They’re in the midst of a remodel, but the facility isn’t the only thing that needs improvement. Although, the facility definitely needed more work done before reopening, specifically the fact that the exit sign in the theatre is not at all illuminated. The staff seems unable to communicate anything clearly. The popcorn is stale, and the sodas have an odd flavor because of the specialty flavored coke machines. No cash is accepted, and tickets have to be purchased on the mobile kiosk, which rarely work conveniently. Visit the Jordan Commons location if you want to patron a megaplex.

I have been coming here for years. The facility is well maintained. They always have the most current movies. Even with the pandemic they are still open and they are taking appropriate measures to protect all from Covid. This theatre is a staple of the gateway. I am sure u will be returning. I recommend.

The website listed my auditorium as luxury, it was not. There were 10 luxury seats but that hardly makes the whole room of multiple hundred seats luxury. Was not given validation for my parking because I ordered online.Concessions closed around 1030 pm even though there were showings until around 1am for a blockbuster filmAND to top it all off, some engineering genius decided that the actual luxury seating needed always on bright blue leds smack dab in the middle of the theater facing all the fools who didnt pay for recliners. Image attached. That isnt a cell phone in that picture. People using their phones gave off less light.

I absolutely love this theatre. The seats are very roomy recliners where you can lay your chair back with 2 buttons one for the head and one for your legs and adjust how you like.when sitting up theres another button to move them both at the same time...very large arm rests with a drink holder and then a good size table with a drink holder that swivels inward to set across in front of you or outward to not be in your way when getting up or sitting down. And the movie screen is pretty big. The sound quality is great. If you like sitting more towards the back you have to walk up stairs. Theres only a few rows that are at the level of entry and down a few steps or the row at entry...most are up stairs from the entrance. At least the theatre that I was there to watch the movie. And the movie I watched was a pretty good movie. The Gentlemen with Mathew McConaughey.

Went to the early movie today and ended up having to leave in the middle of the movie due to a family emergency. I approached the staff asking if we could get passes to come back another time, explaining that we had an emergency. They were very helpful and friendly. The manager gave us passes, plus a free large popcorn coupon and wished us the best with what was happening. It has been an emotional day, but wanted to take a minute to say thank you for being so helpful and kind. It really was needed, especially in that moment. We will definitely be back.

I’ve been to this theater a few times. It is an “alright” place, meaning it is a movie theater, and ever since City Creek opened up, which is like a glitzier, fancier, cleaner, less homeless people version of the gateway, the gateway mall has gone downhill quite a few hills ago. They MUST be losing money. I bet, year over year, their ROI has been tanking, and their marginal retail investment ratio has been like below 15%.Like, I walked through and there were all these weird stores that I’ve never heard of. I don’t even remember their names, but I remember that I don’t know them. They do have a Dave and Buster’s, which is nice, but it’s not really a place I could see two people falling in love. This is more like a place that I would go to shop if I lost my job and someone slipped something in my drink at the restaurant because they wanted to take me out (kill) but I saw the look in their eye as they walked past, so I was able to run out of the restaurant, but I was totally disoriented and didn’t recognize my surroundings (Gateway) because it just is not a very nice place to be anymore. But the movie theater is still there, so you gotta give them credit. The buying tickets experience is cool. You pretty much give the people cash or your credit card and they give you a movie ticket (IT’S THAT SIMPLE PEEPS), and then you go sit in a dark room with a bunch of strangers (if you’re watching a good movie. If it’s a craappy movie then you might be in a huge dark room all alone) and watch the movie. I don’t usually watch very many movies, but when I do, I consider where I want to go carefully, and I have been to this place at least once in the past few years.

Its like someone took a movie theater and decided to maximize the number of advertisements until everyone went insane. On our visit, I clocked in 23 minutes of previews of which half were local adverts. It became so bad my wife and I were rolling our eyes each time it seemed like the movie would start... But nope, better squeeze in another advertisement. You arent even shielded from them in the bathroom, they are plastered on the doors. Just bad, bad, bad. Nice movie theater. The seats are comfortable but not like the reclining seats in some theaters. Lots of options for movies. Parking avalanche in a parking garage for a small parking fee. Meh. I just have such little motivation to go to the theater anymore. I visited twice recently to see newly released movies. Both were fine experiences however the employees arent very helpful with parking validation (which costs a dollar). Since its pretty slow/empty here often it seems they like to chat with those they find interesting while keeping others waiting in line unnecessarily. Also, they shouldnt charge for validation when parking is free. I paid for it then when to exit and no fee was required. Kinda scammy if you ask me.

This evening my husband and I wanted to go to see captain marvel. We got into the movie and there was someone sitting in the theater with two large suitcases next to us. After about a few minutes, my husband and I went to go address the issue with the woman checking tickets. She did not seem to know what I was talking about. She then told me to ask the managers, and they were not aware of it, either. We are extremely disappointed with the security and rule enforcement here. We ended up leaving the movie because of it.

Review №41

To be honest, I only really look for movies to be affordable, and for the theater to be clean, so I really dont think that this theater is all that different from others, except for one key aspect: they have salt packets here. I love to get popcorn with my movie, and nothing puts me in a sour mood faster than communal salt shakers. Only movie theaters run by sociopaths would do this to their customer base. But the Larry H. Miller Megaplex is obviously taking customer concerns into the continued improvements of their operation, and for this, I emphatically commend them.

Always convenient seeing the newest box office hits Megaplex-style and not having travel very far to do so. If you live in downtown Salt Lake City then choosing this theatre is never a bad idea. A new low has been reached....showing ads in between trailers. Showing ads after the specified showtime has passed is unconscionable. How could anyone think its ok to show ads to an audience during an experience that theyve already paid for? Its a terrible solution to a dwindling revenue problem...make the experience more satisfying, not less satisfying and maybe your returns will improve. Until then I predict Regal and Cinemark (both are trying this out) will start to lose customers at a faster rate.

Sound system good. Service good. So why am I giving a negative review? The lights in the theater were on too bright!! No theater have I ever experienced this. I even had to walk out and tell one of the employees to turn it down. They did nothing. Im assuming that this particular stadium was older and didnt have floor lighting and needed the lights to be at a certain brightness, which I understand, but it ruined the entire movie experience. Furthermore, since it was an older stadium the seats were completely antiquated and outright filthy. Needless to say, I will not be returning.

Have lived a couple of blocks away from this theater for 5 years and consider it one of the reasons why I love living downtown. I can hit a matinee on the spur of the moment and am guaranteed smiling customer service crew, and lines that if they are present at all, move along rapidly and efficiently. The theaters arent brand new but that can be a plus because I think it means the people who work there are experienced and familiar with the equipment, the facility, etc. In probably more than a hundred different films the movie experience has been lovely. Comfortable seat, sound and picture are excellent. Gateway isnt the newest star in the Megaplex sky but it is one of the wonderful reliable places you know you can return to over and over and know you will have a great time doing what you wanted to do: See a Movie!

We go to this movie theater several times a week, but today we planned our day around seeing The Grandmaster in theater 5, only to sit down in our seats and find out that one of the speakers was blown out. When we notified the manager he said, We know about the problem. When I asked why we werent told about the problem when we bought our tickets the manager said, Most people dont notice it. We said that was unacceptable and asked for a refund. He did give us a refund, but he acted really put-out. He never apologized and he kept saying, Well, most people dont notice it. So, this theater has no problem selling tickets to a broken theater and not telling its customers. Ive never had such terrible customer service at a movie theater. I love movies, and when a theaters sound is messed up, its a problem and detracts from the movie experience. So warning: theater 5 speakers are blown out and the management here is really disappointing.

Megaplex at the gateway is nice because it is so close to downtown. It is in a weird place because the Gateway Mall has seen a lot less traffic in the last couple years with City Creek Mall opening a few blocks away. There are some stores still, but lots of empty store fronts. So sometimes the movie going experience is just that.It is also close to the main homeless services area on Rio Grande. It is safe, but anyone who has been to a city will know what kind of people might be around.

There is very limited parking in the underground parking garage for the theaters. The theaters will allow you to purchase a Paking Pass, that will save you some money, depending on how long you are parked. The theater screens are not very large, and seating has not been updated since the theaters opened. The staff is friendly, but concessions at the theater are more costly than some other theaters, and we purchased popcorn, a large drink, a pretzel and Redvines licorice. The popcorn wasnt great, but was passable. The pretzel was extremely doughy. The drink came from a self serve machine, but was really good, and there was no residue of previous customers drinks included, as sometimes happens from multidrink machines. The restroom, unfortunately was not recently cleaned, and we attended a Matinee at the theater.

Megaplex sets a high standard for the movie experience when new, however it looks like once a theater is built they fail to maintain it. The place is dirty and is in need of a good cleaning from top to bottom. The lighting is off and the speakers are worn out. I have written the local management, but it seems that they are not self starters and will only do what Megaplex HQ will let them do. Take some responsibility and clean this place up! For now I would avoid this place until they get their act back together. Go visit a Megaplex that is new, and you will have a great time.Hopefully someday this company will figure out how to maintain facilities.
