I went in for a Japanese thermal reconditioning treatment for my virgin curly auburn hair because even after 20 years and trying multiple products I still couldn’t get my curls to look good. I was there for around 5-6 hours (I have a lot of hair) and the result is amazing! It dries straight after a shower!!! I can just wake up now and brush my hair and I’d be set! That has never been possible for me before. Niki and Madelyn are the best!

Searched for weeks to find a salon offering perms and found a stylist at Chameleon. She seemed to be experienced.I am a student who lives far from the salon, and it cost me $50 round trip to get to the salon, a price I was willing to pay. The perm was exorbitantly expensive ($170), but I agreed to the price as she seemed to know what she was doing.Upon arriving to the salon, she told me that the reference images I had sent were not real perms, which was not true. She suggested I opt for two different sized rods. I was visibly disappointed, but trusted her professional opinion.To make a long story short, I have not stopped crying since my service three days ago. I had healthy, thick hair that is now completely breaking, dry and damaged, with a combination of straight hair and ringlets. I have clusters of curls around my temples, on the left side by my ears and my hair is straight and frizzy everywhere else.she was initially kind, but when I politely told her about the failed perm, she turned defensive.She told me that she stood by her work, and insisted my hair should be cut or subjected to the perm chemicals again, requiring me to spend another $50 to commute to the salon and re-damage my hair.I politely asked for a partial refund considering the horrible experience and considerable damage that I will now have to live with for over a year, and the stylist proceeded to fight with me over message for 2 days, involving the manager. Upon calling the salon and speaking to the manager, noticeably distressed, the manager was rude, impatient and coldly told me that I had agreed to the results of my perm and there was no damage, a lie. I sent photos of my damaged hair, and the management simply told me that they do not offer refunds. This business is corrupt, unwilling to admit guilt and not looking out for the happiness and well being of their customers.

Amazing experience at this salon. It was my first visit to get my hair done since before Covid and they took the time and care to be clean and follow guidelines, while still providing an excellent service! Bri worked miracles on my hair and I will definitely be back.

If you have bipoc spiral curly hair find an advanced deva curl stylist elsewhere. Hannah is currently a deva inspired stylist and unable to work with this hair type. She cut interfering the curl pattern and ended up with pyramid hair shapes. Hair coloring was uneven and confusing. You are left alone under the dryer or with foils for longer then necessary. Salon is clean and Hannah is friendly in person. Communication during services is poor and she stops responding if you need a haircut adjustment.

I had been getting my hair straightened for years when my stylist decided to retire. I had no idea where to go. I tried a gal in NW and 6hrs and 800 bucks later, I had a brillo pad disaster sitting atop my head. I was shell-shocked and wondered if I would ever be able to find another place to go. Fast-forward 3 years to March of this year. I got on line and came across Chameleon Salon. I looked at the reviews and they were fantastic. Then I saw that before I could schedule a japanese straightening, I had to have a consultation with Madelyn. I was nervous after my previous experience but from the minute I met Madelyn, I knew it was a GO! I had tried a keratin smoothing treatment that was a disappointment. She asked me to find out the product the stylist used so she could call the manufacturer of the japanese straightening product she used to see if there would be a problem - Bonus #1! Then she told me that not only had she been using the product for awhile with great results, she was in regular contact with the manufacturer asking questions, getting updates etc. Bonus #2! She quoted me time and price and then shared that she and her work wife and bestie Nicole would be doing my hair at the same time - both at once to ensure equal processing time. Bonus #3! Madelyn was so genuine, so real - Bonus #4!I arrived today and met Nicole. What a gem! The two of them together were the Dynamic Duo! They were so friendly, so funny, so REAL, and SOOOOOOO professional! Midway through, I wanted to adopt them! They are clearly educated, talented, and care about doing right by the customer. My straight hair is gorgeous. I felt like a rock star having them both work on my hair at the same time - kind of fun! AND, they came in under the time and price I was quoted. Who DOES that anymore? Honest to the core, real to the core and a pure delight! Cant wait to go back in August for another round of Madelyn and Nicole! =D

Always a positive experience. Everyone is so friendly and they do a fabulous job. Parking is limited but thats more of a Portland problem than it is the salons.

I at one time enjoyed this salon and its atmosphere. This was in fact, my 3rd visit back and I brought along my daughter as well. The stylist i had was great! She wasnt a part of the crowd of majority of stylists that inhabit this cute pink and black themed salon. It was like walking into high school all over again, it was horrible. Sneering judgmental looks and body language along with whispers. One of the gals in the crowd began her whisper game as I was getting my hair washed and within just a few feet from me. Like hello, people have peripheral vision, ya know?! I left that day feeling icky inside and I had not walked in feeling this way. The atmosphere is horrific with the group of gals that buddy together. I will NEVER go back again! Not to mention, she quoted a price of $250 for coloring my daughters hair! When I mentioned I just had my other daughter hair colored who has DOUBLE the amount of hair as this one for $160 she thought a moment and matched that price. Not only did they insult me but in a sense had no issue in attempting to rip me off as well. Steer clear people! Not a nice crowd going on here

I love getting my hair done here by Cam... I found him while I was going to school in Portland and have been going to him since, even though I live 45 minutes away. My hair is thick, coarse, and curly and can be hard to manage... but Cam is always up to the task and has been the first hairdresser to truly understand my hair.

Nicole at Chameleon Salon is MAGIC. She does everything from stellar dimensional blondes (my actual hair) to the rainbow unicorn hair of my someday dreams. She is fast, professional, super down-to-earth, and just really good at color (I got compliments with 10 weeks of grow-out). She has also helped me figure out the best cut and style to finally rock my natural curl pattern. I love her so much that even after I moved 50 miles away, I still drive to go see her! The salon itself is also lovely, with a great business model to make sure a diversity of people feel welcome and comfortable for a great day at the salon.

Madelyn is a hair color magician. I walked in with a business card and cupcakes, and this wizard color matched my hair to my business card. This last time, I came in with faded, twice bleached, damaged hair, and she managed to get my to a teal ombre that I can ride out until it fades further, and somehow kept my hair from melting off my head. I trust very few people to actually color my hair, and shes at the top of the list.

Kami took great care of my hair when transitioning to a lighter color. She made sure I was comfortable and answered all my questions about everything I need to know about hair. Thank you for making me feel prettier kami! You the bomb!

This was my first experience with a salon. As a kid and young adult we either did hair at home or not at all (grandma was a hair dresser.) Being a total novice, I surprised Brianna by showing up with a lot of length to turn into magical mermaid colors. Because of the extra hair, she cautioned me it would take more time and product, and thus cost a bit more for the whole process. I very much appreciate the courtesy of this and we talked about what could be done to stay within my budget.Brianna and Madelyn both made me feel at home and confident I would walk out with a magical head of hair.Its been a week already and I still love it! There are dimensions, its soft, and the blending of blue and purple is flawless.Both patrons and staff were warm and friendly and the salon reminds me of an updated (cooler) version of my grandmothers.

Highly recommend Chameleon Salon to everyone in Portland! Nicole really is a hair goddess!! She is amazing! Im not one to dye my hair or take big risks so I was a little hesitant when I decided to completely change my look from brunette to blonde, but I am so glad that I chose this salon! The owner Madelyn is very welcoming and the salon has an amazing atmosphere and very cute decor. They really care about their clients and listen to exactly what you want done. Nicole will be the only one doing my hair from now on!

I went to Nicole back in May 2017 for hair and makeup for a friends wedding. I absolutely loved what she did and got so many compliments on my hair that I decided to see Nicole as a stylist. Shes cut my hair and Ive gotten waxing services too. I love how easy it is to schedule with Nicole and how conveniently located they are.

Japanese Relaxer processI commute for two hours for services at Chameleon Salon and have never once been delayed nor disappointed in their very capable hands. Madelyn is surrounded by Pro, Experienced Stylists who continually support my Trust and Appreciation. This specific technique involved timing and dual stylists at the same time for several hours. Coordination was obviously paramount, and she and Nicole were in sync and total collaboration at every turn. With a wealth of false claims and apologies out there, it is Gratifying to have Chameleon at The Top of my list. Thankyou Madelyn!After an entire year of grow out (6+ inches) I scheduled an appointment with Madelyn and Nicole for another relaxer process. They continued to live up to their reputations and my own expectation besides. Chameleon Salon is the Only place I would trust with this sophisticated chemical process. Complications could arise in lesser hands, but its usually the ladies wholl be aware of this. Both the salon experience and result has been first rate, and I am a bonafide Fan.Even a couple of gym jocks had to say it looked good. Dude!

Ive been to Chameleon several times, Im always very happy with what I go in for (haircut, massage... see below), but the experience of being in the hair salon is less than desirable.While I was waiting for my recent haircut, the blond girl at the counter was going on and on (to the owner, no less) about her roommate and how she never takes out the trash or helps clean, Literally while a third stylist WAS CASHING OUT ANOTHER CLIENT no more than 2 feet away, Talk about RUDE!! (note that the bathroom trash at the salon was overflowing as she yapped away). Then I had to listen to her the entire duration of my haircut! So beyond unprofessional... keep your catty BS out of work, especially when there are customers present, jeez.....All that said, I highly recommend Angelee for massage, shes brilliant with her hands!! (and hot stones, fantastic!). Mara also does wonders for my short curly hair... but I think Ill wait until Mara opens her new shop before I get my next haircut. (at least for the massage youre in a private room!)

Brianna is a total badass. Amazing with color and cuts, and works with both punk rock looks and more conservative clients as well.

First time getting a wax, I was very nervous but Sara was FANTASTIC! She was very reassuring, informative, and comforting. She explained all the what/how/whys of every step. She was very considerate of my comfort level and didnt make me feel awkward. Will be going back for sure and would recommend her to any of my friends. I get my hair done somewhere else so I cant comment on the other services but when I checked the reviews prior to my appt I had not seen as many mentioning waxing experiences so I thought I would write one for anyone planning to check it out.

Came to Cameleon Salon with a at home bleached/colored attempt NIGHTMARE! Picture your worst hair day ever, that was my hair. So I was looking online for a salon that did color correction and Cameleon was listed. It was super close to my house, so I was able to book a same day consult witch was awesome! Nicole is the stylist that did my hair and let me just say she is a miracle worker no exaggerations. She is extremely skilled at what she does. She was honest and up front about everything involved, and kept me in the loop every step of the way. The final results are nothing short of AMAZING! The ending results? I almost cried, it was just that beautiful! I will be going to her now forever and I would recommend her to anyone looking for quality work.

The chameleon salon is by-far one of the loveliest salons ive been to! My cousin Shannon Stanwood works there and she did very great on my hair, i had course thick long hair and she thinned it, shortend it, and my hair looks like Marilyn Monroes hair. they have a very nice atmosphere and they play fairly well songs, And the staff are people who will actually listen to you. They have many hairstyle choices and they have really great coloring and styling products. 5/5 definitely.

Edited to fit Googles character limit.Horrible experience, gave them every chance to resolve... yet here I am. Maybe its better this way, if I can help one person avoid what Im going through now.tl:dr - MY HAIR IS RUINED AND BREAKING OFF. ITS SO OVERPROCESSED IT LOOKS GREY UNLESS DIRECT LIGHT IS SHINED ON IT, ROOTS YELLOW. I GAVE THEM A CHANCE TO FIX, PAYING FOR PRODUCT, STUPIDLY GAVE 20% TIP SINCE I TIP ON AUTOPILOT, AND AM NOW OUT 10+ HOURS OF MY LIFE AND OVER $400I had been growing my hair for 4-5 years, it was down to my butt. I was waiting for a few more greys to come in, then I had planned to go blonde. There was about 2 inches at the end that had been color treated in the past, the rest was virgin hair.I came across Chameleon Salon as it is close to where I live. I wanted a change, so the name spoke to me- their social media had tons of pics of extreme colored hair, which I took as they must be color experts. In retrospect, I didnt see much blonde, that should have been a red flag maybe.On their website they have a Boho Blonde package as follows:A quick google search of boho blonde shows a very clear style, like a messy platinum blonde with darker roots. My ideal color would be golden platinum, and I liked the idea of the slightly grown out look, with shine and dimension.I made the appointment online, assuming (whoops) that in choosing the Boho-Blonde package I would be assigned an appropriate colorist.I was assigned Hannah, who apparently is their curly hair specialist. She pushed Deva curl products so hard Im wondering if they are an MLM? Either that or she missed her calling as a used car salesman. This should have been another red flag.I was confused as I wasnt there for curly hair - my hair does have a natural wave, but especially when long its straight. Ive always been told the individual hairs are thin, but theres lots of them. My natural hair is very healthy and strong. I was getting some tangles at the ends, as I mention I still had about 2 inches from 4-5 years ago that had been color treated.She cut those off immediately, which was fine. She then informed me that people who choose the Boho Blonde package dont know what they want and told me she could do a different approach to get me MORE blonde, since my goal was ultimately a golden platinum blonde.I was thrilled at that, and I know from the past my hair lifts well, so she did some calculations and told me this new method she wanted to do would cost me $300 ($50 more than the Boho package). I was expecting and willing to pay top dollar for going blonde, so I agreed.For the sake of brevity - what I ended up with was a 5-6 hour service that was just all over highlights. She kept saying 15 more minutes and then would disappear for an hour.She started with the lengths, and ended up needing to wash out the product while the roots finished processing. That concerned me a little bit but I wasnt too worried yet.When she showed me how much the ends had lifted, I was horrified. What I saw was clear hair fibers that had been so overprocessed there was no color left.Not only that, there was a ton of my natural dark brown left. Huh?!At this point Im already going into shock, even though I know blonde can look darker when wet. That wasnt the case here.She now decides that actually she should chop off an additional 6 inches of my hair that is now damaged. Ok, whatever, that still leaves me with hair past my shoulders.Now, this isnt even the part that concerns me the most, but she literally put my hair in a ponytail with one hand, and chopped off the length with the other. She then dismissively waves it away and tells me shell shape it up when dry (she never did).Running out of space to detail my nightmare.

This was my first time at this salon, tried it based on good reviews.I had my eyebrows waxed. I normally have very bushy eyebrows and my eyebrows are no longer symmetrical....one looks fine, the other is too thin in the middle, and too high, and some hair was left below the brow.... By the time she asked me how it looked it was too late, the damage was already done. At that point I decided it was better to leave with one normal brow than 2 matching mangled brows.If someone cannot do brow waxing properly, then they shouldnt offer it. There is a reason I dont wax my own brows, although in this case I might have been better off if I had tried.

The stylists at Chameleon are funky, friendly, and talented!! The salon also has a wonderful artistic vibe and energy. I have only received services from BB, but would gladly see any of the other stylists as well! The vivids work they do is well worth the price and wait for appointments. Definitely book ahead of time!!
