I wish I could put 0 stars. This might be the worst restaurant Ive ever been to, besides fast food places like taco bell. Definitely worst German food in Pittsburgh. I have to believe they paid for their reviews. The beer is still good but the only edible food was the sausage, too bad they dont bother providing decent German mustard. We got plastic in our mashed potatoes (that were powdered mash potatoes), a burger that wouldnt be passable at McDonalds, potatoe salad out a can or jar, and sauerkraut that was practically mush. I know Im in Pittsburgh so I dont expect it to be authentic like they advertise. Its just such a shame that people think this real German food. Having lived in Germany i would rate this food about as authentic as taco bell is authentic Mexican. If your going there for the beer, youll be good to go. Otherwise, go anywhere else.

Second visit. Needed to go to Pittsburgh to pickup something. Naturally lunch at the Hofbrauhaus wasnt to be missed.Naturally a L of beer and spetzle was in the cards. Just as I expected. Not Michelin 5 star, rather just right, hot and tasty. Grandmas kitchen if you will.

Friday was our first time here, and we will definitely be back! Our waiter Curtis was awesome! He was always there to check on us, despite having a lot of other tables. They had live music, which gave the restaurant a fun atmosphere. The food was really good, but we couldn’t finish it all because we got pretzels for an appetizer which were really filling. There is a two hour limit for your table so more people can come, but that was more than enough time for our meal.

Took my son here for his birthday. So much fun!!! We waited forever to be seated and the service was slow but it really is a fun atmosphere and that made up for it. The server was nice and the food was good. Would definitely return. Wished they took reservations.

Very enjoyable experience. Attentive service, yet not overbearing. The salad with pan seared salmon was divine. A generous portion of salad. The piece of salmon was a tad small but it was perfectly cooked to medium rare. Beer samples too. Overall, I would go again in a heartbeat.

We have been going for years.. this time we celebrated my bday, family coming from out of town, our kids on their next chapters well you name it! It is always a fun experience with everyone from all diversity and backgrounds young and old just enjoying themselves dancing, singing, eating… I mean should put disclaimer IT IS LOUD. But fun. Prost!

Oh, I like so much this place! The food is super delicious, the service is perfect, I have a fantastic time with my family. But I would recommend to add for kid’s menu more organic food, for example “vegetables, just chicken” .But definitely I will visit again this restaurant

Right now they are very low on staff so you may have to wait a little while to be seated. We were told 35 minutes and we waited almost exactly 35 minutes. Definitely worth every second of the wait.The food was delivered so fast it was almost as if theyd been listening to our conversation except that all the wait staff was buzzing around like bees. The food was hot, freshly prepared and so very delicious.Plan on spending longer here than you would at any other restaurant, just to experience the ambiance and to enjoy your food and beer. Brewed on site, fresh poured and ice cold. So delightful!

My husband is a German National so I tried this place on a work trip & took some Hefe Weissen back to him. He really enjoyed the beer. However, he said the menu is Americanized German. Only a couple of items are true German dishes. The food was still good and unique offerings compared to most American restaurants that seems to be all the same.

Their food was pretty good and their Covid protocols were nicely done. They had shields between tables, everyone had a mask on, it was nice to see a place so compliant, I would definitely go back. There is outdoor seating along the water, and an open bar with nice barriers. The food seems a little pricy, but the atmosphere and serving sizes make up for that.

The food is great the the service is great. The atmosphere is like a German restaurant the beer selection is good and the beers are good. They have a nice selection of goods in their gift shop and the location is nice in a nice shopping section.

My boyfriend and I sat at the bar area. There were separators in place and distance between people. The food is great tasting, the atmosphere with the music is very festive and the wait staff smile, are happy and knowledgeable.

The only downside to this place is no parking. you can go down a few blocks and there is a parking garage though.the wait staff was super friendly and efficient. great beer of course (we have been to the real deal in Munich!) and the potato pancakes were great. this area of Pittsburgh has become quite eclectic.

The bier cheese is amazing on everything, and the cream puff is a must-have! Didnt try any alcohol but the menu is impressively extensive. The restaurant is clean with great atmosphere, especially during the live performances. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable about the menu options, and very attentive.

I had high expectations for this place and they were met! I wasnt able to enjoy German food often when I lived in NC, but now I can have it all the time. The beer and food were delicious. Our server was very attentive and kind as well. We sat outside and enjoyed the beautiful fall weather. It was a great experience all around. I cant wait to bring my family here when they visit.

The Hofbrāuhaus reminded me of some of the beer hauls I visited in Austria, the long tables and benches and the high ceilings. I really appreciate that they brew their own beer. My husband and I ordered a Dunkel and a Hefeweizen, both excellent and for our meal, we split the pork shank. It was so juicy and tender(actually falling off the bone) and was served with mashed potatoes and imported sauerkraut. When we were finished, there was nothing left but the bones. It was delicious. The restaurant is located nearby East Carson Street where you can find various restaurants and stores.

Better than the original. Great location, great atmosphere, great food, great beer! Inside the hall, there was live music, but it was too noisy to my taste. The outside balcony had more serene with a great view. For beer lovers, a must see place!

I had the worsted special. All of their offerings are good. Park at the lot with Indian signs on the outside. Your GPS will not get you there. When you cross the Hot Metal bridge, turn at the first right. It is on the Mon River.

We attended a rehearsal dinner here and the service was outstanding! This place was a very nice place and very good food.

Octoberfest beer and schnitzel were excellent this year. Great weekend for octoberfest. Hope next weekend is just as great

We love the view from the beer garden, and the pretzels and beers cheese are fantastic with the Dunkel.

Food was fantastic. Went on Mothers Day evening at peak time (7:45 pm) and because of the size of our party (13), we had to wait longer than the average party(about an hour) for a table big enough to accommodate us. Our waiter was very nice and knowledgeable of the German cuisine. He answered all our questions and made wonderful suggestions for items on the menu we might like to try.(It was our first time there. ) Other then the wait time, I had no complaints. And as I said, it was Mothers Day.

They have great food but the dessert is even more incredible. The cream puffs are giant. Plenty to share but Im not sure you would want too. I love my aunts German potatoe salad and they are pretty close

Fun experience with friends! They have long tables to accommodate larger parties. Indoor and outdoor seating. The beer is decent and the food is good. I recommend trying the giant pretzel and beer cheese or the beer cheese fries!

Had the great fortune of doing a service call to the kitchen a couple weeks ago. It was by far one of the cleanest kitchens I had ever been in. I made the vow to come back and sample the food. Today I did and was not disappointed. Food, service and atmosphere are amazing.

Very well done German beer house along the river in Pittsburgh. German styled liter and half liter beers and German food like giant pretzels, perogies, and more. Service was quick and great. They have nice covid protections too. Fun place for a fall drink.

Absolutely delicious! We will definitely be back! We ordered the sampler platter as an appetizer and the Munich sampler for the main and split it. It was a great way to taste the menu so we know what to order next time. I highly recommend the pineapple Weizen to drink and the apple strudel for dessert. SO GOOD!!

This is a great restaurant. The food is always delicious, the service is always good, and the atmosphere is good for both families and couples. Theres live music Friday and Saturday evenings. Indoor and outdoor sitting is available when the weather permits. Definitely worth a visit if you enjoy German cuisine.

Went here for dinner Saturday night. Beer and food were up to traditional expectations. Waiters were nice also. General manager was hurling racial slurs at people outside. Probably wont go again after hearing these things

Awful food, awful ownership. This place is a universe away from being anything close to inclusive and welcoming. The food is greasy, not authentic, and their beer is more water than anything else. Go to someplace where they actually serve German food (see Deutschtown) and don’t treat anyone as “other.”

Authentic Munich style German restaurant. Excellent beer selection along with the typical German favorites. Staff dress and music add to the feeling of being in Germany.

The food was delicious. We ordered an appetizer and our meals and drinks. She came back to the table with everyones drinks except mine (waters and sodas). Then when I asked her about it, she went to get it, but then asked my husband if he was going to order anything. We already gave her the order. Our food was brought out by someone else and I asked about the appetizer since we had not gotten it yet. He said he would check. He came back and said it would be right out. We were all eating our main dishes by the time it came out. We had to ask for our refills and even for the bill. The taste of the food more than made up for the service. Hopefully she was just having one bad day and things got better for her.

Really good custom service! The waitress was very attentive with our group. The food was good and the beer was great. Also the live music was adorable and nice to listen to.

Been here several times, theres nothing I wouldnt recommend. From the first scent of your appetizer to the belt loosening final bite. The food excellent and the staff is on point. They even have live entertainment again! I think its weekends only however. I didnt ask, but stands to reason.

We very much enjoyed our experience. The schnitzel was amazing and we loved the brats. We will definitely return soon. I look forward to trying all their different beers and other food. They were also awesome when it came to us bringing a stroller with our twins. Also, my wife has been to the original in Germany, and she said they did a good job emulating its feel. I hope to go to Germany soon and this experience only has me more excited.

Amazing brewery! Located near the south side theater, surrounded by a lot of options. None of the others are probably as fun and lively as this. It has live music, really loud and fun! The crowd participation is awesome and the enthusiasm is infectious.The food options are plentiful, with options for vegetarians as well. The beer selection is all brewed locally, and they have a monthly flavour. Really nice variety and they have some fruity beer flavors as well. I have no word for the desserts but awesome! The black forest pastry is one of the best Ive ever had! A must visit place when youre in Pittsburgh

The best. Since touring Germany with my family, Ive tried authentic German food in four states, and this is the best Ive had. I had the appetizer sampler and Munich sampler.

Pierogi was ok. The cabbage with it was pretty good. Excellent cheese with the pretzel. Festbier was meh.

HBH is a wonderful German-themed restaurant with a welcoming atmosphere and live music. You can sit outside with cover, without, or indoors. The staff are friendly and check-up at appropriate intervals. The food is real German and the appetizers are a meal their own. Add a gift shop and a plentiful selection of exclusive beers make this place a must.

We came here on a Friday night for dinner and had an amazing time! The food was excellent. The whole building makes you feel like youre in Germany! They also had an accordion player which added a great touch! Well be back hopefully soon!

We came in for a quiet lunch. Just missed the lunch buffet! Never knew they had one. We ordered as many different things as we could to taste everything. Everything tasted really well. The beer was great.

Literally everything is extremely sweet 🍬, from the cheese sauce on the pretzels 🥨 to the hamburger 🍔. the beer 🍺 mugs are comically large 🦣. the main area of the restaurant is very large and hollow, like a dining hall. Everyones voices are reverberating all over so everything is way louder than it needs to be. The waiters are going to try to upsell you while wearing suggestive outfits. Im not against wearing what you want to, but when the majority of your serving staff is female and the uniform is like that, people dont have a choice, and thats kinda weird. Maybe thats why theyre understaffed and theyve finally had to go to the last resort of hiring men on the serving staff

Sooooo good. Went for an early Friday dinner to avoid the crowd, it paid off! Easy bus ride from downtown, the 48 dropped us 3 blocks away. It was a beautiful afternoon and the food was just amazing. Had the potato soup and schnitzel sandwich with the pretzel app. Tried all 3 beers, didnt disappoint!

I love bringing company to Hoffbrau Haus. I used to love it even more when they served their French dip sandwich. It was one of the best I’ve had. Please bring it back. Not many others sell this sandwich and I go to HH just for this sandwich. Now that you removed it, I don’t go as often. This was so delicious!

Came here for a night out with my roommates. The atmosphere is really cool. I’ve been to the original Hofbrauhaus in Munich and this is a pretty faithful replica. The biggest drawback is the prices, with most meals being around $20. However, I got the cheapest entree on the menu, and it was one of the best meals I’d had in a very long time (Hofbrauhaus Hot Brown if you want to try it). And of course the beer was great!

Our food was room temperature at best & the portions were small. A tablespoon of mashed potatoes & a tablespoon of sauerkraut. The waiter was excellent.Our visit 2 years ago was much different & much better.

This place was AMAZING. We were supposed to be traveling in Europe for our 25th anniversary, but Covid-19 made different plans for us. They had outdoor covered patio seating with proper social distancing. The food was delicious. I loved the pierogies that were on the appetizer menu. Great food, great service. We will go back again!

Went to Hofbrauhauss today for lunch with 2 friends this was the 3rd time in the past 2 months when we were seated they put a paper on the table informing us we were only able to sit there for 2 hours. When asked when this policy started they said with covid. The past 2 times this not mentioned. Very disappointing to go for a relaxing time with friends to be watching the clock. We didnt stay walk to cheesecake factory. We dont know when or if we will ever go back

The dunkel beer is a 10 (Amber ales are my favorite,so maybe Im biased), but otherwise the food here really is just decent. Baked chicken was generally bland, salmon was also bland. The schnitzel with the mushroom gravy was good, but honestly Ive never had schnitzel and I couldnt understand how this was different than a breaded pork chop. Anyways, a friend of mine hyped this place up, and we were kinda disappointed. Its not cheap for a meal thats just decent overall.

Cool and vibrant place right on the river in Pittsburgh. Great service...just a well run place. All that said, I dont really like German food and Im not a dark/malty/wheat beer guy. Great experience, but I crossed that one off my list and likely wont go back... its me...not you I swear.

Definitely one of the better places to go for german food. Had the Bavarian Jaeger Schnitzel. Pork was delicious with mushroom gravy, potato pancakes and spatzel were great! Bier cheese is a must eat. Overall a really nice evening spent seated outside by the river.

Husband has been hyping up this place to me for years and even with the subdued atmosphere from Covid, this place has lived up to the hype. Amazing food, awesome decor, very friendly staff. 10/10 will visit again, at least to get the Apple Strudel if I cant get anything else - best ever!

I planned a dinner for my husbands 30th birthday here with a couple friends. We had a fantastic time. Our waitress, Carolyn, was phenomenal. She had everyone laughing and cheering and made my husbands birthday incredibly special. The food, drinks and service was wonderful. I highly recommend for celebrating birthdays or just a night out!

This was my first time coming here and I loved it. First off, we were greeted with hostesses in Bavarian costumes, which I thought was neat. (Im all for a theme and good costumes.) We waited about 20 minutes to be seated, but they were short staffed, which is completely understandable. Once we sat down it didnt take long for our waiter to take our drink order. He was very nice and pleasant and didnt hesitate to check on us. It didnt take long for our food to come to the table. I had the Jager Spaetzle and it was delicious. The food can be pricy, but with the amount they give you and how good it is, I think its worth it. (I ate half my food at the most.) 10/10 would recommend and come back again.

Really good authentic German food. Fun atmosphere and decor. Its a bit loud but everyone is having a good time. The heifeweizen is really tasty. I wanted to get desert but just didnt have enough room.

My mother-in-law is gluten intolerant and they had a lot of options. She loved the gluten-free beer!! I recommend letting them know before you order. They have gluten-free and vegetarian menus, but have to be requested. I loved the soft pretzel! On the weekends, they have an accordion player, who keeps the place very lively with German tunes.

Going to knock a star off for slow service but after a staff member attended to us everything went really well. The food was delicious and the beer selection had something for everyone.

The food is great, beer selection is quite good. Very broad and they give you a lot. The service is excellent, we were beer left for more than a fee minutes and even other tables servers greeted us.
