I was about a four to five years student at Kangs ATA before Covid and they had great service while I was there. With help from the excellent instructors, Master Kang and Chief Master Kang, I was able to become a black belt, something I didnt think I could do. Master Kang is an awesome instructor. Not only does he make sure that all of his students are engaged in his classes, he takes time to speak with them and get to know them. If they are not behaving at home, he teaches them the importance of respect and responsibility. Master Kang and his teaching assistants are kind, patient, hard-working, disciplined and dedicated. Through their words and their actions, they consistently model the same expectations that they set for their students. Coming from a Chinese American background, I really wanted my children to learn a form of Chinese martial arts. Our son has been attending Kangs ATA since he was 5 or 6 years old and earned his black belt. The key word being earned and not just given. The experiences he has gained exceed that of just learning martial arts. The core curriculum here includes building self confidence, respect for everyone, getting good grades in school, establishing goals and living a better life. My daughter has been with this center since kindergarten, now she is going to the 6th grade in fall and has already earned her black belt. This has become to her favorite sport. This center is conveniently located in my neighborhood, all staff there is very professional and polite, they are thriving to serve the best they can! It was a challenge when the COVID started in March this year but the owner quickly adopted a online training and provided unlimited access to the online class so my daughter can exercise everyday yet stay-at-home. I also like the hybrid schedule they are providing now while most education establishments stay closed. The online reservation tool to book the in-person class is very convenient and the owner sends reminder on a regular basis to keep parents posted for opening class slots. Certainly this center is practicing strict social distancing measures to keep kids safe and healthy while taking in-person classes. I am just hoping the statewide/nationwide tournament will come back soon!

Our son has attended Kangs ATA Self-Defense for about 2 years. Master Kang is a wonderful teacher who instills values of respect and discipline while engaging the kids in a lot of fun. During the pandemic, their transition to an online platform has been seamless. There has been effective communication and flexibility, as well as personal attention. The quality of the online videos and online live lessons has been exceptional and Master Kang remains dedicated to providing his students the proper training.

During this unprecedented pandemic, their practices and implementation of the safety and sanitation protocol are top-notch, which I am very impressed with. Since reopening at the end of June, I have observed that Kang’s studio complies with the Governor’s executive orders and guidelines to ensure the safety of all their students and staff. Optional attending in-person class in this studio is the only occasion I let my son outside the home without much concern about the risk of being exposed to COVID-19. I firmly believe that there is no other place that can compare to this studio’s safety protocol. For example, a few safety protocols they require include: safety screening check, enforcement of mask-wearing (mask provided), application of disinfection spray and wipes between classes, requiring the use of hand sanitizer at entry, and assigned training area by pods (8 feet, not 6 feet). I am so grateful for Kang’s Self Defense studio for providing a safe environment for students to stay active and motivated during this stressful time and assure that this is a welcoming place for people of all ages to learn the art of Taekwondo.

Weve been taking self-defense class at Kangs ATA for about 3 years, and my child loves it! She loves all the other kids in class. Master Kang is very professional, always maintain good communication and positive attitude! He has a lot of experience working with kids, and understands how to engage them with different activities to keep them interested and learning. My child always has a good time learning new techniques and all the assistants on the floor are very supportive in guiding and helping the younger kids with their forms. Having been in the beginner program for about four months now, I can see why they receive such high ratings. Master Kang and his family treats everyone with the same respect that they expect out of their students.In addition to learning the art of Taekwondo, students are taught positive skills they can apply at school and in everyday life. Since joining, my son has shown tremendous improvement in his self-confidence, patience, self-control, and perseverance.With COVID-19 around, ATA continues to provide online (Zoom) and optional in-person classes. With all the sudden changes that came with this pandemic, my son is happy to be able to continue to practice Taekwondo, get some exercise, and see his classmates.They have great communication, and reply immediately to emails. The Kang dojo is a truly wonderful environment for kids to develop their passions for Taekwondo. Master Kang is absolutely wonderful — he’s very personable, has a great sense of humor, and builds everything he does on a solid foundation of mutual respect. Children love him and have a great time during lessons but have a deep respect for him and the other instructors and stay focused on their exercises. I especially appreciate how accommodating the Kang dojo has been during the pandemic — they immediately developed and implemented online practice sessions so my daughter could continue to learn while stuck at home. I also am very grateful for the fact that they have continued to offer these online sessions even after the dojo partially reopened so we could continue to limit our family from unnecessary exposures. Like the face-to-face sessions, Master Kang is GREAT on zoom. Such a great instructor — we’re very happy we found Kangs ATA Self-Defense!!!

Chief Master Kang and Master Jay Kang have been a part of my sons development overall development. The father-and-son tandem teach these Taekwondo lessons to not only train the physical development of his body, but also install in my son a sense of self-confidence and mental toughness. He has not only overcome his shyness, but has become more assertive at home and in school. Chief Master Kang and Master Kang see to it that the children not only practice the Taekwondo ethos but more importantly, both regularly emphasize that the training goes hand- in -hand with academics and family life. In this hard times, Master Kang works hard to support and engage the students, to include conducting virtual classes to accommodate the rest. He is also cognizant of the risk, that is why the school has a robust system of limiting the number of students per class; requiring them to wear a mask at all times; checking their body temperature before coming in; having their own space on the mat; and, also having a generous supply of alcohol gel for the students use. There is always that risk, and as we struggle to find our normalcy, I am glad that Kangs ATA Self Defense is able to provide that sense of normalcy.
