CAA doesnt really care about black kids in the West End. Their leadership (Mark Lawson) worked with OTR Community Housing to support the placement of a 62-unit income-based facility for individuals with mental illness a few feet from Theodore M Berry Children & Family Learning Center (Head Start) in the West End. That would never happen in a white neighborhood. Why is that? There is a reason poverty is intentionally concentrated in poor black neighborhoods.

Absolutely pointless! Over several months Ive contacted this agency 5x in total for assistance only to be given continual run-around after being instructed to submit information for approval with no follow up, then when I call back everyone is clueless while other times put on hold and sent to voicemail boxes with no callback. Whats the point???

Been calling this place for years.. you can’t speak to someone or get anyone on the phone. How do they receive cash grants and payments to help people in need and you can’t even get threw to someone to speak with regarding help with rent and utilities.. some needs to investigate in this place.. they don’t help as they should .. what are you allDoing to help the people in need. And it’s not like COVID 19 is the reason for this.. COMMUNITY ACTION AGENCY NEVER ANSWERS THE PHONE.. you can’t even leave a voicemail like other business to be contacted within 2-3 business days.. like come on?? Why is this.. who’s running this place??

Can never reach this agency by phone. The answering machine mailbox is always full so...How do they expect anyone to contact them?It seems to me that in this age of 24/7 business and computers they should be able to set up a system that works for their clients instead of the constant inefficiency unless, of course, they do not really want to help their clients. Terrible agency.

You cant get a human on the phone here. Walk-in appointments have to be scheduled through an automated phone system only available Monday through Thursday... and oh, what a shock, invariably theyre all taken for the day you call. Not even a laugh, this is just depressing.

Called phone number (option 3) looking for resources. The woman on the phone had very poor customer service skills and sounded annoyed and impatient. I was very kind to her. Dont work in the field of social services if you have no desire to help people. Very discouraging experience.

I come here to get my taxes done every year. They do great things for the community. Reason I gave it one star is because I spoke to Doris she is very rude and has a nasty ass attitude over the phone. I simply asked her about what time they was going to be filing taxes. If you dont like your job then quit.

The head start program is a joke in some ways... Granted you have some nice individuals there... I love the principle an some teachers. Others act as if its a crime to ask questions when its concerning your child and or information... Honestly communication is key and i believe they really need to focuse on that... Other wise lots of errors will occur because of it... Every 1 needs to be on the same page... However one teacher in particular is really irritating as hell alisha graft... She was my sons teacher an she asted like she didnt know her ass feom a whole i n the ground... They made a bad choice hiring her... What sense does it make to tell me what my son did 3weeks ago when i ask u every day how he is doing an all u can tell me is he is fine? But other teachers can tell me more about my child then u and u are his primary teacher? Honestly im not the only parent who believes shes on some type of drug.....

I was certified for the Pipp program in August. I received from first bill from Duke for $232.00. The bill was only $107. Did you even look at my bill? We only paid over $200 in the winter months. Is this a bait and switch program? I thought this was to help us with the payment, but I am paying MORE than the bill. Why would I pay more for the bill than I owe? I called Duke and Duke sent me to the Community Action Center. When I called the number they gave me, it was only an appointment line. The number the appointment line gave me sent me to a number that rang and rang and then hung up on me. I NEED AN EXPLANATION -- I feel duped. This has all the appearance of being a scam.

This is the worst organization. Very poorly ran. I think they get money from the state or county and from United Way. I will no longer be donating to these organizations.
