This is about Professor Andrew. I have been looking around for a Jiu Jitsu coach for several years in my advanced age and I found him teaching and training in the bay area. I am still a white belt but I never found someone with as much integrity and teaching skills as Drew. He has many true leadership qualities that the children who train under him will absorb and learn from as they mature into adulthood. I have two daughters and I would not hesitate to have them under Drews tutelage. The people of Folsom will soon find out how lucky they are to have Drew as their teacher and mentor in the community.

Nexus is a well organized gym. Andrew is very detail oriented when teaching techniques and includes clear and concise lessons on concepts and how to apply them to self defense scenarios or competition. He’s committed to the growth of his students and is one of the best coaches I’ve had. I’m happy to be apart of the Nexus family and excited to watch this gym grow. :)

I have had the pleasure of attending Andrews classes, and they are a high caliber of quality. Andrew is cerebral is in approach to teaching Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and is able to easily articulate his curriculum to his students. He fosters a joyful training environment and knows how to make you get a good workout. If you want good technique, a family oriented training environment, and an overall great place to train then Nexus Jiu-Jitsu would be your optimal choice.

As a white belt who has trained at many gyms because I move often, Andrew has been one of my favorite coaches. His way of breaking down techniques into easily understandable steps and giving reasons for each movement was very helpful for me. He is very approachable and easy to talk to, which allowed me to ask questions and receive thorough explanations. I highly recommend Andrew and his gym!

I have watched Andrews Jiu Jitsu journey from white belts rolling in the garage to traveling the globe learning from, rolling with, and competing with the best the world has to offer. There is very few people who put more time and energy in to studying and practicing the craft of Jiu Jitsu. I have learned so much from Andrew as a friend and a teammate, and now as an instructor that truly leveled my game up. You know if he is teaching you something that it works against the best!Stopped by Nexus Jitsu and not only learned some awesome techniques with some super helpful details, but got some great rolls in with a wide variety of different belt colors.Very clean gym, with nice mats, and plenty of room to roll, anybody who gets to learn from Andrew on a daily is truly fortunate. I will be dropping in as often as possible!

I started training with Andrew through the recommendation of a friend, and now have a newfound love and respect for BJJ! As a woman who also does other martial arts, Ive found BJJ to be one of the most effective for realistic self defense. No BS fake-knife slaps here! Learn how to most effectively break a body with your own body. Andrew is extremely articulate with his teaching style, and differs from other instructors in that he focuses on concepts rather than solely techniques. Theres thousands of techniques in BJJ that are a feat to remember, but Andrew teaches concepts which makes learning the techniques flow much more easily! And its still not easy, no one can buy their black belt, it can take decades to earn, which makes it even more fun and protects the integrity of the art. But whether or not you want to commit to the art or train for an amazing workout+usable self defense techniques then its totally worth trying out. And Andrew is super chill, kind, and funny! You couldnt ask for a better coach.

I’ve trained with Andrew many times at open mats and he has always been a great training partner and always gave me some good details on what I could work on (because he always submitted me) and explained then very well. If I was in the area I would definitely train with him.

Nexus jiu jitsu is a very well run gym. Andrew Kerfoot, the owner and instructor, is very inviting. He absolutely loves to teach the arts that he has dedicated his life to which is very evident in the passion he shows during his classes. He very lucidly and easily conveys the concepts behind the techniques of his martial arts. The kids just love him and can’t wait to go to class with him. He offers a wide variety of different classes with special emphasis on different age groups. If you are interested in learning a new life skill, developing self defense concepts or making new friends, stop by and say hello!

My family lives in Placerville and we train at EDHBJJ. Andrew has been coaching and training with us for some time at EDH preparing to open his gym. He is a true class act and extraordinary instructor. I’m stoked for his academy open and do drop ins. If you’re in the Folsom area looking to train this is the spot. OSS!

I moved here from Jordan about 3 years ago looking for some top notch jiu jitsu. I’ve been doing jiu jitsu for 11 years now and I have never seen anyone as intelligent in this sport. If you want to be the best you gotta learn from the best and I can tell you Andrew is one of the best out there.

Drew is easily one of the top 3 coaches I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with .... positive, patient, and nothing but in love with Jiu-jitsu and the evolvement of Jiu-Jitsu...I wouldn’t roll anywhere else in the area after having rolled with coach Drew, and comparing how much I’ve learned while doing so 🥋 🙏🏼

I have trained in gyms and under professors from all around the world, yet, never have I met anyone dedicated to the art of teaching martial arts as much as Coach Andrew. He has such an amazing way of communicating and explaining techniques focusing on the smallest intricacies and details that will make a difference in anyone’s game from kids to adults. If he’s not teaching jiu jitsu, he’s training, if he’s not training jiu jitsu, he’s studying jiu jitsu, its always something! I remember once asking him how he never gets burnt out from teaching and he responded, “there is nothing more satisfying for me than passing down knowledge and seeing people apply that knowledge.” Coach Andrew is the equivalent of an encyclopedia when it comes down to martial arts. He is a great role model for kids and adults alike. His discipline, consistency, work ethic, and passion are contagious! I have also had the pleasure to work along side with him teaching kids classes and the kids all, literally all, respect and love him! This gym is a gem and Coach Andrew is not just an amazing coach and athlete but he is also an amazing person to be around!

Ive been on the mats with Andrew Kerfoot for about 5 years now. Not only is he a very technical bjj practitioner but he is also a great instructor. He is able to break down complicated, multi-step techniques in a way that anyone can digest and learn. Ive learned many BJJ concepts and principles from Andrew that I still use on the mats today.
