Don’t hang anything on your walls unless you’re willing to have large amounts of money deducted from your security deposit. We left some paint spots where pictures used to be (no holes and nothing that couldn’t have been covered with some new paint). We didn’t think it would be much of an issue since we’d rented the unit for five years and the low-grade paint had begun to fade a while ago. $250 was deducted from our deposit for “excessive wall damage” and it feels a lot like they recouped money from us to pay for something that needed to be done anyway. Took great care of the place and this left a really bad taste in our mouths.

The only positive part of Buckeye is that they do respond pretty quick to maintenance requests. Sometimes they warn you when to expect them but most times they just show up and walk in. They had to come fix our sink three times because they are just trying to blow through as many maintenance requests as possible. Overall, awful company and would not recommend but around campus you don’t get much of a choice. Also, be wary of the 5 star reviews. Some come from previous employees such as Mitchell and Samuel.

I am a current tenant who just extended his lease for next year. I have decided to write this review because I have been impressed with Buckeye Real Estate overall. They offer fair rates for the apartments that they rent out, their staff members are diligent in the work that they do, and their repair services are always timely and efficient. In addition, I had an incident where I was wrongfully towed and Buckeye Real Estate called the tow company and issued me a refund. Props to you Buckeye Real Estate. Im glad I resigned for next year.

So me and my roommate were planning on moving in this fall with this company. We were gonna sign the lease after the current tenets would sign their renewal waiver but they the tenets pulled out on us because of a bribe from someone else. So naturally we went to the company to work with them on the situation and show them the proof that they were violating their lease by taking bribes. Buckeye Real Estate then told us they would work on it and keep us posted. Then after I had check out the property again later that day, it was showing available to the public and when we went in to sign they had said they signed it to someone else even though they said they would work with us.So long story short you can not trust the management here as they will lie to you to try and keep you interested in rent with them.

They’re horrible! for the price you might as well rent from one of the new apartment complexes on campus. Everything was broken and dirty. Their only purpose is to charge a $2300 security deposit which they keep absurd amounts of for repairs that cost $30 tops, charge students hundreds of dollars to park in their own driveways, and just essentially rip off students by charging $600-800 for what is (quality wise) equal to welfare housing. Actually according to my friend’s mom who lived in welfare housing, it’s worse than that.

They contract with one of the slimiest towing companies in the city (Shamrock), which if you know anything about them you would know why thats an issue. They towed me out of my own parking spot, unlocked my car, ripped the parking pass off of my mirror, and charged me to get my car back. Buckeye Real Estate did nothing to solve the issue or to get my money back, claiming that they tow any car that doesnt have a visible parking tag. Im sure thats the case when Shamrock has free range to open any car and claim that the tag wasnt properly visible.

I highly recommend living with Buckeye Real Estate. The staff is knowledgeable and helpful. After living with another company, Buckeye Real Estate is truly leaps and bounds ahead of the rest. From quick maintenance response time for minor repairs to not experiencing any major issues with our unit. Compared to our old unit, the entire process from viewing the unit to signing our lease was quick and efficient. Their lease is the same unit to unit, so student legal services had already reviewed several of their leases when my roommate checked it with them. When it came to moving in and out, the processes was streamlined and efficient despite the volume of people. Overall, my experience with Buckeye Real Estate was nothing but positive.

Although my daughter has yet to actually live in a rental from Buckeye real estate our experience in looking and signing a lease has been very positive. After driving from over an hour away on numerous occasions to view apartments it was obvious Buckeye was superior to the other companies. One reality company never showed and one was 10 minutes late with a key that didnt work. (we never saw that apartment) Then we scheduled with Buckeye. They were ready when we arrived, were able to answer all our questions, and were kind and courteous. They drove us to the locations and even had two employees accompany us since one was new. (She did a fine job) When we actually showed up to lease an apartment there was also another group of girls wanting the same apartment. It became a very uncomfortable and tense situation with the other party becoming argumentative. The employees remained calm and handled the conflict very well without escalating the situation. Thank goodness they had cameras and were able to access them. The cameras showed that we had arrived first (although, the other group said that we had both arrived at the same time.) Regardless of who ended up with the property the employees and company handled the situation with professionalism and kindness. Im looking forward to my daughter renting from Buckeye and hope the positive experiences will continue.

Awful! Rent for a 5br apartment with was overpriced compared to friends in the same area with much better quality housing. Appliances like the garbage disposal, toilet, and washing machine broke frequently with maintenance either taking forever to fix or not fixing at all. Lack of insulation in the building left us either freezing or paying huge amounts for heating. In the winter, ice formed on the inside of my bedroom window. Shady agreements with local utility companies forced us into expensive deals with no choice. For example, internet service provider put proprietary ethernet jacks in the unit so that we could not set up our own network devices and instead had to pay for an expensive installation. Parking passes were a total scam, cost over $200 for two spaces which were actually one stacked space that traps one car inside. Tyrannical towing practices in cahoots with a private company led to our visitors being towed several times. Worst of all, our property manager decided to begin construction work on the upstairs unit in the middle of the school year, waking us up at 8am to hammering noises daily for months. Buckeye Real Estate refused to apologize for the disruptive noise and lied multiple times that it would be over soon or that we would receive a discount on rent. Unfortunately, I doubt that any of the slumlords around OSUs campus are better, but DO NOT RENT FROM BUCKEYE REAL ESTATE!

HIGHLY RECOMMEND! After reading through other reviews, I was confused and felt like sharing my personal experience leasing through Buckeye Real Estate. When we signed our lease, one of our roommates was unsure if he was was going to stay in Columbus, but needed a place to live if he did. Once he decided he was no longer going to live with us, we struggled to find a replacement. Due to the Buckeye Real Estates policy, our roommate was unable to be removed from the lease without us signing off on the change. This policy was great, and saved us from possibly getting screwed over by a flakey roomate. Once we found a replacement, the process of doing a lease change was quick and easy. For the duration of our lease, we had quick maintenance for any repair we needed, and we never had anything more than minor repairs. At the end of our lease, we did the deposit delegation option for our security deposit, and had no problems receiving our deposit back in a timely manner. Our unit had a lot out back which we purchased the parking passes for a super cheap price compared to our last apartment. With parking only being $120 for the year, I was amazed with the quality of the lot and simplicity of the purchasing process. WARNING: Shamrock towing does all of their parking monitoring and has no vehicle information. My roommate forgot to put his pass up and was towed, but per the parking agreement he realized it was his mistake. The leasing staff was very helpful and knowledgeable despite being college students. Whenever they had questions, they made sure to check with their managers to ensure they provided us with the proper information. All in all, I highly recommend renting from Buckeye Real Estate, you wont regret it.

Ive had a decent experience with the company until the past month. We had one roommate graduate and leave and when we signed the paperwork to remove her from the lease, Buckeye Real Estate accidentally removed me instead. I was unable to log into my tenant portal, which is where youre supposed to pay rent. I also had an issue of my window/ceiling leaking in my bedroom. I called to report the issue on December 21st. After waiting for 8 days, making 6 phone calls to the maintenance office, 2 calls to the leasing office, and 1 call to the emergency maintenance number, there was no repair work done. This happened during a week where it rained continuously and there was water dripping into my bedroom. It took me informing the leasing office, via email, that I was calling the City of Columbus Code Enforcement office to FINALLY have a tarp placed over my window. The window still has not had any further work done and it has been 14 days.If youre looking for a reality company that cares about water entering your apartment... this company is not the one to choose. If youre looking for a reality company that can keep basic paperwork straight... this company is not the one to choose.

This is the most incompetent real estate office I have ever rented from.1. Consistently used informal letters/email with U Haha XD, etc.2. They lost my rent check automatically sent through the bank, refused to look for it, and sent an eviction notice BEFORE rent was even due. They found the check a week later.3. They unlawfully entered the premises without proper notice (48 hours?) during a long-term power outage. I was not even staying in the apartment at the time, but I returned to find them inside the apartment showing it to a possible renter less than 24 hours after I had last been to the apartment to pick up some supplies. She blamed me for the street-wide power outage and told me to pay my bills (which were regularly paid, this outage was all over the news)4. They tried to increase my rent on a 2 year fixed contract and were confused as to why I wouldnt come in to sign another contract after only 1 year.5. They continuously called me about some previous renter of a different gender to which I had no affiliation, yet refused to call for information personally effecting me (house showings, gas readings). They stuck notes directly on the door instead. One thing I did have go decently was when the gas went out in the middle of winter, I called the emergency line and they came in 24-48 hours later. However, I was freezing and bought a space heater, so perhaps thats why I was less worried about the delay.

Alright kiddos, buckle up. This is my second year leasing with Buckeye Real Estate, first at 170 W Maynard and now at the newly renovated 161 W Maynard across the street. In that time it has become clear how little this company cares about the services it provides. Aside from a series of issues with bedbugs at the old apartment (which, to their credit, the property manager James handled very well) there have been a series of issues with our new place that have yet to be appropriately addressed. Feel free to check out the photos of the laundry room, too.First, property upkeep. 161 W Maynard clearly lacks any sort of upkeeping staff, as made evident by the piles of mail in the lobby, the dirt and ceiling dust that contractors have left, the lack of trash receptacles in the laundry room and the absurd amount of lint piles, dirt, and trash that have accumulated in there. Just today I vacuumed the public hallway/laundry room for what I assume to be the very first time since renovations were finished.Second, equipment maintenance. Weve been having trouble with our washer/dryer units here at 161 since shortly after i moved in (only a month ago, mind you) First, the heat venting hose for one of the dryers fell off, pumping hot air and lint into the hallway of the building. I reported this, of course, and the problem was never fixed, so i took some duct tape and fixed it myself. Now, the other hose has fallen off, one of the washers leaks all over the floor, and neither of the dryers produces any heat. My roommate spent 5 dollars (3 cycles) of drying for one set of sheets, and they were still soaked in the morning. I hand scrubbed one of the washers yesterday because it reeked of mildew, and I came away with handfuls of filthy, grubby paper towels. All this, mind you, from a newly renovated building.Third, health concerns. Shortly after moving in, I came down with some pretty intense stomach evacuation issues, if you catch my drift. Obviously this could have been a lot of things, so I didnt think much of it for a week or so. When I found out my roommate was experiencing the same things, she left the apartment for 3 days, stopped drinking the water, and her symptoms abated. Upon returning, they started up again. On my part, I saw a gastroenterologist who was unable to provide any clarity to the situation without scheduling minor surgical procedures. We both stopped drinking the water about a week and a half ago, and in the past 5 or 6 days we havent had any of those symptoms again. Buckeye Real Estate still hasnt responded to this concern. The only water test I was able to obtain was through Home Depot, and I have yet to hear the results from them***UPDATE***Buckeye Real Estate did send someone out to repair the washer/dryers, and they replaced the aerators on the faucets in our apartment to address the water issue. While aerators dont really have any microparticle filtration capabilities, I appreciated the gesture. I will update again when the water test comes back. Finally, general safety. Not only does our one elevator have no inspection tags or state certification of any kind, but for over a week the stairways were roped off with wet paint tape. The tape only came down when the residents got sick of it and took matters into their own hands. Further, the electricity seems to be functioning poorly in public spaces. There was one full day in which none of the lights in the lobby worked, and just yesterday, none of the lights on my floor worked, nor did any of the laundry machines.Overall, not a great experience. Working with the property manager has been the only highlight, given how quickly he helped handle the bedbug situations and worked closely with me throughout the process. He is an asset to this otherwise underwhelming reality company.

When we did have somebody parked illegally in our spot (blocking us in), we couldnt get in touch with Buckeye Real Estate and it took the towing company hours to get to the car.To BRE: Please reconsider your towing practices - they do more harm than good. Our roommates would much prefer to have no random towing, and be able to quickly get other cars towed just by calling. To potential renters: Carefully review your parking terms - you likely wont be able to have guests over or drive a different car, and will have a hell of a time getting somebody else towed from your lot.

Trying to get ahold of maintenance or having someone in the office call you back is impossible but then if its something they need they call and email you multiple times in an hour. Additionally when giving tours of our apartment there have been multiple times when they have called and said they need to show the place in an hour with no notice. When they schedule a showing they dont tell you the time, just sometime between 9am-5pm. Additionally twice now they have left our door unlocked after showing it. Honestly just rent from someone else. It will cost you more in the long run with them.

I lived with them for one year. I will say this - when you put in a maintenance request, you can expect the worker to be there that day or the next day at the latest. It wasnt even a promise they made in the lease (as far as I recall) but the guy always came out super fast which was convenient. What I HATED and this was more of a personal issue soni think they still deserve 4/5 is that they force tours on you and you cannot be home. Their emails were going to spam by accident and people would call me up angry that i didnt lock my esa (dog) up. the assistant manager whatever her name was called me during an outdoor lab, ignored that I told her I was in class, yelled at (not just an angry voice, she actually yelled) that I was legally required to enable them to do tours. I figured out that their emails were going to spam and fixed that so I did start seeing the emails with 24 hr notice. Another thing about the tours is that the kids who give the tours wont let you stay in your house while they give the tour (?)...in retrospect I dont think their touring policy was legal and I would never live with Buckeye again bc of the tours. If having strangers come in a couple times a month to your house that you will be required to leave does not bother you, I say go for it bc that was the only issue I ever had. It was a major issue, but really the only issue ever.

After renting for a year, Buckeye Real Estate has declined to renew our lease. While it is within their rights, they will not provide any explanation for this decision. We are good tenants who have always paid our rent on time. We get along with all our neighbors and have never been issued any complaints. The only reason we can think of for this decision is that we have had multiple maintenance requests within our first year here. Many were repeat requests for issues that werent corrected the first time. And even in those instances, weve been polite and understanding. It seems very unprofessional and we are incredibly disappointed.

Had a friend get towed out of MY parking spot while he was inside grabbing the pass that I paid a ridiculous amount for. Patiently tried to explain the situation to Buckeye Real Estate and Shamrock Towing with no help. They refuse to help tenants and take all they can get from you. Dont rent here if you want to rent under fair policies. Not worth the money. Not worth the stress.

Horrible services. They have no respect for their renters and do little to nothing to help them out in situations. Will definitely not be renting from them in the next years. Also do NOT buy parking passes from them because your car will get towed anyway.

I’ve rented from Buckeye for a year and a half now with no problems. Would have given a good 5 star review once my lease is up, but funny how things can change in a weekend.Thursday night i was getting ready for work and took a quick shower. Had to cut it a little short because my hot water ran out. Really didn’t think much of it. Went to work on Friday and got home that evening, went to wash dishes but didn’t have any hot water. Submitted a maintenance request through the portal, and went on with life.Got home from work Saturday, no hot water so i called the emergency maintenance line to say that it was sill out. I mean with all the usefulness of hot water in December, I’d consider it a basic livelihood that when it’s out, it should be fixed somewhat promptly. They said they’d send someone out in the morning.Sunday morning comes and no one shows up, i call the number again this time someone else calls me, says he’ll be out in an hour, but he can’t fix it because he didn’t know how. I asked if he’d be following up with anyone. He said thatd someone would be out.Monday, i get home from work and there’s a notice on my door. Not a whole lot of detail but scribbled “Fire up water heater” i think great! Someone’s been out, i’ll have hot water, but as i turn my faucet on, the water runs cold for a few minutes never getting past 60 degrees.I call the line once again. They say they can’t help. I say well what can i do. Apparently i can wait another day according to them. Not offers to fix the problem, no help for any recovery. So here we sit. Hour 100 with no hot water. Obviously posting maintenance requests doesn’t get anything done, so maybe this will. 100 hours of no shower while working in a kitchen is a good feeling.Tl;drDon’t rent from Buckeye. Believe every one star rating. You won’t shower for days unless you like 60 degree water in December.

Rodents and poor maintenence staff looking to take advantage. If I could give less than 1 star I would. Lived in apartment on 18th Ave and it was rodent infested due to the deck rotting away out back and buckeye allowing the rodents to move into our complex and take it over. Buckeye/apex pest treatment did nothing effective to help, they essentially could care less as long as their rent was being paid. Caught over two dozen rats in a single week and the best advice they could give us was “keep your place clean” and “the rats seem to be breeding “somewhere”” — and things you could google search. None of it helped and at the end of the year we were absolutely robbed of our security deposit and then some. Horrible, disgusting leasing experience.

I currently rent from Buckeye and am having issues. I lost my parking pass and got towed (parked in my normal spot behind my house) which cost me $110 even though they have my license plate number on file. I signed a sheet that says if I lose my pass I understand Buckeye will not reissue me another one. However, I dont understand this. If they are worried about selling too many passes they should check the passes on the cars and make sure they match the license plate periodically. When I called to ask about getting another parking pass they were rude and said we should share one. Why do I even need to buy a parking pass to live somewhere that I already pay rent? Didnt have this problem with any other real estate companies. Dont rent from them.

I rented an apartment through Buckeye Real Estate for my OSU student daughter. The 3 year lease ended last month. There were problems with the premises during the lease period as you would experience in any lease property. However, Buckeye addressed these problems to my daughters satisfaction. Most importantly, issues regarding occupant safety (building access by unauthorized persons) were dealt with promptly... To my satisfaction. My thanks to Buckeyes Bob Mickley for reducing my anxiety. I highly recommend this company to concerned parents.

If youre thinking about renting a property off campus around OSU there is no question you should go with Buckeye Real Estate. Their staff is the most organized, genuine, caring group that i came across in my years at OSU. After renting from two different reality companies my sophomore and junior year at OSU i was shocked at the lack of care, effort, and urgency that some of these other companies have. That is not the case with Buckeye Real Estate. If you have a problem with anything at all BRE will be there to take care of it within 24 hours usually (or less if you use their emergency maintenance line). You simply cannot get the type of services they offer from other realtors in the off campus area. They will even take you to view apartments/houses youre interested in which is a huge bonus vs just looking at pictures online. BRE staff was so great at what they did that i went in applied for a job there when i was not even renting from them. After working there for about 2 years my opinion about BRE has not changed at all... its obvious they are the best in the business.

I stayed with Buckeye for two years and moved between houses in the same building. For the most part, they were prompt with maintenance calls and fixed problems we had written in about. However, I did not have a good experience leaving them and taking up an apartment elsewhere as they had charged me money out of my security deposit for a problem in the sink I am positive I wasnt responsible for. I filed a claim and never got any mail from them about the same and when I called them a month or so later, they said they sent it out (I hadnt received it) but that they wont refund it as any problem that comes up during my stay is my responsibility. I guess this happens in leasing companies and thats something I can let go but my main problem was the person I was directed to talk to about this claim being super rude on the phone as I tried to check in and figure this out. At that point, it wasnt the money that bothered me as much as it was the voice on the other end offering their condescending and rude attitude; I wonder if that is especially since I no longer house with them. That was some absolutely terrible customer service.

All of my interactions with the leasing office have been really uncomfortable. Just a bunch of students who have no idea how to act professional, working under someone who thinks way too highly of themselves. For what its worth, all of the maintenance staff have been nice, but communication with them as a service is awful. You just have to hope your maintenance request actually went through and they plan on taking care of your problem eventually.

This is easily the worst realtor/landlord in the city of Columbus. They will threaten to evict you for being even a single penny late on rent, they over charge for every service and repair, and their properties are extremely over priced. Anything you do with them has some sort of 40 dollar fee. They will do whatever it takes to milk every single dollar out of you. Go with any other realtor, they are also bad, but none are on the same level of incompetence. This business should be shut down by the city of Columbus.

Hi buckeye real estate, can you send a maintenance person over to fix (insert simple maintenance task)Sure, we can send someone over, but since its not explicitly stated in your lease that it is our responsibility to cover that, we will have to charge you for materials and our maintenance guys timeYou will undoubtedly have this conversation with buckeye real estate at some point if you chose to lease with them.As a perfect example, when we moved into our apartment last year, we asked that they come change the password on the digital lock (we were required to use a digital lock, and were not given the option for physical keys) and they said that they would, but that they would have to charge us for the maintenance dudes time. Now, this would have been annoying, but okay until they said it would cost around 40 dollars to reprogram the lock (a task that would have taken no more than half an hour). There were no materials costs in this instance, so some quick back of the napkin math suggests that they pay their contractors 160,000 a year.I would hazard a guess that Buckeye Real Estate profits a penny or two on these situations.Buckeye Real Estate, I understand that the temptation is there to dick over your tenants seeing as you work on a college campus, and this seems to be the trend, however, its called CUSTOMER SERVICE, and some may argue its important to the long term health of a business. Stop splitting hairs over the tiny details of a lease and trying to squeeze profits out of changing a lightbulb, and focus on being a service based company that goes above and beyond. On a side note, if an education at Ohio State isnt working out for anyone, they should check out a maintenance career with Buckeye Real Estate considering it pays better than any undergraduate degree youll be getting.

The unit itself was very pleasant to live in, and my roommate and I had very good memories for the past 2 years. However, any time we would require any action to be taken by Buckeye Real Estate, the communication would be very spotty and unorganized. Most of our experiences were very frustrating when it came to service requests, action being done for our neighbors excessive noise or other actions, information being processed, etc. The property grounds themselves were typically very poorly managed, with trash everywhere (which is a normal part of a college area, however, I know) and parking spaces that were very inconvenient and tight, especially for the high price they charge. They essentially own most of the properties around campus, so it is almost inevitable for them to be your real estate provider, but if you are looking for a source of smooth, pleasant, and enjoyable experience, I would avoid renting with Buckeye Real Estate.

Wish I could give a negative rating to this real estate company. Their parking pass policies dont make sense, and they are VERY rude while working with students that pay for their overpriced housing. All their properties are disgusting and not well kept; there have been multiple rat sightings on various properties. You would be better off living in your parents basement than in one of their houses.

Okay company except for the fact that they will literally find any excuse to get more money from you. Gave us a three day warning to remove some lights from our house and after one day they took them down and charged us and we had to fight with them to remove the charge. Also did unnecessary renovations on our property and took the money out of our security deposit and said if we want it back wed have to take them to court for it.
