If youre looking for an auto shop in South Austin that provides quality care, is upfront about your issue, and works in a timely manner while communicating with you throughout the process then this is the place! First time I came, had to get my car towed here and was told they wouldnt take a look until Friday as that was the soonest appointment. I arrived minutes before they closed, and got assisted and was told there was no issue getting mycar towed here that same day. Gary reached out to me Thursday and told me I needed a new battery, alternator and thermostat. He got my extended warranty info, and got it covered. My car was ready to get picked up by Saturday. Second time, dropped by to see if they had availability this week for an oil change, and they accommodated me into the schedule for Friday morning. Ive found my home auto shop at Ben White Automobile!

I brought my Buick lesabre Collectors Edition vehicle in for a steering wheel column fix . My steering wheel was straight when I took it in . When I got the call to retrieve my vehicle the bill was 900 and some change. I paid the bill, but noticed that my steering wheel was not straight I called them back immediately while on the road and had mentioned the case. They said take it to get realigned. I said that it was already done.also mentioned that the bill was 900 dollars and there reply was so . I run a very successful business here in Austin TX. And let me mention Im 5 star for a reason, because I listen to detail. Unlike This place. They then said bring it back hoping they would fix me up . But low and behold ripped my sunviiser mount off from the ceiling. If your feeling disgruntled/ because of a call back hand it over to another professional. Because obviously your not very professional. To whom ever reads this be cautious/ total cost in my vehicle as of today is at around 48,646. Its going to be a gift from me to my son whos knocking out college with flying scores. 😥🤯🤧 please do better.

I like Ben White Auto they are very kind and explain everything well. However, I don’t appreciate $60.00 worth of windshield wipers I didn’t ask for. Also, I’d appreciate knowing the cost of services before they are rendered to be sure I can pay the bill when I arrive.

I have found the most dependable and trustworthy mechanics in South Austin. Ben White Automotive is my recommendation to anyone that needs automotive work. I broke down on South Congress in the middle of rush hour yesterday. My car was towed to the Ben White location where Manager Gary Anders stayed late to take my information and he even gave me a ride to my house! By the next morning I received my first update (dead battery) and later that day a bad alternator and belt. All of this was covered by my extended warranty. In less than 24 hours, I was picking up my repaired vehicle. Im a very happy customer. I highly recommend this shop!!!

I can not express in words how happy I am that I called Ben White Automotive! This was actually my second opinion after I felt scammed by a different AAA endorsed company. BWA was able to get my original quote from $4000 down to about $1400 including parts and labor. They were extremely helpful in helping me find the replacement drive train and then honest enough to tell me that I didn’t need to replace the transfer case (like the original quote from a different auto shop included). I felt like I was treated extremely fairly and treated like an equal person instead of a customer with a blank check.There aren’t many people or things that I would endorse with 100% confidence, but after my first experience with Ben White Automotive I will definitely come here with any future car and truck needs. I will also be recommending them to all of my friends too.

Okay, so this review is long overdue, and this is the second time Im reviewing Ben White Auto since Gary and the guys over there are the best and people deserve to know the type of quality work that they do. I had previously taken my car to Ben White Auto after Covert Ford had given me the run around and Gary took care of me (see previous review of my name, Andrew Newton). After that time, Gary told me that I would need to get my timing chain replaced in the next few months as it was worn out and could cause additional problems. It happened to be that my timing chain assembly was covered under my extended warranty, and I was going on vacation to Mexico. So, I arranged to drop the car off with Gary before I left. He contacted me while in Mexico to update me, and he went to battle with the warranty company on my behalf to get as much covered as possible on my vehicle. He got the entire timing chain assembly as well as upper ball joints and control arms replaced cause they noticed those were bad and they were covered by the warranty as well. He managed to get the warranty company to cough up about $3,000 in repairs and over the course of 2 months, Ben White Auto saved me over $4,000 in repairs on my car!! Thats money in my pocket and Ive been driving the car for about 2 months now with no issues, it runs better than ever, and Ive put about 2,000 miles on it at least. Cant thank the Gary and the guys at Ben White Auto enough. They go above and beyond and really treat you like family. Now I call Gary any time I have questions on my car or anything and hes always willing to give me his thoughts and help out in anyway he can. Ill always go to Ben White Auto for anything on my car!

Fantastic Speedy Service!Ive brought my 2012 Hyundai Elantra to Ben White Auto once before, for a different issue.This time I brought it as I basically shattered my under car shield and needed to at minimum remove, if able to replace.I called at 9am, they saw me at 9:45, they ordered me a part while I did some errands, installed it and my entire issue was solved by 12:30pm.Fast, efficient, and friendly service. Gary is fantastic and I appreciate that he was able to see me on short notice and was able to get the part needed delivered and installed all by 12:30pm. And it didnt break my wallet!!

My car was making a sound and I called and spoke with Gary. He informed me there would be a $100 plus per hour diagnostic fee to determine what the problem was. When I arrived at the shop Gary and I went for a quick ride and within three minutes Gary diagnosed the problem as a power steering issue. He did NOT charge me the 1 hour - $100 plus diagnostic fee. His mechanic fixed my problem and I was out the door in no time at all.I’ve never had a better experience dealing with an auto shop.Gary was honest and fast and when I need ANYTHING else done on my car I will ONLY bring it to Ben White Automotive.TRULY and exceptional experience!!

New To Texas and very skeptical of mechanics. Reading the reviews I decided I’d check Ben white. I walked in with no appointment. Gary was very down to earth quoted me on a diagnostic for my overheating problem on my Infiniti. It was very fair. Quoted me for 30 min and an hour depending on how long it took. They squeezed me in, in a reasonable amount of time. The diagnostic was done rather quickly. He educated me on what I needed to do, Best part is he was honest and gave me my options based on my budget and overall health of my car. I will be taking my car back here. Thank you guys!!

I took my 2004 Odyssey van into Ben White Auto today, and they were able to repair my AC problems within 1.5 hours. I had called an other shop, but they wanted to schedule me out next week. Gary asked me to come by, I did, and I am glad I did. They had my AC working fast, and for a reasonable fee. I will definitely recommend them to my friends. Great service and easy going, no games, and all around good guys.

Ive taken all my vehicles to Ben White Auto because they quote me a fair price using a national pricing guide and never pressure me into getting something thats not needed. They always explain the best course of action to take for all repairs and leave the options up to me. I usually do most of my own repairs to my vehicles, but when I dont have the time or choose to have the repairs done by a professional, I trust it will be done right at a fair price at Ben White Auto. Gary was friendly, informative and very knowledgeable. The mechanic showed me my old parts and explained the service that was performed. Love this place!

Knowledgeable and DiligentGary is the manager and he is a good communicator, no surprises. Has a concern for safety. My 2001 2500 HD has a lot of miles. During a routine oil change the mechanic inspected the front end and noticed the wheels were about to fall off, literally. I went to see the issue and sure enough the ball joints were completely loose and clearly needed replacement. A full rebuild of the front end was an excellent choice since this truck is still awesome, but its a job that really requires attention to detail to get everything attached correctly and fully aligned. Once I had the tires rotated and balanced, this vehicle is driving perfectly, like it 5,000 miles instead 185,000. Thank you Gary I will be back and continue to recommend you and Ben White automotive.

Quality work for a fair price. Ive had the alternator, brakes, emergency brakes, engine tune up, and alignment done on my 09 Dodge Avenger. Theyve even corrected issues that other local tire and lube shops have botched on my vehicle. I definitely recommend them. The manager is Ron and he is a great man to be doing business with, as he is honest and straightforward about what your car really needs to be repaired.

These guys are the BEST!! I was having issues with my 05 Ford Explorer that I bought back in November and first took it to Covert Ford where I purchased it. After a week and a half of waiting, Covert Ford gave me the diagnosis and an absurd estimate. I called Ben White Auto, and talked with Gary, and let me tell you, Gary is the freakin man! He gave me an initial quote over the phone based on the estimate I received from Covert, and could beat that by $500. I had the vehicle towed to Gary late on Friday afternoon, he told me that they will get to work on it today, but have an estimate on Monday after they have some more time to look at it. He called me Monday around noon, and he gave me a completely different diagnosis and estimate that was $1300 less that what Covert gave me and said that he would have it ready to go on Tuesday for me. I went and picked up my Explorer and its running better than it has the entire time Ive had it. Gary and everyone at Ben White were honest, respectful, and will work on your vehicle as they would with their own. I cant thank these guys enough for the valuable information and service that was provided to me. I will always take any vehicle that I have to Gary and they guys over at Ben White Automotive!

Just left this shop, and am amazed with the service I got. Originating from Cleveand, OH seven years ago, I find it hard to locate a trustworthy and honest mechanic in Austin, and when I do have lost them all to new condos being built or moving out of the city. Took a chance on this place, after calling around to some other recommended shops- all claiming it would be 65-150$ just to put my car up on a rack to examine what was going on in my steering column. These guys took care of me and had me out in an hour.No BS kinda shop, with people who have morals and are honest about what they do and how to handle situations for repair.So glad that I went here this morning and highly recommend these guys to anyone out there still searching for a new mechanic.

I would like to extend a warm thank you to Oscar and Gary. They were very easy to work with, and they let my vehicle sit in their lot until I was able to pay them the money owed to fix my fuel pump. I brought my truck in to have a sunroof replaced. Ron was very communicative, the pricing was fair based upon other estimates, and the turnaround time was quick and over a holiday. One of the tail lights on my car went out, and I thought it would be easy to replace myself. After spending about an hour trying to do it myself, I decided to take it in somewhere. I had taken my car to Ben White Auto previously, and was pleased with their service so I decided to go there again. I went in at the very end of the day, and I was still out of there in 10 minutes. The guys there were very friendly, and didnt try to rip me off. I know its a very simple issue, but their customer service was awesome!

My car was shaking when I used to accelerates which could have been few different reasons. Ron (Owner) had it checked next day morning when i went in to confirm its not tires but axle is at fault. We got it fixed and the cost was competitive to some of stores in the area. The work done was also satisfactory. My wife likes the place as well so we would make a regular visit here.

I met the owner last summer boating. Seemed like a fair and honest person. My daughters car was having some trouble so I thought Id give them a try. The Service was excellent. Honest and fair about Prices and services to be rendered. Took a look at the sounds my car was making and explained why and what was needed to fix it. No high pressure or overselling, even said I could wait for as much as a year to fix it if I could stand the noise. Provided menu pricing for some other services I was interested in doing and left it up to me to decide if I wanted to do them. I came back a few weeks later and got done what I wanted timely and friendly.

The folks at Ben White automotive did a fantastic job on my 2001 Chevy 3/4 Ton - I had not driven it a lot for long time and there was a good number of things that needed attention. The owner Ron was very clear in the communication, they made extra effort to not do things that were not necessary and so saved me money. I used the truck to drag a trailer to Colorado and it was perfect, and now its been several months and the Air Conditioning, Brakes, Windows are all working perfectly. I am so glad to find a repair shop that is very competent, has concern for what they are doing, and tries to save me money.

I took my car to BWA-South before a long road trip out to Utah. I wanted to make sure that everything was on the up and up. They did a full check up, oil change and also addressed the starter issues I was having. The service was quick and top notch. Dropped the car off near closing time and picked it up the next day in the early afternoon.When I came to pick it up, they brought to my attention that my car was needing a transmission flush. I felt the work was thorough, precise, and of high caliber. I always felt that I was in good hands with these guys from the moment I spoke with them on the phone. My check engine light started flashing about 10 days ago. Had a Bozo mechanic take a look at it, who kept my car for an entire week. He could not figure out what was wrong.Called BWA and spoke with Kevin who was able to call me back the following morning with a diagnosis. By the end of the day I had my car back...ALL lights were gone from my dash and my car is running like a brand new car again.Really appreciate their courtesy and EXCELLENT customer service. They were VERY kind to me when my starter broke after driving from Fort Worth to Austin. I was stuck at the hotel and they were very accommodating and walked me through everything that was wrong. They charged a very fair price and have an adorable waiting area.I highly recommend this place to any locals or travelers. It was also only about a mile from my hotel. So the location is very convenient.

I have been a very satisfied customer of the south-side Ben White location since 1991. In my most recent experience on January 16, 2015, Ron Wier, the manager, was able to schedule the work on my Ford immediately and had a very good idea of the problem just from my telephone description. The work was completed quickly, properly, and for a reasonable charge. He also spent considerable time with me describing some future maintenance work which is required, and he outlined how the costs could be minimized. A very detailed record is maintained on each of my 3 vehicles. I was impressed with his expertise on Fords. Thus, I remain a happy customer and will continue to utilize the staff at Ben White Automotive. My wife also appreciates the coffee, tea, and hot chocolate which is available for the customers.

Always appreciate these fellows helping me out. I think their work is generally very good. Very solid. I trust them. If I take my car somewhere else for something minor and they say, Oh your [something or other] needs repair... I take my vehicle back to Ben White on Hwy 71 every time. I used to bring my car when I lived in Austin several years ago, and when I moved back I knew where I wanted to take my car for maintenance and repairs. The mechanics here are fair and dont try to take advantage of you. They clearly communicate what is wrong with your car, what problems result from those issues, and what it will take to fix it. I have found that they consistently charge below what other shops in Austin charge to fix the same problem.

I had my power steering pump and the ball joints replaced in my truck here. I was told the repairs would only take a day to compete. As it turned out it took a extra day to get everything completed. I was not happy about it. Ron offered to pay for a rental vehicle for me. I thought this was very kind and generous of them. Though I didnt chose to accept the rental I was very pleased with the gesture. I was also very happy with the price I vas given on all the work performed. I will take my truck there for future repairs. Very happy with the customer service

I brought my car in not knowing the exact problem, instead of yanking my chain and charging me a ton of money, I was told straight up what it would cost and they explained how it was not worth fixing. I had the car towed to the shop, the workers were very upfront and did not charge me a dime. I highly recommend this place if you want honesty and integrity with your car troubles. I give them 5 stars, no doubt about it.

I could not have asked for better service.I took my 07 F150 in for A/C service and was really pleased. Awesome service and they stand behind their work with a 2-year warranty!Im not a car guy so when they took their time to explain everything they needed to do and what it would cost, I really appreciated that. Great Guys, I came in for an engine tuneup 4 months ago, they had to order a part from anther state and that was going to take 3 days, I told him to go a head and order it, 2 hours later he called me and said he found a closer part and can get it here in 1 day. I was shocked, so nice that he didnt just give up looking for a local part. After the work was done i came to pick up my car late just after closing and make my payment, as i was leaving, One of the guys noticed one of my head light was out, he opened my car and installed a new light for free so i could make it home. I can speak more to the ethics and care that i received from this company, they have my business for life.

I ended up going with Ben white Automotive, and they had the tuff task of replacing a hard to reach starter done within a day of the part being ordered. Ron gave me an estimate for the cost of repairs, and when that cost rose due to unforeseen issues (rust, total brake line failure) he honored his original estimate. I have been in Austin for two years now and have been looking for a mechanic shop I trust with a small town feel. A couple of weeks ago my car broke down on I-35 and left me stranded. It was towed to Ben White Automotive and during this very stressful time Ron and Bobby took great care of me. They were very knowledgeable about everything and were extremely helpful. Since my car would no longer run I was stressed out about what I was going to do with it and moving it ASAP. Ron reassured me that I could leave it at the shop as long as it took. Our family trusts all of our cars to Ben White Automotive. Last year, our 2 cars needed major work and in March 2014, we took 3 vehicles there. Each vehicle needed extensive work, but we never felt overcharged or like they were recommending unnecessary work. We trust them and feel that their prices are competitive. They give very good explanations as to why repairs are needed. I have never felt comfortable or loyal to a car repair shop- until now. I would highly recommend them.

I took my car in because there was an odd humming going on in the front wheels. They quickly diagnosed the problem. New bearing needed. When I said I could not afford their price quote for the parts, they said I could shop around for the parts myself and they would be glad to install them. It worked out, and I was pleased.

This used to be my go-to place for work on all the family vehicles. I dont know if its the new management, but the service here has gone downhill. I took a vehicle in this spring for an opinion and estimate on a couple of issues.I brought the car in on Wednesday morning; didnt hear anything the rest of the day but understood they were busy. Nothing Thursday morning. I called them late Thursday afternoon, only to be put on hold and dropped. I finally got through to the manager on Friday morning, only to be told that they couldnt find anything wrong with either issue I came in about. Yet, I got an estimate for about $2700 to fix the non-existent issues. I was charged $50 for this estimate and I brought the car home on Friday. We didnt drive the car all weekend.Then, Monday morning, my wife was driving to work and her hood opened up on the highway at 65 mph, smashing in the windshield and scaring her half to death. Very lucky my kids werent in the car with her and it was after rush hour, but she managed to get off the highway and got a police officer to escort the car to safety. I called the shop and spoke with the manager, who said he consulted with the guy that did the work and he claims he closed the hood. Of course. He also told me that they were insured for this kind of thing which isnt exactly comforting.One insurance claim, the hassle of repair, a $500 deductible, and several months later and my insurance company still cant get this shop to even acknowledge they made a mistake. So much for them being insured for this. For crying out loud, they could have at least refunded us our 50 bucks for putting us through all of this hassle!Its too bad that this place has sunk so low. I could forgive poor customer service during a busy time, but incompetence to the point of likely causing a major safety issue to my family is disgraceful. Im done with these guys.

I had my transmission replaced here two years ago. They were very reasonable and pompt. Oscar is friendly and trustworthy. I have recommended them to all of my friends with car issues.

Though my repairs were costly (would have been anywhere b/c of the extent of damage), I was grateful for the thorough and non-salesman approach to fixing my car. Ron was very informative and friendly both in person and on the phone. Will be back.

Excellent job today!!! If you need cheap and honest repair shop, this is it!!!Today, i had a problem when i was in airport, my serpentine belt broke coz of something else which i dont know. I called this shop, and ask that if they can do it during the day or not. He told me that, they can do it asap! we went the shop with the insuraces towing truck. I went to the lunch and came back, 30 min later, he told me if i need to start my cars engine or not! i was shocked! i paid about half of what the others say!definitely best in town!

Ive been going to Ben White for all of my repairs for the past 3 years now. They are an honest, hardworking, and funny group. I have recommended them to many friends and colleagues and we say enough great things about them.

Took my truck in to get a quote due to worn out brakes and a damaged rear shock. I had already assessed the damage myself and just wanted a quote. I dropped it off at 9 a.m. and was told I would be called back promptly with the price. I did not get a call back until almost 4 p.m. This is after I waited a day for a call back on a preliminary quote they were going to give me before taking it in, which I never got.Not only was their pricing astronomical, my grandfather has a truck shop near San Antonio, so I know my prices for labor and parts and what is and is not fair, and they wanted to charge me nearly $500 over the actual cost of the parts, and almost $1,200 in labor, to change out 1 brake rotor, caliper, and shock.....To top it off when I went in the next morning to pick it up, someone had rifled through my center console, some of its contents were in the back seat and I had brought it in completely clean, and a very special custom Buck knife was missing. When I asked the older gentleman upfront about this, he said: Well I can not be held liable for what happens before we actually bring it inside while it sits in front, and my guys would not steal. If you have an issue with this and do not believe me you will have to obtain the address of the owner and send in a letter, but he probably will not do anything about it. Now shame on me for leaving it in there in the first place, I did not think I needed to worry about it, but the attitude I was given when I asked thoroughly irked me.I will not be going back, and I WILL deter anyone who asks about a mechanic or otherwise from visiting. Keep your money, and your belongings safe, go elsewhere!

Had struts replaced. Not a cheap task. They were cheaper than the dealership and did the work quickly. Tough spot to get to but great bedside manner and really quick turnaround.

I have taken my car to Ben White South for the last two years and both years in addition to the other repairs that were completed on the car they did what needed to be done to the car to clear the check engine light and allow the car to pass inspection. What I especially like about them is that after they have done the repairs they will drive the car however far it needs to be driven to get the check engine light to go out. That way when I pick up the car I can drive it straight over to an inspection station and it will pass inspection. I am impressed with their knowledge and equipment that they use and the prices seem fair to me for what they did to the car.

In my opinion “the best mechanic in Austin TX, Honest, onetime when they say something will be done and fair in pricing. Hard to find a mechanic like this nowadays

Ive been here so many times now that Ive moved to Austin. Rons awesome to talk to on the phone, up front about everything, and they have good pricing. Ive had multiple things repaired by this auto shop, from break lines to a leaky power steering hose. If my car is acting up, theyre the first place I call. Id recommend them to anyone. If you havent found an auto shop to trust in yet, this is your place.

I was extremely pleased with the service, repair, and cost. They offered the fairest price in town for labor and did not mark up the parts. Im not very knowledgeable about cars and was frustrated with the quotes I was receiving from other mechanics when shopping around. When I called BWA, they told me that the others were completely ripping me off, offered me a MUCH fairer price, and took the time to explain exactly what was needed. They even took the time to check for any other problems (with no charge), recommended a few things, but were honest about the fact that it was not crucial that it be fixed immediately and did not try to pressure me into fixing it until it was actually needed. The repair was done quickly and well. They made it a point to encourage me to bring it back if I felt the least bit unsatisfied.. which I definitely was not. I will be taking my business to these guys from now on.

The staff of Ben White Automotive were helpful, friendly, and professional. My infant son and I were in town for medical appointments and the AC of my vehicle went out in 102 degree weather. I found their shop and they quickly helped us get back on the road! They made a frustrating situation a little better!
