Jasmine and Lauren are amazing! I came by to see the apartments and fell in love. Unfortunately they had no units available but Jasmine took my number and called immediately as something came open when I needed to move. I got my keys 2 weeks in advance before I closed on the sale of my house. I know I bugged her so much with questions until I moved in, but she exuded so much patience and helped me with all my needs. I absolutely love the apartment and amenities and what gives this place 5 stars is the staff! There’s so many shops around the area and I love the apartment! I saw reviews that if you were on the street side it was so noisy but I feel like my walls are sound proof because I hear minimal noise. Plus the amenities are awesome! Optimal location and beautifully well kept place. Plus the staff, Jasmine, Lauren, and Kaitland are the best I’ve seen!!!! You are missing out if you don’t rent here!!!!

I stayed here for a year. I was new to Norfolk so it was a great introduction to the city. Everyone in the office was great, management did change towards the end of my lease but it seemed to be a positive change. I do wish the apartments had more up to date features and appliances, other than that everything was great.

I’ve been at 201 twenty one for about 6 months now and I can’t find a single complaint. To address the previous (and outdated) reviews, they have security every night for the parking garage and there has been no issues. The complex itself is massive equipped with a decent gym (for an apartment), a pool, theater room, lounge with pool tables and TVs, business center, and conference room. The apartments themselves have nice appliances and spacious. Especially the ones with a den which is a nice feature. The maintenance in the building is very quick to fix any issues you may have and the property managers are amazing. I love the staff there and they are always so understanding and make sure your living standards are met. I definitely recommend renting from this place and while you’re at it, mention my name on tour that I referred you! Thanks!

Currently living here. The worst place anyone could live at. Been living here for almost a year. Just got my car broken into (along with several other cars). They say it’s a “safe and secured” place. Wrong. Garage doors do not work. Homeless always standing around in first floor parking and tried getting into the apartment building. They’re out to get your money. Like I said, got our car broken into and they won’t do anything about but to say “we’re hiring security” after so many car break ins and damages they finally decide to get security. Do not waste your time trying to look into living here. The area is nice, restaurants from a walking distance and what not but NOT WORTH IT.

We have lived here for over a year. This is by far the best living situation we have ever had. The building is a historic one, with a courtyard that feels far away from street noise. Our apartment is very quiet, its rare for us to hear any outside noise. The front office staff is friendly and professional. They address concerns promptly. The maintenance staff is excellent, and are incredibly prompt as well - often a small non-priority issue will be fixed within hours after I report it. The building itself has retail tenants - a spa, a pharmacy, Sweetfrog, Five Guys, and Koshi - the best sushi in the area.

The elevators the corridor floors very clean the only apartment with a smart home like system and free security system as well. Stores across the street cleaners everything you will need is on the same street!

I have lived here for three years now (retired and downsized from the home I owned for years in a nearby neighborhood). I have nothing but praise for the management and the maintenance staff. Any problem I have had -- which have been few and far between -- has received an immediate (I mean IMMEDIATE) response. And the office staff has been consistently personable -- upbeat and eager to meet any needs I might have. Its always a pleasure to deal with them personally -- picking up a large delivery package , that sort of thing. Im sorry that anyone else on this ratings thread had unpleasant experiences here. I can only speak for myself, and I have nothing but praise -- for the physical apartment and amenities, which are top-quality, and for the staff, which is the same.

Had a terrible experience with the management and leasing office. The apartments are nice, but not worth the hassle. Id recommend East Beach Marina Apartments, or several other communities instead. The management is NOT military friendly.

My experience at 201 Twenty One was pretty good.Pros:It’s in a great spot for food and bars in walking distance.Amenities are nice and well kept.THE OFFICE STAFF IS AWESOME!Cons:Garage is weird and sucks driving up and down steep hills.Appliances are old and broken.Train is loud all through the nights if your on the wrong side.Overall my stay here was good. The best thing I can say is that the staff (Natasha & April) is attentive to needs and show respect to their customers. As to thefts as long as the gate is working and security you will be fine just make sure you don’t leave anything in your car.

The location is in a gentrified area of Ghent which has a lot to offer for young professionals..along with the price tag. I love there for about 13 months and had some pretty significant issues along with a change in management. Short story, look elsewhere but if you decide to move here, watch your finances like a hawk and keep a record of everything.1. (-) Auto-pay issues with the change of management and late fees when their system doesnt pull out payment. (they waived the first with the transition, but after fixing the issue, the following month the Auto-pay failed again and their policy was only one late fee could be waived, despite having a record of my previous visit to resolve the issue.2. (-) I had a sewage back up issue from another tenant that affected the master shower. I hold 201 partially responsible for the issue not being resolved the same day when it was reported around 3-4pm. Wholly unsatisfactory that the 3rd party plumber didnt get back to 201 and 201 failed to rapidly adjudicate.3. (+) Microwave and Garbage disposal failed but were addressed and repaired promptly. Window blind bracket broke and fell but was fixed the next day.4. (-) A/C issue addressed more than 3 times. Broken for 4-5 months (happily not throughout the whole summer), condensation flooded my closest TWICE, dry cleaning never paid by management due to management changeover. AND during that entire time, my electric bill was double that of other residents due to the condensation drain pump kicking on every 2 minutes and running for 30 seconds.5. (-) The move in checklist of issues/discrepancies were fixed per an e-mail but in actuality no visit occurred and even once re-addressed, all but 1 were still never fixed. Master closet light, loose door mechanism, and damaged/bent window screens.6. FOB issues occurred occasionally preventing entrance to the building.7. Train rolls through nearby and blares their horn every night and despite having an inner apartment, still pierces through the walls.8. Side entrances do not get cleaned frequently.9. It was not made clear that residents were unable to get 2 covered garage parking spaces because they lack the spaces. (I believe this may have been adjudicated with new management). The secure parking roll-up gate and trash chute was broken/clogged much of the year.10. Resident friends had multiple issues with move out inspections being done in shady ways holding the resident liable after being told it was fine.11. Management did not honor a referral program of a fellow resident, where each referral granted a free month of rent. (as far as I know, she never received a single month free despite having 6 referrals).12. Very organized and well laid out online community to reserve amenities, pay bills, and put in trouble calls for issues.13. Nice BBQ area, fire pit, lap pool (no hot tub), nice pool tables, nice theater with cable (hardly used), monthly events for residents, secure mail, secure building, somewhat secure parking structure (although I know some people had issues with theft). Possibly due to a small homeless community along the back side of the building on 22nd street around the Salvation Army building.14. Discussions on moving out were conducted 3-4 days prior to the window closing for a military clause invocation but was not solidified with the paperwork and they didnt budge because it was black and white, my fault but no considerations given for the weekend and holiday.

Terrible, office management keeps certain lease details from you at signing. I currently live here now, so I’m a current tenant giving a heads up. They’re just out for your money and act like they genuinely care about situations.

Edit (reply): Thank you for responding so quickly. May I ask who to speak with about the unfair charges? I emailed Natosha from the office to provide me a copy of the contract that states where $40 is charged per room for leftover soap and a roll of toilet paper, she only told me to look for it in the notice to vacate without sending me a copy of it. Paperwork had likely been lost during the move but I would still like to review the terms of trash removal, rather than be so readily dismissed.*****************Renters beware. I’ve lived here for almost four years. The apartment complex changed management about a year ago. Although the place had been repainted and became more decorated, it all comes at a cost. The area is not the safest for the rent they ask for. My car had been broken into and stolen while parked on Llewelyn street.I don’t often leave reviews but I feel the need to do so in this situation. I moved out recently and they charged exorbitantly for the clean up fees. After a $500 deposit, I was only left with about $150 returned to me. I was agreeable to the $250 cleanup fee but on top of that they felt the need to further charge $80 for throwing out some leftover toilet paper, soap and cleaning supplies I left for their use.Lesson learned. This apartment complex had quite a number of bad reviews even before I moved in. Should have paid attention to them.

Maintenance crew is decent (when you can finally schedule an appointment with them) but everything about the rest of the staff at 201 is horrible. They definitely do not work with your work schedule (for packages, for signing admin, for moving in/out, etc) and although they do keep a professional presence they are some of the rudest people that Ive met since Ive moved here (specifically Melissa and Bri). They want your money, especially when youre ready to move out of the overpriced place. All of their special events are a waste of time and rent money, and its almost impossible to make them if you have a job. The facility is nice, but its not worth the trouble considering the service that you should expect to get with the price.

Constant auto break-ins and other criminal activity in this place. The building is nice but it attracts lots of crimes. I would avoid this place as its only 2 block away from a pretty bad section of Norfolk.

I have recently moved in here, so I will be updating my review throughout my lease. I hope that you ill be more helpful than either writing a review in the honeymoon phase, or just at move out.My initial review is:Pros:- Great Location. Tons of restaurants, and bars all wishing walking distance.- Very helpful staff: Tosha was very helpful in setting up our lease, and did an amazing job of giving us a tour, and talking about the area. She made the decision easy for us :)- Fun amenities. Decent gym, cool putting green, and pool area.- Nice Floorplan- Fun community- No breed restrictions. Not every dog that is mixed with a pitbull is a bad dog. It is great to be in a location that acknowledges that :)Cons:- Key System. It is essentially a key fob that is used to get into your house as well as the whole building. Every door locks behind you, and youre screwed if you forget the key. They will come and let you in, but it is on their time (e.g. 20+ minutes at least), and it will cost you $100. I didnt think it would be a problem until I forgot my key once and realized it was a costly mistake right when the door closed and my girlfriend and dogs were left waiting on maintenance for our $100 bill.- Maintenance times. Maintenance seems to be busy and attentive to the buildings needs. We have, however, been waiting on repairs and touch ups from our initial inspection for 3 months. Not life altering problems, but issues with the toilet flushing, and the doors be aligned correctly so that they close. We havent been spoken to, or given a timeline on when someone will come to look. Its unfortunate, but we will just have to remind maintenance or the office team.- The garages are typical tight parking for a garage. It is assigned however, and there are very much better and worst spots. If a jerk parks poorly, you are pretty much screwed.Update: We have found out there are only 10 guest spots total for the building. They are often filled with junkers so you will most like have less available. We currently have someone parked in our spot, no guest spots in the mean time, and no building number to contact. We are now stuck spending our Friday afternoon waiting on a tow truck to come tow a car that is in our spot so that we don’t get towed parking on the bottom floor. All in all while living there, a lot frustrated us. It is a tight knit community however and we mad a lot of great friends. The amenities are great as well.

First off, I want to say that this is an honest review. Our lease is signed and we will be moving in this week so you can consider us new residents. So I guess we can highlight the negatives before the positives.Negatives: The application process went by smoothly. But once the application fee and down payment was made, it has been as if our original concerns have been put on the backburner. From our experience, I can say that they lack in communication. For example. In our unit, the master bathroom door has a hole in it. The unit is unique in design, so the door actually takes up space because there is also a pillar in the master bedroom. Anyhow it would be best to put a barn door, bifold, trifold, or something of the sort. We related the message and the trend has been well be in contact with you/call you back with an update. They never call back, at least in our case. So when you do call them back for an update on whatever situation that you have, which gets pretty irritating after a while, you they may or may not have an answer. In our case, they told us, that there wasnt enough room for assembly of the door that we referenced. But we were told that we could do the renovation, but we must assemble it back to how it was originally. To go from there is no room to do it, but you can do it, doesnt register well. Especially since they are already doing renovations to other units. There was also damage to the countertop; still no word. The issue at hand is the lack of effort in accommodation and communication.Positives: Ill give them 2.5-3 stars solely because of their amenities and variation in floor plans. Hands down the best Ive seen so far and weve looked at a few complexes to say the least. The gym makes me smile, location is within walking distance of everything on the Ghent strip, mini putting course, basically everything that you see on the site is up to par, not to mention a very secure area with key fiosk on entry and parking garage.Hopefully by the time our long term lease is up we will have laundry list of positives. But as of now these have been our concerns.
