Keith, was impressively honest and suggested that we see one of his competitors for the service I was requesting. He gave a great explanation of the quality of work they do, but was honest enough to say that he was not competitive in the price of this particular service I need done. I greatly appreciate the honesty. This is a rare fine in an automotive service industry. Thanks, Ill check in with you next time I have a service need.

These guys are now my go to shop in Anchorage. Direct, no BS, great communication, did quality work and did it for the estimated price and had the truck back to me when they said they would. Great customer service and ethics! Thanks Keith, you guys do great work.

Had not previously heard of Specialty Truck & Auto, a friend recommended them for some work on my Dodge pickup. Long story short, these guys are now my go to shop in Anchorage. Direct, no BS, great communication, did quality work and did it for the estimated price and had the truck back to me when they said they would. And then checked in a few days later to make sure I was satisfied with the work. I wish every place I went had half their customer service ethic. Thanks Keith, you guys do great work.

Clearly just want you to make appointments to charge you more as well as condescending employees that dont want to assist you unless to book or check in for an appointment

Called on 3 different occasions asking questions about getting work done. Owner was rude and condescending each time I called. I understand theres only so much they can do over the phone, but a little customer service goes a long way. Dont treat potential customers like theyre stupid.

My wife started going here while I was deployed and we try to only go here. One of our GMs has over 275K miles and I credit Specialty Auto helping us get there. If you need coddling or pampering when being talked to this isn’t the place for you. If you need honest work and frankness, this is the place to go.

I agree with other reviews about high prices and mediocre customer service. I brought my car in with a check engine light, and the labor cost was $400 to replace a part that is easier to replace than one spark plug. I kindly asked for an explanation of how they came to the price and if maybe I could get a discount. But, all I got was a lecture about profit margins and how people like to think mechanics have a magic tool to fix everything. For me, high prices are worth it if they come with a good explanation, quality, and a friendly experience; I didnt get one of these.

Excellent service and the owner Keith is an outstanding supporter of local community and military causes. I use Specialty Truck for all 3 of my vehicles (Dodge, Toyota and Honda) for years and have never had any problems. I highly recommend Specialty Truck and Auto.

Very unhappy with their service. Way over priced on parts and labor. Could have gotten the same work done at another local shop for half the price. They tried to up sell on dozens of unrelated items. I will never use Specialty Truck & Auto again. I would not recommend this shop to anyone looking for reasonable competitive charges.

I had a terrible experience here. Poor customer service, high price tag and my vehicle was not repaired properly. I ended up having to take my truck to another local shop to have the work redone. 😡

Having heard several varying reviews over a few decades, thought to stop by and ask about an overhaul repair of a small 4x4 truck with full mechanical manual drivetrain. Upon going into the retail office and waiting around there several minutes (perhaps 3) I went out and looked into open garage bays to see if anyone wasnt working on some vehicle or with a customer in the work area; a few werent totally occupied. So I returned to main entrance (where door signals audible chimes each time) and waited another several minutes. The owner(?) Keith by then chose to look and met me outside, on my way to leave. I only wanted an approximation and tried to survey their abilities; as a 56+ year resident of the local area, Ive seen shops come and go. A good name does not indicate the present staff was responsible when someone thought they got a fair deal.{..I give him (owner) One Star because he came to see about the Bell..}I can do many kinds of work, including mechanical repair. However I also have other commitments on my time. The generic reply to anything involving repair there is: we never give estimates (without inspection) and this was said in reply to any different question about servicing my 1992 GM powered 4x4 small pickup. A little while later, he told me that because of your attitude that hed probably not want to see my vehicle in his shop. My point was not about an estimate. He misses out on customer relations, human relations, and being friendly. Thats fine.A glass-eyed taxidermy piece has more personality, (than Keith) if done correctly. There are several great shops in southcentral AK, and Ive referred good people to better places than his. As I was leaving, I told some prospective customers that there are much better shops if one wants to do a little research. In some cases, the brand dealerships are also competitive and reasonably priced. They try to keep a good reputation in a small town like Anchorage. Some will drive or have their dead car flat-bedded to a big city; but only if the great local mechanic is on vacation or down with flu.Because I have done mechanical repair and know a bit more than the average victim these people leech from, their offense is understood. Also, Ive been here more than half a century; done all kinds of trades work to professional levels. And also donate free time to anyone who needs help. Or a repair, in the case of electronics, and larger devices that use them. But Im not a genius expert; sometimes I can approach that level though. And provide online support in some highly regarded corporate free help sites, too.But this Specialty place isnt so great. Various small town mechanics from Homer, Kenai, Seward etc. have superior hands-on with great personal and customer service skills. As this goes on, im sure to see this place go under if not this decade, maybe after the next. All it takes is an non-attentive employee or one whose been under-appreciated, for a fair business (or one skating by on former glories) to take the last dive to never resurface again. A few great names to get recycled; some only after a false re-start only to be sold at inflated value.Good luck & happy trails! :)

Also very unhappy... my check engine light was on misfire on cylinder 6. They said did test told me I was running the wrong spark plugs which I just got. So charged me 300 bucks in labor 65 in parts. 2 weeks later light comes back on come to find out its not the spark plugs. Its a rip off dont go

Someone wanting to buy my truck wanted Specialty Truck & Auto to do a buyers inspection on my truck, So I let them do the inspection. These guys must never have gone to any school because he told the guy buying my truck I had internal engine issues because my cooling system was not building pressure, so I asked him what makes him think I have internal issues and have you checked the radiator cap? He replied with I didnt do any diagnostics to find out why it isnt building pressure. So again I asked why he would then lead the guy to believing there were internal issues, and that is when he hung up the phone on me. Very Unprofessional people at this shop. Dont waste your time here.By the way, tested the cap at a different shop and the cap tested bad. $8 later and the problem is solved however the buyer decided not to buy my truck because of their lack of professionalism.
