I personally traveled from North Carolina to try this famous Africian Braiding location. Note to self its located near Wawa; Walk around to see the entrance. I personally was tired of dealing with my natural hairSo I desired a change. I must add Elizabeth is pictured below, and her skin complexion is mesmerizing. Just gorgeous!! I laughed alot and had a great time, and ill always be grateful. 1. Emma only takes Cash. 2. Its more affordable if you bring your own hair: 5 bundles is good. 3. Must keep wearing your mask the entire time you are inside the salon. 4. Please dont book if you cant keep your appointment. 5. I don’t recommend anyone to go here because the owner will be real quick to make you pay $40-60 more than she said. First she will give you a good price for your braid afterwards she will tell you what she has done extra services without your permission. This business wants CASH ONLY. She will argue with you if you tell her that she overcharged you. The braids were nice but the service and price didn’t give me a good experience to be happy on my hair.

This was my first time going to this salon and I must say..I was not disappointed!! The owner was very professional and welcoming and ensured that the other stylist knew what I was getting done. I also loved the atmosphere with the music. The quality of work vas very high and I was very pleased. I will definitely be coming back!Side note: Many of the reviews on here seem to be personal issues but if you look at the salon as a whole, it is one of the best in the area I believe.

I called for a re-twist with my natural locks and the woman said I can come in today. But when I told her how I wanted it she said it’s no opening and that she can’t do my hair. She was rude and very unprofessional. Don’t waste your time or money.

I have been coming to Ms. Emma since I was seven years old. If you go through her portfolio, you will see my old photos in there. My mother, my grandma, my aunt and Ms. Emma are the ONLY ones I have ever let touch my hair. I must give credit to the owner of this salon because of her I might be returning. I took my daughter who is four in for box braids. This was probably her fourth time going to a hair salon for braids and unfortunately it was the worst experience weve ever had at a beauty salon. The woman doing her hair was rough. My child hair is natural and I had washed it and had it in sections making it easier to blow dry being we normally dont blow dry her hair. The braider instead of blow drying the hair in the smaller sections tried to blow dry bigger sections at once. My child started to cry and instead of her trying to comfort my daughter she complained that she was taking her time and the child shouldnt be crying. She told me if I wanted to blow dry it I could which I gladly did. I dont believe she knows anything about natural hair. The entire experience was the braider complaining each time my daughter showed any type of discomfort. The salon owner shared she picked that particular braider because she is patient but there are other qualities someone must have when working with children. Some of these qualities includes but not limited to compassion, listening, reassuring etc. She never asked my daughter her name, never made conversation with my daughter to make her comfortable being it was her first time at the salon. I only saw her show any welcoming spirit after the hair braiding was complete. Children pick up on everything and although she might not want to accept the fact she had a part to play in my childs bad experience at the salon it could have gone a little better if she was inviting and said sorry or show concern when my child said her head was hurting instead of complaining that her shoulders was too hurting and slamming the comb on the table while walking away. With all the braider did I paid for the service and gived her a generous tip. We are new in the area and I picked this salon because it appeared professional compared to others so I didnt mind they were on the pricey side. The owner, like I said will be the only reason we return. She was understanding, kind and courteous towards my child and I. Shes the reason Im giving 2 stars. The braids are cute but for the amount we paid could have been smaller in size.

I called and they were able to take me the same day. I got starter dreads, they took care of me and gave me info on how to maintain them. Had me in and out in a little over an hour

Never get crochet twist/ braids anything like that from this place!! I bought over 10 pack of my own hair, she did it and it was still big patches of hair not filled and you could clearly see the cornrow. I did not notice this until I got home and looked in a mirror and saw this. Had to wear a scarf on my head so that you could not see the cornrows. Because the cornrows she did we’re so tight it took away my edges and left me with thin edges. This hairstyle was taken out in a week and I was not satisfied at all. VERY VERY DISAPPOINTED WITH MY SERVICE !!!!!!

So Wooow ..This establiment was one of the worse ones i have ever visited and i know for a fact there were orher people in the shop that felt the same way.So this shop must be family owned as i asked to speak with a manger and ahe said oh so you want to speak with my mom with a smirk they are VERY VERY unprofessional unpleasent and untrained im not sure how they even have a liscene to practice.I wanted to support black establishments in this time of pandemic but these women did not deserve my coins(235).Rude she pulled my hair the entire time because she was too lazy to stand up and braid the hair like women in other shops.They try to get over EVERY chance they can so go in with extra money because you might be charged for something.When i spoke my mind i overheard my name being mentioned several times in another language! I ignored the reviews because i know they can be harsh sometimes but this is the ABSOLUTE truth SAVE your money if i could get mine back i will! Collectively with the socail media base that i have i will make sure that women never have to waste their money getting your hair done should be a relaxing non hostile environment since thats where most of your money is going !

When i arrived i came early as my appointment is at 8am! There are two sides tot he shop looks like a hair cutting location and an additional side! Well anyway they werent on time there was one lady in the shop abd she acted as if she had no idea what was going on when i came in and asked me to wait outside!Additionally after waiting outside a bit in 80 degree weather they finally took me and acted as if they didnt want to do their job at all! There was a problem with everything their hair they had my hair texture these women arent professional so if you have NATURAL Hair dont waste your time! They talked laughed made personal calls while doing my hair....Now i dont mind that because business is business but if it hinders you from moving your hands then you dont need to be on the phone while doing my hair because just as we pay our money and your time is valuable so is ours ! other women kept coming over to her station carrying on conversations with her and again she was not multitasking and kept stopping while braiding my hair making this process wayyyyyy too long it took almost 9 hours ....they laughed loudly in my ear while doing my hair dancing around definitely definitely not professional seemed as if they had an attitude did not care about the QUALITY of their work while doing it or after this African braiding shop is NOT it ladies!

Emma is punctual, professional, honest, fair and very talented! Since my hair has been in her care it has grown tremendously and is VERY HEALTHY (I just keep in the weave because I’m lazy ;)! No social distancing, too many people in a room. Now the quality of the braid is mediocre they used more hair on the braid than in my head. There are to many open spots in my head. Low quality braiding! Double braiding made the time longer, than if they just did what I asked. Now I have braids I can only wear in a ponytail due to the bad braiding job.

Emma is awesome! She has a gift for sew-ins. My hair is always full without lump or bumps. Most importantly it lays super flat so I can wear my hair in a bun (since I am in the military). She is extremely quick and I never have to wait around to be seen. If she says you have an appointment that slot is available just for you. She is very professional and has fair prices that do not change every time you book an appointment. I recommend this place to all my friends because it is as good as it gets. Lastly, before going to Emma I would leave a salon not totally satisfied. Once I got home I would make adjustments to get my hair exactly the way I want it. However, with Emma I do not have that problem it is pure perfection every time.

Ive been going to Miss Emma and her crew since I was 7 (Im now 17). Never have I once had a bad experience. The price is always reasonable and Im ALWAYS happy with my result. The best part for me is Miss Emma and her crew really care about you and your hair and take the time to make sure youre satisfied before you leave. Its always a pleasure going to her salon.

I was very pleased with the end results of my hair. It was my first time getting the crochet style and it turned out well. I was glad that it did not consume my entire day to complete. Next time, I will change the cornrow pattern so that I can put it in a ponytail. The owner was very friendly and worked to make sure I was satisfied with my hair.

I just love Emma and her staff. We drive over an hour to get my daughters hair braided and every time we go there my daughter is well pleased (corn rows, triangle box braids, or braids) and she always gets compliments on how nice her hair looks. Just this week my daughter was having knee surgery and decided the day before she wanted her hair braided and Emma was able to accommodate us in such a short amount of time. We will continue to use Emma and her staff for all our braiding styles.

I went to Diana yesterday morning sat. 7/16/2016 to get my braids done. It took about 6 hrs which was way longer then I expected but it was worth it, she did an amazing job. I love the technique of the braiding pattern. She knew exactly what she was doing. She was also very pleasant. I will be going back to her and DEFINITELY recommend going to her or anyone at African hair braiding!

Theyre great at making fake hair look amazing. Not so great at maintaining, protecting, or styling natural hair at all. And God forbid you actually have edges... it feels like they want to twist/braid the very essence of your soul through your roots, then act as if youre over exaggerating when you tell them its too tight.If you want a weave, great. Otherwise, theyll ruin your hair, its texture, and make you eggless. Not for me at all. Ill go ahead and drive the extra 2 hrs to go back to my normal hair stylist.

They are very professional, give great advice, will make sure that I leave with the style I want, and just an overall friendly atmosphere. I always get crochet braids, and they do an AWESOME job!!! This shop do great braids, but they charged you for bringing your own hair. Will not be back and the stylist are slow. Was there at 8:00 am until 2:30.

This shop does not seem to know how to do natural hair properly. I would give it less than a half star if I could. This shop is only worried about making your hair extensions look good while damaging your healthy hair. So if you like your hair with no heat damage, no dead ends, no breakages, and edges you may want to reconsider going to this shop.

My mother comes here to get her hair braided. Ms. Emma does an absolutely phenomenal job everytime!My mother is balding and has protection style braids put in to help her wigs stay on better and Ms. Emma always works with her to give her exactly what she wants. She is incredibly flexible when it comes to scheduling. On multiple occasions when due to traffic my mother has been 30+ minutes late she still always finds a way to fit her in!Now that shes moved my mother even drives 2+ hours to get her braided because her work is such high quality! Must say Im from Philly was out in VA for the weekend with my husband wanted my hair braided...Out of all the braiding shops Ive been to in Philly this was the best my stylist didnt braid tight braids the size I wanted definitely would come back😉

First of all, I was in this shop waaaaaay to long! Second the style I wanted didnt look like my picture which was pretty easy. All I wanted was a bob style box braids and got ear short box braids. To top it off, the ladies doing my burnt me multiple times wheelie the other one jabbed me in the head with scissors because she was going entirely too fast. Ive had box braids done before and this is THE worst Ive ever had. Theyve completely ruined box braids for me & Ill never get them again nor will I ever come back to this shop. They took break after break, talked on the phone, etc. Im disappointed with the service and at the fact that they wont give me my money back.

I came in here after numerous times of paying to get my hair cornrow. I asked them to simply leave some hair out for my leave out invisible wig. She refused to cornrow my hair trying to charge me for a weave. Very unprofessional

Crochet braids took 2 hours and the quality is proof. It is sloppy and she sewed my cornrows into one giant noticeable lump on the back of my head. Never going again.

Charged us much more for hair braiding. We tried to discuss this but with no resolution. They were very rude to our daughter that we brought there. We will never come back.

They did an excellent job. The staff was polite, on time and the atmosphere was better than Ive experienced at other braid shops. I especially enjoyed the parking, the use of 2 TVs playing Lifetime movies and the Wawa across the parking lot for the snacks. =) Definitly going again!

They always do a great job on my hair

I have been to this location a few times over the years. I will say the owner in terms of doing hair is good. The ladies who braid on the other side are also good. My complaint is customer service. I scheduled an appointment for my little cousin via phone for 230. I was asked if there was an open time earlier would i want it. I said of course just call. The problem was when my cousin went at 230 she was told i had cancelled the appointment. I had of pass the call and talking to the owner she stated she called ...i or someone answered and cancelled the appt. I told her there was no one in the house and i was asleep so there was no way i called nor picked up and cancelled appointment. I dont know if she just passed the phone back or just hung up..but there was no resolution even attempted. When i reviewed my call log i had one missed call around 1032am...i attempted to call back and no answer. With the facts i can only conclude she or someone at the shop called to move the appt earlier there was no pickup and they opted to send the braider home (my mom stated she had let the braider go home)...i assume the work was slow today. This would had been an easy fix of just owning a mistake because it does happen in customer service fields. What was unacceptable was to not own up to the mistake and not try to resolve the mistake. Very disappointed. This shouldnt overshadow the work they produce but it does leave a bad taste. Im big on customer service and integrity. .. (prior military cant help it)....and if anyone is from the shop i am more then happen to show my phone log of incoming and outcoming. Facts or facts. Good day.

Got ti salon instantly she got to work(forgot her name). Very pleased with my senegalese twists they are perfect andbraiding at the beginning which is what stays the best in my opinion. Its next to a wawa which is a plus for snacks!! No one spoke to me.much which is what i like there to get my hair done not make friends. I watched 1 nigerian movie it was funny i was asked did i want to watch anything but i was into my phone w headphones on. When i was getting my hair done a girl was there getting crochet braids and it looked so nice im gettubg thrm next! The only reason i didnt give this salon 5 stars is because i want to see if i have lots of loose braids in the days to come. The braiding is tight but thats normal my tip is around your edges and back when the braider braids about an inch or so down pinch the braid at the beginning so its not pulling as much at the base. I cant upload pics right noe for whatever reason but my hair looks really nice! Happy w this salon i will be back.
