Had to get a completely new transmission on my 2006 Lexus, they were done with the transmission exactly when they said, but couldnt get the car back to me right away due to an issue with the computer. While it was getting reprogrammed they kept me up to date and answered all my phone calls and questions immediately, making it very easy for me to plan around not having a car for a little bit longer.

These guys are seriously super great. I was in a pinch on my way up through Reno and they truly went the extra mile to diagnose my transmission needs.When it comes to auto repairs it’s always hit and miss, either the place is good but the workers are mean or the place sucks and everyone is too nice about it. 2011Subaru Outback: Continuously Variable TransmissionMy transmission appeared to have major failure (just past extended warranty mileage) while on road trip. Contacted transmission shops between California & Nevada. After speaking with a number of transmission shops & dealerships, General Transmission seemed to be the most knowledgeable outfit Id spoken with.They were very responsive & provided rapid service on major repairs that corresponded to the vehicles warning codes (torque converter & valve body issues). Car has been running smooth since repairs & the work may have resolved a strange power drop issue Ive always had when coming to a stop.Highly recommend.

Transmission rebuild for sierra 1500. Very kind to deal with, work finished before estimated date for a very reasonable price. Will comeback for future service needs.

These guys are great to deal with. Totally recommend them. Took my truck in when it was having issues with the 4 wheel drive, they inspected it and found nothing wrong, and not only didnt charge me, but the problem was solved, so it must have been something, but maybe a loose connection that got snugged up while they were checking it out.

From the moment I called general transmission they did everything in their power to help me immediately. I was stuck in nevada trying to get back to Texas with a blown transmission. Had my Audi serviced for transmission fluid and filter change a few days and so far so good on my transmission. I wasnt sure if they did the proper procedure per Audi specs but everything seems good so far. They did charge me more than what was originally quoted but OEM trans fluid is kind of expensive.

My wife dropped off her 2015 Scion tC after hours for a transmission service. Her car was not shifting like it used to. She got a call asking if we wanted a diagnostic. Not only were they honest they where friendly. No codes and after two test drives they determined just the service improved the vehicles shifting. The original estimate was a bit higher than what they actally charged us and we were happy about that. We will absolutely be bringing our other vehicles!

I took my older Ford diesel to General Transmission and they did a great job. They did a complete rebuild with some upgrades and my truck is much more enjoyable now. The people are knowledgeable, nice and had good referrals for other work Im having done to the truck.I will definitely use this shop again if I need drive-train work done.

General Transmission has rescued me so many times. They are the best and really know what they are doing.

My wife and I drove out to Sparks NV from Vacaville CA to look at a car to potentially buy. We took her car, and it drove amazingly, until we got to our destination. It broke down with transmission issues. We were snake to get it towed General Transmission to have then look at it. As much as I wanted to give them their business they were unfortunately unable to work on our car. When he reached out to me to let me know this, he already had a back up plan. He had it towed to the Dodge dealership and when I offered to pay for it he said “I just want to get your car on the road, so it’s okay”. I have emailed them twice and they didnt bother responding.Things are changing. I was contacted by Ricky Ross of General Transmission and he was horrified. Apparently my mail was going into their spam filter and they were not seeing it.We have since communicated and General is putting a transmission in my Jeep. The service, once we hooked up has been superb.I look forward to getting my Jeep back.Revision to my revision. They had the Jeep ready in just a couple days and it runs great. I just wish they worked on other things...like fixing my fence. 😁

General transmission rebuilt the transmission in my 01 Excursion last month. They did a great job with the upgrade. They are extremely friendly, explain everything they’re doing in detail, and they are meticulous and make sure that everything is working perfectly. They stand behind their work.

Based on the reviews here and other places, i opted for the Yelp quote option from this place for my 2007 Honda Element with a broken manual transmission with 62K miles. Upon receiving the quote from Peter A., and conducting additional research on this shop over the course of months, I saved money to pay for the repair, and then contacted General Transmission and spoke with Jennifer. They were willing to honor the quote i received earlier in the year and they towed the vehicle to their shop from Carson City free of charge despite having full AAA coverage. Jennifer and Richard (service manager) kept in contact with me and informed me of various issues they encountered when they did a tear down and waited for some parts from Honda and other vendors to get this Element back on the road. Anyway, after a couple of issues, the Element was put correctly back together and I was able to pick up the Element from the shop. When I picked it up, the Element was washed and semi-detailed and you could not tell without a discerning eye that the car was disassembled to some degree. All and all, a very pleasant experience with kudos to Jennifer and Richard as being truly outstanding General Transmission employees.Since receiving the Element, the car has shifted liked a dream and there were/are zero problems with the vehicle. I am very happy with my decision to have Peter and his team fix the Honda Element and I am glad to be able to give my business to a local shop with ties to the community. I wish Peter and his team the best. If I ever have any other transmission problems with any of my vehicles, I will not hesitate to work with Peter again. Nor will I have any problems referring friends and family to Peter for business. Finally, if this vehicle surprisingly ever has problems with the transmission due to the work that was done, there is no doubt that Peter and his team will work to make it right during the warranty period.

In January 2020, I had General Transmission of a Reno service my 10 year old suv transmission. After they completed the work, I then gave the vehicle to my daughter who lives in San Francisco. She drove it for about two months when the transmission failed due to lack of fluid. A local SF transmission shop could only find a slow leak from what they suggested was a non-tightened drain plug. I notified General Transmission of the situation and after their very brief review, assumed complete responsibility and proceeded to remedy the problem. They not only retrieved the vehicle from SF to their Reno shop, but ordered a new transmission replacement. Their commitment to this customers’ problem was outstanding and a testament to their excellent work warranty program. Thank you for standing behind your work and repairing my daughter’s first-owned car.

It was Saturday, and were going through Reno on the homeward bound leg of our vacation when the truck told me that something was wrong with the transmission. I went online and found General Transmission and was actually able to get on their website and explain my predicament as well as request an appointment. Even though they were closed, I soon received an email saying to come by early Monday morning. General Transmission Repair did such a good job on my truck. The guy Richard that I spoke with was very professional and honest. Came in for a trans fluid change and expected to be waiting a while. Ricky was working the front desk and offered to get me an Uber so I could relax at Starbucks but I was alright with waiting. Not only did they take half the time I thought they would but they charged me less than half another place quoted. Then when I realized I forgot to get my transfer case serviced Ricky (as busy as he was ordering parts, answering phones, talking to me) found an employee to do it. I 100% will be going back. One of the most trustworthy shops I been to.

Richard, Ricky and Jim were all super helpful in figuring out what was wrong with my car. I have a Camaro that is my baby so I would not trust it with just anyone and when it started making a horrible grinding noise I thought it was the clutch. Turns out it had nothing to do with the clutch or transmission so they figured out what it was and told me exactly how to fix it. They are awesome!

Amazing customer service!! We told them that we had a leak after our transmission was replaced. After looking at it they said that they could fix it but it would be a 2-3 hour wait. We expressed our urgency as we had to leave town. They started working on it right away and got it done in 30 minutes. Really kind people 👍🏼

We live in an RV and travel the country... Weve taken our Jeep to a number of service shops across the country and this was by far our best experience. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable, honest and really care about their customers. We knew something was up with the transmission as it was not running well and we bought it used so we were unsure of the problem. We took it in thinking it was in need of new fluid and were told that the transmission needed to be rebuilt. They knew we were without a car and offered to let us borrow their car, and when we declined they offered to drive us to get a rental car. We were updated on the progress of the five days of part ordering and work and they were done on time as promised. The work cost what we were quoted and we were asked to bring the Jeep back after we drove it for a couple weeks to have everything checked out. We highly recommend General Transmission!

After reading reviews from a number of local Reno/Sparks transmission shops I decided on General Transmission. All the good reviews seemed unreal. I am a retired ASE Master technician with reservations as to who works on my vehicles. I now know why all these people are so happy with their transmission repair. My 95 F-250 with 200,000 miles needed a transmission overhaul. A big Thank You to Pete and Richard. They allowed me to speak with the transmission builder and although as a mechanic I was never involved in transmission repair or rebuilding in my conversation with him he was very knowledgeable. They had the transmission completed in a very reasonable amount of time (5 work days) especially if you consider their work load. They returned my truck clean and in perfect running order. I would refer anyone I know to take their vehicle to General Transmission for transmission service and repair.

I have a F350 Ford Truck that the transmission over heated. Richard@ General Transmission really took care of my problem with the transmission and a problem with the engine. I brought my Tahoe in for a transmission overhaul last August, 2017. There were very fair on the price.Since it was not completed on time, they lowered the price to compensate me for the extra days I endured with the rental car cost. And this was during the labor day holiday.Truck runs great with no issues.They also got me an uber to take me to the rental car facility.These people understand what you are going through when your car needs repairs. These guys are Top Notch! Their service is stellar and FAST! We were traveling through Reno towards Montana when our transmission started failing and they made time for us within an hours notice. Since I had an engagement in Montana they went above and beyond to get us back on the road ASAP! They actually got a transmission and Gus installed it immediately! They got everything finished in about 24 hours and made sure we were good and got us on the road in time to meet our event. While traveling through Reno to vacation in the Redwoods our Tahoe’s warning light came on that the transmission was overheating.Since I was not from the area I got online and checked the reviews of a number of transmission shops in Reno and decided on General Transmission. I was so glad that I did. They were able to replace my transmission and get us back on the road that same day, saving us over $500.00 for a rental car to be able to continue our vacation.Their customer service was way above par. Pete, the owner, dropped me off down town so that I could enjoy the shops and movie theater while they fixed the car. Richard fixed a tire that I had picked up a large screw, and they did it for $400.00 cheaper than my mechanic back home would have done it for.I would highly recommend General Transmission. I wish I had more time to praise General Transmission, but Ill have to make this fairly short.I called them on a Wednesday and they had my 2005 Ford Explorer in their shop the following Monday. After they hired an Uber to come pick me up, I drove it home that Friday (with a new transmission).Not only were Ricky and the others in the office extremely professional and friendly, General Transmission did the job for 2/3 the cost of my local guy. They want a follow up appointment (which is coming up soon), so that really speaks to their level of commitment, especially how much they stand by their work.I live about an hour and a half away in California, but will absolutely be going back to them if/when I have Tx issues with my other truck. I have options closer to home, but why on earth would I risk it? Ill keep my gambling in the casinos.Thanks so much again, yall!

They were transparent with cost; they won’t gauge you, like some of General’s competitors.Ricky (the guy at the front desk who will check you in), is...exactly what you want when you enter a business. Friendly, genuine and reassuring. I was so impressed and pleased that he kept me in the loop of little surprises the mechanics would find. He’s AMAZING! I couldn’t ask for a better experience, for something that I dread. Everybody I encountered, friendly, courteous and actually genuinely willing to help people in the lobby. When I went to pickup my vehicle, the mechanic who worked on my pickup, happen to be in the lobby/office explained briefly, in non mechanic talk, some of the hurdles he encounter. I SO APPRECIATED THAT!! I’m a nurse, not a mechanic. (I’ve had mechanics in the past, talk mechanic to me. When I asked them to break it down so I could understand, they dumbed it down to the level of insulting, patronizing and all around rude).Not that I would ever want to go to a mechanic, but if something goes wrong, I will check to see if General can do it. I got my Saturn for my 16th birthday and have had it since, I’ve fixed so many things on it that when it came to my transmission, I was terrified. I recently moved to Reno and was afraid I would get ripped off by a shop for the repair or the price of it, so one of my colleagues mentioned General Transmission as her hubby works there and wow, I can’t tell you how great of an experience I’ve had with them.From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with respect and treated with dignity, where before at other shops I had to deal with snippy, rude workers that talked down to me for being a young woman. The whole time I was talking with Richard about the issues with my car, he made sure to hear every single one of my concerns and reassured me several times over that they will do everything they can to bring my car back to a safe driving condition.They replaced my old worn motor mounts, the entire valve body and my starter, repairs that should’ve cost me an arm and a leg but they were very reasonable. I paid in full upon pickup but was offered a payment plan in the event I couldn’t pay the full amount.I’m so grateful to the crew at General Transmission for making my baby safe and drivable again!
