What an incredible experience, between Terri fielding my phone calls for booking and all the questions I had, to Ray taking us out and putting us on fish! Had a great time salmon fishing in Alaska with Ray. It has always been on my bucket list of things to do since I was a kid growing up watching Curt Gowdy fishing Alaska. It did live up to all my expectations, from the fishing to the scenery. Ray put us on the fish! Thanks to Fishermans Choice Charters!

We had a great experience with Fishermans Choice. Adding a salmon fishing excursion to our Alaskan honeymoon was high on my husbands list, and he selected Fishermans Choice from a strong field of competitors. They were extremely easy to work with and communicated well leading up to our trip. I had zero fishing experience, so I was nervous going out, but Captain Doug set me at ease quickly. He kindly, patiently, and respectfully instructed me on how to get going, and he put in extra effort to help me when I ran into difficulties with my rod.Although the fish just werent biting that day, Doug invested considerable time and energy to give us the best shot at catching salmon; he really went above and beyond. My husband did land a small fish, which Doug efficiently filleted for us, making for some tasty breakfasts later in the trip. We both feel that our money and time were well spent, and we would definitely book Fishermans Choice again on future trips.

My wife and I did the 5am river charter on 8/9/21. Terri made signing up incredibly easy and kept us updated regularly on where we were supposed to meet Doug to go fishing. Our guide, Doug, was incredibly knowledgeable and put us on fish quick. I caught my first silver in 5 minutes. We caught a couple on spinners, but After about an hour of not getting many bites, Doug switched us to salmon roe bait and my wife and I, along with the other 3 on the charter limited out on nice silvers in another hour. The scenes on the river were gorgeous and the price was right. If you want to catch fish, you can’t go wrong with fisherman’s choice. We had the best time.

The most INCREDIBLE fishing trip. Five of us went fishing for the first time, and with Rays help we ended up with these five 20lb+ king salmon for each one of us. Ray knows exactly the spot where all the salmon are and makes sure that even novices can go home with a fish. 1000% recommend and will most definitely be back when I come back to Alaska!

We booked our 5 am 1/2 day fishing trip with Terri, who was extremely helpful and gave us tips on what to see around town, places to eat. The day of the trip we met Ray, our guide, very nice and really funny man. He was telling us stories about the area, the river, showing us the wildlife around. He was very patient throughout the trip, kept an eye on everyone at the same time and made sure to give everyone instructions to help us get the fish. We tried different spots for fishing, while we were having a great time, we couldn’t get any fish until it passed our booked time, but Ray was relentless and insisted to try one last spot, where everyone got an amazing King Salmon. He made sure all of us caught a fish! Thank you Ray and Terri for such an amazing time!

My husband and I enjoyed this fishing experience very much! Our guide was very patient and helpful. He was friendly and courteous! We enjoyed the scenic ride on the river! We loved the salmon! The office was quick to respond to our inquiries and gave us beautiful clear directions to the state park. The whole experience was amazing!

I setup Fishermans choice for a fishing experience when my boss came up from the lower 48. We had a great time our Captain put us on the fish and we pulled in the limit quick. He is knowledgeable of the fish and techniques to catch them. An all around great guy as well. I quickly noticed that the Salmon run was poor and the places I was familiar with werent even open to fishing, so I decided to pay for a guide. I figured a local professional would have some insights about where to find a few fish. I figured wrong. We were picked up right on the side of Glenn Hwy into a river of sludge for a half mile boat ride up the sludge river where we anchored for 4 hours and never got a bite until it was time to leave.

My wife and I found Fishermans Choice Charters online, and the ratings were excellent. We called and talked with Terry, who answered all of our questions and signed us up for a Monday trip beginning at 11am. With our receipt, we received directions to find the boat dock on the Susitana in Houston, Alaska. Ray, our guide, was already there and ready for us. Ray was immediately friendly, and answered all of the questions we presented. We had to wait a few minutes for another couple from Kansas who were joining us from their cruise. Once our party was complete, we boarded and had a nice trip down the river to Rays favorite fishing spots. I hooked a nice 10-pound Coho immediately, but the fishing hole dried up pretty quick. After trying a few other spots, and enjoying some colorful coaching from Ray on the best techniques for casting, Ray found us a great spot. Ray said we would not leave until we caught our limit! I immediately hooked a 20-pound Chum which presented an excellent fight. We all tagged out, with Coho ranging from 9-12 pounds (we could only catch 2 Coho each). After a nice ride back to the dock, Ray filleted and bagged our catch. If you are serious about getting some great salmon, Fishermans Choice Charters does a great job...our thanks to Ray and Terry for making our fishing trip memorable! A well-deserved 5-stars!

Captain Ray runs a great fishing operation in in the Mat Su Valley. Terri communicates exceptionally well by phone and email. They have a very nice river boat, spotless & very well equipped. Most importantly, he knew where to find lots of big beautiful Silver salmon. We landed 12 Silvers during the trip and a 5-6 more escaped. An absolutely great experience. I highly recommend Fishermans Choice Charters! Cant wait to go again!

Great time had with my family. Took my wife and kids out with Ray. We met early in the morning and within 25 minutes we had 2 silver salmon on at the same time. We didnt have much experience in fishing before meeting with Ray, and we are hooked! We had our limit of salmon for 4 people within 3 hours. Ray made it a very successful day for us and will be coming back to fish with Ray next time we travel to Alaska.Make sure to call Terri and tell her you want to fish with Ray, he is a great fishing guide and will put on the fish, experienced or not.

Called a few different charters before finding this one and Terri was VERY friendly and made me feel confident in my decision to use them as our guides. Id been to Alaska fishing before but it was my wifes first time so I wanted to impress her. We fished with Joel which is one of our guides. Between his immediate friendly personality and good attitude I knew we were gonna have fun ( the Louisiana accent was a bonus)! We went out on a morning trip and after just a short boat ride Joel immediately put us on the fish. Extremely satisfied with this company and their crew. Price was excellent

My husband and I have fished with Fishermans Choice for the last 8 years. As far as we are concerned, they are the only charter to go with when it comes to knowledge and fun.We enjoy the trips every time we go and plan on fishing with them every time we come up to Alaska.Hopefully the fishing this year is as good as it was last year!

My husband and I left free time in our vacation schedule in case we wanted to do something different or nothing at all. After Halibut fishing in Juneau and Halibut and Salmon fishing in Homer, we wanted to fish again. However we only had half a day- the next day! We figured with the season on the upswing everyone would be booked and we wouldn’t be able to book a trip. But I decided to try anyway. I found Fisherman’s Choice on the internet and they were highly rated. I called and talked to Terri who was able to get it booked for us!We went out with a group of 4 and Doug was our guide. He was great! Very knowledgeable and nice. He explained where and why we were fishing where we were. We went out on the Knik River. After about 30 minutes one of thegot a King. So he was done fishing because he caught his limit. After about 2 hrs of no bites he moved us on the river. Then one more got a King so they were done. After about 30 minutes he moved the boat again and started drifting us. Then my husband caught a King, and a bit later I caught one. The other two on the boat did not get anything. We caught some beautiful King Salmon of good size. Mine had the line so hard I thought I was caught on a log. My husband and Doug said no keep reeling it’s a fish! Boy was it ever! It fought hard too!But it was just nice fishing on the river and as fishing goes- you don’t always catch.Doug was very professional and the boat and equipment were great! Will definitely call them the next time we come!!!!

We drove 6 hours for what was represented as a trip in which plenty of trout, dolly varton and king salmon are caught. It would have been nice to be advised beforehand that keeping anything besides king salmon would be discouraged and that IF we caught a single king salmon, we were done for the trip!! Finding that out at the beginning of the trip was discouraging from the get go. All three of us are army helicopter pilots and this was the equivalent of you booking a sightseeing trip in a helicopter and showing up and us telling you, “the helicopter isn’t working today, sorry but there was no guarantee of actually leaving the ground, but thanks for coming out and giving us your money!” We went a half mile in a flat bottom boat to drop our lines in the water 20 feet from shore and stare at each other for 5 and a half hours, half of it in the cold rain. When you pay good money for a guided experience you expect some kind of result, not an experience we could have had by walking half a mile down the bank with our own fishing poles!! We are not some idiot tourists from a cruise ship who want to take a selfie with a fishing line in the water and say we went fishing in Alaska on our social media. We have plenty of stocked ponds with trout around Fairbanks and rivers full of grayling. You’d better believe if I call myself a guide and charge people their hard earned money that I’m gonna make sure everyone goes home with a fish!! At no point in our trip was the general location or method of fishing varied whatsoever. This whole experience has left our group with a horrible impression of both Alaskan “guides” competency and Alaskan natives’ credibility and ethics. We feel that the trip was badly misrepresented and certainly many aspects of the trip were left unstated until we were in the boat. That you aren’t immediately offering to refund our money only confirms our concerns about your money gathering operation down there! I speak for our group when I say that this was the worst outdoors sporting experience we have ever been a part of and made what should have been a fun Memorial Day weekend a disappointing one in which we felt swindled and ashamed of our stupidity in trusting your operations.

Capt. Ray was very professional and found all the great fishing holes. All the fishing equipment used is top notch, and the whole experience itself was a complete blast. I am looking forward to going again.

Horrible experience, unethical people thinking the salmon run all year long. All they want is your money. As you sit on the boat hearing his b.s. stories, by the end we just wanted to get off the boat! Completely not worth it!! Every other Alaskan person we talked to said we were taken for a ride. The fish we fished for weren’t even running. Completely tasteless! And when confronted Terri copped the worst attitude.

As my son Tyler said Captain Ray is a results oriented! If the fish are there, they are yours ! Ray will not only put you on them he will make sure when you hookem the majority of them make it to your cooler. Terri is a fun person to book your trip with. Together, they make you have a memorable trip! Fished the Little Su in early Aug. cant go wrong. Was a great trip for my whole family and relatives as well. Had such a great time my brother and his family from Atlanta are fishing with Ray this summer! Trip of a lifetime !

What a awesome dream that came true fishing with Ray at Fishermans Choice. Not knowing anything about Salmon,much less fishing for them, Ray took the time to answer all the questions. he showed us the how to do & don’ts, & had a awesome sense of humor to lighten up the tension of Rookie mistakes made on our part. The first morning we had our limit within 45 minutes including the comfortable boat ride while looking for Moose. The next morning it took a touch longer with 2hrs until limited out. As soon as we started out on the second morning Ray pointed out a cow moose standing in the river, which was so cool to see. Ray made sure the inside of the boat was clean after each salmon was brought in the boat which is good safety due to the amount of blood the salmon loose. We used very nice equipment & his boat is in top shape. I had talked to Terri back & forth for 5 mouths and even while we are up here, she has been so helpful from booking the trip to places to stay & things to go do. I would recommend them to any of my family & friends, if they wanted to catch fish & have fun doing it. For those of the reviews that wasn’t happy with them must no fish much at all. There are days when you slay them & days when you can’t catch a break & get them to bite. We where the first ones to leave out every morning & the first ones returned with satisfied customers.Thanks Terri & Ray for making our first trip to Alaska so positive that we are wanting to come back & fish with Y’all again.We stayed for a 3rd day & fished with Ray. Now knowing what was needed on our part we wore the salmon out & had blast while at it. Ray is a awesome guy & fun to cut up with. First ones out & first ones back with all Fat bellies for the grill. Booked with Terri, last minute, and we are glad we did. Ray took us out and we had such a great time. The scenery was amazing and even though we started to get discouraged half way through trip, WAM BAM!Fish On!! I landed my first Alaska King Salmon. So there I sat, waiting for my wife......I took some outstanding pictures of the surrounding beauty, we even saw a moose walking along the river and saw an eagle come down an swooped on a small fish and got it. Better than any National Geographic magazine photo. About 30 minutes before we were heading in, my wifes rod comes slamming down. I tell you what...that was an experience in itself. I was more excited for than she was and she was pretty darn excited. Thank you Terri for getting us out fishing, and thank you Ray for a once in a lifetime adventure with our fishing trip in Alaska.This is going to be a topic at future family gatherings and BBQs for a very long time. Weve known Fishermans Choice for years. Ray is one of the best guides in the valley and there is no one that will work harder to put you on the fish than Ray. Their half day charters are super convenient if youre in the Anchorage area.

Fishermans choice charters is by far the best charter service fishing the rivers around the Anchorage area. I have fished with Ray and his guides for many years and will be going back again this year. Without question, Ray knows better than anyone in the valley where the fish are hanging out and the best way to catch them. If you have not fished with Ray yet you are misssing the boat.

First time Ive ever been dissatisfied enough to write a review. We paid over $1,300 to fish with this company over the course of 2 days and didnt get a single bite let alone a catch. The river they usually fish out of closed early this year, which is understandable. However, they failed to mention that we were fishing a different river until we were on the boat. The river was complete garbage, I wouldnt have paid a dime to be on it. They should have given us notice so that we could at least explore other options. I expected to have my payment reduced or refunded. When I called the lady and asked she gave me attitude and said it wasnt her fault. If you use this company make sure you are fishing the Deshka and not some other river. Their fishing reports/pictures on their website are from the Deshka.

In responce to Terri claiming there were no photos from April she should check her own web site.On April 9, 2018 thee is a photo of a man and a little boy holding a salmon. Every other photo is from 2017.We are not bashing simply ststing facts.Our guide Rays releaving himself in front of all 4 of us was the cherry on the cake.Checking fishing reports and being an honest ethical guide would go along way.I understand there is mo guarantee but being ethical and telling us when booking that there was a slim to none chance of getting a fis in May would have been the right tjing to do considering they arent even running yet.Giving the consumer the option would have gained alot of respect.Being a business owner myself I pride myself on honesty and always leave the choice up to my customer.We spoke to several local vendors from piolets who fly to the back country to bartenders who have lived there their whole life. Not one of them said they would fish for Salmon in the Knik river this time of year. All of them said that the salmon dont start running till mid June to early July.Honesty....must be a foreing word.

We have been fishing with Capt Ray many times and its always been an awesome experience!

I booked Am charter for 3 June 22, 2016. We arrived at meeting place 4:15 Am and guide was ready for us to load up and go. 3 others were also on the charter. I have fished the Deshka River several times in the 50 years of living in Ak. Boat and motor top quality but my spinning reel the bale did not function properly. I fished for 45 minutes and caught first King which I told our guide to release. One hour later I hooked small jack which tossed the hook. A few minutes later I hooked and landed a 23 pound King. I kept it then got to watch the other 5 clients fish. It was 8 am and we had nearly 3 more hours of fishing. One of my fishing partners hooked up and landed about 27 pounder on eggs. I had given my rod with lure to another client who hooked up a fat 25 pounder and landed it. I would use this charter company again but bring my own rod, reel, and lures as our guide had 48 years less experience than me. I suggest you bring your own hook sharpener as our guide loaned his to the other guide( charter boat owner) an did not get it back. 3 of the clients never hooked a King. One client had lived in Ak over 50 years. He tried several different lures without any luck. The other 2 clients used cured salmon eggs as bait without luck.

I really want to experience it.
