I was looking for someone to service my 1927 Dodge Brothers Fast Four. I searched and found most wanted nothing to do with the car. I email Sam on Saturday figuring he was answer back during business hours during the week, he called me, and we talked for about 20 minutes and he asked if he could come over and look at the car to help pick the right path. He showed up on Sunday, spent 2+ hours checking things out and trying things. he recommended I drop the gas tank, get it cleaned and coated and flush the fuel system lines and change the fuel filter. I did that and the car runs great for a 95-year-old car. There is some other work that needs to be done and SAM said he would recommend people if he cant do it. Thanks to Sam, I have a running 1927 Dodge Brothers Fast Four. Honestly, you don’t find service like this very much. He treated me as part of the family. I recommend him to everyone I talk to that needs a mechanic, and a few that were not even asking for one.It is so refreshing that Sam talks with you and down to you. I was a mechanic and still play and do some of my own service work. Most mechanic still talk down to me and think that they can BS someone. Not Sam, he is honest, straight forward and a breath of fresh air.He will be my servicer for my 1927 Dodge Brothers Fast Four and other vehicles.

PRE-PURCHASE INSPECTIONS: We trusted Sam to inspect a pre-owned 2008 BMW i series we were considering purchasing 6 years ago. He gave it an all-clear and its been a very dependable vehicle! In April 2021 we asked Sam to inspect a pre-owned 2018 Subaru Forester and after he inspected some key parts advised us NOT to buy the car. We found out later the car had multiple problems that were documented at a dealer but never repaired. Sam then inspected and approved a pre-owned 2017 Toyota Rav4, which has been trouble-free.Thanks to Sam we avoided the problems, frustrations, and EXPENSES of an unreliable pre-owned vehicle. Highly recommended!

I’ve known the Smyth family since dealing with Smyth’s Imported Car Service in Norwood in the late sixties. About 6 years ago I purchased an MGTD from Smyth Imports in Remington. It was a fine running car thanks to Sam’s attention to details. Due to some lower back issues, I’ve been unable to use the car for the last 4 years. I pulled it out of the garage to prepare it to sell after charging the battery & it fired up instantly & ran perfectly with 4 year old gas!! That is totally attributable to the condition that Sam got the car into years before- I can recommend this facility without reservation.

Finally getting around to this review! I took this MGB to Sam in May 19 to have him assess some drivability problems related to the Weber carb that was on the car when I bought it a year earlier. Sam immediately recommended we get rid of the Weber and go back to a more original solution. We decided on the HS6 SU upgrade available at Moss Motors (Sam is an authorized dealer). Pricey, but I knew that was the correct route.Along the way he encountered other issues (of course, thats what youd expect.) Id get a call every week about some other issue that presented itself. Sam kept me informed about the whys and wherefores of everything he found, which ended up being a lot! His knowledge of classic British cars is immense, not to mention others.Long story short, I picked up the car in August. Sam went along for the test drive, about a 1/2 hr thru the village of Indian Hill, explaining everything. The following items were replaced with new. Gas tank, SU fuel pump, HS6 carbs with all the linkage, etc, K&N dual air filters, Pertronix distributor including ignition, hood release cable, new back up and license plate lights. I may have left some out. Then there was the labour involved getting everything back together, and all the horrors of previous owners, etc, to iron out. Like I said, sometimes a call every day that Sam found something else. I really was about to give up when I found out the exhaust header I recently got back from the machine shop wouldnt fit! We ended up getting a new one from Moss.I couldnt give up though. By this time I considered Sam to be a good buddy. We both had a lot of sweat into this thing.Needless to say, the car runs great. Starts every time, even without the choke! Its finally put up for the winter, looking forward to that 1st nice day in March or so.Thanks again Sam, and lets not forget Paul. Great job, guys!

Sam is a guy that wants to do the job right, keep your vehicle safe and make the work last. My prior repair shop that specialized in Alfa Romeos was a big disappointment. They installed the wrong sized radiator--which caused a rust spot under my hood; a low quality water pump that went out in a few thousand miles--but would not stand behind the work, along with leaving wires dangling inside the engine compartment. They also marked up their parts over 300%. When I asked them to stand behind their work, the owner asked me to never stop in again.Sams specialty is diagnosing and restoring. He is very honest and approachable. He will listen and do exactly what you ask, along with making key suggestions. He will let you purchase your parts from specialty parts houses and bring them in for installation. If you have a vintage vehicle that you want to keep, Smyth Imports is an excellent place to take it. I have been a customer for several years.

I highly recommend Sam Smyth for service work on classic vehicles. He repaired my 1965 Land Rover which I brought to him with a horrible misfire which made the car basically undriveable. He was a true pleasure to work with, made the correct diagnosis of the problem, and was able to repair it quickly. The car runs better than it has in decades. His work is affordable, and lower than dealership prices. He allows his customers to source any needed parts themselves, saving money. Most importantly he has a ridiculous level of experience, and in my case, knew my car backwards and forwards, as he has owned many of these over his lifetime. He has the rare ability to look over the car and quickly point out potential issues. He was very gracious to help me work up a maintenance list for my vehicle. I highly recommend his shop.

Sam wanted to make sure to identify the issue and make sure he was going right to the problem. He marked some stuff so my son knew what to look at and then later got the fix in place. So Im a bit late posting this review but I feel it needs to be done. I had stopped in during my lunch break and found no one was home. I called the number on the door and got an answer immediately. Sam told me he was right around the corner and to hang out. Within two minutes he was there with his son and invited me in. Now I was a bit intimidated asking about my old Jag X-type while there were RR and Bentleys up on the lifts. Well it didnt take long to figure out that my fears were ill founded. You could not meet a nicer, more trustworthy family. He could have told me right away that he was booked up on bigger more expensive projects and to take a hike but that never happened. I was invited inside the office and offered a beverage. They went above and beyond what was needed as we sat and talked for about 20 minutes, going over options for my $5k car, hunting down parts and recommending a good place that would be able to see me. The only thing greater than his generosity is his knowledge of vehicles. Very impressive.

I phoned Sam this morning right at 9AM when he opened. Ive been working on my 95 Mercedes-Benz E320 for four months, trying to figure out what everyone says is a common problem. someone told me to just give Sam a call and have him look at it, because hes the European Import Whisperer. I described my problem, hoping that I could bring this baby in and get a diagnostic, even though I have had other diagnostics. Sitting on my porch, with my dogs and my coffee, I began my story with Sam. I expected to get an appointment and bring the car in when all was said and done. Nope. Not with the Whisperer. He pretty much knew exactly what the problem was, told me that they fix for it was unfortunately more than the car was worth. As an aside, she Kelley Blue Books for 2Gs. I have a Band-Aid fix that makes the car run beautifully, but of course with a European car you always want it in top-notch condition. We talked for a good 20 minutes, all the while Im still sitting on my porch with my coffee. I didnt move, I didnt use gas, I was sitting on a cushy chair... I got the answer I needed, and didnt spend a dime. By the time we finished, we were on a first name basis, and I told Sam I wanted to come work for him, doing marketing! Sam at Sam Smyth imports is nothing short of AMAZING! Mr. Smyth is very kind, helpful and courteous. I have 2 Rolls Royces, one started giving me a climate control issue with my ACU fans not operating. I am in Alabama and do not have any skilled mechanics to repair the car in this area. I had heard wonderful things, about Mr. Smyth so I called him about the problem. He was so kind and walked me thru the steps of diagnosing my problem, with his amazing knowledge, we found the problem and got my A/C operating again! How I wish I was closer to his shop so I could have such a great mechanic for my cars. Anyone who is close enough to him should consider themselves VERY lucky, because youve got ONE GREAT AUTOMOBILE TECHNICIAN! Thanks so much for your help Sam! YOU ARE AMAZING! FIVE STARS ALL THE WAY!!

The block is not big enough to tell the whole story on my bmw x5 4.4, but a recent story. after a recent reaming for $1450 for cv boots, i left with an $870 estimate for replacing a BAD leaking valve cover the bmw store has seen the last dollar from me so researched and found sam. i didnt even care if he would have charged more.met with him and he got out his lights and mirrors and just shook his head. the only thing he could find was minor misting on one of the front hold down bolts. not actual oil, just a slight discoloration. not unusual and no reason at all to replace.a lot of overhead at the bmw store i guess. see sam before just taking their word for it.
