I normally dont write these things but Thompson got it. So when I had tires put on last year at another location I took it there to have a alignment done. Well they take it in no problem about 30-40 minutes later they come back and say it needs ball joints so it can be aligned right now well they quote me a hefty price and I pass as I couldnt afford it then. Flash forward a year after finally getting ball joints done I take it back there under the assumption from last year that they could do it. Get there an 10 minutes later someone walks up and says its too big we cant do it after I made a appointment told them what it was and everything and they still wasted my time wouldnt recommend them if you have a dually truckTo their latest response then why did you do it last year or attempt to

This is a serious business committed to fair prices. My son took his car for a starter repair a got the best price in the area. Assessment was right on target and the customer service was superb.Will take my car to this shop again without reservations.

I had a terrible experience with this company. I told a Thompson tire lady to use a tire rotation and oil change coupon for my appointment. The lady answered yes. She first seemed very friendly and reminded me to make sure to present it at the time of payment.However, at the time of payment, when I presented my coupon, a guy told me the tire rotation is for a different kind of oil change, and I can not use that coupon.Then this lady told me to pay what the guy told me, or she would keep my car. I have never been so disrespected before by a company. They are rude, they are inconsistent, and they try to take advantage of you.

I started going here because the place across the street failed me on an inspection and then tried to sell me on repairs that were needed to correct the problems... Im a body guy, and I restore cars, so I know when a ball-joint needs replaced, but they didnt know that....I took it directly to Thompson and asked them to look at these items, specifically. Yep, no problems... got my inspection and they got a lifetime customer!I only go here now, because I dont have a way to change/balance tires and accurate alignment in my workshop. ...and I dont turn wrenches on my wifes car... ever...Theyre honest (of course, they have to make money, theyre a business so, yea, they are expensive!), and kind. If possible, look up what your car needs and go armed with some knowledge to TALK to them about your problems instead of whining about it... ...just a suggestion.....Im sure they get upset when you get their order wrong at the drive-thru...

Whelp I need a new mechanic, this one has gone downhill fast. First, during a recent visit they said my wifes car needed new tires. I said great, had them ordered and installed. Upon picking up the car the total cost was for everything except tires. They seemed astounded that had occurred, installed the tires and came and picked me up from my home to collect my car at a later date. The final straw was yesterday. I had a lot of work performed on my car, some of which was initially refused due to customer parts (both headlight assemblies and associated rubber boots and plugs, which I can understand though I was let down). I got the usual calls about the other repairs (brake work and AC repair) and the updated status and pricing of those (great calls BTW) and started looking for a shop to install the headlights, and ordered all new bulbs to make the job as easy as possible. I then received the call my car was ready and they had made an exception and installed my headlights, so a bittersweet bit of news but I was glad to have that over with. Upon picking up the car all was well until walking back out to it and seeing rusty mismatched lug nuts. I opened the trunk to find the oil and filter, all the lug nuts still new in the boxes, and all the new rubber boots and sockets for the headlights sitting there. I left furious. This morning I went out to my car to leave for work and only one headlight came on. Also they didnt aim them, and seemingly didnt clean the contacts on the cars plug. Itd be different if they could claim poor communication but with my keys I provided a typed list of all the work to be performed. If they cant follow that list, I cant trust them to perform the work on my car.Feb 2021 update - Wifes car is failing to start and come to find out Thompson Tire put a smaller size battery in her car than the manufacturer (Interstate) recommends.

Have herd good and bad things about this place but my experience was over priced and ridiculous answers to the questions I asked that were supposedly wrong with my vehicle. Hope everyone else has better luck

I generally dont leave negative reviews, but it seems this place is out to gouge people on repairs. I have leaking exhaust manifolds and need to have them replaced. Advance Auto sells the Dorman OE replacements for $740 apiece (my vehicle needs 2), so $1500 total. Repair manuals state that this is a 5-7.5 hour job; lets go with 7.5 hours at $100 per hour (which is a little high.) Lets add a $50 shop fee for a total of $800. Logically, the repair at that cost would be $2300. I received a quote from Thompson Tire for $3000!I was able to source Eastern Catalytic OE manifolds with gaskets and a 5 year warranty from Rock Auto shipped to me for $400 total. I could have gone with a cheaper brand and gotten them for $300, but I feel better with the warranty. I received a quote from another shop for $600 to do the installation... A total of $1000 for the repair.Even if you look at the high end, Thompson Tire quoted $700 more than they should have. They quoted me $2000 more than I ended up paying for the job. I have colleagues who have stated they received quotes which seem exorbitantly high as well. Stay away!Update: I wish I could respond directly owners response. I never mentioned eBay, although I did say it was possible to get the parts for $100 apiece when I was at the shop. In fact, if you read my review, you will see that I paid more and bought them from Rock Auto, a reputable dealer. Also, I never received a lower quote. $3000 was the only quote I ever received. If that is including the parts, then you charge too much for labor and/or your markup on parts is absurd.

James and Mike provided honest service and took good care of me today. I had new tires put on at a wholesale warehouse tire center in Charlottesville only to get home and find a deflated front tire due to a leaking TPMS seal. I stopped by Thompson Tire in Christiansburg and they removed the tire, fixed the leak and got me on my way in an hour and a half. Makes me wish I had gone straight to Thompson for my tires to begin with.

One of the worst experiences I’ve had. My passenger low beam light was out. Went in for an inspection. They never fixed my passenger light!!! Somehow it passed inspection. Clearly they aren’t doing there job!! Tell me how you pass an inspection and never checked my lights!! Also, I lifted my hood and noticed they left a screwdriver under my hood!! Do better! Awful service.

Fixed an electrical issue that had been plaguing my car for years that three other mechanics could not fix, for reasonable charge.

Thompson will definitely sell you a set of tires. You can forget being able to rotate and/or have them balanced. The service department is always “short handed”. You can not set an appointment to have the service done either. When the tires were purchased and installed on my vehicle, the employees broke one of the sensors in one of the rims. I had to take the vehicle to the dealer for a costly replacement. I don’t mind paying but I do expect service. I will be using another tire shop moving forward!

Worst experience Ive had in over 30 years of car ownership-- just to get a set of new tires put on and to replace one rim... going on the 5th trip back to the Christiansburg location today after (1) they ordered and installed a temp/emergency full size spare rim instead of OEM (2) installed the incorrect tires I ordered (3) re-ordered and installed a second incorrect rim that didnt allow the hub cap to be re-attached (4) incorrectly mounted the 2nd, correct set of tires. Still not reconciled at the 5th trip back. The manager has been nice throughout the process but buyer beware on the level of competence of this team. I would strongly discourage anyone I cared about from using this business.

Poor service. Had an appointment. Waited for 20 minutes. Left without oil change. Refuse to wait when I had the appointment and even got there 10 minutes early. Would not recommend Thomson tire

I have always had good service at Thompson Tire. I started using them at their old location and have used them at their current location too.They are good people who do a good job. Their prices are fair and I have never felt ripped off.

My one and only experience with Thompson Tire was very poor. I have been in business for myself for 21 years and i would never treat one of my customers the way they treated me. I had a flat tire on my tiller so i called Thompson and they told me that they would have to look at the tire to know if the tube they had would work. I took them the tire and their service people said it would be ready in 30-45 minutes. I returned an hour and half later to be told that the valve stem was wrong and they would have to order the tube. I told them it would have been nice to get a call from them instead of having to drive back to find that they had made a mistake. A simple apology would have satisfied me, but instead the man got defensive and stood with his hands on his hips and glared at me and refused to take any responsibility for their mistake. Bad business.

I called and asked them if they install low-profile tires on sports car wheels.Their response: We dont mount tires for customers.The guy who answered sounded either drunk or high. Needless to say, I wont be buying nor having any tires mounted at Thompson Tire.

Staff was non caring and unprofessional. Went in for an inspection sticker at 3 pm Service manager asked if there was time for an inspection and shop manager said yes We waited one and a half hours and shop came out and said we have met our quota today and WILL NOT DO THE INSPECTION ‼️A professional business would not operate in such an anti customer manner.

The worse place to make state inspection, never did it at Thompson, but I had their coupon and wanted to try a new place. Wasting time and money to go there. They enjoy to make you fail inspection. I have not passed state inspection there, but had passed at a different place.Dont go to Thompson unless your car is absolutely new. Even then I would not go to Thompson tire, Staff was not friendly.

Called and inquired about doing a front end alignment on a VW bettle. Asked specifically if they could service VW as I know not everyone can. I was assured they could. Made 35 min trip to drop off car. Received a call the next morning and was informed that No, we cant actually align your car. Another 35 min trip back to retrieve car. Super disappointed. Dont say you can do something if you cant do it.

Just got an oil change here recently and immediately after this, the oil pressure light came on my dash and I had to take it back to another auto shop to get it checked out. Turns out my oil was extremely low so either they put the wrong oil in it or they didnt give it an oil change at all. My car was completely fine, no leaks or anything so this was definitely poor work on their end.

Its not bad. They charged me about 400 to replace brake pads and rotors for the state safety inspection. Fairly quick and you dont need to make an appointment.

We had a roadside emergency and were able to nurse the RV to Thompsons for a new tire. Friendly and fast, they took immediate care of us and we were on the road within an hour. Thank you. Outstanding!

Went to Thompson Tire for an oil change - ONLY!An hour (!) later, a lady came out and told me - as a courtesy - Thompson Tire checked over some things and found a list of areas wrong with my car!I told her I only came in for an oil change and I didnt ask Thompson Tire to do a courtesy check.She told me if I didnt get these areas fixed, it could do worse damage to my car.So, l said yes and ended up paying over $500.This was sickening to my stomach, as I needed that money for bills, Christmas, etc.In the future, if someone goes in for an oil change, then just do an oil change.It makes Thompson Tire look dishonest.And, everything they did had better work, too or Im taking my car back and Thompson Tire is fixing it for free!I hope Thompson Tire has a Merry Christmas from the money I gave them.- Brian Compton

Went for an oil change and inspection at 730am. Was 3rd in line. Got the work done on my car and pick up at 1:30 pm (Five and half hour wait). Paid and drove a short distance to see that they didnt change the inspection sticker. Go back to find that it was never done and now Im waiting again even though I paid for the service. Had to wait another hour and half to finally get my car inspected (7 hours total). Will not be coming back here with my other two vehicles.

I had a terrible experience with this company. I had been a loyal customer to this company for the past 2 years, but I will never go back. There is a lady there that I had never directly had to deal with before until recently. But she was extremely rude to me. She tried to convince me to put another timing belt on, which THIS COMPANY had recently done, and she kept saying that she didnt see it in her records. She convinced me that my car needed a tune up, which cost almost $200, and that wasnt even what my car needed, it needed ignition coils, which I told them when I went in. Then when I was asking about the work they had done, she said that my car only had 2 ignition coils, when I know it has 4 for each piston. She continued to be rude and argued with me about it. I asked her to talk to the mechanic who actually worked on my car and she refused. I called my boyfriend to come in and she immediately let him talk to the mechanic, in which I was right about my car having 4 ignition coils. I have never been so disrespected before by a company. I know I dont know a lot about cars, and if you feel like you are no expert either, dont go here, because they will try to take advantage of you.

Amazing service today (09/22/17) at Thompson Tire in Christiansburg. I brought in 2 26x7.5x17 Hoosier Pro-Street Radials along with 17x4.5 rims. I had brought these wheels and tires to 2 other reputable shops and these shops were unable to even get the tire on the bead due to the very stiff sidewall. The techs at Thompson took them back and slaved over these tires for almost 2 hours to get them mounted and balanced properly without any damage to the rims. It took half a five gallon bucket of tire mounting lube and 2 cheetah tanks simultaneously to get these tires seated, but they got it done no problem. The front end employees were also extremely kind and helpful during the entire process. I have nothing but good words for this shop.

Ive lived in Christiansburg nearly a decade and have taken vehicles to a number of repair & tire shops in town. Ive come to Thompson for several sets of tires and alignments now, and they are the one place that hasnt let me down; they are consistently friendly, competent, and very reasonably priced. So far their work has been top notch and they never try to upsell me anything. Ill keep coming back.

My 16-year-old daughter blew out a tire while I was out of town. Thompson Tire put the wrong sized tire on (55 aspect ratio rather than 65 like the other three tires). Very dangerous. The size difference was so great that grandma noticed it when the car got home. This is about as serious of an error as supposed tire professionals can make. Grandma had to take the car back in for a proper sized tire, which amazingly they had in stock after specially ordering the first wrong-sized tire.

Had my truck back on the road faster than expected. Staff was friendly and kept me informed as to the issues with it.

Less than 25k miles later I was driving across the bypass (65 mph) and my tire pressure sensor came on. My front tire had blown out. Got to Thompson and was informed they felt my tire blowout was due to impact (saying I hit something...which I did not-there was no evidence around the blowout or on my rim suggesting I had hit anything) Because of this...my warranty wasnt honored. Ordered 4 new tires, next day delivery, but then I recieved a call that all 4 of my tire pressure sensors (spontaneously) were corroded and needed to be replaced. They were perfect 8 months before when they installed the 1st set of tires. First set of tires=$1k 8 months later Second set of tires, 4 tire pressure sensors, and a warranty that wasnt honored=$1k.

I currently have mixed feeling about the Christiansburg Thompson Tire. I have been taking my vehicle here for a long time, with no issue- but just for minor things. And the employees are always kind.Back in January, before my children and I left for a road trip to visit family in Delaware, I asked them to perform an oil change as well as a trip check to make sure everything was SAFE., because I have never taken this particular vehicle any further than Roanoke.They said all was well, except needing a couple new tires soon. That was fair.Well, halfway to Delaware, the vehicle started making some funny noises. I arrived in Delaware on New Years eve, so I couldnt get it checked out until January 2nd. I took it to a Honda Dealorship, and as soon as they put it up on the lift, BOTH AXLES FELL OFF!!! They just fell. Right. Off.Fast forward $1,300 later- Honda said it was miracle that I even made it to Delaware without an incident. So much for that trip check to ensure safety!!! I wouldnt be so angry if my two small children had not been with me. Our lives were put at risk. And I will not be returning to the Christiansburg Thompson Tire ever again.

She called back later that day and said that one of the shocks was going bad which would be another $200+ for one shock and install I asked her if it would pass inspection without replacing it she said she didnt know and I asked her what that part was (I am 68 years old and dont have much car knowledge) she said it has to do with how much the car bounces when you hit pot holes this was not a very good explanation but I knew what she was talking about but she continued to talk to me like I was ignorant. I told her not to replace shock. I went in and asked to I talked to on the phone and a shoulder length dark haired heavy set lady came up yelling whos asking? I explained to her who I was and proceeded to pick up my vehicle up and pay she kept going back to check her phone the entire time while ringing me up and was VERY rude. I will not be returning to this establishment if they cannot better inform their employees of customer service and manners to their elders or have them try and find out instead of saying I dont know...

I took my car here to get it serviced. They quoted me one price on the phone and ended up finding 200+ more dollars worth of work that it needed to be fixed that day which was okay because at least it would be fixed so I gave the okay for the work. Then they call me back a second time while working on my car and tell me they found another 650 dollars worth of work that needed to be done before it would pass inspection. I decided to get a second opinion so I went to get my car after being assured it would be okay to drive several times. I drove off their lot less than one mile and my power steering pressure line blew due to being over tightened, I drive 64+ miles a day to work and home and have no problems with my power steering ever. I called them and they agreed to fix it no charge but it took them 3 days to do so. Since having all of that work done the original problem is still there and the work they said I would nee isnt needed and my car passed inspection. All in all the experience was horrible and I would not recommend this place it anyone.

I recent had a tire blow out on my way to NC. Had to spend the night in Christiansburg and randomly selected Thompson Tire as the place to try the next morning. I had a difficult tire to get and they went above and beyond to try and help me out. Just wanted to say THANKS! by sharing my experience. I fully recommend them!!!!
