you of every step of your service or repair is just above and beyond.

Got us in quickly, gave us 2 options for repair and followed up with a text to make sure the repairs were up to our expectations and working well. Will use them again in the future.

Richard at Ron’s Auto Repair quoted me the best price that I could find, and was able to replace the alternator in my 2006 Honda Ridgeline on short notice. They squeezed me into their daily schedule and had the repair done in a few short hours. The work was completed that day, and they even followed up with me after a few days to be certain that all was working to my satisfaction. Recently bought a new set of tires for one of our SUVs, and theyre great. Could have saved a few bucks by ordering online and having them shipped to an affiliated shop for mounting. Cheaper, but a lot of moving parts to that scenario. Rons knew what I wanted, and took care of everything. Rons has been taking care of our family cars for about 15-years or more, and among my wife, the kids and me there have been too many to remember. This is what I can say...I dont know if they are the least expensive around for any particular repair, but frankly price is not a determinative factor for me. We started going to Rons, because they supported one of the kids athletic teams, but we continue to use them because they have always done the right job as promised, and on time. And, I have never had to go back multiple times for the same problem. They have always been accommodating when I needed something quick or a ride home. (Keep in mind that COVID is creating all kinds of challenges for small businesses and everyone else.) They have even provided advice about buying a used car, and helped me track down a repair shop in Buffalo I could trust to help one of the kids when they were in college and their car needed some significant work. Theyve worked on all kinds of makes and models for us; big jobs and small, and I can say that Ive always driven away satisfied with the outcome.

I had used Rons a couple times in the past. The first time everything went well. I thought the price/efficiency was worked out to be a good value.The second time I needed brakes on my kids car. I though the quote was high, but I needed them quickly and the brakes were in bad shape, so I didnt want to drive it far.Went in for brakes on my Ford on the third visit. I told them I needed brakes, but they still charged me $40 to confirm it (something Jiffy Lube checks for free with an oil change). Then, they quoted me almost $500 for rear pads and rotors. A quick call to a competitor confirmed they were $100 too high.I like to support small, local businesses, but I wont pay 25% premium. No complaints about their work, but the $40 price to confirm what I know, and the ridiculous quote that came from it means that I will never go there again.

Richard was great! I brought my 2008 Chevy Impala in with some steering issues and he diagnosed the issues and gave me a fair quote. In the end I didnt choose to get the service completed due to the age of the vehicle and Richard was very considerate and even filled up the PS fluid for me to drive it home. I wasnt pressured to get any work done and he didnt try to convince me anything else needed repairs like some shops do. I was very pleased and would recommend this shop

I took my car to rons for a tune up before my warranty expired. They discovered my brakes were needing replaced. They also discovered metal shavings in my oil. They called me to tell me that I should talk to the dealer since the car was still under warranty. The dealer is going to replace the motor under warranty. I was on a trip 120 miles from home when my truck failed to start. I called Ron’s and they really took care of me. They arranged the towing to their shop and took time out of their busy schedule to try and restart my truck. They found a hotel for me, but it wasn’t needed as they were able to get my truck started allowing me to get home. Great Service at a reasonable price.

I went to this business because it was so highly rated while being known for honesty and good service, and for the life of me I cannot figure out why! I had such a horrible experience with them, and would rate a 0 if I could. They were great on the phone, but when I walked through the door were rude and can off as if my paying business was bothering them.They are only open during working hours on weekdays, which wouldn’t be a problem except for the fact that I am a working adult. They take in a massive pool of cars in the morning, and do not return them until the end of day despite always stating the possibility of a short return. This is clearly to fix easy problems and have medium to large ones return, thus increasing financial gain. My car had a clear problem, not a maybe or maybe not, but a blaring, anyone-can-see-it-and-hear-it problem. I reluctantly left my car with them at 8am had a friend drive me to work, and when I picked up my car at 3:30pm they said it wasn’t fixed and I would have to come back in a few days! They proceeded to give me a list of small fixes—all expensive—but repeatedly told me after several attempts to voice my concern that the viewed problem didn’t exist and would go away with these treatments. I dont see how an entire car cranking and grinding on the road is a figment of imagination. I returned and gave my car to them for ANOTHER 7 hours, and when I picked it up, the initial problem was WORSE!I drove from their lot to another dealer’s and schedule an appointment for Saturday morning. This dealer had my initial issue diagnosed and fixed at a lower price than Ron’s WHOLE BILL in less than two hours! Its clear that when I walked through the door this service did not see me as a customer who could be of any value, and blew off all forms of good ethics for an easy bill and threw me out the door. I can honestly say I was shocked; I don’t expect to be treated well by mechanics, but Ron’s is a whole new level.

I was given a snazzy online review of my car with pictures saying I needed about $3000 in total repairs. I am not sure if they have a file of pictures of cracked belts etc they use or what. I took my vehicle somewhere else for a 2nd opinion and have been able to get the necessary repairs done for under $1000. If you go in as a single woman I’m afraid you have $ signs flashing above your head.

Every time I’ve brought my vehicle here they have only temporarily fixed a issue while another has occurred brought my 08 Dodge Grand Caravan in for the ac to be looked at they said it had no leaks. Worked for a day then ran out again on top of that 4 new lights that have never been on came on all at once. Absolutely terrible. Also brought my 07 Durango in to be looked at for oil pressure sensor and now the 4wd service light is on.

Very disappointed in this place. My father had called and asked to have my broken AC looked at just to get an estimate of what it would cost to fix it and if it was worth it. They failed to mention over the phone that it would be $160 to check it and waited until after it was already done to let my father know that he has to pay. Pathetic.

Charges a ridiculous amount for labor hours on top of doing a bad job. Got my exhaust leak repaired and they installed my exhaust back wrong. They replaced an ignition coil for a misfire and I now have a check engine light for the same problem less than a week later.

Very disappointed in my experience. I dropped my vehicle off late Thursday night for an appointment Friday. I received a call around 3pm Friday, they found the issue but it would take a couple of hours to repair and they didn’t have time to complete it. I was told if I left the car with them over the weekend they would start the job Friday afternoon and would finish it Monday. Although inconvenient, I left my car over the weekend.Fast forward to Monday. At 3pm I still had not heard anything. I called and spoke with a woman at the front desk. She stated, “the part just got here, we should be able to get it done tomorrow.” I explained that I don’t live in Ames and I was expecting it to be done today, like I was told on Friday. She then told me Jason would be giving me a call this afternoon to address my concerns........fast forward to Tuesday afternoon. The 1st and only phone call I received about my vehicle repair, stating it was done and I could come and pick it up. I expressed my frustration to the woman that called me, she asked if I would like to speak to the owner.After speaking with him I remain dissatisfied with the service and communication they provided.All he could provide were excuses of why the vehicle wasn’t done by Monday, “that’s how the car repair business goes.” There was no offer to make the situation right or anything.Lastly, there price for repair was more expensive than Carx. I always try to support local businesses. Unfortunately, I won’t be going back to Ron’s Auto Repair Center or recommending it to any family or friends.

I drove in from a 5 hour drive to pick up my son from ISU. My car started leaking huge amounts of radiator fluid 2 blocks before the school. I called AAA they recommended Rons auto. I was very impressed with the service I recieved. It was Monday and I needed my van repaired by the week end. I called a competitor I have used consistently, they could not get me in for couple days. I called Rons and they could not get me in for a couple of days, but offered a solution in a loaner car while mine waited to be repaired. Adam then kept me in the loop, with photos and estimated time of repair. My repair man did not care about my problem and usually I wonder when it will be completed or if they have looked at it. RONS took the worry out of getting my vehicle back. I ended up enjoying my granddaughters soccer game in Kansas City. Thanks to RONS my new repair shop.

Walked in; was greeted pleasantly, asked about what I needed, and got right to solutions. The guy was friendly and very helpful. Came outside to look at my tire, laid right down on the ground, and checked it out. I thought it wasnt repairable. He fixed it in literally a matter of few minutes and I was on my way.

Been going to Rons for a long time, very good mechanics. Had them do pre-purchase checks on several cars for the family, in 2 cases saved us from buying cars that had major issues. Had my sister take her car there, and they solved her issue in no time, and at a fair price. I would certainly recommend them.

This place is a trap. Charges way too much for simple repair jobs. Took my 11 mailbu to get the thermostat valve changed cause it was overheating. 65$ just to find the problem + 250$ in parts and labor + 160$ to flush the coolant system. As a college student with no knowledge of what auto repairs should cost expecting them to give me a fair price. I agreed to the price over the phone but after I look it up online afterwards. Should have only cost no more than 250$ total. What a scam. Do not trust these people to be fair with you. Watch out for added costs.

Ive been going to Rons for over 30 years. Ive always been treated to the best service possible. Ron always takes the time to explain what the problem is, as well as whether or not there are any options available to address it and how critical it is. My most recent visit involved a somewhat major repair. I had purchased an extended warranty when I bought a used truck. Dan took the time to call the warranty in, and getting approval saved me hundreds of $s. I highly recommend Rons to anyone who needs work on their vehicle, no matter how minor or major.

I am a senior and I can speak from years of experience, they are the finest repair maintenance shop that I have ever dealt with! They have kept my aging car in condition and never fail to address my concerns. I would with confidence recommend Rons Auto to anyone.

I am extremely disappointed, especially after I had such a great first experience four years ago. I asked them if they would look at my car as I thought it was a wheel bearing going out, and they said no problem, just drop it off. I did so and received a call the following day that it would cost $520 to replace the wheel bearing and $208 to get the transmission flushed. Since my dad raised me to be aware and not to let people take advantage of me, I called three other auto repair shops. All three quoted me that the total repair would be roughly $300. $220 less than their quote! I called back saying I would be taking my business somewhere else, they informed me that I would still need to pay the $60 testing fee that they didnt even tell me about initially. I would have been fine paying $10 to $20 to have them tell me whats wrong with my car, but $60 is ridiculous! Especially when they didnt tell me about it the fee in advance and I already knew what was wrong with it. I really was hoping to have a good experience, but this was just really ridiculous and I intend on taking my business elsewhere in the future. Please make improvements in the future as I really was hoping to have a great experience.

After coming home from deployment I had issues with my truck. Timing belt slipped and needed to Paid 7,000 [an arm and a leg] for a new engine that wasnt installed correctly. 12,000 dollars after the fact, my truck is now running normal. My opinion hire a real professional repair service.

First and foremost - They did an incredible repair and were very thorough and helpful in fixing my car. I would totally come back to this business if I was in the Ames area - the only thing haunting my mind was the last interaction of my experience. I went here because my car was shaking and I didnt know why. They were able to find the problem within an hour as I worked on homework at the nearby Starbucks across the way. They called asking to do a smoke bomb of sorts to find the problem in the tubing, and eventually fixed the car. Now - the car drove more smoothly then I had ever experienced, but it still had very mild shaking. I drove it home - to the next morning finding the the car wouldnt start AT ALL. I called them saying I needed it towed back to the shop, and saying I wasnt looking on spending a dime more on it, mentioning it should have been fixed correctly the first time. They towed it and fixed it. I walked into the shop with the receptionist saying We found the problem, it needed a new part, we should have charged you, just know, we should have charged you, were being nice to you. It was only this comment that really ruined my experience, if youre going to do something free of charge to fix my vehicle correctly, you shouldnt be so timid to let me have it as I walk out with a car that I requested fixing right the first time. I spent a pretty penny.I know this is a minor hiccup, but seem it worth mentioning - I refuse to let the bad receptionist takeaway from the great repair the mechanics in the back did on my car - it drove just like new, it was the smoothest ride Ive ever had, thank you! To the owners who left gracious and helpful emails in my dismay - thank you!

Broke down in Ames, and they did a great job getting my car running again. They were friendly, helpful, and treated me well. All that being said, I hope I never have to use them again, but if I ever do break down in Ames, theyre the first ones Ill call.

I go to Rons because I want it done right the first time and I only want what I need. I remember taking my car in thinking I needed 4 disc brakes. Ron replaced 2 brakes and told me I had another year left on the other set. The shop is honest and transparent. As far as price goes, I know that Ron does not use cheap parts, he uses high quality materials so they last longer. Bottom line is, I trust them to do the best job they can and to do the right thing.

They got me in quick and were very fast however they tried to take me for a ride on the prices for work. Charged me $30 to look at my pulleys and quoted me $500 for a tension pulley. Will not be returning.

Rons is the only place in Ames I take my car, always work to squeeze into their schedules. Took my car here first for a serpentine belt repair and was quoted $1600 for parts and labor. Took it somewhere else for a second opinion because that seemed extremely high and got the job done for $600. Wouldnt recommend this place, trying to overcharge for jobs.

I have always used dealer shops for repair but switched to Rons. Rons labor is much less expensive, they seem very honest and they can do warranty work just as well as the big dealer shops. I could have saved a bundle of money over the years if I had gone to Rons first. Anyway glad I found them.

A dealership quoted me almost $2250 to fix my cars front end and a oil leak. I knew they were trying to take advantage of me since I knew what was wrong and am mechanically inclined. Since I could not do this myself I took it to Rons and they quoted me $800 to fix everything and found some other minor recommended fixes that the dealership missed. Excellent service and very reasonable prices.

Ron and Lisa were great to work with. They contacted me to let me know how much the repair would cost and to let me know other items that needed attention. Ron advised on items that needed immediate attention and items that could wait. I appreciated his honest assessment of my vehicles needs.

Ive been going to Rons for about 25-30 years. He & his staff are the only ones I trust to work on my car. He has saved me a bundle of $$ over the years. For example, the dealer wanted about $400 to totally replace my rear wiper. Rons lubed it up for about $50 & got it working like new. I have had several instances where I had a problem that needed to be addressed quickly & Rons has always saved the day for me. I still drive to Rons after I moved to the west side & now drive about 30 miles to get there. And, it is worth every penny in gas to go to the only auto mechanic that I trust! Thanks Ron!

I live in Annapolis, MD but my parents live in Webster. My Dad has been going to Rons since 1990. Last fall I cracked my side view mirror. My mechanic quoted me an estimate of $450 to replace it. Rons Auto (Dan to be precise) found a mirror to replace the broken one and fit me in during my recent visit home. When the first mirror didnt work, he called to let me know the total would be $45 instead of $35...including labor! If my car can physically make it here, Id have all my repairs done at Rons. They are professional, honest and friendly.

My family and I been customers for many years with multiple vehicles. The customer service is outstanding, the time frames are always super quick, the work is always excellent. Very honest and always reliable!

We were broke down and had them work on the van , they charge double of cost of the parts. Wished I would have shopped around. Would have been $200 cheaper to of had the van towed back to my home town 82 miles away and had my own person thats certified do the work. If at the very least before they do the work question the price of everything they do make sure you dont except their price. You can find the parts considerable cheaper. They charge double of what they pay for parts. They even charge for charging a battery. No respectacle establishment does that. I am taking this as a hard lesson learn .even if you are broke down and need to get it fixed. Shop around and demand that they put the parts in that you want. Dont let them charge double for the price of their cost on parts. I wished I had .I dont mind a business making money off me, but only 25%more of their cost more.

Personally I think it is badly over priced. The prices are far from reasonable. Also getting impatient with customers is not what I would call being professional (which could be that they were having a bad day). with that being said, at the end of the day my car is fixed. so if either of the two wouldnt bother you, then ill recommend them.

Patricia said she doesnt think this business was absolutely excellent or the best but they were close. The staff was really nice. The parking lot is a little hard to get in and out of because it is tight and has gravel. She is going back to them.

The explanation on why I should change my transmission fluid was presented clearly. They take the time with their customers. They are reasonable in the price of repairs.
