Great place to take your pets, friendly and efficient and not any more expensive in the middle of the night than from during the day. I will use them as my regular vet now as needed because of how well they treated me and my pupper who was having some suddenly concerning issues late on a Saturday evening. Driving and hour and half into town after a nice dinner when you have a movie lined up is not always ones first wish, but we went and glad we checked everything out. Reasonable bill and we were well taken care of. Excellent service and care!

I live in a smaller town in WY and was referred to Dr. Smith and Best Friends Animal Clinic for a procedure for my dog that my local vet wasnt capable of (tumor removal/CT scan). The entire staff was incredibly kind and made the whole process as simple as possible. Dr. Smith removed the tumor and made sure we knew exactly what to expect. Their follow-up has been incredible and its great to work with staff that truly care about their patients. We live 3 hours away and I feel like it would be worth it to take my dog here for everything. 10000% recommend.

I dont know why this place doesnt have 5 stars. I drove from Dickinson,ND because this place has advance service. Staff I met in person was great. Dr. D.J. Smith extremely great doctor. I forgot to tell him a few things I was recommend by another vet and he made the changes without me having to even ask. I just got home and found out they went the extra mile and cut my dogs toe nails which is hard to do for me and I didnt even have to ask. On top of all things DR. D.J. Smith called me several times to keep me informed told me everything they were doing and why. Im not a Dr but I do my research and this place was spot on and went above and beyond. He even explained things my primary vet did that they could not or would not answer for me. I would drive all this way here anytime for my dogs. Its hard to trust vet especially ones your going to for the first time. I trust them 100%. Also they got the swelling to stop and started going down. My primary couldnt get it to stop swelling but they did. Great job!

Absolutely fantastic veterinary practice. I have taken my dog here twice now for after hours emergencies. First time he swallowed a fish hook that needed to be removed, and second time he had a mass on his spleen which was bleeding internally which needed to be removed as well as his whole spleen. These were both major procedures, and my dog means everything to me. From the first phone call to the diagnosis, to treatment/surgery, to all the communication and aftercare, Best Friends staff were extremely professional, compassionate, knowledgeable, informative and skilled in their expertise. I am beyond grateful to the team at Best Friends, and recommend this vet without hesitation.

Best Friends is amazing! Dr. Galvin seems to genuinely care about my pets. As a dog mom, that is really important to me. She listens, asks questions, and really takes the time to address any concerns we have. It’s nice to have someone with a great personality! Also, we had to say goodbye to our old Golden last month and Dr. Uffleman was also incredible. It was the first time I’ve been present during euthanasia. Though the situation was terribly heartbreaking, she was so caring and patient with us as we struggled with a whirlwind of emotions and tears. We appreciated her compassion. She made a difficult decision not as difficult as we were anticipating. I recommend Best Friends to everyone that is looking for quality care for their pets! I’ve sent many friends, family, and coworkers to this facility and no one has ever complained about their experience. Keep up the great work!

They don’t care about your pet. Took my dog here and she was treated with kennel cough. I have 3 dogs and so then my other dog also got kennel cough and hers was really bad. I called the clinic to see if I could get some cough medicine to make her more comfortable. I was told that sometimes it could take up to 24 hours to get prescription filled but they would mark it as urgent and someone would call me back. 24 hours came and gone and no word on the prescription so I called and they were so busy I had to leave a message. It has now been 48 hours and still no call. I will be taking my 3 dogs to a new clinic since this one only cares about money and not your pet.

9-3-20 update: Make sure not to write a bad review or they will fire you from their clinic!! See picture and now reduced to a 1 star. PEOPLE AVOID THEM AT ALL COSTS!!!This was only vet that would take an emergency on Saturday that wasnt 40 min away from me. So I had no choice but to use them (stinks how they were are only choice.) We took our kitten in that got ran over by a lawnmower (blades not engaged). Right away I asked my husband if we should shoot it and he said he couldnt so into the vet we went. With the covid I couldnt go in so we sat in the car and waited for the call swearing they would put her down. That was not the case they said the kitten had a very strong chance of living and thought it was just a concussion. I asked many questions and asked are you sure we shouldnt just put her down. She was over the top hopeful and talked me into fixing her. She quoted $300ish and collected the deposit. Everything she said was hopeful going that she looked good. I didnt mind spending the money because of her confidence and how high if hopes she gave us. 2 hours later she said she is improving and even more hopeful and talked us into $200 xrays... we were still ok cause we were going to bring our kitten home. At 2am the kitten seized and died. It was such a blow as the dr never ever mentioned death and pretty much took it off the table. We go to pick up the body the next day and get hit with a $756 bill. I was not only devastated from the cat dying but for the bill too. I felt the dr was very deceitful and that they saw me coming. I reached out to the manager to ask why and he just kept skirting the issue. The cat should of been put down as we came in. The dr should of never gotten our hopes up like she did and the bill should of been oked with me after reaching the $500. Their practices are shady and I hope to god I never have to use them again. Again they monopolize this and are our only option for emergency care in our area. Im not giving them a 1 star because they were very kind as they were lying to me and raising my bill every hour haha. So if you want nice only they are your people but for care avoid at all costs.

I honestly hate leaving bad reviews…. But this was our experience so I believe it’s important to share. A few years ago one of our male champions begin to bloat. Normally we would rush our dogs to our local vet, but she had been on vacation at the time of the incident so we were forced to Rush him to the closest Veterinary hospital ( best friends) which was a 40 minute drive to town. Trust me when I say my husband was not doing the speed limit! 🙄 it was a race to get him to the vet and not lose him. This particular dog was quite young and had begun showing very early signs of bloat. Keep in mind this was not our first rodeo dealing with bloat, having raised this breed for 20+ years, we recognized it right away. Unfortunately I did not have a bloat kit readily available. 😢 After the surgery and not quite a week later, when our normal vet returned from vacation we shared with her what had happened, during our conversation she reminded me that this dog should not have any more issues now since it is a common procedure to tack the stomach to the body wall, but that we should also consider having him neutered. A few years prior to this, one of our girls bloated after she decided to chew up her crate bedding. 🤦‍♀️ Our local vet quickly preformed the gastropexy surgery. She tacked her stomach and she has never had any issues since. After our discussion it occurred to me that best friends didn’t even really discuss much of what they had done. And we had felt rather rushed to come pick him up afterwards. So now I’m beginning to wonder since they didn’t even mention the importance of having him neutered, did they even tack his stomach?I thought Perhaps I’m being a worry wart….but ok, I should probably ask. Surprise!!! They did not! Enough said. This procedure would have been considered an extremely important simple thing to do for large breed high chested dog prone to bloating. I can’t even imagine for what reason this vet chose to not even bother with such a common procedure when clearly it was needed. Nor did they even bother to contact us to ask if we wanted it done. What bothered me more was when I inquired after the fact, the vet seemed to be thoroughly annoyed with me for asking. We have yet to take him in to have him re-opened back up and have his stomach tacked. It is quite an expensive surgery and I really hate to put him through that kind of stress again. It really would have benefitted him greatly given what Best Friends charged us for the original surgery and the time he spent in their care if they had just followed this common procedure. If you have a dog that is bloating, please take them else where to a vet with more experience. I would not recommend Best Friends.

My apologies for this long review, but I think its warranted and may be helpful instead of bashing.I have read the other reviews, have taken my pets in, and while Im not overly impressed with some things that happened, I can say the front end staff was always friendly. Every time I would speak to them they would note the file (I know this because on later calls the notes were read back to me with specifics about the previous calls) . That being said, I think there is definitely room for this establishment to improve. In early March 2021, I took my cat in to be examined for what I was pretty sure was a UTI. She was examined, but they were unable to get a urine sample at the time. We decided to give her a heavy dose antibiotic anyway, being as I was certain of the diagnosis. They sent us home with special litter that would allow me to collect a urine sample as available. Once collected, I took the sample back to the vet to have tested for crystals. I was told I should hear back in a couple of days. Days came and went. I heard nothing. My cat got better within a week of recieving the antibiotic so I knew she was on the mend. However, it had been a week and I still had not heard from the vet. Then 2 weeks went by.Im a courier, and on the weekends I work in the heights. Best Friends Animal Hospital is one of the businesses I pick up from frequently. During one of my pickups, I decided Id ask whoever opened the door to check on the results and please give me a call back. I figured theyd go tell whomever and Id finally get a call later that day. Again, my cat is doing well now so I really wasnt worried about her, but I had paid for the test and wanted the results. It became a bit of a game for me to ask about the test results when I would do a pickup there. This went on for a few more weeks. I wanted to see how long it would take them to call me back.Fast forward to mid-May, Id finally had enough waiting, so I called. The receptionist was very professional and kind. She seemed to be genuinely concerned about the situation.A few days later I did get some resolution. I spoke with the office manager. I did not get angry with him or chew him out, but that is clearly what he had been expecting me to do. I did tell him I expect better and they need to strive to be better. I also told him its not right and I hope it never happens again, not just to me but to anyone. He did not make excuses but felt bad and quite honestly, defeated. I dont want anyone to feel horrible about doing their job, so long as they do it as well as they can.Im not sure, at this point in time, if well continue to use Best Friends for our fur-babies, but I think there were a lot of contributing factors that lead to ongoing delays. This definitely shows some flaws in their system. I dont think they are a bad vet, but maybe struggling at the moment.

I recently took my 14 year old dog here, during after-hours to say goodbye. They ushered my dog and myself into a gently lit euthanasia room, asked me if Id like a few minutes alone, to say goodbye and were tender in the act itself. When she had passed, I advised that I was bringing her home with me to bury her. The vet then offered me a coffin to place her in.Making the decision to euthanize your loved one, is seldom easy. When the decision becomes clear, the act itself is one of love. To have a hospital understand that nuance and make those final moments less traumatic and one of tenderness, is so important. I will forever be grateful to them for that act of love from them to us.

When my otherwise healthy 9-year-old male tabby suddenly developed a urinary tract infection, I took him to one of my local veterinarians. My cat ended up contracting a nasty double-infection, staying at the local vet for 21 days, with repeated catheter insertion and extraction until his urethra ended up scarred permanently. He is such a laid-back, lovable cat, and it was horrifying to see how much pain he was experiencing. I kick myself for not asking for a referral to a specialist sooner, but I finally did.Best Friends in Billings is 4.5 hours away from where I live, but Im willing to do anything for my little boy. We made the trek the day after Christmas 2017 right as a major snowstorm was arriving in Billings. My only regret was that I didnt learn about Best Friends three weeks sooner, as my cat would have been treated weeks earlier rather than having to suffer in pain. He might have even been able to avoid surgery. The doctors at Best Friends recognized that Im a pet parent and not merely a pet owner, and treated me accordingly; Dr. Smith referred to my cat as your kid and the kid when he called to walk me through the post-surgery debriefing. As one of the hospitals owners, Dr. Smith went the extra mile and I enjoyed visiting with him the following day in person, too. Dr. Galvin was the one who checked us in, and she made sure my little boy got bathed after his initial exam, X-ray, blood draw, and bacteria culture, as the 4.5 hour drive with an open catheter meant that he was a miserable mess. Dr. Erickson was patient with me even as I was one of those people who continuously demanded updates on my cats treatment, even though she was busy tending to other patients and it was the holiday season. Dr. Mansur was the veterinarian on staff overnight and called me at the hotel a couple of times to let me know when my cat wasnt eating and would need to be force-fed. She insisted that I could call anytime, day or night, and I did. Dr. Miller was the vet who checked us out finally when the Interstate cleared on New Years Day, going over the post-care instructions in detail. As high touch as I was, I never got the impression that I was viewed by the staff as anything less than a strong advocate for my helpless little boy. Compared to how some places treat ones cat as something just a little above cattle, I dont take such sentiments for granted. The rest of the staff was also fantastic, especially the receptionist Angie who offered to take my cats blankets home to wash them as she knew I was staying at a hotel. She recommended places to eat, and was so friendly even though I kept bugging them each of the 5 days that my kid stayed there during his surgery and recovery. One of the Veterinary Technicians, Anja, nearly brought me to tears when I saw how carefully she handled my little boy, ensuring he was comfortable and talking soothingly in her pleasant eastern European accent so he wouldnt be frightened. She offered him five different types of food when he continued to refuse eating, and insisted on sending me home with samples of prescription diet. With his stay at the hospital extended due to the end-of-2017 blizzard, I had plenty of opportunity to chat with other pet parents in the lobby. Each of them spoke highly of Best Friends. This has been way too long of a review, I realize, so Ill just wrap this up by saying: if you are a pet parent--and not merely a pet owner--you owe it to your fuzzy child to seek out only the best providers. Best Friends Animal Hospital in Billings is staffed with just such people.

I then returned to the heights veterinary service on Bench Blvd. Dr. Hollond would never overcharge you and was always honest. But, now he no longer treats small animals. So I returned to Best Friends. Not a hard choice. One thing that Heights Vet would do though is give my cats rabies tags for their collars. Having the tags on them let others know that they ARE vaccinated, they have a number to call in case something were to happen and it makes the cats more noticable (sound-wise) to birds. I was told by the staff that they dont offer tags for cats, only dogs. But why? I really wish they would offer it to cats too. Instead, I was told I had to go to the Yellowstone Animal Shelter to get a license.

Best Friends Animal Hospital is the best vet clinic I have ever been to, which is a statement considering I worked at a clinic for four years. I was amazed by the professionalism of the entire clinic from reception, to the veterinary technicians, to the doctors. I felt like family even though I only came to this clinic after my dog was diagnosed with a terminal illness. The first vet I had sat on the floor and explained my dogs condition to me in a way I could understand so that I could make the most informed decision about his care. The worst day of my life so far was putting my dog down but Best Friends Animal Hospital made the impossible day a little easier. They worked with me to schedule a time late enough that my dad could drive in and had a room ready when I showed up. The veterinarian showed great compassion toward my dog and I, even though I was basically a stranger. I was also blown away when I got a call only three days later that my dogs remains were ready. Even the person in charge of cremation made me feel at home when he called my dog by name and presented me with a beautiful urn and paw print to remember my best friend. Im so thankful I was referred to Best Friends Animal Hospital for a second opinion, this clinic made the last days with my best friend better.

Until the Covid virus hit, this was the best place to take your pet. But now, the policy is if you have an appointment. you have to sit in the parking lot and wait for someone to come get your pet.[Ive waited up to 45 min. so far with my pet in a hot car] Emergencies get right in, but you dont, you have to wait in your car! Its traumatic enough for your pet to be poked and prodded by strangers, but its even harder on them if theyre alone! [Especially if theyre in pain] I think theyre going too far to protect themselves [and others] from this virus, because if youve got it your pet can carry it in their fur and it can still be contracted! If YOU arent wearing a mask and gloves, I can understand, but if youre protected and everyone practices social distancing and sanitizing as required, this policy needs to change.

My sweet 11 year old lab became very sick about 2 weeks ago. She was hospitalized, and the level of care she she received was top notch. We were able to bring her home yesterday, and were sent home with excellent instructions on her treatments and how to keep her comfortable. This team is the very best.

First time I boarded my dog here, I was very impressed. The staff were so kind and attentive to his needs. The facility was clean and they washed all of my dogs belongings before pick up. It was great that they offered a complimentary bath before heading home. I highly recommend this place!

Took my special girl there and they went above and beyond diagnosing and treating her including physical therapy. I got at least daily and sometimes more phone updates. I went in and was trained how to help her. I felt they were amazingly caring and compassionate. Its almost a 400 mile trip 1 way. and Id do it again in an instant if i had a big issue with my pets.

Had a wonderful experience here today. My Boston Terrier had punctured a couple remote batteries today while being gone at the store. I called ahead and asked a few questions and they calmly asked to bring him in and I did. They thoroughly explained to me the medications that had been prescribed and what to do next time if this happens again. Very impressed, they turned a scary situation into a very good one. Neako is now resting and doing great.

Our experience was amazing! You are an exceptional, caring, educated, pretty much perfect animal hospital, thank you for everything! Due to Dr. Smith and staff, Major will be able to move forward into training and become a service dog for a combat veteran with PTSD. Northwest battle buddies thanks all the staff and so does Major Monroe!

We were traveling through Montana when our 15 year old dog, Breezy, began having a recurrence of pancreatitis symptoms, called Best Friends and they put us in as Urgent Care. We did wait awhile as they were very busy but we were given excellent advice and care when we saw the vet and especially by the vet tech Clint. They gave Breezy fluids, meds, prescription can food and the cost was very reasonable. We were very impressed and happy with the care and compassion. We even called back a couple of times for advice and Clint was very helpful, then we called from our final destination for a prescription for more canned food from a local vet and they did that for us very quickly. Wish they were near as I would love to take Breezy to them all the time!

On this the eve of Thanksgiving I am counting my blessings. Dr.DJ Smith and every staff member at Best Friends Hospital is at the top of my list . My 9 year old Doberman Seth suffered a Herniated Disc and was paralyzed 9 days ago. With Dr. DJ Smith’s expert surgical skills and lots of loving care from all the staff, Seth WALKED out of there today! We could not be more thrilled and there are no words adequate enough to express our gratitude. Thank You Best Friends Hospital for getting my kid back home!!!

Took my dog to get checked because since she had been home from being boarded there she was licking and developed spots on her belly and leg. Tried to explain to the young Vet that this started after she had been boarded at their facility but was basically ignored and she wanted to run all these tests. When I said the cost was not feasible I felt as though she was attacking me for not wanting to do as she had recommended. When I chose to leave and just take the medicine I was again made out to be the person in the wrong. I firmly believe whatever is wrong with my dog was a result from the time she was boarded there. They do not like to be challenged.

Best Friends cared for my dog like family from the moment we walked in. They explained every step of Emmas health, surgery and aftercare. They never assumed euthanizing was the best option, and I appreciated that so much. Without them I would not be able to enjoy this time that I now have with my babygirl. Forever a lifelong customer!

Where to begin I have taken my cat into best friends twice. Everyone is so nice. I will admit there is some truth to best friends being expensive but I would rather pay to keep my best friend around. All of the vets that I have seen have been professional and courteous to me, my situation, and my Max. They deffinatly do care about pets. 😸🐶🐈🐕

My elderly dog developed alarming symptoms in the middle of the night when we were traveling in Billings. Best Friends came up as being a 24 hour vet, so we took her there. We were treated quickly and given good news. Dr. Mansur even called us back later that day to make sure my dog was still doing okay. Cost for emergency care was similar to a regular vet visit in another state so I was pleased.

We had an emergency on Fathers day with our cat Nigel Thorberry. The staff and the doctor were very respectful and extremely polite. They handled Nigels situation with such care. They were amazing, from Heather who grated us all the way to the tech who checked us out and went over the treatment. They went so far as to call us the following day to see how he was doing afterwards.. Amazing people..!

I have been to this vet multiple times and have gotten great service each time I have gone in. However, I was recently out of state and had an emergency with my cat so I called in as soon as I got off work around 7 pm. I spoke to the emergency vet on call, as it was after hours. Upon picking up the telephone, the vet immediately said to me, Listen, I am exhausted and have zero patience right now. Is this an emergency or can this wait until tomorrow because I am really tired?. I was astounded and hung up the phone. I have spent plenty of money at this vet, and have always appreciated their service and the care they delivered. But this was so unprofessional that I had no words to respond. I am a resident surgeon and work roughly 90 hours a week- and never ONCE in my career have I told a patient that I was too tired to help them. I will NEVER go back to this vet again.

Ive been going to Best Friends for quite some time. They took care of my Allegra from puppy to rainbow ridge. They now take care of my Zuma and Magnet. Everyone is kind and knowledgeable. They give you options and cost for any procedure -no pressure. Their number one concern is the furry kids. Great hours and after hour care, never a concern if your goof ball dog some how gets stung at 2:00am and is having an allergic reaction.

Picked my dog up from one night being in their care, and he was terrified and covered in his own urine, which to me is inexcusable. Compared to my new veterinarian and his staff, the staff at Best Friends seem cold, uninformative, and not at all what I would call pet lovers nor people-pleasers. I sincerely hope others have a better experience than we did.

I am new to Billings and took my dog to Best Friends because it was close by. My situation was not an emergency. My dog had broken her dew claw and was in pain. I told them that I needed to keep expenses down because I am working part-time and Im in school. However, I did choose sedation because it was important to me that my dog did not suffer since she is a small Chihuahua. I ended up paying $157 which seemed exorbitant but I went ahead with it anyway. What angered me was that I signed a quote for that amount which included anti-inflammatory meds. Later on, the vet came in and charged me an additional $20 for the bandage, which was not on the quote, so I declined the meds to keep the price the same.To make matters worse, I called two days later to ask them to help me remove the bandage because I couldnt get it off without my dog crying out. Previously, they told me to come in and theyd remove it, no big deal. On the way to the vet, my dog removed the bandage herself. I went there anyway because I just wanted a quick confirmation that everything was fine. Well, they ended up re-bandaging her paw, even though they said it was unnecessary, and then charged me an additional $26 -- all without asking!I will never go back to this vet. This place is all about extracting every last dollar from you.

Called them about my cat who ate some tylenol and they said they would call me back with what I should do and they never called me back. Thankfully I reached out to a different vet who had me take her in immediately for treatment. Doesnt seem like they care, but thankful for the vet that knew right away how serious it was.
