We recently took my husbands car in to be looked at. The Johns team tried a few different things and they did not remedy the problem. It was determined that my husbands car had transmission damage and we would need a new car. They did not charge us for the parts they ordered that did not work, nor did they charge us for the labor. Only the inspection fee was charged. Their act of kindness meant so much to us and helped us be able to get a better new car. They have always had great customer service and my whole family trusts them with their cars as well.

I cant say enough about these guys, they are just awesome. Ive been bringing my cars here for many years, even for the most minor issues, and they always provide exceptional service and customer service. They are always honest and truly care about their customers and the customer experience. They provide great peace of mind for any worry about my car Ive ever had. I wont be taking my car anywhere else anytime soon.

My truck’s AC had catastrophic failure and wouldn’t start. They were quick to come tow it away and had diagnosed the following hour. I thought the bill was more than fair! Tools had been left in my truck and despite having no obligation or responsibility to do so they opted to keep it indoors. (I hadn’t thought of or mentioned that to anyone) and it just shows such a high level of professionalism and respect especially being a first time customer. These guys are awesome.

Bob and Al are great! I got a little too ambitious one weekend and thought I could replace my front suspension myself...long story short ended up towing my truck to Johns after being referred by a friend. I called them first thing Monday morning, explained my story and Bob told me they were booked all day but would try to fit me in. I got a cool text at 11 AM with a link to my trucks 35 point inspection that include pictures of my fluids compared to clean, air filter, and parts I knew needed to be repaired... My biggest fear was some mechanic telling me I needed multiple things fixed that I knew didnt so huge relief.I then gave them a call during lunch and spoke to Al, the price he quoted was a little higher than expected but after discussing with Al I decided to go through and have them fix my truck... I was sold by Als knowledge, transparency and pride he takes on his shops work. Al told me he would have my truck done before the end of the day Tuesday. I honestly thought I wouldnt get my truck back until Wednesday at the very earliest and probably would have if I went elsewhere.Tuesday, I called Al just before noon expecting him to tell it would be ready at... Al said my truck was all ready for me to pick up! WOW! I had a friend drop me off and ended up shooting the sh*t with Al for 20 minutes just talking about bad experiences with mechanics and cars.If you want great, quick and reliable work done go to Johns, you wont regret it! Theyll tell you upfront they arent the cheapest shop in town but they use quality parts, stand by their work and take pride in their shop.Ive been living in Cedar Rapids for three years now and was still trying to find a reliable mechanic... I think Ive found them!Thank s again guys, I couldnt be happier!

Ive left a review here before that was also 5 stars, but Im feeling compelled to leave another one because I went to the shop today thinking that I had an appointment to have a tire leak looked at and when I got there I found out that I had read the confirmation email wrong. My appointment was earlier in the week... Despite that they asked if they could hold on to it for a bit and see if they could get it in, I was going to hang out for a bit anyway so agreed. Not only were they able to fit me in without an appointment, but it only took ~45 minutes from the time of arriving to when they called to say the car was done! Just enough time to go next door and have breakfast. Awesome customer service, awesome car service.

Amazing service from my first phone call to when I picked up my car after it being fixed. The prices are great and you know you are getting top notch service. They were able to tell me what needed to be fixed right away and showed me the damage. They really work with you to make sure your experience is GREAT!

They do great work! Not alway the cheapest but always reliable and knowledgeable. My only complaint is...its hard to get your vehicle serviced without being 2 weeks out. That shows how much people respect their work.

Regretfully I cant give more stars. First the good: They got the car in quite soon ( it was nearly undrivable ) and repaired it promptly and it appears they fully fixed the problem. ( Not cheap ! )The not so good. A couple of parts were replaced Im quite confident didnt need to be. Initially a refund was promised ( small amount ). However the charge to my credit card never changed. Upon questioning it was suddenly a credit to my account to be applied to an oil change or . . . or claims that a check could be issued.I finally decided to give them the benefit of the doubt and dropped the claim. ( I was met with a wall of talk and spin to explain my issue away. Over the `whole episode I heard some statements that were simply preposterous ! ).Id cautiously use them again but if the need wasnt urgent Id shop around some first -- and do more research re the problem.

I am thrilled with the service at Johns Automotive. The staff is trustworthy and knowledgeable. They take the time to not only explain but at times show me what was wrong and answer my many questions. They kept my 23 year old Toyota in excellent shape. For nearly 18 years, Johns Automotive has provided my family with superior automotive service and repair. They have often gone beyond expectation to make sure that my vehicles are safe and in good working order. Ive presented challenges to them with some older vehicles, that parts and technologies were hard to find, and never really came right out and told me best to let it go, and instead, gave them a rebirth. Kudos to Bob, Al, and the staff of technicians for their excellent service!

I can only give Johns Automotive five stars for their service. Theyre knowledgeable, they are patient in explaining what and why I need work on my vehicle. They dont look at me or talk to me like Im just a female, and not worth their time. They are people friendly, which is also important to me.Last fall they even went above and beyond the call of duty. After they had finished working on my truck, I rode my recumbent trike to their shop to pickup the truck. I had just bought the transport rack and was still learning how to load the trike. They volunteered to help me get the trike loaded. As a matter of fact, one of the mechanics even helped adjust the rack to fit the trike better. Some places would just say ... To bad: its your problem. Not the personnel at Johns ... They wanted to make sure both I and my trike were safe.My father has been gone for years and my brothers and son do not live close. I do enjoy the rewards of being a car club member at Johns Automotive! I actually left Johns Auto and I didnt have to get my card out to pay the bill. It was all covered by my Car Club membership. It pays to be loyal customer at Johns Automotive. I have received excellent care car!

Prices just arent competitive. After 15 years and many used cars I realized other places do just a good a job at almost half the cost.John’s Automotive does solid work but on regular basic car maintenance their prices are out of touch with the market. They claim they dont cut corners and wont bait and switch you. That is what a normal business should do anyway it shouldnt be a justification for exorbitantly high prices. They claimed they only used the best parts. I believe thats probably true. I cant verify what other shops use but as a long as they guarantee their work what difference does it make? Other businesses in CR wouldnt be operating for 20+ years if they worked customers that way.Recently they lead me to believe a brake job on my car would be quite the ordeal. When they finished and said it turned out to be simple they still stuck me with a bill almost twice as high as every other place in town I called. Those parts they put in must be indestructible. As someone that has used their shop many times throughout the past 15 years I will most likely not be returning.Response to owner: Dont insult me by calling me cheap. I never said anything about wanting cheap service Im talking about a reasonable price. Ive spent a small fortune there over the years . I guess I trusted your service manager when he said it needed a lot of work in that area (the brakes). As in it would take an extra amount of labor and time to get the job done which to me justified a higher price tag. Instead you told me it was a simple job and nothing out of the ordinary when it was finished.

Johns did a very nice job fixing my car. Other guys told me they could not align my wheels, but when I took it to Johns they said they could no problem. These guys know what they are doing and were reasonable with their charges.I will be going back to get my spark plugs replaced when I need it.

Headed to John’s automotive for the first Time to get an oil change. The mechanic came out to get me and informed me my sway-bar link was broken. That meant nothing to me so I really appreciated it when he offered to show me and explain the pros and cons of getting it fixed now versus later. It was nice to not feel pressured to do anything without first being informed of my options. Overall I felt like I was in good hands.

Even though they were very busy, they got me in quick and they were able to take a look at the problem. I treated very fairly and with friendly service. Great place to go.thank you.

We have been coming to John’s Automotive for a long time. No matter what car we have had they always take the time to tell us what needs to be done. Always prompt service and everyone there has been helpful. We will keep bringing our cars there.

We were several hours into a road trip with our four young kids, with several more hours to go, when we started hearing an awful noise while braking and when we started moving again. We spent the night in Cedar Rapids and then started calling places early in the morning to see if there was any way we could get the problem fixed and get back on the road. John’s automotive told us to come over as soon as we were ready and that they would squeeze us in to see what was wrong with the van. Al even gave us directions on how to get there because there was a bunch of road construction going on around them. It turned out that the people who had recently replaced our brakes didn’t properly tighten the bolts and we lost one of them somewhere along the way. The staff at John’s Automotive went out of their way to get the special order part from a local dealership that was across town; after seeing if they happened to have the part at the hardware stores close by in an effort to get us back on the road sooner. The technician also showed us exactly what happened, why we were hearing the awful grinding noise, and even double checked all of the other tires to make sure everything was properly tightened. Al went out of his way to give us suggestions on things to do with our kids (close restaurants, pet shop, park, etc.) and turned the tv in the waiting area to a kids channel while we got an update on our vehicle. I would 1,000% recommend this place! I can’t thank them enough for everything they did for us.

I am out of state but I hired this shop to do an inspection of a very track capable sports car at a nearby dealership I was considering to purchase.They found nothing conclusive that was majorly wrong with the vehicle, but the issues with paint that would indicate repainted front bumper cover, minor mechanical faults and the GMVIS (GM Vehicle Inquiry Services) report made me suspect there might be undeclared damage in the front due to heavy road course (track) use. There were also issues with the alignment, which can be due to slight frame damage or just natural wander over vehicle use. I did not need to purchase right now, and so can afford to wait. Before purchasing a vehicle I need to be absolutely sure of the history of the vehicle I am getting.I dealt with Al and Andy, and they both spent a long time going over any questions and the step by step of what they found and did not find.I would use them again if I needed inspection services or if I was local to the area.

Ive been going to Johns Automotive Service for about 5 years and have always been treated with respect. Bob, Al and the team do what repairs are required and do not try to up-sell you on things that are not needed. I do a lot of my own repair work, but I take it to Johns when I need added expertise, special tools or just dont want to do it.

Very fair pricing and great service! I had the front brakes replaced on my 2012 Toyota RAV4 and Injector on our 2016 BuickEnclave. Both were done in a timely manner and for the price quoted. They are very customer focused and I would definitely recommend this shop for all your repair needs.

This place is a scam. Took my truck in to get the water pump replaced. I had already removed EVERYTHING besides one stripped bolt. They had the truck 3 days just to tell me I broke off multiple bolts off in my block and it was going to cost over $2000 to fix. I know for a FACT NOT ONE BOLT BROKE. Told me had to drop whole engine out etc. BULLSHIT. Every time Ive taken something here they charge more and something else ends up needing fixed. DONT BRING YOUR CAR HERE.

I took my car to multiple repair shops to try to fix an issue that would happen every fall/winter. After 2 years and 8 times taking in my car I finally tried Johns. They found the issue in minutes and had it fixed within the hour. They were professional and easy to talk to. I will ALWAYS take my car here!

Never fixed original reason for taking truck here, brakes... 2 appointments and $2600 later including 1 part they noticed could be bad thru computer but no mention of that or fixed prior to it breaking on me on the interstate. Talked down to rudely by owner. Always a week out to get my truck in yet others theyll tell same day service.

I manage a Collision shop in town and these guys are the only ones I trust to do any of my suspension work. Ive gone cheaper places before and the car ended up back at my shop with a problem. I consistently hang the reputation of my shop on their work and they have never disappointed.

Went to tuffys and they charged me almost 7,000 for a new head gasket, I came to johns and first of all, if it had been my gasket they were going to charge me between 3000-4000 approximately. Thats way cheaper than tuffys! Secondly, that wasnt the problem at all it was my lifters! Which cost me 2200! Thanks johns for your honesty! Nobody wants to spend money they dont have to.

We have had several serious issues with our very old Chrysler minivan and both times Johns Automotive has exceeded our expectations. Most recently I had to drop it off unexpectedly due to a blinking engine light and they still had it evaluated and fixed within a few hours...I didnt even have an appointment! Great follow up from the owner as well.

Instead there are threats of imprisonment and fines if the mail is tampered with. Imagine the disappointment when I found this to be just a coupon for services at Johns Auto Service. Deceptive, desperate and tacky.

I had an awful experience at Johns Automotive. I had a check engine light come on and the engine started vibrating in an unusual way. The one thing positive I can say is that they said they could look at it that same day, but the rudeness, and overcharge I received for a inaccurate diagnostic is inexcusable.When I was called and told initially that 2 of my 4 cylinders had misfires so I would need to replace 2 coils and 2 spark plugs, I was shocked at the $594 total, but figured I had no choice, and consented. Within 5 minutes I called back and left a voicemail, then showed up in person right after to tell them to hold off because I decided I would buy the parts and do it myself. Bob, was very rude to me, acting as though they were doing me a favor by diagnosing the problem and I should pay them to fix it, even though, at that point, they hadnt yet done anything besides the diagnostic and then went on lunch. I politely said I would pay the diagnostic, but would do it myself. He angrily said he would leave a note on my account so I would be refused service if I called again.When I picked up my car after their lunch, I was again surprised by a $120 diagnostic charge, but quietly paid without raising a complaint. I immediately went to Autozone and requested an OBD2 check engine light diagnostic, which Autozone didnt charge for, and they found 3 cylinder misfires, not 2. I bought 4 coils and 4 spark plugs for $215 (Johns said 2 of each was $317 for parts) and when I removed the old coils and plugs found that this other coil and plug, in the number 2 slot, (the one Johns missed on their $120 diagnostic) was in the worst shape.If I hadnt decided to do the work myself, I wouldve spent a lot more money, especially because after Johns fixed just 2 coils and plugs, the 3rd wouldve turned the check engine light back on, then they wouldve wanted to charge another overpriced diagnostic and repair service.To be rude to a paying customer when I politely refused the additional service quoted, and then overcharge for an inaccurate diagnosis, is bad business. If I thought they would care, I would ask for a refund. Finally, I have pictures of the diagnostic printout and receipt to verify I was a customer.Dont let this happen to you.
