Since I was driving from 2.5 hours away, I really read the fine print and made sure I had all of my information ready when I got there. They found nothing wrong with my vehicle so the Internet Offer stayed the same. That may not be the norm, but my vehicle was in excellent condition, fully loaded and had low miles. For me it was an exceptional process and the internet offer beat the low ball offers in my local area. Only reason for 4 stars is it could have gone faster had they not had a trainee at the time. Still they all did great.

I got my offer online ahead of time and made my appointment to sell my car and I still spent over 2.5 hours at the dealership. I was assigned a sales person who clearly was not ready to be making sales on their own. He had to ask for the managers help several times to the point where the manager should have just stuck around to help him finish the sale. Very sad to see a manager let their staff struggle and act inconvenienced when they ask for help. Not to mention I was the last and only customer there. I was asked if I wanted to buy my new car through them and after this experience... absolutely not. I will definitely not be returning to this location.

I have been extremely pleased with the entire process of purchasing the vehicle (which I love). More than the purchasing process itself was the customer service post-sale which has been stellar and a bit of a surprise given the poor state of most customer service these days.First, there was no pressure at all to buy and the process was clear and unrushed.Next, after I bought the car, I noticed a small chip in the windshield and some very small scratches in the back by the trunk. They took pictures and said it would be handled so Safelite came out to the house and fixed the chip and the scratches were buffed out and spot-painted.While I was there, I mentioned to the service person that, in certain sunlight views, there seemed to be some spots within the windshield that were distracting. Not a big deal at all 90% of the time but I asked about them. He looked at it, agreed with me and did research with Mazda. He found out that they had some air bubbles in some model windshields but my ca did not qualify for Mazda recall and fix. He then said that CarMax was going to pay for it to get completely replaced which I hadn’t even asked for. His attitude and the quick resolution to my satisfaction is a story I have now told to everyone I know.Thank you, CarMax, for a fun process a and awesome customer service. I will be back.

Very disappointed with my recent visit. Everything seemed very transactional. The staff seemed friendly at first during the test drive experience but as soon as we went in to start the buying process, there was a big shift in energy and lack of attention. I also felt that as a minority, there was even less of an effort to establish a relationship and less effort to provide attention versus a non-minority couple that had arrived at exactly the same time and seemed to be getting exceptional service.This was my first visit, and I was ready to be a loyal customer, but needless to say, I walked out without a purchase and will not be returning.

Processing was terribly slow. Myself and about 4 other customers were trying to purchase vehicles, I believe we were there approx 3 hours for a transaction that was all put together before I arrived. Staff fumbled with the printers and appeared to need assistance from the manager with several steps in the process. Salesperson left us alone at least 10 times for 10-15 minutes at a time. Not sure where or what he was doing. Everyone buying a vehicle at that time seemed miserable with the process.Overall it made a 5 star experience in Schaumberg IL go down to a 1 star experience in Madison WI. Staff in Madison need training on how to process the paperwork efficiently. Perhaps it should take 3 hours to process the paperwork to buy a car? I had all my documents copied and ready when I arrived but it didnt seem to matter. I was told maybe 30 minutes to finish the paperwork once I arrived as I had gone through most of the Contactless process beforehand.

Originally order a Range Rover. Waiter 3 weeks for it to come in even though they told me it’d take 7 days. Was never contacted on why it was delayed. Finally after being lied to by customer service for a week I went in to the actual store for answers. Apparently they lost the title and couldn’t sell the car without it. I decided to get a Mercedes instead which I loved. What I didn’t love was the consistent smart comments by the sales person about him being shocked I could afford it on my own. Or how he was annoyed with my father inspecting the car before I purchased. I love my car and I got it for a great price. But aside from the manager the customer service is terrible. Associate told me I couldn’t get a remote start installed to my 2017 c300 Benz. When really I just needed to download the app and activate it from my phone.

This was honestly the best experience I have had buying a vehicle. The staff were wonderful. Gabe is extremely down to earth and not pushy at all. Not even 2 days later, I found a better vehicle, with more features I wanted. I had it shipped for free. Since I had just gotten the loan, when I tried to get a different one, the same loan company denied me and the other offers were way out of my price range. I was about to just say forget it and keep my original vehicle, but one of the managers got on the phone with my current loan office and explained to them that I was only transferring the vehicle to a different one, not buying another. He was able to get the loan manually pushed through, with the same offer as I had at first. I highly recommend this Madison location. They really do go above and beyond. They also definitely honor their 30 day money back guarantee. I know I am a lot happier with my 2nd vehicle and more features, then being stuck with the basic one I settled for at first.

I went to three dealerships to compare offers to sell my car, CarMax offered me $2,100 & $2,600 more for my car than the other two. Not to mention the interaction with Stephanie was great. She was friendly and knowledgeable. Selling my car to them (even though I didnt buy my new car there) was quick and easy. Overall a great experience.

The amount we received for selling our car was what we were quoted online so we were happy with that. The information of what documentation needed was good. The only complaint was the amount of time. We had made an appointment but had to wait a half hour before we began the transaction. Otherwise it was pretty good.

A lack of organization killed one deal then created a long delay in a second. The total reliance of CarMax on their computer system is inexcusable and nearly killed the second deal as well (their computer system went down). But it was the people that work at the Madison, Wisconsin CarMax that saved the day.

Called in advance and had to wait 90 minutes to be helped. By then my bank had closed. Nice lady helped, got my info to pictures you can stop in tomorrow and we will have paperwork ready and my manager will let you in before the store opens. I had to wait til 5 minutes after open to be let in so a 15 minute wait. No paperwork ready. No customer notes. Manager had no clue. And the sales representative I worked with this very last time after 3 days of back and forth was amazing and friendly and hes only been there for 2 months. Imagine being vastly out performed by the new guy when you refer to yourself as Im Practically a manager yet all you achieve is false promises and long waits.I would gladly give you a 0 star

Our sales person, Joel, was very friendly and detailed. Car max matched the purchase price offered online. Joel took down all of the specifics to the sale, including sending the title change to the out of state owner and getting her approval to cut and send the check to us. Unfortunately, the process fell apart when it went to the business office - title put to the side for two days, check made out incorrectly - and I’m still trying to get through to the business office this morning to get it fixed. So it’s probably a great experience if you don’t need anything special.

Right side front passenger tires had terrible hole marks in them. Air pressure light was on but was told I just need to put air in my tires. Didnt effect driving but by the time I got home and aired them up I saw the holes and tpms lights still were on.

Was somewhat satisfied with my experience Took an extremely long time to purchase the vehicle. (over 3 hours) Not a very good job of detailing before I received the car. Found a cigarette butt near the counsel after I did a walk through at home. Not sure how anyone could miss it. They also broke my license plate holder while going through the car wash.. I expected a call back from the company to see if everything was alright within a couple of days. Never happened. That was a first for me when buying a car. Might consider buying another vehicle from them, but only after checking out the competition.

I went to Carmax after receiving a quote online to sell my car. When I got to Carmax I was hesitant about how my visit would go. Before walking in I realized that they were very busy. Chuck greeted us right away (most likely with a smile behind his mask) and helped us with the process. He assessed my vehicle and walked us through every step. He was very kind, helpful, and a pleasure to work with. The experience I had was great and way better than I expected. Please make sure they do a thorough inspection of the vehicle you were looking to purchase. I’m now stuck with a vehicle that had way too many issues when I received it. When I tried to tell them about it I was told that it’s just the car adjusting which was a load of bull. Turns out I had a bad axel, 2 tires that had holes in them, as well as a bad fuel injector. I had to talk to three different managers and the general manager before they’d take a look at it. The only reason I gave 2 stars is because the gm made sure they paid for the repairs. By the way this was vehicle number two. The original vehicle I purchased had issues as well

I don’t know where to begin. Let’s just say I’ve been going through issues with this place for about 2 months now. Financing was done all wrong. Staff not very knowledgeable. It’s just been a mess. Car Max sold me a 2017 Nissan Altima. I have had the car less than a year, and only drive to and from work on the highway, which is 90% of the miles. The back right tire leaks when its warm out. I bought this car in late September, so did not know until it warmed up. A loud annoying rattling sound started when I start the car within 2 months of buying the car. Now, the car is overheating, and has cost hundreds of dollars in repairs. Car Max will not do anything to fix this. The A/C unit does not work, im guessing this has to do with the overheating. I will never be buying a car from them again. I will also be telling anyone I see looking for a new car to not buy from Car Max.

I went in hoping to get enough for my car To pay off the lein holder, after about 15 minutes they came back with an offer that was more than I had hoped for. We signed up for curbside service due to the pandemic. We uploaded our do a and were told that all we would have to do is take the rest drive, sign the papers, pay the down payment and go.Didnt happen that way. We ended up having to come in and had to resubmit our docs FIVE times. We were there for 3 hours. The agent that worked with us was very new and you could tell he wasnt fully trained.Love the car but this was not a good experience.

This place has been a joke! From the first appointment waiting 45 minutes to be seen after our appt time, then the rep rejected our application for final paperwork (which they had not previewed before our appointment) due to a clerical error. We filled a whole new application that night to correct the address by adding an apt letter, and they tried to UP our down payment and our interest rate! After hour on the phone, in the lobby, the banks closed so, they will attempt to honor our deal tomorrow we are told-They offered to let us drive the vehicle home under a 24 test drive and were assured we could pick up the next day. Well after another decade of waiting, the rep finally comes out after they’ve closed their doors and tells us the gas tank is leaking! At that time, we went home disappointed but were told the vehicle would be sent to BMW for repair. We waited a week. Call to schedule the pick up, and make the appt. they called right before the appt to tell us the car won’t run now and they have to send it back to BMW! Wow. Mind blown at this point. We wait almost two full weeks, get a call the car is ready. Call on Wednesday and inform Carmax we will be coming in at 6:30 to pick up. We get here and no one is expecting us, no one can see us! No one even knows our damn names. Rather than be turned away, again, at this point I’ve made our disgust apparent to Chuck, who is no less than annoyed by us and giving no care to our experience. Still we sit here, an hour later, 7:30, hoping to take our car home by 8 when they close. Also, did I mention we paid upfront to have this car shipped here to Madison from Carmax in Chicago? How these people do any business is beyond me. I know we should leave, but my bf has had his credit run twice here now and just wants this experience to be over. Wish I could give them a zero.

I was humiliated and I feel as if I was discriminated against. It was multiple offensive things that happened yesterday. But I was approved through the bank.When we were about to finish things up Emily stated that her manger ( I watched he never picked phone up) called the bank and it didn’t fall through because I’m receiving weekly benefits from my employer but because I was injured the bank doesn’t accept “disability” which isn’t what I receive!!!! But it would’ve been understandable. but I contacted the bank and they don’t have any knowledge of this information and they’ve escalated this matter

This Carmax is the worst. I did all my paperwork and financing online and over the phone for curbside. It’s was 90% done and had to do it all over again with the store to be told “we have regretted to inform you and can’t do business with you” this is after 2 weeks of the run around and getting the car to Carmax in Madison. Thankfully I caught on yesterday and started a process somewhere else. My advice don’t deal with Carmax unless you’re selling a vehicle.

First, being able to search online, nationwide, for the car I wanted, rather than lot by lot at local dealerships, was a huge improvement on the old dealership business model. This is also true for the simple, upfront pricing method CarMax uses - no worries about being taken advantage of (which is especially concerning for women), or finding unreported problems with the car, or discovering hidden fees. The transport cost for the car I chose was reasonable. I wish it hadnt taken so long (2 weeks), but I blame COVID-19, not CarMax, for that. Everyone I worked with along the way was helpful - the person who expedited the transfer, the people at the local CarMax shop where I made the purchase. It went seamlessly, and the car is exactly what I wanted.

Long story short... I got approved for a car I liked but it needed to be shipped from less than 200 miles away. Okay at that point. I called a few days later and was told it should arrive the following Monday. I called Monday, it should be here today maybe it wasn’t checked in yet. After 25 minutes of talking to the call center and being on hold, I finally talked to a person locally. And this is where it went bad... Not only was the car never transferred it was no longer available and the person I was talking to seemed to care less and had no solution for me other than to ship a different vehicle after it’s been a week already. I never got to talk to the sales person, Emily Paulino, who just totally messed up this birthday present to myself. Nobody took responsibility and I’m sure no one will be held accountable. Very disappointing experience. 😔😔

After talking to a very nice person online and got approved for our loan. We found a SUV we liked online and they were going to have it shipped to the Madison location for us. They said it would be a week but it actually came early on a Friday. We show up to the dealership and we are looking at the vehicle only to be told they cant find the title. We also found a scratch on the back hatch of the vehicle that wasnt there in the pictures. They said they would look into getting the title and taking care of the scratch and call us back on Monday. Monday came and went. Tuesday came and went and heard nothing. I called on Wed and they still had no clue what was going on. They said they would call back it a little bit with an update. Nothing the rest of the day. The manager calls on Thursday to apologize and would back to us about the vehicle. He calls us back and says they would give us a bottle of touch up paint for the large scratch and we could come in next week for the car. I was not satisfied with that answer and hung up and we found and even better vehicle for the same price and another dealership. The customer service is atrocious at this dealership. Will never go there again and will not recommend them to anyone.

What we liked: confidence that our car had undergone a rigid inspection and detailing, the no hassle, no pressure sales method, the lack of game playing, the full week to decide if we wanted to purchase or not, the total lack of fear about having made a hasty or wrong decision, the FULL WEEK AFTER PURCHASE to own, drive, and be sure we wanted to keep the car, knowing we could return it with a FULL REFUND if we decided we did not want it.The only downside -- our particular salesperson did not inform herself about the features of our car. Avoid this place at any cost...trust me! I have never seen an organization with this level of communication issues...utter pathetic! I had submitted form online for shipping a car from MI to WI and that is the only time they called me to pay them 99$ towards shipping expense. I was informed that the car would be available in one week. And then, I called them multiple times...believe me! exactly after one week, no one had clue on where the car was and no communication whatsoever on the status except for few texts on we will get back. And finally after 10 days of wait I went ahead and bought another car at a local dealer. Today I called them to mention how disappointed I am and asking for refund on the shipping, and I was put on hold for literally 25 mins with no communication at all...I disconnected called them again and no response!Please...please... dont waste your time with CarMax, if you are buying by shipping a car from another location. For some reason, I am thinking now that car which I saw online never existed and I wasted my time for nothing! Hope this review helps and dont make the mistake of buying online with this organization...trust me youll be wasting your time.

Painless car buying experience! Gabriel and the managers at this location are knowledgeable, trustworthy, and honest. I was pleasantly surprised by the efficiency and speed of the process from start to finish. CarMax prices tend toward the high end of retail value according to Manheim market reports. However, transparent information about each vehicle makes it easy to compare options and make the right decision. The standard 90-day warranty and 7-day full refund period remove any worries about purchasing the wrong car. I had to return my Corolla after a week because it wasn’t quite right for me. It only took 30 minutes to complete the return, and there were no hidden loopholes, which was a relief. I will likely return soon to pick another car.

We not only received a generous offer, every staff person we met was friendly, respectful, and knowledgeable.In particular, their business office staff (Adam M), went above and beyond to help us navigate some complex paperwork requirements given the title history of the car. We were making our foray into purchasing a car from a dealership and we had heard great things about CarMax and the options for both new and used vehicles. We worked with Joe at the Odana Rd. location and he was fantastic. He showed us what we were looking for and let us walk the lot by ourselves, which was great to not feel pressure, but he made himself available to us to answer any questions. It was a pretty bad & uncomfortable experience. I mean i’m happy have a car but i felt forced to keep this car, i had a car that i really wanted and was happy with it and i as told it would be delivered but had to litterally call myself to check on it and carmax sold it for cash to someone else as far as delivery. This my first car i’ve ever bought and im not happy with it but i’m happy that i atleast have a car.lavert mathewsthanks

Overall I had a really good experience with CarMax. I was concerned with purchasing a car in Covid times. The place was super clean and everyone was practicing social distancing. I had a wonderful salesman who was attentive and listened to me. If I had a complaint, it would be that from start to finish the car buying process took hours (at least 5 or 6) I will attribute some of the the unnecessary waiting to my salesman. I would definitely go to CarMax again.
