Ive rented my last from Hertz. Professionally or for leisure. In my latest (and last) case, I was unable to return the vehicle to the original location due to an injury while traveling. When I contacted them regarding the need to return it at a major airport, their offshore agents THREATENED me with a bad record with Hertz if I did AND that they be billing me 3x as much for mileage...like I could help it or wanted to buy a last minute plane ticket. Not sure if/how to dispute it but BEWARE their contract never mentions just how badly they will try to rip you off should something unfortunate like this happen to you...zero customer service or empathy but hey long live corporate profit!

I’d like to send BIG thank you to this amazing gentleman Caleb who was helping us out with our rental today. Not only did he exceed our expectations but also provided the best customer service possible and it was absolutely above and beyond. You rarely see that nowadays. With all the issues we faced by booking thru 3rd party app, he made sure to resolve them in no time and make us happy. The most pleasant experience I’ve had in years. I used the Hertz website to book my car. I got a very nice car in the class that I ordered for a reasonable price, so Im very satisfied. Upon arriving, I was asked about the usual up sales, but they were not overly aggressive about it. There was also just a short wait between my arrival and when I got my car, so I really appreciated that... I dont rent often, but in the past, I always used Enterprise. This time, I got a lot more for the money using the Hertz website. So, I will be checking their website first from now on. I highly recommend this service.

Not the place to go if you need to be on the road quickly. At pick up first car I was given had a display that wasn’t working. The gentleman working tried to fix it himself but then agreed to swap me to another car. He said the only one had a slow leak in the tire but then said he had a car that was just returned and needed to be cleaned quickly.I took that and it had some dents to the outside that were noted. By the time he remembered to take the inside pics of the car I had loaded my luggage into it and he said it was ok to leave it. (I should have move it anyway in hindsight so they had the pics). Left an hour and a half later than planned due to that and having to find alternative parking as you cannot park there.Car ran wonderfully- no issues.Drop off took 30 minutes of waiting and a different gentleman helped me. He was the only one there and the phone was ringing off the hook along with customers coming in. I imagine he was a bit tired but he was not friendly and seemed to not believe me that the car had come to me with damage. I returned that car cleaner than I got it and felt a bit put out after that wait that I got the third degree.Double check the car just in case before you leave - I wish I had but was running so late that I didn’t.Edit to add in reply to your response: not sure how other people feel but getting the same copy and paste reply I see others have gotten doesn’t fill me with confidence. Your fleet needs updating and you need to work with that location on improving.

Due to weather the day before, everyone flying into a few other cities ended up be diverted to Kansas City, which caused a shortage of cars/no cars in and around Kansas City. Through the national on-line reservation and me not aware of the lack of cars, Hertz took my reservation anyway saying this Hertz store had cars available......and they didnt.When I arrived, Deborah Michelle Moore said she tried to get a hold of me to let me know there were no cars available, but due to different phone issues, was not able to.Deborah Michelle tried everything to find me a car for a couple of hours.She finally said she found a car and it will be ready in 10 mins. Not only was it ready, it was an upgrade, which I actually needed.She went way out of her way to help me. It was very refreshing to get this type of service to help someone who would have been stranded!Kudos to Deborah Michelle!!!Thank you and I will pass your kindness forward to others.Bob Thompson

Recently had a long term rental. The rental agreement was easily extendable on a week by week basis. The AAA or roadside support staffers were great as well. Will continue to rent from Hertz for business trips & emergencies. I highly recommend Hertz in North KC.

No! Do NOT use this place. I payed in full and I did it MONTHS in advance for a mini van to be told that they don’t necessarily “hold” your reservation for you. I got a tiny little SUV and we barely made it bc of seating. Car seats almost didn’t all fit.. Do they expect me to leave a child at home?! There is a reason I booked and payed in full so far in advance! Plus we didn’t find out til the day of. The day before our trip my husband gets a call that if he doesn’t mind we may need to get it from the airport location instead bc they don’t know if they have a driver available to bring it to the closer location. Since the airport isn’t far we said that was fine. The next day comes and we get a call 1 hour before we need to pick it up to leave and we are told they don’t have one at all and neither do any of the surrounding locations! Check out was also a pain and a very very slow process though the man we dealt with there wasn’t bad. Just slow. I was also upset that they charge a $500 deposit and don’t tell you about it until last minute.. The vehicle we got was small and didn’t have the hertz sticker seal. You could tell they must have just got it back in bc it wasn’t cleaned before we got it. Also the driver window would randomly stick shut!

I have used rental cars twice from this location, thru my auto insurance. The staff and transfer drivers have been professional and very helpful. The rental cars have been well working and clean. The car delivery and pickup service has been extremely helpful and well worth it. I would use Hertz again if I needed to and would recommend it to others.

Reserved and prepaid for a mid size sedan on 5/16. Went to pickup the rental on 5/29 and was told they were out of vehicles. I asked if they would receive some returns before closing time and they said possibly. So I did a little shopping and came back 20 min before closing and ended up getting a Chevrolet Spark (economy class) that needed an oil change. I asked the staff at the location, since I prepaid for a mid size sedan and Im getting an economy, do I get a partial refund for the price difference. They told me they cant do it, however, I can call the customer relations/billing 1-800 number, on the Hertz brochure, when I return the vehicle and they will be able to refund me for the price difference.Fast forward to 6/1 when I returned the vehicle. I call Customer Relations and they tell me, we cannot give you a refund because the staff at the location shouldve done it when they rented the car to you. I tell them the Hertz Gladstone staff told me they couldnt do it when I rented the vehicle and to call Customer Relations when I returned the vehicle. They tell me no, thats incorrect. So I ask, since Hertz made the mistake, I still get my partial refund, correct? They tell me no, Im sorry, we cant help you or provide any partial refunds. You rented the vehicle so it was your fault per the contract.Ive escalated this to Senior Mgmt at Hertz, however, Im sure they could care less. I also have a case number which I know will probably go nowhere. Hertz customer service is absolutely ridiculous knowing they overcharged me but arent willing to correct it. I rent from Hertz numerous times per year and have a membership, however, I will now be switching to Enterprise or Budget, who are also located in Gladstone.**Update 6/15/2021** - Reached out to them as they requested. Its been 7 days now and no response. Also, no response from Senior Management when I reached out to them 3 times over the course of 2 weeks.A case number was created and Customer Service told me since I reserved the vehicle through a 3rd party travel site, they cannot help me and closed my case. When I told them I didnt use a 3rd party travel site, I reserved through the actual Hertz website, they stopped responding.Failure all on levels. The Hertz location failed, Customer Service failed, and Senior Management failed. The worst customer service I have ever experienced in my life. They know they overcharged me and their resolution is to just ignore the customer. Thats ok, Karma will get you in the end.**Update 6/25/2021** Received call & email from Hertz. They apologized and have resolved my issue. As such, Im upping my rating from 1 star to 4.

Awful! Beware and stay away! I made a reservation 2 weeks ago and received confirmation that everything was on track for my pick up at 2:00pm. I called the office at 8:00 AM and asked if I could pick the car up early. They confirmed, yes, I could pick it up around 10:00am. When I got to the office, they told me the car was not ready and would not be available at all. Then, I had to call the billing department to get a refund and avoid the $200 cancellation fee. Thats right! They were going to charge me $200 for canceling a reservation that THEY could not fulfill. This is the first and last time I try to use Hertz.

I rated 1 stars because the on-line booking allows a reservation although the location is booked solid. Call first, if not, a person will waste a trip there. The person at the desk is left to disseminate that info. How rude is that of the company to drop on a first person contact. ? The CEO of Hertz should shoulder that.We are all enduring trying times, but, to leave that 1st person to suffer with excuses is unacceptable. Hertz is joined by all competitors. Systems issues?

They know how to take the reservation. And get paid for the reservation. But not HOLD the reservation. I had pre-paid for a Grand Cherokee or similar. Knowing that I had already paid for the vehicle, I wasnt worried about picking it up right at the start time just planned to do it when it was convenient for me. When I arrived a couple hours after start time, they told me they had sent my car out with another renter and that I should have called. My response - you should have called me before giving away my paid for vehicle. They had no other SUVs to offer me. So was forced to take a minivan.

Priceline makes it look like you can rent a car with no credit card - just a debit for the deposit and it’s absolutely not that easy they want to run credit checks and take $500 off your debit card for a deposit, they want 19 different forms of iD, your first born and 12 other things . Just rent a car from Enterprise!

Didnt tell me they would be closed on Saturday when I was supposed to return the car due to the virus. They they didnt make a comment on my rental agreement or tell me in person. The day of I had to return I called a near by hertz even to talk to someone and they said just to do the quick return and deposit the key. 3 days later I get an automated message say I didnt return it. Called, they took my information and put me on hold. They hung up. I tried calling back but they didnt answer. Still waiting for a phone call.

We got a car through Hertz on an insurance claim when one of our cars went to the body shop to get a repair. We just bought a new car so we didnt even drive the rental but one time in the 3 days we had it, like 40 miles tops. We literally filled it up 1.2 miles (yes I mapped it) from the Hertz where we returned it, and these jokers charged us $18.36 for fuel. When we called them they wouldnt talk to us because we didnt have the billing number (said they was having trouble finding the transaction because we didnt have the billing number, it was an insurance claim. Why would we?!?). I mean its not like we are hurting for money we just bought a 2020 Equinox, but that 18 dollars guaranteed we wont be back. Go somewhere else where they wont try to screw you. You are welcome.

Reserved a car at Liberty MO location only to show up on the day of pick up to have a sign that it is closed. It says to call the Independence location who transfers you to the Gladstone location who does not answer. Never got such poor service.

The rental car was dirty on the inside and out. I had to clean the inside of the windshield in order to see to drive. The employees are helpful and nice when it comes to pick up and drop off. And the rental price was pretty good.

We flew in from Houston to this location with a reservation and confirmation number on file. We showed up to pick up our car and were turned away with a weak excuse about an attempt made by the location to cancel our reservation. So we checked our phone records and emails with no notice from this company. We also verified they had the correct phone number. So I actually called the Hertz national hotline and it actually showed our reservation was actually current. The lady at the front desk would not put me in contact with management about the issue and turned us away with no vehicle. She made absolutely zero effort to try to get us a car or right the wrong. Thankfully our baby boy had his grandparents available and we weren’t stuck at this rental location without transport. We rent cars and travel a lot.Update: We just went to the location at the airport and asked if they could honor our existing reservation which was absolutely current. Low and behold they did. The Gladstone location could’ve sent us on our merry way back to KCI or actually contacted us beforehand. They could’ve saved us an hour and half of our lives. Instead it was wasted on this sham of a rental company. I am so glad we could fix this issue ourselves. NO thanks to Gladstone and it’s unhelpful associates. I hope you hear from corporate!

I was pleased with the location and pick up experience. The car I rented was just fine, and bringing it back even after hours was no problem. I did make sure to document everything with photos on my phone. I took pictures of all of my paperwork, and took pictures of the outside and inside of the car, from all angles when I returned it. You have to make sure you are covered when you just drop off a car and nobody is around. You dont want them to blame you for damage that is not your fault! When you rent, you do need to be aware that your credit card will be charged quite a bit of extra money to cover what might be overtime on your rental. It is just a reservation on your credit card and not an actual charge. they have to reconcile the return, and make sure you are not late, and that is why they make the extra reservation on your card. but the staff was nice, and the telephone customer service was friendly. I will come back.

Horrible customer service. Reserved a car through National line phone line because I was unable to ever communicate with this location. Then was unable to pick up because nobody was at location when I arrived at the designated time. Received no communication regarding change of hours, vehicle availability. Again, spoke with National representative and was told a representative from this location would contact me and they never did.

Rented a car from here for a road trip and overall had a decent experience. When I arrived, the phones were ringing off the hook and I discovered that it was because another store was forwarding all their calls to this store. You could tell that they were really busy and most likely understaffed but they were very courteous with me and the other customers in the store. I think it was Whitney that helped me.

If I could give 0 stars I would. Had a reservation and when I show up Brittany and Jeff tell me that there are no more cars available. They did not try to offer me a future discount...just acted like it was no big deal. This is unacceptable because if there were no more cars I should have been notified beforehand. Now, I’ve spent over $25 in Uber rides getting to and from and have to reschedule my weekend plans.

You would expect much more from a premium car rental brand like Hertz. I booked a full size SUV, and when they showed me the one they were going to rent to me, it turned out to be a compact SUV. The lady tried to tell me that this one was full size until I disputed her claim. Following which she agreed that it was not the size I ordered, and proceeded to tell me that this one was all they had, and that she would help me find another Hertz location which might have one. Being short of time, I accepted the one they offered. Had a huge struggle to fit all my luggage in it, and had to adjust my entire trip due to lack of space in the vehicle.

I travel a lot and rent cars about 20 times a year. This was the worst experience Ive ever had renting a car. Took over an hour to get my car. They only had one clerk working. Lindsay was trying as hard as she could but there was just too many customers, phone ringing off the hook, and the shuttle drivers constantly interrupted her for mundane things. Whoever owns this location needs to staff it fully. Id rather have paid more at another company to have a regular experience instead of sitting around for an hour to be helped.

Got a rental car and had it for a couple of weeks. They gave me a Hyundai accent and the car was dirty. Got them to clean it. This car drove hard and you feel every bump the tires were terrible through a snow storm and would not recommend a Hyundai accent!! The staff was good and courtesy

This was the 4th time I have used this location. This experience was the exact opposite of the previous 3 times. After checking the car out and notating all the exterior damage, I got in the car and it smelled like an ash tray and there was cat hair all over the back seat. They offered me another car but I needed to get on the road. Then my computer reservation said I would be returning the vehicle on a Sunday and that is what the representative went over with me. I dropped it off an hour and 20 minutes early and drop box had no pen or envelopes. I followed instructions and dropped my contract in the box and wrote date in time on it. I took a picture of contact since It was my only copy. The next day they added $100 hold more than I authorized on my card and charged me over 5.5 times the agreed upon amount.I wasted over an hour and a half of my time trying to get through to them and their customer service line.They then informed me if car is returned on Sunday it goes as a Monday return which is a day late and rental fees change! None of this was stated online or when I was taking the car!!! Their online reservation system shouldnt have allowed the rental return on Sunday at the rate quoted! This was the worst rental car and customer experience Ive ever had renting a car. And the representative should have told me this before signing the contract.

We reserved a vehicle 3 weeks prior to picking it up. I even called a week prior to confirm the reservation. The day I went to pick up the vehicle, they called me at 5:10pm to tell me all their cars were in the shop. HORRIBLE. They gave the car I reserved away once, and then I had to wait until something else worked out. The second time they gave my car away, I reserved a month in advance. I called them a week before picking up the car to see if I could move my pick up time up 2 hours. The person on the phone said that was completely fine and see me in a week. Fast forward, one week later I call to verify that I am still ok to pick up my car for the earlier time that was already verified by one of their employees. The person I spoke with told me there were no cars available and they would not have the car ready by the earlier time and that she couldnt even guarantee the original time I reserved. I asked her what was the point of reserving, if they dont honor the reservations and just give cars away? She said things change. If I could give this place no stars I would. I know this reservation is during a holiday, but that is why I reserved far in advance.

Made a reservation the night before for 12pm the next day. I get there and they have no cars available for me. I ask when they will have a car available and they say 4-5. Get there around that time and they still don’t have a car available. Good thing I didn’t have to be anywhere quickly! Never doing business with them again! They just said that’s how business is done by letting people make reservations even though they don’t have vehicles available. Makes sense!

Rented a car for 8 days. I told the person running the order i would not have the car back until after hours on a Sat. He said no problem. He did not mention that i would be charged until Monday. I called and they said they had signs posted but i didnt see any and they said it was in fine print. well that sucks considering they are the ones who read the contract to you and its on there computer where you cant see it. I also talked to them as i was leaving if i needed to clean out the car because i knew we where going to have tons of sand because we where going to Florida. He said no, thats included in renters cost. Well, I was charged 50 bucks for it. I understand why I was charged for all of the things it just upsets me that they where not upfront and honest when they knew the details of my trip. Because of there Dishonesty I dont recommend them.

I see why this location has the worst reviews of any rental place in the area. Theyre a horrible company. We picked up a long term rental and were given the most putrid, stinky, car. You would expect a rental to have some level of cleanliness. Not at Hertz.The employee inside was absolutely bottom of the barrel in customer service and ability. Literally no help at all, and we had no other options at that time in the evening. She seemed to revel in being rude and dismissive.I will never rent here again. I would encourage everyone else to not repeat my mistakes.

Horrible location! They charged me a $100 for pet hair. Yes my dogs were in the car but I vacuumed the hatch back really well. I dropped it off after hours and when I went to dispute the charges the manager told me the seats were laid down and dog hair was everywhere. Bullshit! Because my infant was in the back seat when we dropped the car off. So how could the seats have been laid down?! They also said I could drop the car off at 1:20 pm on a Saturday (they closed at noon) because when I rented the car I rented it at 1:20pm. They charged me an additional 3 days and a late fee.I called corporate and they refunded me $50 of the cleaning fee and the 3 days and late fee.Stay away from Hertz, or at least this location! If you absolutely have to rent from them take a video of your return if its after hours. Record the inside then record you locking the doors and putting the keys in the key drop. Then to be safe record you going back to the car checking that its locked.

This day was unacceptable. NO Cars availableI will not deal with hertz rental again. I have been doing business with hertz for about two years. This is the first time and the last time, that I have to deal with this nonsense. I booked my car on Tuesday of this week. Got to Friday got a call 7:30 am in the morning telling me that they have NO CARS currently and my trip will be DELAYED.Robert the store manager said he would call me back instead I called and followed up all day until finally 2:30 pm I was picked up 7 Hours Late of my itinerary. Just to have my credit run and my debit card not be excepted once I got to the front desk. No car NO trip credit score drops. Never have I ever had this happened over a two year period dealing with hertz. My weekend is finished. I want to give zero stars. I have been in a car wreck and I needed a rental car. I will be writing letters to the Corporate Office and Regional Midwest area office. This will not happen again.

I honestly wouldnt give them any stars. The kid they have working the desk is extremely rude, in person AND via phone. I started out with a $17 a day car for 3 days, and when I called to extend it 2 more days because my own car was not finished in the shop suddenly the cost of my rental was $100 more. The rude kid explained that he had no control of the rates and that 5 days switched it to a weekly rate instead of daily. And that was after he started the conversation by being condescending and repeating himself instead of listening to what I told him.Bottom line- they just dont care about customer service here at all. Avoid them and pay a little extra for better service at another rental company.

Dont trust this place on a Saturday. I made a reservation online to pickup at noon (thru a third party website) for a full size car for $185 at a lot 15 minutes from the airport. The plane arrives late and we get a lyft to this hertz location at 12:12- and theyre closed! Closed at 12 supposedly. Mind you, I had no idea they closed at noon because pickup time was set for 12. My husband and I called three different people including corporate and the airport... which totaled almost 2 hours of talk time with a supervisor and they said there was nothing they could do. Only option was to do a new reservation but they wanted to charge me $475!IM MUCH MORE UPSET THAT THE EMPLOYEES WHO WORKED TODAY, didnt think to CALL ME BEFORE THEY CLOSED and ask if we were close, but no one called me. There is a sign on the door that says call the airport in case of emergency, so we did. Suggested that they call the manager for this location to just come back and open the doors, give us car keys and we can all be on our way, but no! That couldnt be done either for whatever reason!! Im pissed. We have two kids with us, one is a baby and three things of luggage and a car seat that we were stuck with no car. Thanks HERTZ! Never again!!!

I booked and paid for my rental car via a 3rd party website, one that I have used for years, however, this was my first and last time renting from Hertz!When I arrived to pick up the car, their were people ahead of me, the staff was dismissive and ignored me as they walked out the door to show other customers to their rentals. I did not have high expectations, but a, we will be right with you or some other acknowledgement of my presence would have been appreciated.When they finally came back inside, I gave them my name and they pulled up the rental information, told me that I would have to pay full price for an extra day since they were not going to be open on Sunday and then requested a large deposit be put on my credit card as well. To make matters worse, they were rude and condescending with regards to my declining to purchase their insurance even after I explained that I had full coverage including the maximum amount of uninsured/under-insured motorist coverage.When I told them it was no longer cost effective for me to rent the car and I would drive my own, I asked that the refund my pre-purchase amount. They told me that the could not and that I had to call an 800 number to get my refund, which I did call. It was another Hertz number and the woman on the other end was not only unhelpful but so rude and interrupting that I just hung up the phone.I also wrote to the 3rd party vendor and explained all that has happened and suggested that they not do business with this company either. It was a horrible experience and moving forward I will stick with Enterprise!

This company is horrible. Ive had to exchange cars 3 times when renting from them. Everything from motor issues to expired plates. I advise others to stay away from Hertz.

Worst rental car agency I have ever seen. Avid the please. These guys know nothing about customer service. I have had multiple negative experience with them. I called them today to ask about my reservation. They put on hold for 45 minutes and then disconnected. Called again, put me on hold, waited for another 15 minutes.

Change in policy: they only take debit cards if they can check your credit, bummer! Usually results in no rental, if you have good credit then you can get your own credit card.

We have booked at this location twice over a one month period and EACH time our trip was delayed over two hours because they did not have a car ready for us by our allocated time. First time I was sent to Liberty, second time we were sent to the airport. We like to book at the Gladstone location because of the higher taxes at the airport, but it appears to always be just a waste of our time. If they would have just CALLED US we would have been happy to go to another location, but evidently from the annoyed looks on their faces, they could care less about taking some initiative to save the relationship with their customers. It is like they are so used to customers being angry that they just do not care. If you live in the Kansas City area just go to another location. This one needs to be shut down and all of the staff not hired at other local locations. The employees at the Airport and Liberty locations are fantastic. Skip this Hertz location as they have zero respect for your travel plans or your time.

I was charged $26 to fuel up a 11gal tank that I brought back w/ $10. Hertz supposedly charged $2.30/gal. Nice job running around on my gas money.

Wife brought the car back, we have dogs that shed so hair gets on our clothes, they found a couple of dog hairs on the seats from our clothes and charged us 100.00 for cleaning. The seats were leather so when then clean the car like they are suppoed too a vacuum or cloth would have picked them up. Worst car agency ever and very rude.
