Tommy is extremely knowledgeable about Charleston and its vast history. He also provides information on Charlestons involvement in the American Revolution which is never really discussed in history classes. Excellent tour guide. Highly recommend.

Tommy is an EXCEPTIONAL knowledgeable tour guide. Loved that he gave facts about history including some that were left out of textbooks. His knowledge of Charleston, American and European history was phenomenal! The 2 hour tour was much too short!! Keep up the good work, Tommy!

Excellent History tour of Charleston, by a friendly, knowledgeable, funny, charming Southerner. I loved hearing his perspective. The cost of the 1.75 hour tour is $25 per person and well worth the cost. The walk is about one mile and not strenuous, with many stops in the shade, and one bathroom break. I think the tour is best for adults or teens who are interested in history. It is not an overview of the sites of Charleston, but rather an overview of the history of the city, including how slavery was a part of that history.

This was an incredible tour. I’ve never experienced a tour like it in the states or overseas. It made me want to go home and read even more about Charleston and it’s history. There is literally nothing he couldn’t talk about. Everyone visiting Charleston should do this tour at the beginning of their trip to get an idea of where they want to go from there.

I have been on multiple history tours of Charleston and Tommy was BY FAR the best guide I have had. I was blown away by his backhand knowledge of every brick that has been laid in the city. I would highly recommend him to any local or tourist visiting the city. Thank you Tommy!

This morning I was fortunate to go on a walking tour with Tommy Dew. It was incredibly informative and entertaining. Living and working in Charleston for the past decade, I’ve rarely had the chance to stop, look around and observe all of this city’s rich history. And, today was my opportunity to hear it and feel it, in an inspiring fashion. The tour was so rich in historical detail and drama, it was incredibly memorable. Tommy is a wonderful storyteller. I highly recommend going on a Tommy Dew walking tour!

What a wonderful look in Charlestons storied past. Tommy was an excellent guide to the architecture, stories and culture of Charleston, both past and present. One can tell that he truly lives and loves this town! He was so helpful and interesting and we loved that he knew so many locals and would call out good morning Miss so and so and tell us a little about that particular local character. It is also obvious that the locals know, admire and love him! I would recommend this tour to anyone!

Have waited way too long to write this but here it goes...when visiting Charleston for a few days I HIGHLY recommend taking this relaxing, super-educational tour! What a pleasure it was to be walked around town with Tony. A great guy, very friendly and super knowledgeable about the area!! He shared both historical and social information that made a profound impact on my wife and I - we were on our 15th anniversary trip. I will never look at Charleston the same. I had no idea the historical and social significance of it. Truly eye opening! If we ever get back Ill definitely take the tour with Tommy! Super great guy!

I agree with the tone of Wayne G’s review and wanted to ask “in his opinion, how much better would the City of Charleston be today if slavery was still in effect?” We also spent a lot of time learning about his church which could have been condensed and more info provided on other historical topics. Obviously a student of history and knowledgeable about Charleston, a lot of interesting points of interest provided.

A local recommended Tommys tour and I am so glad we participated. Tommy gave us a fascinating tour of sites and historical background. We saw historic homes and churches and theaters and he told wonderful stories to make the history come alive. He was very considerate about trying to keep the group in the shade on a sultry day. Our group loved the tour and I would highly recommend it to anyone visiting Charleston!

I bring a group into town every year and do a tour of Charleston with them every time. We hired Tommy to do our tour this year, and everyone couldnt stop raving about how much information he had in his head. We were all amazed. Im hoping to have Tommy lead our tours every year from here on out!

I loved this tour and feel like I learned a lot. Tommy did a great job of explaining the perspective of Southerners before, during, and after the civil war. It gave me a new and more robust understanding of that time period in history as opposed to my previous view that came only from high school lessons. Tommy was kind, friendly, and personable. The tour was fantastic and I would recommend it to anyone.

Tommy did a fantastic job explaining the Why to the history of Charleston. Why are certain houses built the way they are. Why certain ethic groups had influence on the town. And on and on. I would recommend his tour to anyone who wants to get an often Witty, honest and fact filled account of this wonderful town.

On October 20, 2018 I participated in Mr. Dew’s 2-hour walking tour of Charleston, S.C. I am a well-seasoned traveler and have been on many tours. I believe that everyone is entitled to be passionate about their opinions. I do not believe that when I am paying to be given a tour of a town that I should be lectured on how the Civil War was a criminal atrocity to the South which they will never forget, that history is wrong, that the North now only thinks and acts with malice towards the South, that slavery was economically correct for the South and many other wrongdoings of the Union then, and the Federal government and the North now. I always welcome civil discourse on differing opinions but this was a one-sided angry dissertation with questionable facts. When I relate with other people I treat them all the same regardless of race, religion, sex and place of origin and I expect them to do the same. I would recommend that unless you want a lecture on one man’s opinion of the Civil War and the North’s atrocities, then and now, stay away from this tour.

Tommys tour was beyond incredible.. His knowledge was extensive and his energy and story telling ability was phenomenal. I learned such a vast amount on Charleston, the southern culture, architecture, immigration patterns, agriculture, religious evolution from Europe to the US and so much more. I would say I learned more then any history class I ever sat through in high school or college in this tour. More importantly, the way the information was delivered did not feel like normal tours, it was so fluid and story like, it was easy to retain and associate with where you were during the tour. I wouldnt suggest a tour with Tommy, I think it is a MUST do if youre there and one of the best spent 2 hours I have ever had on a trip.
