Al Gray was fabulous!! He was very knowledgeable about the French Quarter and all of the Historical District…no doubt because he grew up in the area. He has a great sense of humor and gears his narrative to his guests interests. I highly recommend his excellent tours

By far, This is one of the best guided tours we have ever done. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable, friendly, courteous and great attention to detail. Even if it was hot and humid, our tour guide made the tour so pleasant. It was a real pleasure to learn so much about the history of Charleston. I highly recommend this company for your guided tours in the city, you wont be disappointed.

Great experience! Eric has a vast, detailed knowledge of the history of Charleston, in addition to which he provides relevant color and familiarity with the many unique attributes of this charming city. We visited buildings and parks, swung by churches, Gullas and graveyards, and were educated about the unique and intriguing aspects, thanks to Erics vast array of knowledge and research into each of these. A brilliant walking tour which we would recommend to everyone!

We were in Charlston just couple of days with my husband and our 23 year daughter and luckily had a guided tour with Old walled city tour . Our guide was Eric Lager. It was absolutely great tour, Eric was amazingly knowledgeable and nice, we all had a lot of fun . It was pretty hot and Eric always found places where we can stay or sit in the shade so we could enjoy his story without being hot and uncomfortable. 2.5 hours went like no time . We already recommended this tour to all our friends. Thanks, Erik and Old walled city tour! Hope to see you again!

This tour was worth EVERY MINUTE! We had Eric Lager as our guide to show us around the city and he was great!! He was so knowledgeable about the history of the city and we had a great time!! If you are considering booking elsewhere DONT! This is a local company run by two great guys that love showing their beautiful city to visitors. They only book small groups so that they get to make your experience memorable and answer any questions you may have. We will be coming back to take the rest of my family on this tour soon! I would highly recommend!!

Eric Lager was our guide on Tuesday for our walking tour of Charleston. He was so friendly and knowledgeable. I was having a hard time trying to remember all of the really interesting things he was telling us! He was able to answer our very random questions-including things related to the architecture of the homes in Charleston. The two hours went by so fast-we were sorry for the tour to end. We really enjoyed the tour and would highly recommend this very professional tour company to anyone interested in learning about the history of Charleston. Well worth the money!

One of the most informative and tours Ive ever taken guided by a PhD educated teacher that thoroughly loves what he does. This made for a wonderful afternoon and I feel like we got more than what we paid for. Even in the heat of the day, much of the tour was spent in the shade. Highly recommend.

A great tour with a knowledgeable and engaging guide. Als depth of knowledge was impressive. A question from someone about ironwork on a building would be answered with information about when it was made, who made it, if it was likely original to the building. He is a true local who has obviously knows history but can add personal recollections of how the city has changed in his lifetime. This is one of the best guided tours I have ever taken.I would add he has a strong voice and was easily heard in our group of 8.

A great tour of old Charleston. Our guide Eric (Ph.D. in history) was really knowledgeable about US American history especially of the south. He was able to set the events of the 18th and 19th century in the broader context of world history as well.He graciously instructed us in lots of detail about the early history of the city, pointed out significant information about the architecture of the period and had some great stories about the different characters who inhabited the city (and whose remains are still there in the interesting cemeteries and graveyards of Charleston!). I highly recommend this company and their tours.Byron & Jackie (Kingston ON)

Al was a wealth of information and a delight to hang out with for two hours. He absolutely knows his history of Charleston (born and raised there). We saw a lot of the city that we may not have had the chance to learn about dating back hundreds of years! Highly recommend Al - you won’t be disappointed!

We went on a tour of Historic Charleston with Al April 30, 2019. He was very informative and knowledgeable (a 7th generation Charleston native) and was a delight to be with. He took us off the beaten track to see sites we surely would have missed. We highly recommend Al.

I did a2-hour tour with Al two days ago and it was phenomenal. My wife and I were in town for a wedding and were on tight schedule so Al re-jiggered the tour just to help us out. And Al was as great a guy as youd expect based on the above. Whats more, his hospitality is matched by his knowledge of Charlestons history and culture. Als family has been in Charleston for a looong time and he was very welcoming as we visited his home town. It was great to learn about the town from someone who seems to really love it and has obviously spent years studying and mastering all aspects of its history. I highly recommend this tour.

My family and I have lived in South Carolina all my life and have taken many tours (historic and ghost) here in Charleston. I have now lived in Charleston for 5 years and my brother and I took my cousin on her first every ghost tour in Charleston last week when she was in town visiting from LA. We love scary stories, especially when theyre true and we loved the fact that Als stories were entertaining but also told about the rich history of Charleston. This ghost tour was one of the best Ive been on before. An hour and a half, walking around a fascinating city, hearing about its past as it relates to crime, hauntings, and the like--we recommend Al!

We did a 2-hour walking tour with Al Ray. He is unbelievably knowledgeable and can probably tell you something about any building in the historic part of Charleston (his family has been in Charleston for several generations). He will tailor the tour to your wishes and end it wherever you want/need to be at the end of the two hours. If you are OK with walking around for two hours, Id suggest doing this tour instead of a carriage ride, where you dont spend much time at all at individual locations (and the horse carriages dont go through the old cobblestone streets).Charleston has a lot of history to offer for a US town and Al is the best person to tell you about it.
