This review is in regards to donation pick up and email contact with local lieutenant. I emailed the local lieutenant two months ago, after just moving to the area, about where I could possibly donate directly to the local homeless. I do understand how the current situation has changed how the local offices operate, as my mother recently retired from one. I have yet to receive a simple one line email in return. As far as the pick up, I went online and amended the ticket a full day before. I assumed, because I was able to do so, it was not a big deal and the tickets were printed the morning of. The older gentleman came in and almost immediately told me I couldnt do that and the website did not allow me to do so. He wanted to stand there and argue with me about it and then rudely stated they werent going to take some of it. Im fine with throwing away what they would not take. The younger gentleman was very kind and friendly, BTW. I did tell the older gentleman, as he left, that i was sorry if I was rude at all and that i was simply trying to tell him what the site allowed me to do and that i realized it was neither of our faults. Needless to say, I doubt Ill be dealing with the Salvation Army directly ever again. If I have things that are allowed to be put in the blue donation boxes, I will use them. I will be checking out the local St. Vincent DePaul. Otherwise, I will just start throwing things in the dumpster, since i know people in need around here dive through it on a regular basis.

Served 2 years in the United States Air Force before having a seizure that shortened my original enlistment term. Spent 7 years to complete my Bachelors in Finance. Moved to Cincinnati in 2011 to work for this Salvation Army as a Centralized Bookkeeper. It wasnt easy, but I made it past my 90 day initial evaluation and landed the job.Then...a female Bookkeepers who had been working with the Salvation Army for 10+ years had a bad motorcycle accident where she had experienced head trauma. This co-worker would talk around the office about her concern for being able to continue school while recovering from her injury. My heart went out to her. On a Friday, I decided to pull her aside and tell her of a similar experience I had experienced in school. I told her I had surgery one summer while I was going to school to lower likelihood of my seizures. Then elaborated on some of the medical arrangements that were provided the following quarter that enabled me to continue school while I recovered.Well...instead of taking my story to heart this co-worker proceeded to tell everyone! I had no idea what was going on the following Monday when I was called into a large office with HR, Direct Manager, and 3 others sitting around a table. They gave me the option to take a settlement of 30 days of pay to quit or they were going to have to let me go with no settlement.Moral of the Story...what they did was illegal and hurtful. Dont believe all this hype you hear in the Church about sharing your story. Be prepared to learn to forgive in your life. Dont be surprised when your expectation of The Salvation Army dont quit stack anywhere near reality (They are a Business before they are a Church).

They helped me and my son in time of need and I was very grateful for that, we had to utilize their homeless shelter do to unfortunate circumstances. They help me move out and become self sufficient. The only problem I had was the workers. While at the shelter they have a way of making you feel like a kid with all the rules which I understood but it became over barring. The workers in the office made you feel shameful for being there in that situation by wanting to know your business only to talk about you instead of really trying to understand our barriers and being able to assist. There was a guy in charge that has been fired after working there 20 something years for making degrading remarks about the women’s personal situations and how they ended up at the shelter, like I said they made you feel shameful and talked down on you for needing help. I had a case worker name Edward Manier who was awful, inconsiderate, uncompassionate and lazy. I would be surprised if he still worked there, he had just started when I was there and I honestly don’t see how he even got a job there being he was not fit for the job at all. He had no sense of urgency and did things at his own pace, he could careless about the people he had to help and when you work at a place like this it helps to be compassionate, understanding, and sincere. You never know when you will need help due to different situations in your life so treat people how you want to be treated in time of need. How can you work at the Salvation Army and talk down on those needing salvation? I remember workers looking at us with such disgust in their eyes and wouldn’t even greet you or speak back, made you feel like trash and like you didn’t matter. If you really need help here is a great place to start, my only complaint was how they treated you. Imagine being at your lowest point in life and needing help only for the place you go to for help belittles you for needing them, not a good feeling at all. Be good to people, you never know when you’ll need them.

Wouldnt take 3/4 of the stuff I had for them. Was perfectly fine. We used it for years; we just wanted updated items. Rather than throw it into the trash, we decided to donate. Waited 3 weeks for pickup, only to have the drivers refuse most of it. Terrible.

Scheduled a pick up of furniture that we decided we didnt want to take in our cross country move. They called me the morning of pick up and said they dont want to stop by because they really dont need the furniture (!) Absolutely terrible company. My drafting table is brand new and when I told him that he said he didnt know what it was but was sorry they were not coming. I called customer service spent over 1 hr total trying to reach someone. One call I was on hold for over 20 mins the lady picks up and hangs up. Terrible company altogether.

Do not count on this charity for donating items. I signed up for a pick up on line weeks in advance. Also called and spoke with a representative on the phone confirming my items for pick up. Drivers were supposed to arrive between 8am and 4pm. Someone finally showed up at 6pm. When they did finally arrive the drivers refused to take two of the items that were the heaviest items. Even though the items had been pre-approved by their call center. They just did not want to do any heavy lifting. Take your things to Goodwill.
