Thomas was able to do a free quote for me very quickly after I called, and was able to fit us in the schedule. He was on-time, and his crew was fast and efficient. We had numerous bushes and trees removed and the yard looks better than ever. We will definitely be calling Thomas again to continue work on our backyard this fall. His prices were very fair considering the speed and quality of the work!

After a hurricane hit the week before and made my tree into toothpicks sending it into neighbors driveway. If I could rate them a 6, I absolutely would. I found myself in a tough situation when I received notice from the condo association that a tree in my yard had to come down. And basically immediately due to their oversight in missing this tree during earlier inspections in advance of fence replacements.I have used Heart of Wood for tree trimming services in the past and they are flexible, rates are so affordable, and their employees are kind and professional. First, every time I have called Heart of Wood, Tom has answered the phone and bent over backwards to provide an estimate almost immediately, usually within 24 hours. Even if they were not able to trim immediately, I knew how much to budget for the work. In this situation, I was so thankful that they had unexpected availability due to some incoming weather. They were able to take the tree down in an afternoon. Even better, their estimate for the work was on par with the deeply discounted rate the condo association offered for their oversight.I also wanted to add that the men who showed up were professional, constantly moving, and even took into account where they placed their truck so as to avoid dust and debris from the tree grinder landing on cars in the parking lot. They left a half a dozen stumps from the tree at my request and then cleaned EVERYTHING. I cannot say enough great things about this company, its leadership, and its employees

Heart of Wood fixed my yard! After several years of ignoring my trees, we noticed the backyard had become a cave and no grass would grow. The Hamptons of McLean is a community of 124 townhomes in downtown McLean. Twenty-one Bradford pear trees line our property along Old Dominion Drive with another 27 Bradford pear trees within the community. Definitely recommend, very responsive. We had a large oak snap off in a storm which caused a safety issue. They were onsite and had the limbs removed very quickly. Cleaned up the mess and left the yard clean and in great shape.

Thomas is very responsive, was more than $500 less than a competitor - in large part because he was more thoughtful about the work needing to be done - I needed a magnolia pruned to meet HOA requirements and rather than sheer it, he saw a more tailored approach. Ive asked for his review and estimate on work at my new home and he came by the same day I asked, reviewed all the trees on my property, made thoughtful recommendations. Will be using him for this work and keeping him in my rolodex! Highly recommend.

I had two big trees that needed to be removed and then the stumps grinded. The Heart of the Wood performed both of these services for me, at a price the was similar to other providers. In addition, the men that did the work were very courteous, did a very good job in doing what I wanted, and made sure that the place was very clean after all the work had been done. Thomas and his crew took down a large diseased oak in our backyard. The area was very difficult to access and was surrounded by gardens that we did not want him to damage. They were very careful and did an excellent job of innovating ways to access the tree without hurting the garden. We were extremely impressed and intend to use his services again. We have recommended him to all of our friends and family.

The did an amazing job of cutting my neighbors gigantic weed tree (and not the recreational weed). It had grown all into the power lines and the cable lines too and they cut it back from those. There pricing was by far the best of all the companies I contacted. Highly recommend them as they do what they say which is evidently a rarity!

I can’t say enough about how pleased I am with Heart of Wood. From my first contact with Thomas Spencer, through the removal of broken/dead tree branches, removal of 2 small trees and some huge honeysuckles, and stump removal- they are prompt, professional, efficient, and reasonable. Im very happy that I gave this team a chance. Everything went smoothly, no hard sell at all with great communication from start to finish. Although I initially wanted minimal work done (trimming some large dead branches from a huge oak tree) using an Angies List deal, after a no-pressure evaluation of my property I decided to do work I initially thought would be cost-prohibitive at this time based on previous quotes. Before any work was done Thomas inspected my property to confirm what I wanted and gave a detailed quote breaking down my options several ways to combine different items for a more bang for the buck if done at once. I had no intention of doing more than original scope, but in the end I had a HUGE branch (actually a 1/3 of a split trunk on a fully grown 100 foot maple) removed which posed some threat to my roof if it came down (yes, it worried me but cost of removing that monster caused me to push it off year after year), all original work plus more branches trimmed for extra light. A nearly identical split maple trunk 20 feet away looked almost the same but I was told that it was, unlike the removed one, no threat and healthy enough to stay. This was a refreshing honest assessment. With competitive quotes from others for comparison from years past this was still done a under budget and trees cut sections handled properly to insure health of remaining branches or trunks - could barely tell. Everything was done without me home and when I inspected that night it looked as if no-one was ever there - everything cleaned up down to the last leaf. It was a real pleasure dealing with THoW. I am already planning to bring them back next year for more mature tree maintenance even without Angies List discount and happily recommended to several people.

The Heart of Wood removed two large limbs from a mature silver maple that was hanging over our house. From start to finish, the entire team was professional, communicative, responsible, and effective, and we couldnt have been happier.At the proposal stage, The Heart of Wood evaluated the tree in its entirety, noting what was necessary to maintain balance and tree health, as well as offering to fill holes in order to prevent rot. They even drew a diagram of the tree, so we were sure what was being removed.The day of removal, the crew arrived on time and did a beautiful job removing the necessary limbs. They cleaned up not only our yard, but also our neighbors yards, making sure no debris had blown anywhere.Perhaps most telling, when the crew discovered that some baby squirrels were in a nest inside one of the hollow, removed limbs, they used bark to gently place the babies back in their nest, covering them to ensure they were safe.The Heart of Wood isnt just a great company, theyre great people, and we plan to use them for all of our future tree needs!
