Worst rental company ever. We had a leak in our ceiling 2 months after we moved in. They sent 5+ plumbers out who cut major holes in different areas of the house. We moved out a year later and the holes had still not been fixed, and neither had the leak. We are now being charged for them to repaint the walls with the holes… we are also being charged to repaint other walls that they deemed were “damaged” when there was nothing damaged about them. They are horrible to work with and we are now having to take legal action to get the $1,100 they are charging us for painting… I have included a picture of the hole in the ceiling, the bedroom wall cutout they made and are charging us to paint, and some pictures they sent us as proof of damaged walls. I know there were some spots on the walls, but not $1,100 worth of “damage”

Ive been waiting for a dishwasher for 3 months now my wife was diagnosed with cancer in jan.and passed in july during that time we had to hand sanitize all cooking utensils and got nothing but a run around my front steps have not been to code and we reported that when we moved in they said they were contemplating on what to do about it . its been a year now it must take an act of congress to make a decision at mainstreet renewal wow just got informed that the work order that they have given me is from April 2020 when i lived at a different residence to think of all the time i wasted doing their jobs and one more thing just got my new lease agreementr with a rent increase how rewarding

Very unprofessional and I can’t even get a call back... I started my process on the 1st of July and I’m still in process today. Spoke with supervisors from your office that helped but didn’t follow up. I’ve been fully approved but still haven’t been sent my leasing agreement. The agents really have very little information or help they can offer with my situation which is infuriating... I’ve called over 30 times I know and have gotten barely any answers. Everyone I speak to tells me something different. I’ve emailed several times with no response... my experience so far has been VERY frustrating.

This company is something else…as I read other reviews I noticed a lot of them were regarding applications for new homes and of the sorts, I hope you all find a great home…but don’t follow through with this company. My fiancé and I moved into our home back in April, we weren’t in the house for a week until we started dreading the idea of walking in. Every day there was a new issue. Starting with a gas leak, then our HVAC system was shot, our oven/range was improperly wired, and we had a “simple” water leak in the main bathroom, and the second bathroom didn’t have hot water running to it. Although these issues have been “resolved” in a timely manor -which I’m grateful for, the technicians were great- more problems continued to surface. The house used to have an attic but it was closed off, every time it rains the “old” water spots in the kitchen continues to grow, we’ve had several technicians come out and they’ve all claimed to have fix said issue…every time it rains we cross our fingers and pray that the ceiling doesn’t cave in. Every time we run the shower in the main bathroom, the closet in the room behind it holds a steady stream, alongside a hole beside the bathtub. Those are current issues but it’s still not why I’m writing this review. I’m writing this because on April 27th we started a Rent Concession, we were informed by many Reps that it would take 35-45 business days…I’m typing this in August after getting off the phone with a Rep who told me that there’s no way of actually telling us how long it’ll take, this Rep also informed me that there is no way for me to personally contact Management (who is overseeing the Concession) and that they’d have to reach out to us. There’s so much more to say about this company and how unprofessional it truly is.So to the people who are looking for a home…RUN away from this company. It’ll do nothing but stress you out.The attached photos are the water spots in the kitchen (first photo is from when we moved in, the second photo I just took)

Horrible customer service- near the level Id consider a scam. Im still waiting for a sizeable refund that was promised 3+ weeks ago which should have processed within 5-7 days. All emails since have gotten automated out of office replies.We received a call saying we had been approved for a home and were repeatedly told we had 24 hours between that approval and requirement of deposit to secure the home, so that time would be given to read and sign lease agreements and meet the property manager. However, less than an hour after we were approved for the home (before any information was sent on how to make the security deposit, where too, or the transfer of the lease agreement to us from MSR, AFTER they said lease agreements and payment info were on the way) we received a second call saying it was going to another family that had secured the deposit for us.The refund of application funds was promised but has never arrived. It took over 50 minutes to reach a person to call about the countless issues, including the refunds on every single occasion a call was placed. Save yourself the money and the time and dont rent from here. Im STILL waiting for my refund- and absolutely appalled.EDIT; As last week, after a nearly 2 month delay, we have finally received the full refund, and the only reply we received was immediately after posting this review. It was still a shockingly unprofessional, stressful and horrible experience, but the refund has been made.

Absolutely ridiculous. Paid a $900 deposit to secure a house only to have my self tour date repeatedly pushed back until eventually I never received a code to be able to tour. Took that as the house obviously not being ready and them lying about it, so I requested my deposit back, which they said would 5-7 days. It has been 15 days and I still have not received a check back.

I applied to one of their properties, never could get anyone to talk to me, and found out I didn’t get it by seeing it was no longer listed on Zillow. Very unorganized and unprofessional, I’m sure I dodged a bullet by not renting from them.You should have the decency to keep people informed after they pay your $50 application fee.

I have been working with this company since April of this year. I have paid a total of $230 in application fees it’s July and STILL No home! Every single time it’s something and my application get canceled. This last time I was told the home was already Pre-Leased after waiting 5 days but I see nothing on the site or wasn’t told anything about pre-leasing was available. I’ve called multiple times to speak with a manager No Call Back! I’ve emailed SEVERAL times and asked to speak with a manager No Response! Each home I apply for most times I am the first or second to apply but somehow I end of with nothing SINCE APRIL! It’s frustrating and sad that this company doesn’t do right by you!

I was pleased to work with Helena. She was very professional and quick to respond to handle my situation. I was very upset because I had been given the run around with a company about a hot water heater. I found her number and she jumped right on it to make sure that I would get help to resolve the problem. It was like a breathe of fresh air to speak with her. Please!! Save your money but more importantly your time!! I am not a person that even makes reviews and I have never in my life seen such a unresponsive unconcerned agency! I read all the requirements and applied for a home on July 6th, my credit was ran on the 8th. I called Monday the 12th and was told to allow 5 business days. I waited until the 14th and called for a update. I was told that I would have to wait on my background check to come back and they would be in touch with me. I called today the 16th because I couldn’t stand to wait the weekend without hearing something. I was told that the house I applied for was rented out. They would not tell me the date it was rented and the house still shows available on the website as I type this review. They then told me they could transfer my application to another property but that “request” would take another 5 business days to be processed. Oh and my application still hasn’t even been approved or denied which is what I paid for them to do. I have never felt so scammed in my life.

I have never had a worse experience just trying to renew a lease. You call the 844 number and your on hold for ever once you get ahold of someone still nothing gets done. I have communicated via email and you may get a response days later if you even get a response. Ive been trying to renew my lease for a month now. Still cant get anything done. Worse communication I have ever had from a company.

Applied for a home with section 8 it got denied over a rent burden Of $4 suppose to have received my security deposit back haven’t heard from nobody constantly getting the run around don’t nobody know where the check who it’s coming from or nothing . Waited months for a home failed inspection when it did pass that’s when it was denied. This company is not responsive at all. They asked for extra proof of income, which I submitted same day. Leasing agent said that she would call me back same day. It’s been two weeks, I’ve called and emailed and can’t get a response from anyone. The house I originally applied for is now rented, I’m interested In another house and still can’t get a call back. I have been trying to rent a property from them since February. Found one and they told me to send the paperwork in. Had complications so I took all my paperwork to the office and asked the front desk to tell them to call me to help me out. Didnt get help until they told me my application expired and the house was back up for market after they had said they will go pick up my paperwork but no one ever did. Found another property applies and sent my paperwork in. They sent me an email saying to send the same paperwork I sent come to find out some of them were cropped and werent signed but wasnt explained that till I emailed and told them I dont understand . Got the answers I needed and corrected it. Said I was approved and to send my deposit. Sent my deposit, 4 days later they tell me I do not qualify and they will send my check by mail. I am on section 8 and its in a timely manner I find another place to live and my voucher ends may 8. Here it is april 2y and my down deposit has still not came in the mail. Even if I didnt get a property with them they know Im in the process of trying to move and I needed my down deposit. Now Im stuck in a house where the roof leaks with a brand new roof at that with meldww and mold that 3 professional have told me these are not good living conditions. Ive already had my voucher extended once. If youve been on section 8 then you know its hard to get a third. So thanks MAINSTREET for NOT answering in a timely or professional manner and for having me and my 5 kids stuck in another year of mold, meldew. Hats off too you and your not so fine service

Brian was amazing in repairing what he could, in the spot and ordering new what he had to (dishwasher and refrigerator). He was down to earth and understood our concerns and went above and beyond in customer service. I was very nervous as I have never rented from a company before but Brian put us completely at ease. Each visit from Courtney has been a treat as he goes above and beyond to provide a professional experience and timely service. I been with Main Street for maybe 2 1/2 year but I started out with another company before my own was purchased by them. I wouldn’t recommend this company for anyone. The customer service agents are very rude and they doesn’t care about anything or anyone. I have have several things go wrong with my home and it take so long for vendor to come out to service my home it be days maybe a week 1/2 before I can get anyone out. This is the worst company I have ever rented from and even now my hot water heated went out and I submitted an order last weekend and no one still have not came to my home and contacted me. This is outrage and unacceptable. I will not be renewing my lease with this company

In the last year and half we have remodeled close to 100 homes with close to 20 of which were Main Street Renewal properties. Let me tell anyone looking for a rental property in the Birmingham area to make Main Street Renewal your first/last call.I can say with first hand knowledge that the quality of the homes in Main Street’s portfolio is second to none. The majority of property management companies seem to be more worried about profits rather than having the best homes in the city. In fact, when my lease runs out at my current home I will be moving into a Main Street property myself.Finally, let me say to any other contractor’s looking for steady work.... get yourself setup as an approved vendor with Main Street. You won’t find a better construction team to work with. My primary point of contact is Superintendent Chris Harris. Chris is great partner that has years of experience. We rented from them for 2 years, maintenance requests were slow to be fixed and most times we repaired things ourselves. We moved in May because they wanted almost $100 more bucks a month for the same place we had lived for 2 years. We cleaned and repaired that place from top to bottom, got a satisfactory on everything on the checkout list, except for some touch up paint needed on the backdoor that was actually there when we moved in. Out of a $1495 deposit, they returned $497, stating it had to be repainted, dog odor (which was supposed to be covered with the non-refundable pet deposit we paid), and various other ridiculous claims. They were supposed to have called us back last week, and we have yet to hear from them. They stated they had over 60 other claims filed, so that tells me theyre nothing but crooks! DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY!!!

Update 2 weeks after last update: RUN! Dont rent from this agency. They have sent out 4 of their mainstreet techs to look at the dryer outlet, every single one says we need an electrician. They say theyll put an order in for one to come out and they never do. I call again and its been the same process EVERYTIME. I even contacted the email below and he said he would put an order in after the last guy did the same thing. Yet again they scheduled it to the same tech that was here last time.Deck finally got fixed after multiple calls and emails. They didnt even use the weather treated wood, good luck to the next few renters who will go through the same thing in the next 5 years.IF YOU WANT TO KEEP YOUR SANITY PLEASE GO ELSEWHERE. Ive called their service center at least 30 times over a 4 to 5 month span, all regarding maintenance. Most of their call center people are clueless.Update: Its been 4 months, deck still isnt replaced. I had nothing but issues regarding people coming out to the house to fix varies things. Some of the vendors are great, other barely ever will call you back. Our outlet for our dryer has been shorting out for 3 months now and nothing has been done about. I often have to call at least 3 times before anyone will come out to the house. I emailed the email provided below, about 2 weeks ago, havent heard anything back. The mountain of issues with this house keeps growing and I honestly regret going with this company. I counted the other day and Ive called their maintenance center over 25 times in 4 months!I love the neighborhood and size of our new place, except our moving in experience has been unpleasant. My partner and havent been in our place for a month and its been problem after problem.The place was suppose to be inspected before we moved in and considering the plumbing inspector arrived a couple days after we moved, its apparent this didnt happen. He said there was work that needed to be done. Never heard anything after that, until I reported a leaking pipe a couple days ago (the inspector came out almost 2 weeks ago). The downstairs reeks of mildew and the garage also has a leak ( the ceiling tiles in the garage around the leak have mold so its easy to see theres a leak).The lawn hadnt been mowed in 3 months according to the neighbors and it appears to be true.The deck is completely rotted and my fiance already fell through once. This problem has been addressed and cant completely blame them for it going unnoticed since it on the side of the house and not directly connected to the back door.Then today tops it all, the gutters havent been cleaned in forever so now the backdoor is flooding the back room because the gutter is emptying right in front of the door.The application process and our agent that we dealt with was great, but its obvious there was a lot left undone before we moved in.

I was told when I moved in they would fix the ice maker that didn’t work. Then once I moved in, they told me the don’t service ice makers. I then call and the guy said yes, we are responsible for it. Long story short, they don’t care to help good tenants or keep their word when they assure you it will be fixed and to go ahead and move in . I’ve leased from Conrex and I can honestly say they have them beat on helping. This company literally doesn’t care.

The Birmingham office was not all that great when I first started renting, but the newest staff they have now are great!!!!Latoya, Robert, Jackie , the maintenance guy that came out the past two times to do the ceiling (can’t think of his name) and Miyoka have played roles and helped out in capacities that were not their responsibility, but just had willing hearts for the company. For that I’m grateful. Sure wish you guys were the ones I contacted during all of my “let downs and poor communications” issues with the company. I get a text that they schedule a maintenance work order and I immediately reschedule it via email as instructed, but a technician is scheduled out to my house anyways. The following Friday the technician told me that they tried to charge us $100 because he came out and he then told me that he told them not to do that because it was a mix up on their end. But somehow we get the charge anyway. Horrible!!! I need to talk to someone asap!Over 2 weeks later, Ive yet to get a follow- up email nor a call. However Ive made several calls and emails to the company to no avail.

I have thoroughly enjoyed being a resident with this company. If I did not have to move due to personal circumstances, I would have happily resigned another lease. The home that I leased was in great condition and maintenance was the best. I did not ever need to call the office, except for if I elected to. Ms. Daniels in Residential care is the best. She was very helpful during the move out process and continues to be of assistance to me, even now that I have moved out. I appreciate this company and would definitely consider them if I return to Birmingham.

It would take several days for someone to come out for maintenance requests. They also will keep most of your deposit that you put down no matter what the house looks like when you leave. I would advise you to find a different company to rent through if at all possible

We have been renting from main street for 2yrs. I havent had major issues until recently. I sent in request to have someone check a dead tree on property and a electrical issue. To make matters worse the tree I reported sent a limb flying down and shattered my husbands front window. We called to have homeinsurance pay for damages. They claim it was an act of nature and they wouldnt fix it. No sir, it was because of that dead tree in yard. I Will never recommend anyone to rent from them besides thats not doing good business. Especially with the amount of money they charge. I make sure to keep house in order and fix any small problems but they can ask me to fix a window their dead tree caused damages to.

I became a resident on February 1, 2020 and Covid-19 hit the next month. MSR did not say you just moved in so we cant help you, instead they gave me an opportunity to defer my rent 2 months. My home is a new remodel so a couple of things were discovered that needed addressed by maintenance and every time I called during Covid-19 they came out. I love my home and Main Street Renewal.

This is third time we have had this problem when I tried tell the repair man what the problem was.It was a wire going to the garage that was above ground and had worn spots in it causing it to fault.maybe they will fix it this time so my car is not stuck in the garage.

Ive recently signed a lease with this company. The day of move in, I do my walk through that I was told to do prior to moving in any of my belongings, only to find that as I walked down the stairs into the basement, that the stairway was blocked by the airducks connected to the AC unit. Mind you its a Saturday that I move in. Contacted the company on that following Tuesday, AC repairs are still not done as of today. Ive put in numerous work orders for the same repair. A representative contacts me after each work order and assures me that once the bid is in someone will be out to repair.Its mid April in Alabama, thermostat stat has read a temp of 76 or more. Its hot AF. I cant rest and I am feed up. Let me not pay rent and pay for repairs.. My belongings, will be put out on the streets.After reading these reviews, I wish I had read them prior to going through this company. All I want is a working AC unit. May is a few weeks away. I have 11 more months to be here..😣

I am extremely upset!!! Nancy Jordan is the rudest person Ive ever had contact with in my life. My initial contact with her began and ended with her speaking over me in a manner like Im a child. She is supposedly handling my application but when I asked about a refund on my application fee(because they are taking too long to process my application) and to speak with her supervisor she hung up on me. Ive explained that my current unit was disqualified and I need to move expeditiously. Im withdrawing my application and refuse to rent from somebody who treats potential clients in this manner. Like do you not realize Ms. Nancy that tenants are the reason you get a paycheck. Im so disappointed because Msrenewal does have nice properties but Ill take my $1200 somewhere else.

I initially saw a house in Midfield I was possibly interested in and set up an appointment to go and view it . I even took off half a day so that I can make this appointment as if youre late to the appointment you would be charged a late fee . I went to check out the home and waited almost 15 minutes for the lady to come . We viewed the home but she kept trying to tell me about another property , etc etc. Before we left she asked if I could follow her to another house that I may like better which was about 10min away. I didnt like the home at all but I remember the agent telling me that they had more homes in the Hueytown area . The agent quickly text me an application but I continued to look . After finding a house in Midfield on there website that wasnt ready for viewing yet my brother and I applied for the home bc it was nice from the photos and I had stopped by to check it out myself . Paid the $80 sent in all my information and was contacted my Robert Bickerton who told me and my brother how he needed to fill in his portion of the application and uplod his documents. Well the link he sent wasnt working and I tried to explain that to him and all he emailed me back please see the email I sent earlier I then had to call in and speak with someone else and explain and they reset the link for me . I saw where my credit had been checked and I said ok maybe they are moving along with the application process . I get a email the next day stating that we had been denied but he couldnt give me a specific reason but did say it s probably your rental history and Rentgrow will be in contact with you on a couple of days to tell you why you were denied I contacted my landlord whom I have been renting from for 10 years and asked her had they called bc she is expecting them to reach and she said no one ever called her for my rental history . I even emailed ROBERT back to ask him what he meant about rental history so I can tell him no one ever checked mine in the first place. He never responded back nor said anything else that may help is else to get into that home or another home .Long story short I didnt appreciate the way that things were handled and I felt as though I paid $80 for them to run one thing and that was it .Im so glad that we found another home with another rental company and had proof that they did employment verification as well as rental history verification . We will be moving into that home at the end of the month .So it youre on the search please consider other companies before giving them your money .
