My old water heater went out, and we called to get a new one. They didnt have any on hand but went out and managed to get one ( I think they got it from Lowes). Just over a year later, one of the heating elements needed replaced. They said it was due to calcium buildup. They wanted to replace the whole heater, but this was only a year after the last one put in, so we had them replace the heating unit only. That was Jan 2020, a year and a half later no hot water again. We called someone else to come look at it... on initial assessment, the heating element had caught fire from when they installed the new heating unit. So the new guy ( different company) was going to replace the part that burned out. As he was working on it, he noticed the heating element was covered in water softener resin. We had replaced the water softener shortly after the water heater due to the resin tank bursting and sending all the resin through the water. Southtown would have noticed all the resin in the bottom of the tank when they replaced the heating unit. They didnt mention and left 6 inches of resin to degrade the new heating element.Now, just over 2.5 years after getting a heater, we have to get a new water heater, since there is no way to remove this resin effectively. The new company will have the heater inspected. Southtown never sent us the information to have it inspected after it was done.The fact that they didnt install it properly and started a fire infuriates me. It could have burned down my house. I have photographs of the damage and am saving the heater for legal action evidence..

The original thermostat for our new heating and air conditioning systems failed March 2021 and was replaced. This second thermostat failed as well and was replaced by Southtowns service representative, Dale. We found Dale to be very professional and knowledgeable and were very pleased with his work. It our hope that this new thermostat will work properly.

Honest. Punctual. Reasonable.I’ve had them out to work on an older HVAC system. They may not have the best judgement at times but will always make situations right. The preventative maintenance plan SEEMS to be a good deal.

About 5 weeks ago we had a very expensive motor replaced in our furnace by a technician at Southtown. About one week after that new motor went in I heard a similar noise that had preceded the replacement part. The technician returned and said a screw/bolt was loose, removed the screw, the sound resolved, but said hed have to ask Southtown how to fix it long term. Several weeks go by with no communication. This was over Christmas/NYE, so a few days is understandable, but a few weeks is excessive. I called after the holidays looking for an update on a Friday and was promised a call back on Monday. I never received that call. I called today one week later at 4:55pm and was told Id need to call back at normal business hours for an update. I know its just a screw, but after a $1k new motor and a new rattle in the furnace shortly after that install, I would expect at least remotely appropriate follow up. After this hopefully gets resolved I doubt well stick with Southtown going forward.

My furnace went out yesterday. They came out and discovered what they think was the issue. Through messaging I believe the repair person sent the information back to the office so parts could be ordered or determine if they could be pickup up locally. The repair person left around 4pm. Heard nothing the next day so I called a little around 9:30 am. She mentioned she just got his paperwork and would look into the parts and let me know. I waited and waited and no communications at all. Finally called around 2:30 to see what was up to find out they all left and wont be back until Monday. I get taking the holiday to be with family and such, but no communications about it is not okay. Im taking my business elsewhere where even if they cant get it done sooner they will keep me in the loop. This place use to be pretty solid, but I fear theyre slipping. They actually installed my system in 1993, but wont have that chance when I replace it next year.

(::EDIT IN RESPONSE TO OWNER:: google gives no way to respond, we had you guys do our ac and were great, your plumbers basically gave up and told me to call someone else. I didn’t know it was worse till the next day. You have my info on file so get a hold of me. To be clear your ac guys went above and beyond to keep things clean and they even drilled through my house. Your plumbers left sewage splatters all over my bathroom walls never cleaned it up )Had them come out to clear a main drain and not only did they not fix the problem they made it worse, left sewage spray all over my walls, won’t answer my calls, charged me for it, and never gave a receipt. This is extremely unprofessional of them...

Bad recommendation from a friend, service call was more than quoted. Wasnt told about travelTime or taking longer than 1 hr. Quoted 700 bucks more for a blower motor than the other place i called. Maybe that was the i dont really want to do it price. Good luck

Southtown Heating and cooling did a great job installing a new heating and a/c unit in my home. They showed up on schedule, and completed the job fast and efficient. The technicians were courteous and cleaned up each day when they were finished working. Hank who contracted the job, came to my house a few days after the job was completed to make sure it was done to satisfaction! Great Job!

Tech didnt follow instructions as written to him. I asked him for price quote he said he will get back with me. I contacted the office for price quote they said the lady is busy and in a meeting she will call you back. I didnt hear back from them. Will never do bussiness with you

This is a good, solid company. We own a big, complex, expensive house. Granted, they need to prioritize emergencies over nice-to-have upgrades. Understood as they cover a wide area with a number of expertises. There are, sometimes, delays and they arent always clairvoyant as to what will/could go wrong. They seem to work best on a cyclical maintenance or repair schedule (i.e. expect 2 to 3 wks for those on-order canned lights installations). The schedulers are ALWAYS pleasant and communicative and will explain what is happening. The techicans are all business but will take the time to explain if you are interested. Their experience, training and knowledge is apparant. We now know what to expect when they are scheduled to come and we are confident in their services. Oh, yeah, regarding price, if you have their annual HVAC/heating service expect GREAT prices on those services. However, their costs on other services are entirely reasonable and they ALWAYS will give you an honest estimate that you can take or leave. We took a chance with them when we moved in over a year ago and, ever since, they have delivered.

The two gentlemen that came to the house were very professional and friendly. They did the job in less time than I thought it would take and the charges were extremely reasonable. 25 year old blower motor was on its last leg. Dale checked out the furnace and found minor issues and resolved them quickly. Everything was up to specifications and furnace was working, however Dale checked out blower motor on the final inspection and noticed that it was very warm and asked if I wanted it changed. I agreed that if he did not change the motor now he would be back in several weeks to replace it. Upon inspection, after it was removed, it would have only lasted days. Thank you Southtown and Dale for a superior job again. If your looking for quick service and honest answers then contact Southtown.The above is the second time I have hired Southtown for service on my furnace. The last time it was replacement of the heat exchanger, lots of work and no issues for several years with the furnace. The unit is a Bryant 90 Plus that is over 25 years old. Dale performed the replacement of the heat exchanger. If you listen to what Dale tells you about furnace filters, you will save money and extend the life of your unit.

Good service, friendly office staff and technicians. Beware of the cost though. Their billing time begins when they’ve been dispatched, and you pay for the time it takes to get to your house, beginning with wherever the technician happens to be leaving from. And if they have to go back to the office to get a part, you also pay for the transit time there and back. He was physically in my house for about 35 minutes, I paid for 1 3/4 hours. The dispatch time on the receipt was 0930, the time stamp on the call I got was 0953, so keep track of times or you’ll pay. Also keep in mind that their flat rate fee for the first hour is more than their hourly rate, which is also higher than the competition. The markup on parts they install is also significant, about 90% for the part I had to buy. I used another plumbing company for a similar call about six months ago, and it cost 35% of what Southtown charged me. Good product, just be ready to pay a premium price.Edit: got a call from Southtown saying they’d credit some time back to me. Thanks for the prompt and honest follow up.

Just a total waste of my time.They came out on July 24th to take some pictures so they could get me a quote. I called and messaged several times, but all I ever got was excuses.I went with Atherton - they did updates for $399.00 same day.Today (8/13/2020) Southown finally got back to me with a quote of $631.If you need it done fast, dont pick them - it took three weeks to get an estimate. If you need it done on a budget dont pick them - shop around and youll save money.

Great company !!! In the last 6 months, I have had to replace my furnace and water heater. I also had to have my well fixed which was leaking and had the pump replaced at the same time. The Sales staff is awesome !!! I have had the privilege to work with Casey and Terry, they are great !!! They do not try to sell you something you do not need. They are awesome at what they do.The different technicians that have come out are awesome as well. They were all very knowledgeable and took time to answer any questions I had. They know what they are doing and they do an excellent job.I would highly recommend anyone looking to have heating, air or plumbing work done. You can not go wrong with Southtown !!!

We had an error on our thermostats for maintenance. We had the furnace checked and were told everything looked good. Then recently we noticed water stains on our ceiling. We had them out and no leak was found. We were told it may be coming from our chimney. It was not. We came home after vacation to find a lit of water leaked and our ceiling coming through. We opened the area and found it was indeed the furnace. We called them again and found out the heat exchange was leaking. This can happen from having a high efficiency furnace over 80% that has condensation as these tubes can freeze and break. Had no idea or we would not have had it in the attic. The GM came out the next day to give us an estimate on fixing the old furnace, fixing and moving the old furnace and also putting in a new furnace, removing the old one, removing the old boiler and relocating the unit. We chose the last option. The GM Joe was very nice. Gave us time to think and sent extra men to get the job done as fast as possible as we had not had heat now for a few days. The techs are wonderful. Very nice and didnt mind when I asked questions. They are also glad to have it out of our attic. Not easy to fix on small places. We has lost our faith in them after the previous experiences but they definitely made a lot of effort to make us comfortable and showed that they care.

After a preventative maintenance inspection yesterday, I am even more impressed.A likely indicator of a quality company, in addition to the skill of its employees, is how long those skilled employees remain with the company. Having the same highly skilled, and friendly, technician show up year after year, saves time and provides confidence. An indicator of the quality of the technician’s advice is how his twice yearly status reports building on his knowledge of our system, reflect real changes in our aging heating and air condition system from the last inspection.FredWe have been one of their Preventative Maintenance Program customers for some years. Dale came out today to fix my air conditioner. He was super friendly and nice and went above and beyond to fix my unit and to educate me on what to do to extend the life of it. In response to the owners reply:::: You are lying. Or someone you work with is. There were never flames so I would have never said that. It was only sparks and no one ever contacted me NOR did anyone tell me to call the fire department. A simple accepting of responsibility and apology would go a long way. We had someone out there from a great company who fixed the problem with no issues this morning. No need to call the fire department.Original post: This company deserves zero stars based on my experience. Called with an emergency electrical situation for a rental property of mine. Was told the electrician would be out. Called back another 2 times to confirm because we hadn’t heard anything in a while. We kept getting told that the electrician had been notified and would contacting us. Needless to say they no called / no showed. Will never try this company again.

Had a plumbing issue this morning with my hot water. Called at 7:30 am and there was someone at my house by 8:05 am. I called other places this morning that couldnt get to an emergency until Monday 8/13/18. I will never call any off those places again. I will tell everyone I know to call South town if they require and plumbing and I will start using them for Heating & Air. Thank you so much for the excellent service

We have used Southtown for over a decade and the championship results are clear. Always professional; always quality; always punctual. Sump pump, water softener, faucets, lighting, switches, etc.--Nothing they cant tackle. Willing to go with customer supplied new parts or will go get a part without extra labor charge. Horrible business. Filing a complaint now with the bbb. This company waisted a lot of my time. A leaking toilet seems real simple to fix. While arriving the men working practice zero hospitality and seemed quite rude, the lady on the phone was a nightmare. Being a business owner myself being on time is always important but this company didnt seem to have any work ethic. Long story short my toilet was still leaking an hour after this company left. 177 dollars for a wax ring ? So we called this company back and the lady receptionist was one of the worst human beings we have ever tried to talk to. All we asked was that our leak be fixed, and they just refused to help us on top of talking to us like we were in the wrong. The owner of this company has yet to contact us about what happened that day. A letter was sent to us with a threat to put a lean on our house. Out of principal I will spend a lot of money in court on these people and spend a lot of my time making sure that justice is served if the owner wants to come look at our leaking toilet and fix it then we will gladly pay the 177

One evening back in late February, our furnace stopped working. The very next morning they came out and had us up and running within 1 hour. The technician was friendly, trust-worthy, & honest. The office staff was also a pleasure to deal with. When all was said and done, we received a repair we were 100% pleased with at a very reasonable price!!!

This company is a rip off. They take advantaged of the Disabled and African American people. Ask for an estimate and ended up with a $220.25 bill for unauthorized charge. They then charged a trip charge of $109. Never one time did they tell about a trip charge for estimate. Had they said a charge then I would have cancel the trip to my home for an estimate. Never again, nor would I give out a reference for this company.

They are always prompt, personable and have been able to rectify whatever problem I may have with HVAC, electrical and plumbing issues. My 84 yr. old mother called Southtown yesterday to service her tenants air conditioner; she didnt know what was wrong with it, except that it wasnt working properly. Shes used Southtown for years.The young man who came was very polite, but all he did was take some measurements and write up an estimate for 2 new cooling systems - he didntservice anything. When he told my mother how much they cost, she thought he was referencing hundreds, instead of thousands of dollars. I had to explain that he meant thousands! We let him know, at THAT moment, that we were going to get other estimates before making a purchase decision. However, my mother paid a small deposit in case she chose to go with Southtowns system, with the understanding that it would be refunded if she chose another contractor. Well, she chose another contractor.Today, we learned that Southtown was keeping $150 of the deposit shed paid because, according to Southtowns rep, she used the word service, instead of asking for someone to come give her an estimate for a new system. How many 84 yr old women are HVAC experts - and know whether they need service or just a new system? Thats what she called Southtown for. When I asked what the cost was to have someone come give her an estimate for a new system, the answer was $0!I was very clear about how exorbitant I felt that $150 charge was, but I was told we took the business away, meaning the $6000+ new system they werent going to install. And just yesterday, I had a long conversation with this same woman about the fact that my mother was on a limited income, but had recently had to replace thousands of dollars worth of systems, appliances, and fixtures in both her and her tenants units.The company rep wanted to play word semantics with me, but basically this business just took advantage of an 84 year old woman who chose to hire another contractor. They charged her a $150 service fee for a call in which no service was performed, and provided a cost estimate which, by their own admission, they normally charge $0!

Took them two weeks to give us over a $4,000 qoute for a new braker box and sub panel instal. Quote just stated what we wanted with a price. Nothing was itemized or layed out in any way. This was a, i dont want this job so ill way over bid it quote. Normally i wouldnt care but they charged $50 for the quote and when i paid, the guy asked if she told me $150 for the quote. Keep in mind they treated Girl Scouts like this, the work is need at one of our camps. I wouldnt even give them a chance for my personal property.

Called out to our duplex. Plumber diagnosed problem but the price was several hundred dollars too high. Paid for the call, no problem. Called the electrician to look at a couple problems. Never called me or diagnosed the problem. Walked in then left, they charged me $104. Check the BBB against this company. 7 complaints against. I had to call them to send me a receipt for my taxes. My opinion is, they were going to get the high ticket price so they left me on the little thing that need done.

This company is not to be trusted . My grandparents asked for an estimate and got charged for a trip charge, an the worker did not get approval to work on there furnace. He took advantage of the handicap. Now because of the worker who damaged their furnace, they must get a new one put in, which by the way was a free estimate from another trusted HVAC But that’s ok that’s why the NAACP & Handicapp organization will be doing a protest and they’re asking all TV stations to be there.

I had a consultant out to my home and explained the project I was looking to get a bid for. He looked at my cape cod home in Kettering Ohio and made suggestions and said he would write up a proposal and I didnt hear back from him. I called the office and attempted twice more to get the bid from him and was unsuccessful. Its unfortunate that after spending thousands of dollars with this company I couldnt even get a proposal from them for my home. This is a very poor way to show your appreciation to previous customers. I just purchased a new home in Oakwood and can guarantee that I wont be calling this company back for any bids. Ill continue to work with Mcafee heating and air conditioning as they have replaced my AC unit and Furnace all work that would have went to Southtown had they been able to actually follow through with their promise of quality customer service.

Southtown helped me navigate getting my commercial business up to code to get the Certificate of Occupancy when my contractor walked off the job. It was a long process but they did it all, HVAC, electrical and fire code issues. Finally resolved!!
