Do not hesitate to use this company. See my experience belowProcessor shortage left me with a new motherboard I bought last year and a new processor I just got. After assembling the new system it would not boot because the motherboard needed a bios update, which you cannot do without a processor old enough to boot with the old bios.I called twelve local shops I found with a Google Search. Two were out of business, one so long the telephone number had been given to a new business. Two used push this button for x and for y which of course all went to the same person. One was answereed by his mother. Two wanted a lot of money to do this and three said no.That leaves Intrex Computers in Cary, now my favorite company of all time. The person who answered could talk technical, which was reassuring from the git go and he was not one of their techs. Took it in, day and a half later it is back and on which I am typing this review. They did more than just update the bios. They also updated several default bios settings to meet my hardwareThe price was so good I do not want to give it as every job like that is different, so I do not want to put them in a bind. Just so you know, I left a tip to the tech who did the work.

When I need a computer repair I take it here. Its always taken several days to get it back because they stay busy servicing repairs. But I think its worth it because I feel they give me a fair price. They are taking covid precautions so currently its not a place to really walk in and browse. Much of the store is sectioned off. But the staff is knowledgeable and they were able to talk me through my options from the counter. They dont have a large selection of brands on hand but if you have some patience and want honest solid service I think this is a great place to go.

This is my go-to computer shop in Cary. Ive had two computers built, and one of them extensively rebuilt. Their service and support is excellent. Good service and knowledgeable staff, but be aware they have a restocking fee for returned items. Recently I returned an unused item in the original, unopened packaging and had to pay the fee. I specifically told them when I bought it that I was purchasing two different sizes with the intent of returning the one that didnt work. They told me to return it within two weeks but didnt mention the restock fee. That would have been important information. Later, when I returned I saw that this was posted when they pointed it out, but as I said, would have been great if they had also told me since I specifically mentioned I would be returning something.

I own a small business to business computer services company in the Triangle area and I have been shopping at Intrex for years. The staff at the Cary location are very knowledgeable and friendly. As a computer technician myself, I have never needed them to service any of my computers, however they are always available to offer advice and recommendations on one part over another. Im kind of surprised by some of the reviews below. I would offer this to anyone considering this store for repair: If they have a 2 day wait to look at your computer, they must be doing something right. I will definitely keep coming back to this store.

I took my daughters laptop in for service. It needed a new keyboard. It was around the holidays so I thought it would take longer to get part in and get it fixed. They were able to get it done in less time than expected and the part was less money than quoted.. The funny thing is I first went to best buy and the geek squad guy recommended Intrex for a faster and cheaper service. Thanks Geek Squad. I would recommend Intrex to all for service.

Great service - knowledgeable staff - good pricing and inventory. What more could one ask for? They dont try to oversell the customer either - I recently purchased a 27 4K monitor - and while my motherboard supported the resolution in theory, in practice it was choking. I dropped by Intrex of course and was educated about 4K requirements and sold a video card that supports not only my 4K display, but also a second 24 display simultaneously. I would have bought a more expensive card, thinking more is better, but as I am not a gamer the solution offered by Intrex was perfect for my needs - and saved me many $$$. Thanks Intrex - you are always there when I need you!

Buyer Beware! Keys kept falling off right from the start, but unfortunately it was just after the short 30 day return period. The store owner would not work with us, so we were out of luck and had to keep reattaching keys with glue which was a difficult procedure and isnt ideal for performance. Then the dreaded blue screen made its appearance within the first year, and the laptop became a useless, very expensive paperweight. We have a suspicion that this laptop may have been a repackaged return, and wish we had listened to our gut feeling/spidey sense and not purchased from this store. Word of mouth about reputation has spread throughout the local school system and the big three universities in the Triangle, among the students, teachers, and tech departments.

Intrex used to be the place to go when you needed parts to repair electronics. I dont know what they do or sell now, but it is apparently no longer parts. I went in with a connector that was damaged and needed replacing. The guy didnt know what I was talking about. Argued with me when I told him the name of the connector. Stared at me as if I was insane and said that it looked like something that goes inside a computer. (duh, yeah)When I told him I was trying to find it today and asked if he had any advice for where else to look locally he suggested the internet. When I repeated that I was trying to find it today and asked if he had any idea where to go next he said We dont have it.I can accept that they dont have the part, and even that they dont know where to get it, but he treated me like an idiot, and had no helpful advice at all.

As a 15+ year customer I am grateful our community has Intrex as a knowledgeable and well stocked hometown parts and equipment supplier -- lots of choices in inventory usually and always helpful and accurate with advice. Have bought a lot of equipment from them over the years both for building new systems and for upgrades and routine parts change-outs and maintenance, and have never had a problem in any way. Have not used Intrex for repair so can not comment on that part of their business. I prefer them to mail order when possible and always choose them over the big yellow box place.

Pro: On the bright side, my computer had a faulty motherboard, which was fixed by my purchasing a new one there and having them install it for me while I waited.Con: The person helping me out was okay, if unenthusiastic. He was quite passive, and wanted to book my computer in (which would take a few days). I had to suggest buying a new motherboard to get things done. I can understand though; its nearing Christmas, and nobody really wants to work right now. But I had a pretty big problem with the (person who seemed to be the) manager. When the service representative was helping me with my computer, he mistakenly quoted me $20 instead of $60 (because swapping motherboards is a more involved process). A good manager wouldve apologized to me for the error, and negotiated a price in between, or let it slide because it was their fault, asking me to come again. Instead, he berated the service representative in front of me, and then walked off, all the while completely ignoring that I was there. Had I known it wouldve cost that much more, I could have installed the motherboard myself after theyd checked that it worked correctly. The motherboard itself also cost about $40 more there than it would have had I bought it online, though I was in a hurry and was okay with paying the premium. If the manager seemed to treat everyone badly, I might write it off as his being a jerk, but he wasnt. He seemed happy serving another customer, but completely ignored me. He wouldnt greet me, didnt welcome me in, and seemed to view my presence as a nuisance. I dont know what to make of it; its the first time in this city that Ive felt that someone might be racist. I wouldnt want to go there again unless I had no choice.

Following a recent move to Cary, my computer would not turn on. As I use my computer for work, a quick fix was needed. I called around to several computer repair shops in the Cary area with each telling me it would be a week or more before they could even take a look at it, much less repair it. A call to Intrex and they said bring it in and they would look at it the next business day. When I took the computer in to leave it, the technician looked at it right away and determined the problem. I was out the door with a working computer 20 minutes later for an extremely reasonable charge. Highly recommend Intrex Computer.

Dont believe the other reviews who claim this place likes to rip people off, I have never found that to be the case. Intrex in Cary has been our go to store for several things. Also, their prices are extremely reasonable! especially when it comes to cables and adapters. Best Buy wanted 3x as much for HDMI cables as Intrex charged us. The employees in this Cary location are never pushy, they also do not claim to know everything, I find them to be very honest and extremely helpful. There were a few times I have been in when I could not find what I was looking for, usually something out of the ordinary, yet the employees were still appreciative that we stopped in and asked for their help.I am glad Intrex is close by.

Bottom line:-Pricing on some items are not competitive and if you go there to shop be sure to check prices against other local stores.-Great place to find cables and connectors you might have trouble locating locally anywhere else.I shop at this location on occasion because typically I dont like waiting on parts to ship and I like to support the local economy. Often prices on parts are not competitive with other local stores such as Best Buy, and certainly not competitive with standard online retailers. Some examples: a SSD hard drive that costs, say $200 in store will be no more than $150 anywhere else you look. Or a thumb drive priced at $15 will be under $10 down the street.Im not sure how there prices compare to MSRP, or if its like this for every item, but it has been a trend each time I remember going in to this location.

I took my computer to Intrex to get repaired because the light that normally determines if there was power going into the computer was no longer on when the computer was plugged in. I asked the tech if the problem could be caused by a short in the plug or a cracked motherboard. He seemed to agree with what I said. Before the light problem, the hard drive was working fine with no signs of any problems. A week later, I had not received a call form Intrex, and they still had my computer. When I arrived at Intrex, to check on the computer, I was told by the tech that it could not be fixed but the information from the hard drive could be loaded to another computer. I asked if the hard drive could be installed into a new computer of the same brand in order to save my programs; I was told that it could be done. Days later, still without a call from Intrex, I decided to go there to get an update when I was told that my hard drive had crashed and all the data, including my sensitive information, was lost. I had backup on some of it but with no warning on the power loss issue, I had no way to update my backup before I delivered my computer to Intrex. So, I asked the technician if he was responsible for the hard drive crashing, and he said, No, I really respect what you do for a living, I can learn a lot from you, I am only twenty-one years old. After our conversation, I asked the manager if he could look at the computer and tell me if the technician was responsible for the damaged hard drive or if there was another reason for the crash. Today, many days later, without a call from them, I went there and was told by a representative at Intrex that they dont have the capability to go to that level where it could be discovered why the hard drive crashed. In the end It cost me fifty dollars to get my computer back, and it was in a bag in pieces. I will take the computer somewhere else to get a diagnosis on the power problem and the hard drive crash. I am a professional investigator, and I dont make judgement on issues out of my field. However, in this case, I will pass judgement on the service in general: I was not kept up to date on what was happening with my computer, or that there was a hard drive crash, or even when it happened. In my opinion, too many days passed without informing me about the computer. Three years later I check to see if I should delete my comments for time served but on 02 25 2020 I can see by the negative reviews things are not better so my review will remain.

This review is specific to Maynard Crossing, Cary.Awesome store! These places are not easy to find when you need certain computer / electronic components quick and don’t want to wait on Newegg or Amazon.I had a high end computer built, MSI Z370-A Pro i7-8700k / 16GB DDR4 (2666) / 850 Fully Modular PSU, Corsair Hydro H100i v2 Water Cooling. All the associates I spoke with were very knowledgeable and friendly! I’m incredibly impressed with this place. The rep that assisted me answered all my questions and carried each component I wanted to the counter as I was making decisions for my new build. It was a day turnaround! This probably doesn’t happen much, but I was very pleased. They spot check their work and run stress tests. I impulse bought this system and told them I’d install the HDD’s and my GTX 1080 Ti myself. They packaged it very nicely as I wanted all the boxes and even opened the PC when I got there. They even ran two HDD SATA/PW connectors up front for me so my installation was even easier. They also already had 2 8 Pin connectors ready for my GPU!Great experience, awesome store (like a mini Comp USA)! They do research on their products which is why I recommend their systems over pre-builts from Best Buy. Those systems cheat you on PSU & mobo’s.FYI - My 3DMark scores are in the mid to high 90 percentile overall. This things a beast!

Lost a customer over 4 dollars. I am a local and walked in for a serial to usb cable. 16.99 on the shelf. A quick scan shows it is 9.99 with free same day on amazon if you order > 35 dollars, or, in my case 9.99 + 3.99 overnight shipping. I like to support local business, but, I dont want to pay nearly 2x what you can get shipped to your door. If Amazon with their 100,000+ sq/ft facilities all around the country and tens of thousand of employees can make a profit at 9.99 so can Intrex. I requested the price be adjusted to 12.99. That is still 3 dollars more and I think a fair deal to support local business. Nope. Was told they cant adjust the price. Oh well. Lost a customer and got a bad review over 4 dollars. Google FOA (fear of amazon). I already saw you guys downgraded the size of your store. Next step, out of business for price gouging.

Due to a nearby lightning strike my computer would not power on. I replaced the power supply and still nothing. I decided to take the computer to Intrex Computers (Cary, NC) for diagnostics. A week later I was called and informed that the motherboard was the problem. I asked the tech on the phone what type motherboard they would use to replace the defective one. I was told that it would be replaced with the same motherboard that was in the computer. I had built this computer and I knew it had an ASUS H87-PRO board. I ,also, had previously looked online for this motherboard and could not find one available. I was a little surprised when told they could replace the damaged board with the H87-PRO and I questioned the tech about where he could source it. The tech informed me that they had their own supplier. I thus went to the store to order and pay for the board. When I got there, I again expressed my surprise at them being able to get the H87-PRO, and had them place the order. I did not have my reading glasses with me and did not look at the invoice until I got home. The motherboard shown on the invoice was the ASUS Z87-K-R (R denoting refurbished). The ASUS Z87-K has been replaced by a newer version ASUS Z97-K which I found on Amazon for $130. I was billed $150 for the refurbished board. Not only did I NOT get the board I wanted, I payed more than retail cost for an out of date refurbished one. I called the store and was able to cancel the order. I was granted a full refund but no apology. I dont know if this is a customary business practice for the store or not, but I will not be going there again in the future.

Update: Intrex has moved two storefronts down as of 3/2018. I dropped by to pick up a part and was horrified to find a Spectrum (formerly Time-Warner Cable) Customer Service center had metastasized where Intrex used to be. The sight of it filled me with the kind of MUST SMASH anger typical of traumatized former cable subscribers. But then I saw the Intrex sign two stores to the right and I was all like Yay!Anyway, on topic, Intrex is the sole remaining retail computer store in Cary where you can get actual computer parts and an intelligent answer to any computer-related question other than what other colors does it come in?. I particularly like that they carry TP-Link networking products and you can buy regular Ethernet/HDMI/etc cables for decent prices instead of having to take out a 2nd mortgage for that Monster Cable BS.

This place is the bane of my existence. I took my cracked iPad in on June 6th (Friday) to have the screen replaced. The service person at the front desk said that they will order the part and should be fixed by the following Monday. I waited until Friday, the 13th to go pick it up since I assumed that they would have fixed the screen. When I arrived at the store Friday afternoon, they told me that they were working on it and to come back in a few hours. It was already pretty late in the afternoon, so I decided to try again the next day, on Saturday. I gave them a call on Saturday June 14th to ask about the status and they said that they couldnt get the iPad to charge after replacing the screen and the iPad technician would be out of office until Monday. I was hoping to have my iPad functional before going on a two weeks trip, but no luck. During this time, I received no communications or phone calls from the store regarding the status of my iPad.Two weeks later, I just called them today, June 25th and they informed me that they had to order some tape because the one they had didnt stick well. I am told that the tape should be in by the end of this week, but who knows how long itll take for them to actually fix it. So 3 weeks later, I still dont have my iPad and have little definitive answer as to when I can pick it up.If you want your product to be fixed in a timely manner, do not come to this store.

I had priceless pictures, probably 800-900 pictures of my 3 kids from when they were babies on that hard drive!! WHo are they to just go and sell them!!!! He said they called me 3 times - but I have ONE voicemail (I dont ever erase voicemails) from them on August 4th. They lied and then they went and sold my laptop and external hard drive!
