I have lived at Gateway West for almost 2 years now. The management here is unmatched. Robert, Bonita, Josh, and Morgan do an amazing job with being communicative and making sure us residents are heard if there are any issues. Having management that you can trust is hard to come by, but these folks are the best in the game! I would never want to rent anywhere else in Charlotte. After doing extensive research before moving to Charlotte, I found that Gateway had the best location for the best price point if you’re wanting to live in uptown. Gateway goes above and beyond to ensure that you’re safe, satisfied, and comfortable. 10/10 recommend making Gateway your new home!

Recently moved to Charlotte from out of state. I toured almost 20 apartment complexes in the Uptown, NoDa, SouthEnd, and Plaza Midwood areas. I decided on Gateway West due to its central location, value for price, and the apartment unit.Josh and his team have been nothing but accommodating, quickly corrected a maintenance concern upon move-in, and have been readily available to answer questions via phone or email from afar. There are newer apartment complexes in the area, but none that can meet the value for rent (most are several hundred dollars more a month for some higher end finishes). My unit was clean upon move in and well updated. In the short time I have been there (2 weeks), I have witnessed housekeeping cleaning the floors and entire facility daily. They are friendly and say hello when they pass you as well. Resident parking is abundant. There are about 30 guest parking stalls (make sure you have your guest pass showing). Based on prior Google reviews, I believe Josh, the new Manager, has made sweeping positive changes.Overall, I would recommend taking a tour if looking in the Uptown area.

Ive lived at Gateway West for almost 2 years.. and there are several reasons why I remain.. I love my studio apartment! Its cozy, just enough space for me and guests.. I love the city views, the courtyard allows me to work and play.. I love my free morning coffee and I especially love the location.. its a mixture of city and residential. The Frazier Park Greenway is right outside the building and the accessibility by car to major highways is less than 1/4 mile away. As a single woman I always feel safe and Ive also connected well with my neighbors.. Management is easy to talk with and assists with any concerns that I may have.. There was a moment that I was concerned with housekeeping however Ive seen improvement and Im comfortable to bring guests and lounge in community areas now.

I have lived here for nearly 3 years and I used to be able to give this complex great reviews, but unfortunately as my rent has gone up each year the quality has gone down. If you need anything completed in your unit or have a concern it takes many many emails and calls for you to get a response, typically with no solution. On top of that, they have begun to not fix any maintenance issues unless it is an emergency, yet you will pay the same high rent as any other complex. They began a project in the garage at the beginning of December that has now consisted of two months of incredibly loud drilling while trying to work from home with no ETA of completion. The pool in the summer consists of large groups of non-residents sneaking in with no space for you to enjoy the area. If there is trash or pet feces left somewhere in the complex like the stairwell, expect it to not be cleaned up by the maintenance staff. It has been sad to see what has happened to a complex that used to be such a great place to live, but evaluating the price of the rent and comparing to other complexes, I would choose higher quality and better service.

I was excited to move into this apartment because of its great location and amenities. However, management ruined the experience for me. I do believe their policies are meant to improve the quality of life of tenants but they are poorly executed and the staff lacks professionalism. Any suggestions for improvement or complaints are met with ridicule and a “sorry not my problem” attitude.Expect to get nickle-and-dimed for everything. See below for a few of my own experiences as a resident:-They will steal your deposit, charge additional fees and claim damages greater than normal wear and tear (see pictures for reference). The pictures below were taken the day I moved out after living there for more than 2 years. The areas of contrast seen on the carpet are where the furniture was sitting versus those areas that were exposed to foot traffic. There are absolutely no holes/rips/stains on that carpet that would constitute for “damages greater than normal wear and tear”. A cleaning would have sufficed but instead they claim to have to replace the carpet and bill you for part of the cost. I was also assessed an additional cleaning fee because the bathroom was “EXCESSIVELY” dirty. I guess their make-ready process consists of nothing more than tightening light bulbs in between rentals. I even requested a move-out inspection but they told me that a 10 minute move-out inspection needed to be requested 1-2 weeks in advance.-There are not enough visitor parking spaces available. If you want to park inside the garage they require tenants to get daily parking passes, however, they dont offer a way for tenants to get them outside of business hours (as if tenants didnt have jobs of their own). Last minute plans with friends are not allowed at your luxury apartment! If you do, prepare to have your car towed in the middle of the night and expect to pay $200 to get it back.-Dog owners routinely leave their pets’ feces and urine behind without any punishment, yet if you put your trash bin outside your door before the pick up time you will be charged a fee.-The apartment is loud. Noise travels far inside the apartment and you can easily hear your neighbor’s footsteps in the units above.

Horrible place to live and I was there for almost 2 years.I had high expectations when moving into Gateway West but was left with disappointment. The apartment building is cheaply made. I was able to hear my neighbors above me WALK day and night. I could also hear anything they did in their apartment from cleaning to cooking. It was extremely loud. I was never able to receive a full night rest. This building is EXTREMELY DOG FRIENDLY! So, if you’re not a fan of dogs BEWARE! Almost all residents have dogs and most of them are large. There isn’t a weight restriction (I was on the elevator with a 90-pound dog once). Another result of this is messy hallways and elevators that contains dog feces or urine. When people are moving in they leave the side gate open all day. My car was broken into and completely trashed while PARKED IN THE PARKING GARAGE. If you’re big on security this will be an issue. Also the staff in the leasing office is a revolving door. Leasing agent don’t last long. Also the staff is very vague on all the information they give you from subleasing to complaints you’ve filed. They miscommunicate a lot but never take ownership for what they’ve said. It’s a very nice property but everything that glitters isn’t gold.P.S. Forget having guest over, you only get one parking passPLEASE DON’T MOVE IN GATEWAY WEST.

I would not recommend living here. The apartment itself is nice, but this is the most expensive place I have lived in Charlotte, yet the worst experience. Ive never left a review before, but people should know what theyre getting into. The office staff are nice, but that doesnt change that this place has a lot of things they need to work on. I was promised a ceiling light and fan in the bedroom at the first of the year, and that still has not happened. We pay for pest control, yet I come back from staying somewhere else for 2 months to ants everywhere. There were also extra fees that we werent told about on the tour. My rental car was towed after I was told that they didnt have temporary passes, but I came to find out that they did, but the office staff member didnt feel like getting me one. One of my packages was lost for a while. Now, we arent allowed in the pool area with our guests, and apparently we arent allowed in the rest of the court-yard either, even with no one out there. I understand there needs to be precautions with COVID, but this seems ridiculous considering during quarantine, there were groups of people at the pool constantly. I was very excited to live here at first, but its not worth the $1,530 I pay.

I love being able to come home and watch a sunset from my balcony or have a friend over at the pool with the amazing view of the Queen City Skyline. I also love being able to get in a workout from the comfort of my apartment complex. The staff has always been great (Bonita is the best!) and the common areas are usually kept clean. I was visiting a resident and had my car booted. After talking to the leasing office and explaining that I had a guest pass, they told me it wasnt their problem and insisted there was nothing they could do. I then reached out to the office manager and never even received a response. While the apartment complex is fairly nice, it doesnt seem like the leasing staff has the best interest of their residents and guests in mind. Ive had similar experience in other apartment complexes and every time there has ever been an issue with parking or towing, the staff has handled it quickly and courteously. Cant recommend.

Ive been living at gateway 3 years in December. Love the layout of my apartment and how spacious it is. Really love the pool and courtyard area, such beautiful views! Location is great, far enough from uptown hoopla but close enough to be able to walk/ uber anywhere. Ive had very few maintenance requests and theyve been handled quickly. Apart from that, havent had any real issues. Visitor parking isnt great, I got one pass for parking so I really cant have more than a couple friends visit at a time without them having to worry about where to park. That would be my only real complaint. Otherwise I have really enjoyed living here and as long as my rent doesnt get hiked up too much Ill hopefully be renewing in January!Just wanted to update my post now that another year has passed. Still love living here and the new management team has been making some amazing changes!! They are so helpful and attentive now it has gotten even better.

In one word = TERRIBLEThe rents are very expensive. They tack on service fees for everything from cable, internet, water, trash and miscellaneous which is not fully disclosed at lease signing. The entire property management and engineering staff churns about every 4 months making it even more difficult for residents to train the new people and the incompetent process repeats again!Operated by FCA properties.FCA - Failed / Confused / AmateursStaff rarely follows through on service requests and other support items for residents. The building has approximately 385 apartments spread out across a large footprint.Garage parking is not secure, even with the security gates, car vandalism is also an issue.Their towing company boots cars in error and it costs a lot to have the tire boot removed by the towing company.Elevator and stair access is like a maze of confusing entries and exits.Staff does not mandate that all residents wear protective masks when in common areas, elevators, stairs and hallways.Better to skip Gateway West NOT Luxury Apartments! We finally moved to leave this awfully messed up property. You’ve been warned. Please see all reviews about this property. You can even walk to Panthers and Hornets games. Not to mention the units are extremely affordable for the amount of space. This is the perfect apartment to live in to enjoy all of uptown!

Wanna make a bet? Ill bet 1 trillion dollars if you call in, youll get no answer. The attention management pays to residents is laughable, and that goes for all 8 or so management teams have been in place over the last two years. Each one has gotten progressively worse (Carol & Mario were great...not sure where they went). Not sure why they chose property management as their profession if they were so dead set on being terrible at it, but I digress. The property is (mostly) beautiful. Nice little pocket of uptown that isnt too busy but still right where you want it to be. Awesome pool with a stellar view of the skyline, honestly its the best part about that place. I will say the maintenance team was lights out - if we had an issue, they were there. Wish the office management had the same enthusiasm. If Carol stayed, this building gets a 5. I refuse to give 1 star reviews because I think most people give them out of spite. My experience truly deserves a 1, but I think this rating is more accurate. Im so excited to leave that Ive ended my lease early to sign elsewhere.

During my tour of my apartment with the Assistant Property Manager on September 5th, there were things I noticed that needed to be resolved before I moved in on the 21st. I sent a detailed email on September 12th asking if the cleanliness of the apartment would be resolved before I moved in or to be provided a list of things their professional cleaners cleaned, so I can hire a company to clean the other things. I was assured that my apartment would be deep cleaned by a professional cleaning staff before my move in date.To my surprise, on the day I moved in, my apartment was the exact same as when I viewed it on my tour. The refrigerator smelled horrible, freezer shelves were missing, some inside cover wasn’t attached, the inside lightbulb didn’t work, it was full of stains and grime, a bathroom lightbulb was out, there was human and pet hair, dirt, and crumbs all over the bathroom and bedroom floor, the shelves in the pantry and bedroom were extremely dirty, the window sills were full of dirt, the bathroom and kitchen sink had caked up grime around the edges, amongst other things.I sent an email with pictures attached to the Assistant Property Manager expressing my disappointment in the lack of cleanliness especially during COVID-19. Once again, had I known my apartment wouldn’t be cleaned properly, I would’ve hired my own professional cleaning company. I was given excuses as to why my apartment wasn’t cleaned to “my standards” as if having a clean apartment was above basic/average standards. The Property Manager emailed saying they would have a cleaning crew come again. I was told to provide a list of days that I would be home so the cleaners would have access and I did. After a few days of not having a cleaning date, I emailed the management team for a follow up. I was told that the cleaners were busy and couldn’t provide a date. After a few exchanges and asking to void my lease agreement, I was given a cleaning date and told that they should arrive early in the morning. The “professional cleaner” arrived at 11am on October 5th with a shower caddie that held cleaning solutions, a broom, and a dirty cloth. My apartment was spot cleaned and she left. After telling myself their professional cleaner tried her best, I had to go behind her to do a deep cleaning so I can finally unpack my things and make the apartment feel like home. After being told by the Assistant Property Manager during my tour and on my move in date I could have temporary parking pass if I needed to, I was denied it by the Property Manager. When I went to the office to retrieve one, the Property Manager was extremely rude and condescending. His first response was asking if I lived there and then asked if I spoke to the Assistant Property Manager or someone in the office about getting one. I told him that I did live there and I didn’t speak to someone beforehand. He said that they do not give temporary visitor’s parking passes. I knew that was false information because I was told twice by the Assistant Property Manager that I could and I received one the previous week. The Property Manager then said it was a one time thing and that I couldn’t get one. I emailed the Assistant Property Manager to get an understanding of the sudden change of parking policy. I was told that because I didn’t provide a reason to needing a temporary parking pass that I couldn’t get one. This past weekend, my visitor’s car was booted after parking in an unreserved parking space. When speaking to the Property Manager about the situation, he was very rude and condescending once again. I’m not sure if he acts this way with other residents, but his behavior is unacceptable. He needs to take professional development courses if he continues to work with the public.

The other agent- not so friendly(based on first impression). The parking situation is not ideal; along with a tight gate entrance, only one guest parking pass is given per lease holder. Even with a pass, there is no guarantee that my guest will be able to find a park. The parking needs to be readjusted- other that I love it!Not having the ability to make a copy of my key fob is also inconvenient. All in all, I definitely recommend!

I have been a resident at Gateway for almost 2 years. During this time, I have had a good experience with the managers and my experience has overall been pleasant. There are two main things that sold me about Gateway. (1) The location: I love being within walking distance to the city. The greenway and parks are a few minutes away... you have the best of both worlds. (2) The amenities/apartment space: I love my studio space. There is tons of natural light and the layout is the best I have seen in the city so far. Additionally, management is great and they are responsive to my requests and concerns. The pool, courtyards and city views are amazing as well.

I’ve been in this apartment for a year now and it was honestly the BEST move I ever made! The apartments: The apartments are super spacious and updated. Definitely feel like I’m living the luxurious life! My view of the Charlotte skyline makes everyone jealous! I have yet to experience any issues. Heating and cooling the apartment has never been an issue and it doesn’t cost much to keep it the temperature you like. If you’re like me, I prefer natural air and the windows and balcony door are big enough and great for letting you smell the fresh air. My girlfriends all have mentioned how spacious the closets are. I never have to worry about shopping too much! The apartment is definitely a GREAT bang for your buck! The environment: The location of the apartments could honestly not be any better. I walk right in the heart of downtown without even breaking a sweat it’s so close by. With that said, the location is so optimal that while you are literally walking minutes away from the heart of the city, you are back just far enough to get a breathtaking view of the skyline, and don’t have the loud ruckus of city life. The staff: Every encounter I’ve had with this staff has been great! They are all super informative, eager to help, and readily available. The maintenance crew has honestly been some of the sweetest hard-working people I have met in their line of work. I had went away for a week and I THOUGHT I left my coffee pot on. I called maintenance at like 9pm at night from NY to check on it for my paranoid self, and they could have not been happier and more pleasant to ease my mind. As a matter of fact they laughed at it with me!Neighbors: The halls seem so quite all of the time, I forget that I do even have neighbors. Particularly neighbors with pets. I’m not sure if it’s the wall installation that works so well, or every single pet in building is perfectly trained, but I never have any issue with noise.Mail/Safety: This place has a gated parking garage. I always feel safe coming in and out, and it’s also great to just know that I have a spot uptown that I can always park! One of my favorite things about living here is the package system that they have. I order clothes and shoes all of the time and I never have to worry about my stuff being stolen because they are locked up in lockers with a security code that gets sent directly to my phone. If not for what I’ve mentioned, you should move here if you’re just looking for some peace at home. OVERALL, I love this place and will likely stay until I decide I’m ready to buy a house. I couldn’t ask for a better apartment complex!!!

Location is great! Apartments are a bit outdated. Some big issues here - Spiders infestation - I have had to call pest control 4-5 times in my first 3 months of living here. Residents pets are not trained and you will frequently see dog poop or pee in parking lots, corridor and elevators. You can smell the filth the minute you enter the apartment complex. There is no visitor parking either- something they decided to change mid way through my lease term. I have had Valet Trash not pick up my trash so many times even though I left the trash out before their pick up window. But no matter who you complain to - no one cares or even reply.Management- Management is rude, doesnt reply to you or respond to your calls. This management is one of the worst I have experienced. They have had so many turnovers and seems like its only getting worse. Dont be fooled by the looks of the complex- but avoid living here. Uptown is so competitive, not worth the headache to live in this poorly and cheaply built apartment complex.

I’ve lived here for 8+ months and I’m anxiously awaiting for my lease to end. Anytime I need to speak with someone from the front office, no one is to be found (in-person or on the phone- for example I’ve called 5+ times today and get the voicemail box each time). I’ve had numerous issues within the complex, both with residents and just normal issues that arise while renting. Management has changed several times in the last few months and not for the better. The location is great and the overall aesthetics of this complex are nice, but not worth the money. Many promises were made and not followed through with.

I dont know what stinks worse - the hallways or the management. Ive never had a worse apartment experience. Everything you see on the website and everything the leasing office tells you is all fake. The reality is that everything about this place is a joke. You will literally be fined for every little rule that you break - and there are a lot of rules. Additionally, the towing company will find any fine print rule to tow your car or your guests car. If management really cared about you, they would make sure this wouldnt happen or be explicitly clear about what not to do. The rent is outrageous for the location. Management thinks this apartment is in uptown and has the same quality of living as an uptown apartment but this could not be farther from the truth. Instead of spending their time making the apartment better for the residents, the management will instead probably spend their time responding to this review with some egotistical answer about how everything they do and all the rules they enforce are for the betterment of the community, but guess what - I AM PART OF THE COMMUNITY. I moved into an uptown apartment after finally getting out of this place and the management here actually cares about their residents. Not to mention the rent is cheaper, the amenities are of a much higher quality, and the location is much better. The hallways at Gateway West smell of garbage, probably because the trash chute room is never cleaned and people constantly leave their garbage lying around in it. The elevators constantly smell of cigarette smoke and pet urine. Trash and pet waste are scattered all over the parking garage. One of the parking gates broke and it took forever to get fixed, but dont worry - if your car gets damaged by it, there is a sign right beside it saying management is not responsible for damages caused by the gate. If you want to have friends over, you can only have two over at a time and if you want to go to the pool, you have to wear cheap rubber wristbands to prove that you belong there (literally these wristbands look like the ones you would wear back in middle school because they made you feel cool). What they dont tell you is that you have to return them when you move out and if you dont have them, they will cost you $30 per wristband, even though they probably cost the establishment $1 each. When I was cleaning and moving out, I threw them away because I thought surely they will not want these cheap things back. When asked why they cost so much, I was told “Well this apartment is in prime location so we just don’t want the parking passes or pool passes being sold on the black market once you move out”……..like, are you serious right now? First of all, the location is terrible. It’s too far away to walk and too close to justify paying for a garage pass uptown. Second of all, if you actually believe this is true, I have no clue how you made it this far in life. They will also fine you for a single crumb left in your oven, a single tick mark on your wall, or a single hair left in the shower drain so if you were hoping to get your security deposit back, you can forget about it. A lot of the apartment is vacant which should tell you how bad this place really is. Do yourself a favor and move as far away from this place as possible.

I have been living in Gateway West for for about 8 months now in a studio apartment that I love. When on my initial tour, I was drawn to the modern look of my apartment, with wood floors and stainless steel appliances, my private balcony, the 2 great workout rooms, easy & gated garage parking with a good amount of guest parking, and the breath taking view of the skyline from the pool/courtyard area. There is also a very nice lobby with TVs, a kitchen, free coffee, a theater room, and a game room. Although it is impossible to be a renter anywhere and have ZERO complaints, I can say that while living in Gateway I have come across very minimal issues or negative experiences. I have had only a few maintenance requests, and they were all resolved very promptly. I have a great relationship with the staff here, including the property manager and the leasing agents, who are all very friendly and happy to help me when I present them with any questions! Last, the building is in such an optimal location! Not in the exact heart of uptown but still walking distance from everything that you need, a bus stop right out front, and again, the most beautiful view of the skyline!

I like my specific apartment and the location. I would have given 2 stars until recently.Weve been complaining since July (3 months), about kids breaking into the building and running amok. They break into cars and put our classic car into drive. When we started it, it jolted out of the parking space and could have crashed into someone or into the wall if we had pulled into the space as opposed to being backed in. They kids have damaged and stolen over half the bikes locked up in the garage too. My bike is severely damaged and they came back and cut the lock off and stole my boyfriends bike. The building and garage are equipped with cameras and I give the manager timestamps everytime I see the kids. Nothing has been done. It took me over a month to finally even reach someone after calling, emailing, and stopping by the office (no one was ever there). I had to email through maintenance to get any response.Management has been aware of the kids stealing bikes and hasnt done anything about it. My boyfriend went into the office and told the staff and they lied and said they never knew about the situation. They obviously didnt know who my boyfriend was and that he clearly knew I had been emailing the management team about it. We told them that the kids were currently inside the building at the pool and in the garage, and they STILL didnt go check it out. Its only a matter of time before the kids realize they can take the elevator to the mailroom and start stealing all the packages left all over the floor. To add insult to injury, after living here for 4yrs, they are no longer replacing lightbulbs. Every building has issues with residents trashing the amenities, but the management teams have never really gotten it under control here. Damage to my personal property and their negligence in this situation is just too much. Dont get me started on the dog park that is a lawsuit waiting to happen.

I lived in the Gateway West since the month they starting opening up floors after construction (March/April 2014) and it still feels as though management is on its first week on the job. Biggest complaints are the cleanliness of the building, door hinges that slam shut, noisy residents and there is NEVER guest parking as they allow residents to park wherever. If you are looking for great amenities, Gateway has excellent ones including the gym and pool with grills, but again their are maintenance and cleanliness issues consistently. Overall, the location of the building in uptown is great but there are issues that need to be fixed here to make it an excellent place live.

Being a resident here has been great. The location is awesome. However, there is a lot of room for improvement. One thing in particular I do not like is that pool rules go un-followed and are uninforced. The pool area has become very unorganized during the weekend. People leave empty cans everywhere and do not pick up after themselves. There was also an incident of a dog peeing in the pool. A dog should not have been allowed in the area in the first place. It is an amazing community pool and I am upset that a small portion of the residents have disrespected it.Overall, I do like living here, I hope that there will be some more rules and regulations in the communal centers of the apartment center.

Me and my wife have lived here over 6 months. The staff was very welcoming in the beginning and friendly. We enjoyed our first few months here, but after the honeymoon period faded we began to see the faults. Like many have said, this place was cheaply built. I can hear almost every footstep from my neighbor above and it literally shakes the glasses in our cabinet. No exaggeration. We received a noise complaint from our neighbor below because our dog had a seizure and we ran towards her (about 6-7 steps at 10PM) and the staff was very rude when we called to clarify why we received one. We were also told that the small dog park would be renovated soon. Our friends who moved in 4 months before us were told this too before signing their lease. Right now it is all dirt and rocks and hasnt been touched. When it rains it becomes a muddy mess. This was the old management staff, however. Once the new staff came in we thought it would correct these former issues. I spoke to the new property manager Earl (very kind), to receive a visitor parking pass. He mentioned how there have been issues with guest passes and how it took too much time to write passes to residents. When we signed our lease, we were allowed two visitor passes per leaseholder so we should be able to get 4 passes. I went down to get a pass and it switched to only 2 passes per unit. I suggested to them a hard parking pass where a resident has their own so the office isnt bothered by writing them. About a week later we received an email that they will no longer issue visitor parking passes whatsoever. There are about 25-30 parking spots for a few hundred apartments. It seems that we are no longer able to have guests over unless we park our own cars in a guest spot, which residents can be towed for doing, per our lease. I have NEVER had an issue finding a parking space on the first floor, even when I get home from work at 2-3AM and everyone is settled in. They also do not replace simple things like light bulbs, which is unheard of from my renting experience. All of the apartments I’ve lived in and the rent was less expensive didn’t have a problem supplying lightbulbs. They also use leaf blowers to clear the dust out of the parking decks and my car was covered in dust and scraps of paper. My wife called to get the schedule of when they would do this so our cars would not get scratched up by the rocks and they told her they had no idea when it happens and then hung up on her. The apartment complex looks beautiful, but its poorly built and the staff doesnt take care of their residents after they sign their lease. I truly hope this changes. Its a shame because we were excited to live near Uptown, but its only been disappointing and inconvenient. I hope that they make positive changes for their current residents because it is a beautiful view of Uptown. Thats the only bright side. I am more than willing to alter my review if its justified.

Just relocated to Charlotte for work and was excited about moving down here. After checking out other communities and happen to check out Gateway west on the day of my move in, it has been the WORST EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE. Take note I have only been here for 6 DAYS and cant even comfortably stay in my apartment. I called the leasing office and spoke to the property manager to complain about the health issue I have staying in the apartment and I can’t stay in the apartment for more than 2 hours due to PALPITATION issue I have. He had an arrogant attitude and his manner of approach towards this situation was INSENSITIVE.Due to me feeling CLAUSTROPHOBIC in the apartment it has caused me to be STRESSED AND SEVERELY ANXIOUS in a place that I am SUPPOSE TO CALL HOME!!!! This is affecting me professionally already and He also gave me an option of moving to a 2 bedroom and I should ROOMMATE with someone which is NEVER GOING TO HAPPEN!!! Just for the few days that I have been in this community I barley can’t stay in my apartment for more than 2 hours!!! Just 6 days I have been here, I always hear loud footsteps from the apartment above me, the neighbor’s door is always loud when they close it, the hall way and elevator smells like DOG PEE. I need to be out of the apartment ASAP because I can’t live like this…..

Looks nice at first but youll soon learn management is terrible and ruins an otherwise nice apartment. They are dishonest and disrespectful. When and if you are able to get a hold of them they just say Oh it was an honest mistake but if if keeps happening to me, Im sure it keeps happening to others. Management has a big ego/attitude problem as well and it amazes me that they are still employed here. Bottom line is they do not care about you - they only care about your money. I will not be renewing my lease and I highly advice you to live elsewhere.

If you drive by or visit the apartments they look and feel nice, that is where it ends. It is unfortunate because it is in a good location for work. These apartments were built fast with literally no insulation. You can hear your neighbors even if they are not loud, if they are above you you can here every footstep they take so imagine all the other noise you hear from above. The windows are single pane and you can hear everything that goes on outside, know that nice pool and entertainment area? Think about hearing everything what they are saying outside even being on the top floor. If there are dogs above you be prepared hearing every whine and footstep they make. The management will look you in the face and smile and act like they care and and tell you they will take care of things, dont be fooled, they will not. I live here and cant wait to move just to another place two blocks away just because of the lack of insulation between floors/neighbors. I also have a coworker that lives here, he and his wife had to move within 2 months of moving in because it was so bad. I am real and not a fake poster, I welcome any contact to expand on my contacts. Dont be fooled by the looks of the place.....you can put lipstick on a pig but it is still a pig.My company has removed this place from there recommendations to new employees.... Look at the other local places that are built with cement, you will enjoy your life much better if you do.

DO NOT LIVE HERE!!!! I cannot stress that enough!! Uptown Charlotte is way too competitive and has other communities with managers and staff who actually care about you and want to make things right. Gateway West has done nothing but belittle me, take all of my money, and ignore my phone calls and emails over the last 16 months. Long story short, you will NEVER see your deposit again, so you can pretty much know that going in. They will nickel and dime you for every little thing imaginable - including if there was hair on your floor in your bathroom! I was charged for “excessive” cleaning for hair - I’m just curious what kind of swiffer they had to buy that cost $400 to pick up hair off of tile/hardwood floors? I also would like to briefly mention that the amenities you pay a lot of money for (yes - i’m talking about the pool with the perfect uptown view) NEVER CLEANED. This past summer, another person THREW UP in the pool and it wasn’t cleaned for weeks. You could see chunks floating for nearly 2 weeks after the incident. Once, I asked management if they were planning to spray for the large number of wasps that were under the pool chairs and tables (3 people were stung that day in particular) and the Manager, Mario, looked at me dead in the face and said “Do you live here?” - I was so appalled by this. They expect the residents to buy and change light bulbs and air filters - as long as I’ve lived in an apartment community (almost 5 years now) I have never heard of anything like this before. Let me also touch on the fact that the parking situation is absolute garbage. At one point during my time there, within 1 week 3 emails were sent out with 3 completely different guest parking instructions/rules. Let’s also talk about the fact that you need a guest pass but you can only get a parking pass during office hours - so if you have a last minute plan or a surprise visitor, expect to pay $350 to get their car back from the (also rude - very on brand for FCA) towing company. Basically, these people will take your money it’s just a matter of what BS Fine card you draw that day. After you move out, they will still hose you for hundreds and never call you, email you, or explain to you any detail about it. I would have never known I had lost my deposit and STILL owed money on top of that had I not called because I was FINED $50 for turning my power off the day before my lease ended. I was told I owed $190 over the phone and was told I could pay with cash in person or card over the phone but I demanded a printed statement. When I finally got said statement, my invoice was only for $90 - shady? Ill let you decide. These reviews are accurate and you can even tell how rude the management is by how they responded to anyone who called attention to their behaviors in a review. This also carries into the upper management, no returned emails or phone calls. They cannot be bothered and rather than fire the terrible management staff, they just moved them to another property here in Charlotte. BE WARNED. STEER CLEAR OF FCA MANAGEMENT!!!

Please dont move in to Gateway West unless you want to deal with an unprofessional staff that allows rowdy residents to do as they please. It was a constant battle being able to park within the gated garage because regardless of the parking passes they issue, they allow anyone to park there. They constantly send out emails about the pool rules and how many guests you can have at the pool (which is way too small for over 300 units) and then do NOTHING to uphold them. Good luck getting a spot at the pool during the weekdend because a resident invited over 20 people and is taking up several of the grills and blasting music. The worst part of my experience is that upon moving out I was sent a bill for a stovetop replacement. I called up there inquiring about it and was informed that it was due to normal wear and tear. There was zero damage to the stove other than scratches from placing pots and pans on the burners. I was charged over $200 because I cooked in the 27 months that I lived there. I understand that they want the unit to be appealing to a potential new resident, but the cost of that should not be passed on to me.

Current resident regretting deeply about renting here. Building looked great upon first visit, but when you actually move in youll start to notice endless problems. The hallways have a toxic smell (not the 1st floor though cuz thats where the staff lives:)), the rooms are defective in all aspects you can think of: uneven floor, leaking sinks, doors that wont close... Oh and I need to back Mike&Michaels words about management. They pretended to be professional and helpful just to trick you into signing your lease, then all of a sudden they magically stopped doing their job as soon as you move in. Also all these shady fees management charges, such as $110 for the turbo twc service retailing at $45 plus some nominal pest control and trash fee? Do your math. I considered the recent addition of a package receiving locker system a nice thing because the management has such a short hours of operation and they are always out of office. However as soon as the system was installed, the management announced that they will not be taking any packages in the office. Want some large furnitures delivered? Go pick up from the carrier yourself. (Btw they would charge you to help you carry packages to your apartment before, which is usually complimentary at apartments that charge this much. But I guess that fee is not enough to get these people to work anymore.) Im not paying my rent for a defective building, or to feed some parasites. Are they ever in their offices working?;)

Overall a great place to live with excellent amenities. The reason I am rating 1 star is I have found the leasing office to be dishonest. Recently the leasing office started taking over the water and sewage bill. Prior to this we received the water and sewage bill in the mail from the provider. Cost when billed from the provider was between $10-$12 monthly. Now gateway west bills anywhere between $20-$25 a month. For water and sewage?!?! When I look up my account on the providers website, they are not billing for that much. When I have asked the leasing office about this they claim its an honest mistake. Seems fishy because they are probably doing this to every resident that lives here.I am having to break my lease due to my employer relocating me. I tried to find a subleaser to avoid paying the break lease fee (I understand the break lease fee is part of the lease). Initially the leasing office told me that it would be a $250 fee for someone to take over the lease, which seemed reasonable due to having to draft a new lease agreement. I found a subleaser who I wanted to add his name to the lease. He and I had a private agreement that he would pay the rent for the months he was subleasing. Gateway west then says it will cost him $250 to be added to the lease and another $250 to remove his name from the lease when he moves out. Keep in mind this is not drafting a new lease agreement. Its simply adding someone to the lease and then removing them several months later. They were also going to recharge him another $50 to have to submit another application (he had already paid $50 and had been approved for a prior application that was submitted a couple weeks prior). Then they tell him just lease from us, well give you a better rate. Keep in mind I was going to provide a furnished apartment to this individual for an upfront lump sum cost which gateway west was privy to.All in all, gateway west is a great place to live and I have enjoyed my time here. However, renter beware when dealing with the leasing office. Them nickeling and diming renters is an understatement. They are dishonest and overcharge people and I hope karma comes to bite them.
