Zero stars if I could. NOTE: Owner Mitch died last year. Before his passing, terrible customer service. Kept my CD changer for 6 MONTHS and never repaired it. Go to Anthonys Electronics on Broadway.

Went in to find a power cord for a snes. They found the one I needed and tested it with the system to make sure it would work. Great guys and very helpful with any questions I had.

I Think they should just Return Un-Repaired items to their rightful owners and call it a day.. since they are not obviously able to repair equipment properly and in a timely manner... They were once a Good Shop... 10 plus years ago.

I hate rating this place so low, but they are selling items in a limited market for way over market value. If I wanted an analog amp, I could find one on eBay for much cheaper. Digital ones out-perform all of this equipment at a fraction of the cost. The man behind the desk barely moves or maintains his shop. Each time I stop by, he wont entertain dropping the price on certain items or doing a bulk discount. I want to give him my business but his prices arent competitive. For that, he cant pay his rent and its very sad to see him go out of business. Please! At least get up and clean the shop! Invite people to come in! Hold a special sale for cassette players or something! Innovate!

I thought I understood having an ear for music till i meet the owners. GEMS is an understatement. They know how to pair the right used sound system with the right owners. They both have an understanding of equipment and sound like a few I meet ... support small family business like theses

Just saw a feature on CBS Channel 2 on this store. The folks who are the only owners & are the only ones who work there, are a married couple in their 80’s !There’s a go fund me page for them - see if you can contribute - and /or stop in & give them some business. Who can’t use a new boom box ?!!

Wonderful people working hard in their old age. Good work. Fair price. TAKE NOTE: The store is crammed to the rafters with refurbished & NOS equipment. If your TV is too big, it wont fit! They have size limits on what they can accept which are beyond their control (unless you want to cover the rent on a bigger storefront.) And at their age they are more than entitled to choose which products they prefer to work on.

I dropped of an older audio receiver for repair at this shop. Was assured everything was working but was never told what was actually done with the receiver. While it sounded fine in shop for the minute or so, the issue came back.I called the shop to ask if their was a warranty on the repair and if I could drop it back off for a second look. “No” was the answer I got before being hung up on.Zero explanation for what goes on with the repair. No second looks. The man that runs the shop seems very knowledgeable but this was truly an awful customer experience.

This is a wonderful place! The couple that owns the store was very helpful. They have an excellent selection! They even played an old stereo for us that we were curious about! I highly suggest checking this place out if you are looking for stereos or a place to get yours repaired!

This store is an absolute gem! A wonderful elderly married couple runs it and is happy to show you his proud collection of antique and iconic AV equipment. Truly a one of one store and any passerby that has five minute should take a trip down memory lane.

They stole $160 from me. That was the deposit I put down for a refurbished tape machine. It was supposed to be ready within 1-2 weeks. Over 3 months later, it still isn’t ready, and they refuse to give my deposit back.

Kind elderly shopkeepers, lots of cool vintage stereo equipment, some new and new old stock inventory. If you need a repair done fast, go somewhere else. Some obviously dont see the value in a place like this, its practically a vintage stereo museum, and a one-of-a-kind Chicago original.

I have known this place since 1972. It is my fantasy island. Mitch is still going 💪 strong. In his 80s I am sure.

A very strange experience and disappointing experience. They kept my radio for over 2 and 1/2 months and I had to demand to get it back at the end. I still lost half of my money, 50 dollars, even though they didnt fix it. They said they worked on it for five hours and that I had a 50 dollar credit if I decided to come back. I wont.

The couple that owns this store are the nicest people. Helped me shop for a turntable/receiver combo, ended up with a great vintage unit at a really fair price. Tested everything in store with me before finalizing sale. Got it home and it works great, Im very happy with it.

The individuals working at this establishment were of great assistance and fixed my fathers 80s Pioneer Console and record player. They also brought the system back to its mint condition. One thing I would suggest is to ask up front how much its going to cost for a repair approximately because I was a little surprised to find out it cost me over around $120 to fix it, although certainly worth it.

They said they repaired my CD player but then lost it in their store. I even tried to look for it there and couldn’t find it. They refused to return my $40 and even asked for $10 more when I borrowed a somewhat defective player to use until they located mine. They plead old age and poverty but I’m just as old; they are just incompetent in managing their business. It has been almost a year now and I’ve never heard from them. Don’t risk using this shop

Not only a fun place to visit this small shop crammed with 20th century electronic goodies (it has childhood nostalgia written all over it for me), but also picked up a couple items for a reasonable price. The owners are a trip too. I will definitely go back.

I think 2 is too many stars. I didnt get a chance to utilize their services because they wouldnt accept my TV repair job. I was told my TV was too big (52 Vizio). I suppose my television is 21st century and they dont specialize in that..?

I brought in my reel to reel 4 track and asked to get it fixed. 8 months later they asked me to pick it up. They said they had no way to test it and assured me that it worked. When I brought it home though, the machine still didnt work, and it cost me 350 dollars. Get your work done somewhere else.
