Our guide was very knowledgeable of the local history and current events in Charleston. Love when guides combine humor, intellect, and intrigue. Charleston is a gorgeous city to explore. Plenty of gorgeous architecture, hidden gardens, and notable characters to discover.

SC is hot so we were so happy to find a tour Ina bus with AC! We were able to see the while peninsula in the 80 min tour. Our guide knew a lot. We saw a lot of the historic homes, the water, and many modern evolutions of various parts of the city... dont walk in the heat yall, ride.A note- the address takes you to the Visitor Center, and no signs point you to where the tours leave... from the alley between buildings. Might want to add some directions on the site and a sign that shows from both directions from whence you can access the center.

Awesome!! Very knowledgeable driver / tour guide (Chris) who took us all through the historic district. We just got to town last night so a Saturday morning tour was the perfect way to be introduced to Charleston and discover what we would want to go back and see later. We were blown away by the number of churches and the various architecture used in them and the historic houses. Very happy we started our trip to Charleston this way! Definitely recommend!

It is really unfortunate that this is not an on and off tour. The bulk of the tour was spent on architecture & Charleston College? with little or no interesting historical information :(Maybe it was our guide who seemed apathetic & bored :( ?? We found It was over an hour of redundancy with a final stop at the waterfront for 10 minutes and the tour was over.Places of interest were hundreds of feet away or not really visible at all. If we did pull up to a place of interest & you were on the wrong side of the bus . . you might get a glimpse?? On my next visit I will be using the local free transit . .and a good Charleston sightseeing book lol :)

We completed a Grayline tour in Charleston on Dec 31st. Our tour leader Bonnie Cooper was excellent. Her knowledge of the city was incredible and we left the tour feeling like we had learned a lot about the city and it’s history. Bonnie also took additional questions while doing the tour. She defineftly made the trip for us! Great way to start our vacation in Charleston.

We did the Charleston city tour. Harry was our guide. He was extremely knowledgeable and had such a cute Charleston accent! It was very interesting. It was not an ideal day as it was raining during our tour Which impaired a clear view out of the windows at times because they were getting fogged up and had raindrops on them, but he gave us a roll of paper towels to pass around to wipe off the fog. All in all it was a fantastic tour!

Been on several tours in Charleston and in Savannah and this was a very unpleasant experience. Tour guide called out our small group for talking quietly amongst ourselves about the tour. We had to sit without talking the rest of the 1.5 hr tour while others talked. He also talked way too much about his personal life and was hard to understand.

A bus tour of a city should be a nice introduction to the main history and sights of the city. Well, the gray line tour was not that, not at all. Our tour guide was very bad - talking too fast, rambling and drawling so much that his words slurred together, making it hard to understand. And the topics were horrible: excessive detail about the plant and tree life of the city, and excessive detail about the different styles of houses in the old city. Now, I like architecture - but this was far too much pedantic detail for me. He didnt take us to any of the important buildings or churches in the city - only trees and houses. We didnt get a historical introduction to the city, or any interesting historical tidbits connected to the places we were visiting. And the bus was far too hot, and the driver wouldnt turn on the AC. It was the worst tour I have even been on: trapped on a hot bus with boring and incomprehensible rambling for 90 minutes, just wishing I could be somewhere else.

Upon arriving at Boone Plantation we waited 20 minutes while the van driver and the gate person sorted out the admission (which we prepaid). Once admitted, without consulting with his passengers, the van driver (he drove with little narration) got a group ticket for us to tour the mansion. We were directed to go wait for 20 minutes until our time arrived. When the appointed time arrived 1/2 of the group very reasonably announced, as they were German speakers, they wanted to wait for the tour in German. Since we only had one ticket we had to talk the tour guide into dividing the group. The time allotted at the Boone Plantation was insufficient to take in the whole grounds and displays. It was most disappointing to have to choose what to see or do. I don’t know of why the time was so limited.

**** LOVELY PEOPLE!!**** We visited the Children’s museum with our 2 year old, and noticed sounds of a kitten crying coming from our car! We had just gotten there from Summerville (30 minutes away-all highway) the super sweet employees of the bus line and the tour company came out to help us and wouldnt give up!! An hour later, George from Charleston Truck Service (he was called by Bonnie, who works at the Grey Line bus company) saved the little kitty!! We are so thankful for every one of the people who stood with us and offered suggestions or helped. You all are angels!!

I sent an email 4 days ago now and haven’t heard anything back. On Saturday we went on the Kennedy space tour and it was a nightmare. The bus was over half an hour late and then when it arrived we were pulling out of the car park and the bus went onto the wrong side of the road and hit a pole. The driver said he was distracted. We then had to wait ages before we left. When we were on our way they announced that we would be staying back late and getting back late. We had a booking at 7:30pm and we told him we needed to be back and that is why we got the express ticket and he could not of cared less and said it was not possible to get back at the time we were supposed to. If he had told us before we were on our way we would have got off. We then asked about the astronaut that would be greeting us and he said no that we have missed that because we were late. I explained that the tour states that it’s included and that’s not fair and he said no it’s an add on which is false because the tour says that it happens on Saturday which is why we booked that day. We got there just before 11am and he told us he was going to walk us through and show us where to go. We were at the back of the bus on the top level and by the time our section got off the bus he had already left with half of the group and we had no idea where we were going. Overall the whole trip was a joke.

Pedestrians have the right away when crossing with the lights in crosswalks downtown. Your bus drivers need to learn how to be courteous and obey traffic laws. Also, it is bad enough the traffic congestion your company causes for other motorists. If tourists want to see Charleston, I suggest a health conscious walking tour.- A Charleston pedestrian.

Six of us did the Charleston City Tour this morning. The bus was stuffy and hot. We had to ask twice to have air turned on. Tour was advertised to be 90 minutes. Ours started ten minutes late and ended ten minutes early so we had only 70 minutes. Guide’s narration was canned—no interesting tidbits of knowledge. Disappointing tour.

We purchased the city tour with a tour of the Joseph Manigault house. The bus tour was just average, but wasn’t worth complaining about. Once we completed the bus tour, we were directed to talk to Joann to get our house tickets, who was just sitting on another buses’ steps. As I approached her, she told me she already gave me my tickets for the house tour. I told her she was mistaken. She then continued by saying “you had three tickets and I gave the man you were with the fourth”. I again told her she was mistaken, possibly thinking of someone else. Then, she takes four tickets, sucks her teeth at me in frustration and SHOVES THE TICKETS IN MY HANDS! Now, I wasn’t upset, hostile or even remotely rude to her. There was no reason for her to become physically aggressive with me. At that time, I decided I wanted a refund for the house considering she just created a really negative scenario for me and my party. She told me I needed to call the office. I handed her back her tickets and called the office immediately. I was transferred to the manager Jen’s line. She has yet to call me back or issue me my refund. I am appalled that this is the type of business Gray Line is running. I will never do another Gray Line tour again.

Awful. Showed preferential loading to a group that filled the bus except for two seats in the rear. We had to ask if this, in fact, was our bus. When questioned, the driver said he was in the restroom which wasnt true as I watched the woman approach him, get his permission to load, and then he left. Never announced that this was our bus. Driver told me to complain......so I am.Arrogant and uncaring. Use another company.

Terrible customer service from Megan in the Charleston office. I had booked the Charleston Harbor Tour online and paid online through TripAdvisor . A few hours later I got a call from the Gray line saying I they had to cancel my reservation because a large group rented the boat before. A little frustrating but understandable. They told me to call TripAdvisor to get a refund. TripAdvisor says I need gray line to tell them the trip was canceled, called gray line back and was told sorry they won’t do that. That was upsetting. Now I am out 100$ on that trip. I will not be recommending dealing with their service again. I hope the boat ride was nice but I wouldn’t know...

As a hostess I was embarrassed. I booked the Historic City Tour and Live Narrated Harbor Cruise (approximately $160) for my husband and myself and an out of town couple for their first visit to Charleston. It was not that there was a bad experience with a rude employee or anything that was difficult to navigate, just that it was not at all what I expected based on how the tour was advertised. I learned more from the website description of the sites of interest that would be included than I did on the tour! I intentionally booked a driving/sailing tour because my older guests have limited mobility/stamina. The description of the tours looked like a perfect way to show off our beautiful city in air conditioned comfort. It wasnt. The driver for the city tour drove entirely too fast to find, let alone appreciate anything he pointed out. The roof of the bus made it impossible to see the full height of the homes and buildings we were supposed to be seeing so when the guide was talking about architecture and roofs and tall trees we were so close to them there was no way to even see what he was talking about. It didnt help that he was bored to death with the presentation himself and he repeated himself frequently. The spiel was so canned that the driver was pointing out spring blooms in October. (So...what am I looking at, a green bush that looks like the last green bush he pointed out?) There wasnt any real knowledge imparted, just some canned dates and a little trivia but not much information. It was more of an advertisement for a walking tour if you wanted to really see anything or for an additional fee if you wanted any real information of the historic houses. Walking tours werent an option for my guests and after the bust with the driving tour I wasnt willing to risk more money for additional disappointment with this company. The harbor tour narration was almost identical to the driving tour. I even heard a man at a table behind us on the boat (who was apparently on a different bus than we were for the driving tour) say that the narration was exactly what hed just heard on the driving tour. We didnt get close enough to any of the points of interest the narrator was identifying so basically all we did was make a loop around the middle of the harbor with the items of interest at a huge distance, some on the horizon. Annoyingly, when we got close to the Yorktown, the impressive carrier was on the starboard but the narrator was talking about items on the port side! Then, when he did talk about the Yorktown he basically said theres a destroyer behind the ship but you cant really see it now because we were already past it. When I have guests in the future I will have to find another way to show them our lovely city with its rich, colorful history, Gray Line failed terribly. Wasted time and money.
