Charlie’s- we arrived around 7:30pm and the shuttle took about 20min to arrive. Upon arrival, there were 2 attendants at the front to help check in. There was about 3 parties ahead of us and it took forever for it to get all sorted out. Be aware they will try to sell you for a $65 unlimited toll fee. I declined insurance since my credit card had rental car coverage. Our car was a brand new KIA SUV and was very clean and had no problems during the trip. The drop off process around 4:30pm was a breeze and took less than 5 min! The driver sprayed off the whole bus with a cleaning solution before boarding. When reviewing my final bill, I noticed a daily emergency response fee that was tacked on it. After speaking with the customer representative on the phone when I got home, they removed the charge with no issues. Overall, positive experience!

Ok service price was ok for 4 day rental. Rented a Mitsubishi Mirage that we the only compact car available only 3 cylinders. This car had no power whatsoever when driving in the mountains with only 3 passenger and small bags. Very slow no pickup in city driving or highway.

Dirty car. Old ... Broken hanging lights in back. Car smelled like cigarettes..To expensive. Nasty customer service. Taking advantage of tourist n our money. High prices for a dirty broken down car. Shame on the owner!!! I will let everyone in Florida know not to ever rent from Charlies car rental. Car was banged up everywhere. Guy that helped me.. yelled at me n told me that I return car felty dirty. I returned it like I got it!!! And who the hell is he to scold me? I am paying his stinken salary. He should have given a clean car to start with. Disgusted with these people.

Absolute trash of a car rental place. I don’t smoke and they’re telling me I smoked in the car. My mistake was not complaining about the smell when I got the car so they kept my $250 for the deductible but they aren’t keeping it. I got a nicotine test done and it was negative BECAUSE I DO NOT SMOKE and I already disputed the charge with Bank of America and they are not going to let the THIEVES that work here keep MY heard earned money. Trash.

I don’t know where to start. This place would’ve gotten 5 Stars from me and I really gave them a chance BUT first thing I will say is they lie for you to get the toll fee waiver by claiming the tolls are super expensive. Ok so then here goes my experience. Everything was perfect and a breeze I even thought to myself wow what incredible service. Once I parked the car at the Airbnb that’s when my nightmare began. Our luggage was infested with roaches and we thought we were loosing our minds. Mind you I don’t know if we will have repercussions further down the line with airbnb because we brought them in from car rental to place with our luggage unaware. We didn’t know where it was coming from until the next day we start seeing roaches just crawling all Obed vehicle. I called rental place and they didn’t even sound surprised. I went ahead to swamp vehicle and I still kept my cool even if I had to drive 1hour of my vacation time to swamp vehicle. Guess what second vehicle had same issues. The Pic I added here is from second vehicle. It was all a disgusting experience and I’m home now I left my luggage outside I literally will have to spray down all my clothes and stuff before bringing it inside my home. They didn’t even offer an apology or discount for my inconvenience. They wanted to charge me for not returning the tank full on the first vehicle instead of at least acknowledging that this was very very fukin unsatisfactory from any place or thing you rent. I’m just dissatisfied and disappointed. I really wanted to give this place a good rate because it started out very well but the fact that roaches got into our luggage and food is unbelievable.

Pick up time was about an hour. Very slow customer service. Be prepared to be forced to pay a lot more fees approximately $75 to $100 extra e.g., insurance even if you carry your own and have proof of comprehensive, toll fees even if you anticipate not using them you still have tp pay administration/activation fees of $25 or $8.99 per day for EZ pass. Be sure to check the condition of the car, they will give you an inspection report with no damages and after you do your own you will find several places big enough to note on the inspection report.

Pretty good customer service! They do take a deposit instead of just a “hold.” Quick pick up and drop off at the airport. Car was a little beat up but that is normal for driving on the awful Puerto Rico roads. We did the toll pass because of the amount of tolls in Puerto Rico. There’s a lot. We drove an average of 3 hours a day. Fill up gas before you get back.

The pick up experience was good, though it was time consuming they clearly explained me the insurance requirements and toll options but the drop of experience was very bad, the shuttle was loading bags from people and we had our bags ready while I was dropping of the keys, the shuttle driver didnt even bother to inform us, he just left us. We had a toddler and we risked missing our flight so had to rent an uber. The drop off can be more efficient, I should just drop the keys off instead of swiping my card again and causing further delays

I booked a suspiciously good deal on a rental car here for my week-long visit of PR, and I was a little nervous about what to expect, especially since their location is a few miles from the airport. Luckily everything went very smoothly and the staff was quite friendly. The car they gave me was brand new and worked better than I would have expected, and was even great on fuel economy. The shuttle to and from the airport seems to run very regularly, I didnt need to wait more than 15 minutes for it to arrive at the airport or at the rental facility. Id gladly rent a car from here again.

I recently rented a car here for 2 days! ( the engine light was on and the brakes were horrible) They add on a bunch of chargers without letting you know & they charged me $250 for smoking in the car which I don’t even smoke due to health issues. I tried explaining to the manager I wasn’t smoking and he kept cutting me off, he wouldn’t let me get a single word in. Also, they charged me for insurance even after I told the guy at the counter I have my own insurance !!! I went to PR for a good experience & this car rental place seriously rubbed me the wrong way !! Wouldn’t recommend!!!Update : I emailed the owner and he was very helpful!

Ambush car rental tactics with added fees that dont even add up just to inflate their prices any way they can. Theyll advertise a cheap rate online only for you to add about another $100 before they ask for additional money for a deposit. Save yourself the headache and go to enterprise or a more reputable car rental place. Also...the place is maybe 3-5 mins from the airport...but the shuttle will take around 20-25 mins to get you. Strongly advise against renting from places like this one.

HONESTLY, I was worried about booking my rental through Charlies after reading all the bad reviews. Read their policies that are plastered all over their website and you will be absolutely FINE. It appears that most people with negative experiences just werent versed on what additional services to add to their rental (tolls, insurance, etc.) If youre worried about surcharges for tolls after the return of the car, download the Waze navigation app and select the routes with NO tolls. It does take a little bit longer, but we enjoyed the scenic route! This method is fool proof. My rental was 4 days, and we drove all around the island. Our car was in great condition, had low mileage, and had only minor cosmetic scratches on the outside. It was clean when we got it and took us where we needed to go without fail. We purchased the Total Protection Plan just in case an incident happened, but the peace of mind was worth every penny since I had a hard time finding out if my insurance would cover a rental in PR.Pick up and drop-off went so quickly and smoothly - in and out in about 15 minutes or less (but there were only a couple people ahead of me both times). I had no issues receiving my security deposit back upon return and the amount quoted on my reservation when I booked online was the amount I paid. Could not recommend this place enough if you are a competent human who will take a little extra time to do their research. I will absolutely be renting from Charlies again when I return to the island!!

Terrible customer service. They tell you to SHUT UP over the phone. You have to wait well over an hour. Not just one rude person there! LOTS!! Cars are low quality. They also try to demand you buy their insurance coverage. Go elsewhere! RUDE RUDE RUDE!

Hesitant to book due to previous reviews, but we were pleasantly surprised, considering we booked the reservation online pretty last minute. The pick up and drop off were quick and the shuttle took us promptly to the airport. No hidden fees were added, as we picked the pre-paid toll option and total protection plan beforehand on our reservation. Would pick them again.

Amazing customer service. Spent about an hour trying to change something with priceline customer service and I finally just asked them for the number of the front desk for where my girlfriend was getting the car from and the guy changed it in like 3 seconds

No good, look elsewhere for affordable prices, I was charged $100 a day, I was also told that I wouldnt be able to find anything cheaper and they were wrong. I found several places under$50 a day... Shame on your employees charlie. Customer service should be top of the line

THE WORST. You rent at a certain price and when you get there there is so much hidden fees and taxes you have to pay. I paid 300 alone just on hidden fees. On top of that the car i got had issues, the company you book with is ace but when you arrive for pick up it’s Charlie. This is a fishy company. I do not recommend this. They will literally overcharge the heck out of you. You are not paying what you think. A lot of stuff is manditory add on, so you are literally screwed. Rent instead with well known companies. I learned my lesson. My 700 rental easily because 1200.

I rent a car with insurance coverage from where I make my reservation. And the person on the counter obligated me to purchase their own insurance and if I didnt do that they wont rent me the car. So I paid $150 extra on insurance just to get my car then they wanted to give me a economic car when I pay for a minivan. So I went back and the person on the counter was really really rude they need to get more professional people and stop stealing people the money when we pay already for insurance. I wont recommend this place at all pay a little bit extra and get a rental car from the main airport no shuttles.

Okay.. you rent a car and they ask you to get their insurance or to show proof of one. I have my personal (Geico) and out we go.. I was rear ended on the high way under a storm. Got a police report and the information of the driver who hit us ..... they stil have my insurance as a backup... But No!!! I was expected to pay cash for the dameges... wait What!! So why do i need proof of insurance if you are going to charge me 3.8k?!??!? Im now working with a lawyer to get this taken care of.

Awful experience renting from them. The customer service representatives there are super rude and don’t care about you at all. Their operations is extremely archaic and they were slow in processing your paperwork. Even returning the car required you to get back in a long line and “close to your contract”. I don’t recommend this car rental agency to anyone even if you’re desperate. Go somewhere else or take one of those electric scooters.

The price is affordable but the vehicles are in bad shape, filthy and infested with roaches. Their customer service is horrible as they treat you like they’re doing you a favor.

Best customer service! My favorite is the workers there! They didnt even try to upsell us but gave us tips on how we can save money on our car rental! Its very rare to find a car rental place nowadays who would do that all the others would jsut give us a hard time on how they can make more money out of us! But this place, the workers are so accomodating!We were in and out of there so fast! Dropping off was easy!Also, can I mention the driver (I forgot his name :( ) but he was so HONEST!!!!! my husband forgot his wallet in the shuttle and he came back to look for us at the airport just to give my husbands wallet. Over priced rude lack of common decency. The Manager responded to my comment regarding pricing by blaming the pandemic. I can understand and respect that because we all have been affected by this pandemic. I have no issue with payment. My issue is after 3 days we paid your rate and when we returned your vehicle we asked for a simple 5 minute ride back to our hotel and you refused us therefore we had to pay an Uber to take us back to our hotel. That my friend is a lack of common decency and I will never rent a vehicle from you again. The cost isnt the issue its your behavior.

BEWARE!!! This rental company is a complete rip off! I went against my better judgement after reading the negative reviews and still went with ACE RENTAL CAR/ CHARLIE. You think you are getting a great deal compared to the other rental companies but when you arrive you are charged almost DOUBLE of what the reservation was. Very misleading and slick way of getting innocent tourist to book with them over competitors. Our friends booked with another agency and paid nothing additional at the door all fees included up front so no surprises and their rental came out $200 cheaper than ours once we added in all the fees and insurance. They require you to get liability insurance after already purchasing insurance through the 3rd party site. I have booked many rentals and have never been hit with additional costs at pick up. Besides the frustration of having to pay more at the door when we arrived at 2:30AM no one was there . The line was outside the door and we had to wait 30 mins just for a gentleman to come to assist and he was not pleasant or apologetic for the long wait. He did not walk us to the car to do an inspection which I found very concerning because the car had a huge dent on the side and I did not want to be held responsible. I did a video of the entire car as proof that this was the condition of the vehicle at pick up still in the parking spot! Of course upon returning the vehicle the guy tries to blame us for the damages and has the nerve to say this was fresh damage. I pulled up our proof on my phone with the time stamp showing the date and time proving this was already the condition of the vehicle and he didn’t not offer an apology for accusing us or anything. Imagine I had not had the video they would’ve pinned those damages on us! Very unorganized and would not recommend. I tried to get an understanding of the additional fees and the guy was a jerk!! None of the fees make sense we were told it was a $20 charge for the tolls but were charged $8.99 / day so it came out to be $44.95! Please save yourself time and frustration!!

Not bad at all. The service at the counter was ok. But the shuttle was terrible. It took too long to pick us at the airport and the driver wasnt so friendly. He should work as a security guard or a cop instead. Hey man, youre working with tourists. So, be more kind and friendly.

You can reserve a car rental you reserved it, it show you one price and when you get at Charlie car rental its double the price, and u have to leave a deposit. And give them your car policy num. from back home. Also they charge you for tolls$25 to activate and then pay for the tolls you cross thru. Not worth renting a car there.

To be honest I was very skeptical with this company per the reviews I had seen. The counter is out of airport premises, that could mean a negative review for some, the shuttle took a little while to pick us up, but renting with them saved us about $350 for a 5 days period for a 7 passenger mini van.. Very friendly staff. Got the car we reserved car, excellent condition.

Possibly one of the worst rental car experiences I’ve had. I reserved a car online and had prepaid with my Apple Card credit card. However when I went to go pick the car up, after waiting about half an hour in line, was told that they do not accept Apple Card, despite it being a regular MasterCard and them having signs saying that MasterCard is accepted. I’ve rented cars through so many other companies and none of them have ever had an issue. If you want to feel like you’re renting a car in the early 2000’s, check out Charlie’s.

Made a reservation a week before I actually picked up the vehicle and in the website it said I had 24 hours after the picked reservation time to pick up my vehicle. When I get there a few hours after my reservation time they told me they gave the vehicle to someone else because it was 2 hours past my reservation time when online I spoke to a representative and told me it was 24 hours. I was stuck in San Juan with no vehicle and all my bags & I needed to travel to Isabela. We needed to wait until the next morning to get a vehicle from a different company since all the airport companies had to vehicles unless you had a reservation made. DO NOT RENT WITH THESE PEOPLE!!!

I have gone several times for vacations or do personal things and I always rent a car.This time I rent with this company and they are very misleading, it does not give you the explanation for the settlement charges taxes toll and insurance policy. Charles or ASE will NOT EXPLAIN HOW IT WORKS the toll OR taxes AND insurances yes because they put 2 different one and they told me because is required by the government. Never again with this company which is Charlie same as ASE.If you want a big surprise at the end of your trip, rent with them if not look at my photos. Be smart and do you research. I call them and I sound ok but I had a bad feeling. I see why. And I used isla verde also went they picked up us the van was full I just thought about covid no a good choice at all.

The guy helping us was very rude. We made reservations through hotwire and they did not want to honor the pricing on our reservation. After 45 mins, we made changes and ended up getting our rental. I personally do not recommend!!

Make sure you have adequate collision and liability insurance before going there because otherwise theyre going to add it on to your rate. also, keep in mind whether youre going to be using toll roads. They have $7.99 a day deal that covers unlimited tolls. and the tolls can only be paid electronically. No cash accepted at the booths.

DO NOT RENT FROM ACE/CHARLIE CAR RENTAL IN PUERTO RICO!!! THEY SEEM CHEAPER BUT END UP COSTING YOU WAYYYYYYY MORE THAN IF YOU RENTED WITH A BETTER COMPANY. Other providers accept your USA car insurance but NOT ACE/Charlie Car Rental. They FORCE you to buy their insurance and that adds a couple hundred per week to your rental price. We rented our minivan for a month and end up paying almost $2,000 just for insurance alone! Crazy! Also, their pick up and drop off process is HORRIBLE! It literally takes about an hour to pick up the car and then another hour to drop it off. We almost missed our flight home because of their unprofessionalism. My sister rented a car too but from Avis and she was in and out in no time and was also NOT forced to buy expensive additional car insurance. We really wish we had not picked this company. Save yourself the grief and money - stay away from them in Puerto Rico!

Of course Avis was supposed to be open on Condado Sunday, however they decided not to show up. Charlie car was our last hope. They picked us up from our hotel and took us to Isla Verde. They were nice and affordable. The Hyundai Accent worked perfect for 3 people. They also took me back to my hotel when the rental was done. They did an awesome job. Ditch Avis and use this company. Great job and friendly people.

This place only had one employee that yook forever to attend customers. We had already booked online and there was a line going out the door at 12 oclock at night. I wouldnt revommend this place to an enemy. Even after we had reserved it prior online , the attendant still tried to convince my wife to take a 2 door jeep wrangler instead of the nissan rogue we had reserved. Which we purposely want a midsized suv. Hatef the experience completely.

Completely a disaster of place just because of the service!

Very unpleasant experience with this place. We called the agency the night before our return date to request extension of our contract for one extra day. We were informed by a female staff that there wouldn’t be any fees or penalties for that and that it would be charged only one more extra day. At the moment of the return we were surprised with a charge of $106 for the extra day. Talked to manager, showed the proof that we contacted the place and even though they still charged us this amount. Never using this place again. Scammers!

The attitude of the staff and the cleanliness of the cars was totally unacceptable.We had to change cars as it smelled heavily of cigar smoke..... waiting in line almost 1.5 hours was not ok.

We had such a great experience with Charlie Rental. Highly recommend. They were so helpful and very prompt with pick up and drop off. The car was clean and very reasonably priced. Everyone we encountered was very friendly. We had an issue with a lost key and they were there in no time with a replacement. We thought we were surely in for huge fees after that, but since we purchased the insurance, we paid nothing! Rent your car from Charlie!

By far the best rental agency in Puerto Rico. Ive rented in 4 different rental agencies and this one is the best I just rented from then a couple days ago and is my second time using there services no hidden fees.

The transportation to and from the airport was quick and appreciated. Open 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. What more could one ask for?

Exceptionally slow service

Everything with the rental went very smoothly. The car was in great shape and clean. Having read other reviews, I was prepared with my insurance card and the declarations page of my policy so I did not need to buy additional insurance. The options for the toll pass are to pay $8 per day for unlimited tolls or to pay a $20 fee for the pass and then any toll charges are charged to your credit card. Since we were renting the car for a month, we chose the $20 option and then incurred a little over $100 in tolls during the month doing extensive driving. Well worth the convenience to use the toll roads. Figure out which one makes sense for you before you show up so you dont hold up the line trying to figure out which is best. The price was exactly what we were quoted when we booked the car through Kayak. Friends that visited rented a car from another company and paid as much for a week as we paid for a month. We will certainly rent from Charlie Car Rental again.

Would recommend paying for tolls after- we drove around the entire island and only accrued 10$ in tolls, the prepay option is 7.99 a day (way more than you can ever get by driving)Had the best prices we could find- would highly recommend!

The Staff was nice and friendly so I will give 2 stars. However, there was extra fees that wasn’t listed on the website at check out. It would of been nice to have the total for the rental be the correct amount and not a different total once we was in Puerto Rico. Plus the different option plan for the tolls was not good. The guy at the desk was not correct with the toll plan that he gave us and we got a bill in the mail. We was supposed to get the option to pay tolls one time and not every time we hit a toll. He did not give us correct information. Either way, we had a good time in PR, but we will go with another agency who gives correct information.

Staff was very friendly and thorough. Car was clean. They even held my bags while I walked around.No need for a credit cart but then you may have a steep deposit.You will need to pay for fast track. 6.99 per day.

Nice cars to rent

Five star from pick up through return! Less than a 10 minute wait for the shuttle from the San Juan airport. Shuttle driver was courteous and fun (like the Puerto Rican people). Made me feel so welcomed to the island. Check in was seamless, so quick and efficient, I had barely enough time to cool off in their air conditioned office. Top service and care. As with the prior two rentals, I am thoroughly satisfied.

Update. Lowering number of stars since the business has decided to share private details about how I used thier service. I stand by my original comment and with even more emphasis now. Owners comment below does not accurately represent the exchange of the service/product and in an effort to save my time and the little bit of privacy in regards to my interaction with this business, I will not comment further. ThanksGo with a brand name car rental. They get you in with the cheap per day costs online, but once you get there they charge for everything .. hidden costs everywhere.

Even though Ive had others help during car rentals, Im going to toss it up to Covid-19 as to why this driver of the shuttle didnt help anyone with any of their luggage when loading. Other than that, it was good.

The driver was courteous and friendly. He made small talk while loading our bags and during the short commute from the airport. Check in was very quick. We were there for less than 15 minutes. We drove off with no issues. On the second day of our rental, we noticed INTERMITTENT electrical issues with the vehicle. On the next day, I stopped in just to let them know. My vehicle was upgraded at no additional cost and with absolutely no hassle. By time I returned from topping off the gas tank, my replacement vehicle and paperwork was waiting for me. I was told to speak with Mr Martinez the next day regarding an extension to my rental period. Rates for the following week had increased substantially across the entire area due to the seasonal fluctuations. The counter employee suggested reaching out to the manager/owner for a better rate! That evening, I emailed Mr. Martinez about the previous vehicle and possible extension. He personally verified some of the electronic issues the other vehicle had, and apologized via email for the inconvenience. He offered our new/upgraded vehicle at the same rate of my initial contract extended out another week! Without exaggeration, this would have been a $150 savings on the initial vehicle and over a $300 savings on this upgraded one! Thats the definition of amazing service!I spent some time looking over other car rental companies for my extended week and Charlies is by far the cheapest! Add in the upgrade and its amazing to me that they went this far to satisfy a 1st time customer. This was well beyond expectation.Thank you Charlies!

Good day allIm writing this review against Charlie Rental Car especially to poor customer service by the lady I talked to working on Monday 12, 2020 @500pm who didn’t gave her name and rudely treated my person. After a week of renting with this Charley Rental I had an additional charge that It was NEVER told to me in other words once you get there they have hidden charges and they do not explain clearly how they will be charged and there response is “you sign the contract and it explain the charges there” mind you small printed letters. They offer you a sun pass stating it will be a one time unlimited charge then they charge you separated for all tolls you pass. Stating the first payment it’s only an activation. Mind you that sun pases when u buy them, you already had paid an activation fee...therefore everyone that rents a car there charging extra money 💰 profit to there company, besides all tolls you go thru. They have a track on debit card where if you pay with it they will mandatory will charge you with there car insurance avoiding your one insurance making extra profit to there company, they also have low car rental promotions where then they trick you stating if the promotion is lower than $10.00 dollars you will have to paid daily increase car insurance. I’m very disappointed ☹️ with this company who when they stared a rented few times with them due to loyalty and good competition with other car rentals. Obviously 🙄 they have come to a stage where they think there in the top having these hidden charges blind to the public. Therefore Im shouting out there my frustrations with Charla Rental Cars and clearly stating I will NEVER rent with them again....👎

Renting with Charlie Car was extremely easy, great prices, no surprise fees. We read their emails and knew to have a digital copy of our personal car insurance ready to go- so we didnt need to get extra collision insurance. The folks working are extremely kind and helped us calculate the best tolls option- you do need to pick one as many tolls are now cashless. The car was simple and got us aroud the island. My parents are visiting in a month and we will have them rent here as well.

Worst service ever!Even with my disposition of signing waiver of of being responsible for any damages of the rental, the general manager did not give me the car or even any other option.

No nope 👎🏻 ,,,, don’t do it I came a couple months ago as while and they left me stranded with no reservation after speaking with a woman six months prior I recently moved back into the island and needed a car rental and called them customer service not good!!! They definitely lost it...

I had such an awful experience renting a car here, I used priceline to rent the car which said it was ACE, now, here Charlie is the car provider for ACE, meaning theres no ACE, its Charlie. The challenges I found were:* They use the same place to pick up and drop off* Queues are not too long but in my case it took 1h20m to pick up my car, about 1h waiting in queue and 20m dealing with the salesperson.* The price stated in Priceline is not correct, they add about $15 per day they claim is mandatory for public resposability insurance. No way around it.* They add some optional fees that you have to identify asking for a detail of the charges and then ask them to remove them. My bill went from $360 paid in priceline to about $900 before asking them to remove optional charges and even then it was more than $700.* The place is not really close to the airport and the shuttle can take a while to come by and to get to the drop-off/pick-up point.* I had to sign about half a dozen papers, provide an email address written by hand in a piece of paper and two phone numbers (all this information they already had since I rented via priceline). They also asked for my license and seems to need to type in all my details on their computer. It took a long time.* Finally, they really push to sell you additional services, it takes a while for them to accept that you do not want them, I understand the dynamics of commisions, sells, etc, but when you have people waiting for more than 1h its just unrespectful for your clients.Pros: Car was clean, modern, exactly as advertised.
