I’ve been a tenant for just shy of 4 years now, their team is fast to respond, never argumentative or trying to blame me for normal maintenance issues that happen. My pet cat has been safe to explore, the neighbors have all been easy going. I have left art projects outside for weeks at a time and never been scolded or berated by them or anyone, nor even had something stolen. It’s been a healing place, my Barkley Home, and I just wanted to let prospective people hear that from me!

I rented one of the properties in San Marcos and loved every minute of that year. I would’ve stayed longer if not for the pandemic affecting my funds. They were always very responsive on issues and super understanding when I had to put off moving out for a couple weeks because of extenuating circumstances. I would definitely rent from them again and recommend anyone to do the same.

John and Medora are amazing landlords. Whenever I had an issue with the house and their technician couldnt come out, John would take time out of his day to drive all the way down from Austin to figure out what was wrong (Im in San Marcos).The thing that separates these two from other property companies is that they actually have souls. They let me out of my lease without any extra charge after my grandfather (my employer) passed away. Instead of looking at me as a number, they treated me as a human being.Our house was amazing, rent was reasonable, and overall I had a great experience with them. If you see negative reviews on these two, it is likely because others were being unreasonable.Id highly recommend Barkley Houses!

Barkley Houses (John & Medora) are wonderful landlords! We leased with them for 7 years and they were attentive, quick, and extremely accommodating. Ryan in the office is great, and Daniel, their maintenance manager is great too. They really care for their properties and their tenants. Ill miss renting from them, and if we hadnt relocated wed still be there.

The Barkleys are great landlords and their staff is great too. They have been flexible, kind, and have promptly repaired anything that needed fixing. I would 100% rent from them again if I move back to Austin.

Update: The response below from Barkley is false (and creepy). They never had a professional of any kind come out to fix anything and I was there for 2 years not several. I found Ms Barkley to be unreasonable, irascible, controlling and overall unprofessional. I was a compliant tenant and always paid the first of the month. When the heating broke during an historic cold front they refused to hire a professional to fix it, dragging the maintenance on for days. Our building was infested with roaches (they dont do any pest control) and deteriorating, yet they just keep raising rent. There are cheaper and nicer units in the neighborhood that come with MUCH nicer landlords. Avoid Barkley Houses.

Ive been living in a Barkley House for about four months now and have appreciated the fast response time when Ive needed household repairs. The duplex unit Im living in is older (I think the house was built in the 50s or 60s, as were most of the houses owned by Barkley), so there are inevitably a few issues, but Ive always been able to get the major ones resolved by emailing Peggy, the property manager. The biggest issue my boyfriend and I had was a giant crack that started forming in the kitchen due to rotting floorboards, but when we emailed Peggy, she was able to have a repair person come out to the house the very next day and completely replace the kitchen floor in the time we were at work. Barkley Houses takes a lot of the stress out of renting.

I leased with them for two years and they were a pleasure to work with. Quick on repairs. They also said they went easy on me as far as my deposit goes since I was a good tenant, and I believe it.
