My family was stranded in unity, we called grumpies mobile repair, he suggested a tow into town andthen he absolutely saved our entire vacation by finding an elusive sensor that had gone bad, in a day. The price was a third what we expected it to be and Ive never been so happy in my life.

We broke down in the extreme heat wave on July 4th weekend In Baker City, OR. We are senior citizens, with a 16 year old dog in a new small RV. Every mechanic in this lovely small town was booked, the sort of Dodge dealer was out three weeks in appointments! We were stranded, hot, and extremely worried. JR explained how booked he was with similar customers and it was very obvious as to how busy his shop was. I walked in to his clean office to overhear him rescheduling a local customer explaining our situation to this person on the other end of the phone. I couldnt believe it....he was really trying to work us in his hugely busy schedule. He didnt promise and he didnt tell us how he was rearranging appointments....he just did it. He invited us into his air conditioned office, said help yourself to coffee and his mechanic went to work, found the problem, did a test drive and we were back on the road. I still cannot believe the kindness of JR and his wife, Dana and the two mechanics. I was a registered ICU nurse and i hope I showed as much compassion to my patients as the people in Grumpys Repair, Inc. showed my husband and me.So very grateful! Ps. The charge was unbelievably low. RV dealer here in CO was amazed when we told our story

My wife and I were on a cross country adventure and our RV refrigerator went out, forcing us to use our coolers and keep our food on ice. We were connected to JR and the guys at Grumpy’s by a mutual acquaintance, and they were able to squeeze us in as we were passing through town. Their work was quick, efficient, and expert - they had us back on the road in under an hour with a working fridge and freezer (turned out to be a recalled part that they found out about for us) and gave us the part number that needed to be ordered once we get back home (there was a two day lead time to order it, two days that we couldn’t afford to lose). Even though they didn’t have the part they were able to repair it with their expertise and ingenuity. We are extremely grateful for Grumpy’s and if you’re through the Baker City area and need work we’d highly recommend them.

Called this shop to replace a fan clutch in an emergency. A half hour later my truck was in the shop. Timely service and professional repair. I would definitely come back.

This place is dishonest a cheat and will try to cheat you for every dime they can. Do not go there for anything be warned. They tried to tell me I had a blown head gadget when all it needed was just to replace the spare water tank in the retiator. They are dishonest.

Its been awhile but we are seniors not real savvy with internet so that being said. Our 30 ft motor home broke down in Baker City. It was a oil cooler line which was difficult to find in an older RV. We camped in the parking lot waiting on the part as as all parks/hotels were full during this time. Then, Our generator stopped. Let me just say JR and his wife went the extra mile plus some. Not just a great garage with superior work and customer service but genuinely kind and caring people. My fiance and I were on a road trip through Baker City when my vehicle started overheating. We were staying the night there and discovered the problem on a Sunday. So naturally I had to wait until Monday morning to find a repair shop. I was referred to grumpys Auto repair by a few locals and my hotel front desk. There was also a few other shop references that were conveniently located on the route to grumpys. So I got up Monday morning before any of the shops scheduled opening times and headed out on my repair adventure.The first stop I was told that he would not be able to get to my vehicle until the following day at the earliest. And the second place that I went to said they couldnt even look at it for 3 to 4 days. Naturally I found myself at grumpys Auto repair. Even at grumpys they were full. I got their 2 minutes before they opened and there was already two people in front of me. I was pretty sure that I was up shitt Creek without a paddle. But the guy at the front desk, JR was very good to me and took a look at my vehicle to at least see what maybe the problem was. They were able to do a pressure test and find out that I had a cracked thermostat housing. With that knowledge they chose to keep my vehicle and try to take a crack at it. There were no available parts in town and so they had to wait for my part to come in from the Ford dealership it arrived at 3:00 p.m., approximately 2 hours before theyre closing time. They were nice enough to spend even a few extra minutes on it past their closing time to ensure that they got the job done appropriately The price that I was charged was very fair especially given the emergency situation that I was in. I would recommend this company to anybody either living in banker or passing through with similar engine problems. There were pleasant and nice and very efficient.

My daughter and I were in Washington from Colorado due to a death in the family. On the drive back home, the motor started to make a noise that sounded like something had come loose. We stopped at a rest stop between La Grande and Baker City. I found a loose bolt and tightened it, but the noise persisted. We drove into Baker City after dark. The sound was worse. We parked. I looked again. Something had leaked, it looked like oil, so I figured I was in for some really bad news. At the hotel I asked the front desk person if she knew any good mechanics in town. She recommended Grumpys. I looked online and Grumpys also had high ranking reviews. I called first thing in the morning. I was told to bring it over right away. Within 30 seconds, it was diagnosed as the water pump. Thank goodness it was something easily repairable. I was quoted a decent price and they went to work on the car. In about 3 1/2 hours, we were back on the road and the price was just under what I was quoted. (Enough for us to grab a lunch at Mickey Ds ) I personally dont like to have repair work done on a car and then immediatley take it on a long road trip, but I didnt have a choice. I am happy to say my car worked great. We drove through all types of weather/road conditions; sun, rain, snow, and sleet. In addition, we were also in high altitude as the Eisenhower Tunnel on I-70 is over 11,000 feet above sea level. I got home safely and am grateful to Grumpys for the fine repair job.

Traveling through, while working had transmission problems. Mechanic made a quick diagnosis, and managed to fit my truck right in, thanks to already stocking the part I needed they had me back on the road in about 2 hours. Thanks again need more good repair shops like Grumpys

Always quality service and tries to save you money when ever possible

If youre wondering if they are reliable and trustworthy my opinion is yes and yes. I wish I could find this kind of service at home! Had an out-of-town after-hours breakdown and they offered to give the repair a shot with their after-hours on-call employee but i was worried i would need parts that would waste thier time and my money so they let me park it and key drop. I returned to my home in Boise area and when I contacted they were down a few people due to illness but still made it a priority and fixed it in a very reasonable time and for a very reasonable price. I didnt have to call for reports, they called me. Happy all the way around. Pick-up was a breeze. Thanks Grumpys!

One of the fairest and most caring mechanics I have come across. Most mechanics have what it takes to get your car back on the road. What separates great Mechanics, like Grumpy’s is the fact that they actually care about the people they do business with and the community they serve. If you have broken down somewhere near baker city and are on google looking for the place to go as I was, you have found the right place.

Absolutely professional service! Friendly, honest and on time. We needed a basic engine service (oil change,etc) and asked them to check why the RV was starting sluggishly. They not only diagnosed the problem but had it repaired with new chassis batteries and cables by the time the oil change was done! All for less than the Cummins service center and in 1/3 the time. I highly recommend JR and his crew.

A few miles before the exit to Grumpys I had a battery light go on. I was pulling a 26 ft. travel trailer and my truck is an 05. I was concerned about making the trip to begin with but I was determined to see my daughters family in Seattle area. I had already had one break down. I called my daughter and she looked online and said she saw a mechanic near the next exit off of the highway. It was Grumpys. I quickly called and he gave me the best directions on how to steer the truck and trailer in safely and how to pull in. It was late Friday before Labor Day weekend. I know he had a full garage. He took the time to diagnose, order the part and get it in before letting his guys leave. Grumpy was so helpful and wished me well on the rest of my jouney. Thank you Grumpy! Excellent! Opened his shop on a Saturday for me, tenth place I called. He spent a lot of time on the problem, explained his delays as he went along, showed me what he repaired, and explained the pros and cons of the options. Highly recommended. And a super nice guy.

I was driving down to Colorado from Washington when I pulled up to the gas station for a refill and noticed my power steering was no longer working. Turns out my serpentine belt melted and snapped. Luckily, Grumpys was just a minute away. Fred was straight to the point and easy to work with. Even though they did not fix my car (my choice), they were really nice and patient with me while I figured things out.If your car breaks down in/near Baker City, I would highly recommend Grumpys!

Driving a 31 foot motorhome on I-84 about 30 miles from Baker City we hit a truck tire tread dead on. Upon examination we found that the exhaust system was trashed. Many calls finally directed us to Grumpys. We limped slowly for those miles and pulled into Grumpys lot. We were greeted immediately, directed to pull around and into the bay. JR, jr, got under the rig and gave an estimate of 2 hours to get us back on the road. He pulled out the damaged parts and rigged a fix and had us on the road in less than 2 hours for less than 300 dollars! We had my 90 year-old mother, who had just been released from the hospital, in the rig and the quick and pleasant service was GREATLY appreciated!

My daughter (with two masters degrees in Neuroscience) took my vintage Corvette to Baker City... without my knowledge :( She is smart but in this case, Not very lucky! The Corvette broke down. In dealing with more than nine people to fix this situation, I was the GRUMPY one :( After 18 frustrating hours, Fred called to make sure I was on the road again. Unfortunately, he discovered that nothing had been done :( However within 2 1/2 hrs Fred diagnosed the problem, purchased parts, installed, test drove, and gassed up the Corvette while I made my way from Boise to drive it home! :) Fred is my favorite Grumpy Guy! I was a thousand miles from home and my 2000 E-350xl 7.3lt diesel decided it wanted a new cam sensor on a Sunday afternoon. Grumpys came to the rescue . Quickly diagnosed and fixed by polite and professional staff. thank you for getting me back on the road and home to my family. The call the next morning to see how everything was going shows how much they care about doing a good job.

Nobody wants to break down on a long road trip, but since I did, I am so glad Grumpys was there to help! Good service, good communication, good people! As a woman who was traveling solo and who admittedly doesnt know much about cars, I feel I was treated respectfully and fairly. Made sure I got safely to a motel for the night as well.

We could not have been happier with the service and treatment we received at Grumpys. We limped in there 1/2 hr before they closed. They were obviously slammed but immediately gave us attention. We were welcomed to spend the night in our camper on their property , complete with power provided. Next morning they went straight to work and we were back on the road within a couple of hours. Our charge was VERY responsible as well. They are extremely honest and up front. We really felt that we lucked out by finding them since we were about 400 miles from home. May I also mention that as an owner of several business ‘s I am well aware that there are some people you just CAN NOT please no matter what. If u read any negative reviews on these guys I am more than certain they come from this group. They were rude for one and two they let my husband and puppy stand out in the snow freezing for 2 and a half hours, and then charged us almost $600.00 for a $140.00 part thats was very over priced and very rude people that work and own the place

This is by far one of the best places! Our uhaul truck broke down on the side of the highway and they were so wonderful! He worked diligently on our truck and worked until 4 in the morning to make sure we were able to finish our cross country move. Then on top of that he brought our uhaul to the hotel we were staying in and checked on us throughout the remainder of our trip to ensure we made it safely. This place goes above and beyond on customer service. I would use them again and again above anyone else!

We broke down on our way to troutdale Oregon 16 miles outside Baker city.. between the nice policeman that stopped and got us a towe truck and kris the driver taken us to Grumpys repair shop and Freddie going out his way by opening up after hours to get us back on the road and also arranging at new set of tires from Les Schwab and he tribble checked everything that he done to car ... Amazing! The water pump went out in our 2013 F150 on our way to Portland. Pulled off at Baker and found Grumpy’s. They were able to get us in and out and on the road in 2 hours! Incredibly accommodating and friendly staff. Thank you!

Despite the name they are far from grumpy. They diagnosed an electrical problem quickly and got me back on the road within a couple of hours, even though they were very busy. I am grateful for their help and charged a reasonable price. If you need auto service near Baker City, see them first. And take some time to stroll through downtown, some beautiful parks and neat old historic buildings.

Very late review here.Was on a road trip in my 2500 dodge about a year ago. Driveshaft u joint went out and i limped it in. They squeezed me in and got me going in a couple hours.Trip saved.It was expensive, especially because i had new u joints back in my garage and its my own fault i didnt replace them already. But worth every penny to have the trip saved within hours of thinking its over.

These guys are great. I had a transmission issue with my pickup and was told by another mechanic in town that I needed a new transmission. I decided to get a second opinion so I went to Grumpys. JR diagnosed the problem really quickly and my truck is now running like new. Turns out it was just low on fluid. These guys saved me a lot of money. Honest and great customer service!

Agreed to see and fix my wipers last minute. Took total of 5 minutes and they only charged me 25$. They made sure that I made it where I needed to go. They were friendly and knowledgeable. The mechanic seemed to know what was wrong before he even looked. What a life saver?! Definately not the service implied by the name!

This shop was terrific. They quickly identified the problem as a leaking fuel filter that I recently had replaced at home. They were very busy but they put our needs first and got us going again. Grumpys and Roadrunner Towing both treated us right.

Great group of guys. Had headers and 3in exhaust installed. Took some fabricating and welding but they got it done. Also built me a tail pipe. Truck sounds great and they cut me a killer deal.

JR was able to get our truck right in on a Monday morning after the water pump blew out while we were traveling through. We were back on the road in just a couple of hours at what we considered to be a very fair price.

While traveling home from the 4th of July, our alternator went out just as outside Baker City. It was 5:30 on a Thursday night. Grumpys was able to order my part and get it on the next truck from Portland and fix it the next morning. They saved me and my family. Grumpys went way and beyond to make my experience a good one. Car was leaking fluid, so I brought it in. Staff was super friendly and helpful. They were able to check it out and had me on my way in about a half hour.

Got charged $220 in labor for a 30 min job.

Mr Grumpy fixed my fuel line that ruptured in my hotel parking lot. He drove all the way to LeGrande to get a replacement part. I was back on the road the next morning. He was incredibly rude and unprofessional. He treated his employees horribly, yelling at one of them when he was trying to help me. It says in the ad that it is all in the name. It isnt. There has got to be someone else in Baker City that would have done the same thing but much more professional and kinder. Look for them before you go here. Not a good experience. Too bad because he did drive all the way to LeGrande. Wish I could have given him five stars

We had our car towed to Grumpys in baker city oregon because the Tow driver said that was where he had to go to be paid. It was on September the 8th 2018. the Insureance co. wanted to take it to the Cheverlet Dealer, and the ower whined on the phone for 5 minutes, so I gave in and let it stay with him. it took him four weeks to put it on the rack , so the insurance adjuster could look at it. That was October the 3rd.. I called him that I would pick the car on the October the 10th He wanted to know what I was doing with it I found an engine to put in then he told me he would put one in for $8,100.00. I told him I found one for $3,000.00 and $2,000.00 talked about whining, he told me that he needed to make money. He did not want to communicate with Ins rather than us. where is the coustmer service at? Then he wanted to charge me rent while my car sat there. He told me the bill was $950.00 when I got there he was not there the secretary gave me the bill was $1049.00.Thomas Daniels

We where on a family vacation from Idaho to Mt Rainier and Olympic Park when one of the wheel bearings went out on our 5th wheel about 30 miles out of Baker City. The whole rig had to be loaded on a 18 wheeler to get to town. Grumpys Auto Repair said they could fix the trailer and they allowed us to stay in the trailer at night on thier property while we waited for a new axle to be shipped and installed, which took 3 days. They provided us with electrical hook ups so we had air conditioning in the trailer during a pretty bad heat wave.They worked very hard to fit us into their busy schedule and got us back on the road as quickly as possible. We cant thank them enough as they saved our vacation. It was obvious that they have a very capable staff and were very thorough in adjusting the brakes on the new axle and making sure everything was done right. I left with piece of mind knowing that they had done the job meticulously and right.Thanks JR and Corey.Shane, Erin and the girls.

Truck broke down as I was passing through town. Luckily I was able to limp it to their shop. Ended up being the transfer case imploded, so I had to stay the night in town until my wife could pick me up the next day. Jeffrey was very helpful and drove me to the hotel, even though it was at the end of the day on a Friday holiday weekend.They fixed the transfer case as well as other ongoing issues I had.Thanks for the great service and getting my truck back on the road.
