I had Alex replace a water pump and thermostat for me on a BMW 328xi. He did the job for exactly what he quoted and not a penny more. He did a great job and I’m really happy to find someone who shares my passion for German cars and knows what he’s doing. Call and get a quote, you’ll appreciate his prices. When you call, remember that he’s one guy, not a dealership with 10 technicians. He’s a small business owner with one lift, not a dealership with several lifts and new loaner cars. He might not be able to get your car in as soon as you’d like, but when he does, you and your wallet will be happy.

Alex is great and his work with german automobiles is greatly appreciated. He has been keeping my 2001 Volkswagen Passat running for at least 5 years now. As a small shop, Alex is able to explain whats wrong and what needs to be fixed in a way the average german car owner can understand.

I had a 02 Jetta TDI that developed a ticking sound. I thought for sure it was a engine noise especially creeping on 500K miles. However Alex found it to be a fuel injector. He recommended a camshaft replacement and mild tune as well. After he busted his chops he had it done in no time and it ran better than I ever remember running!! I don’t have that car anymore although I wish I could chase it down and call it my own again. Rest assured, If I did, I’d continue to make the drive from Omaha to Sioux Falls to make sure the best tech for the job could work on it!! A+ all around!!

I havent been to Vdub in a good while, but I like the way Alex works. He is very honest about the work that is needed and he knows a lot and is super familiar with Audi and Volkswagen vehicles. He chooses high quality parts for repair. Labor can get pretty expensive here, but youre driving a luxury vehicle so get used to it. It will usually be cheaper and done better than at the dealer, though. The only place where I have to knock him a point is availability. I needed a timing belt service done and he wasnt available at the time. I called several times over a span of two weeks and wasnt able to reach him. I ended up doing the work myself. Not bad! That said, he is usually available from my experience, so if you can schedule an appointment, I would recommend.

The owner of this place is very knowledgeable, especially about Volkswagens and Audis. If you have either of these cars, this is the place to take it. I brought in a car without an appointment, and he had it fixed within a day and a half. Great service, very knowledgeable.

Had a great experience getting our Q5 tuned up and oil changed! Alex has probably forgotten more about Audi vehicles that most mechanics and techs will every learn. He gave great insight on little things to do between oil changes and maintenance and had a *ton* of tips on how to setup and customize the inner workings of our vehicle. If you have an Audi, you owe it to your ride to let Alex take care of it!!

Not impressed. If you say someones car will be ready at a certain time...then it better be. If its not then you should contact them and let them know. Also, other places provide pictures as proof that they actually assessed your car instead of guessing what the issue might be. This results in a waste of the customers time and money in some situations where those theories turn out to be incorrect. Last, if you say theres going to be a follow up of some sort then keep your word.

I was on a road trip out to the Black Hills of SD with my brother in law when his diesel Passat went into limp mode and had no power. We were able to get to Luverne MN with a police escort and the dealership we stopped at diagnosed a dirty mass airflow sensor was the issue. They cleaned it and it was running better but we didnt really get a good diagnosis of why there was oil that was in the system causing the sensor to throw a code and put the car into limp mode. We decided to stop to see Alex at V Dub to have him look at it when we hit Sioux Falls and we were certainly saved as he looked at the car for us and expertly diagnosed oil blow by getting to the sensor caused by a cracked hose. Alex had a donor car on site with the hose we needed and installed it so we could be on our way. Alex knew what to check when the dealership did not. Thank you Alex! We completed the journey with no further mechanical issues.

Best mechanic in Sioux Falls dealing with Audi, VW and BMW. I am one of the Alex brothers as much as I know about him hes very honest and works very hard. He take customers first before he takes care family >.> And we love our Audi and VW in the family Alex and David has mechanical gene. David is still has school still so he tries to help out as much as he can. Only have one thing to say to customers you guys Alex is not made of steel. Be grateful that someone like Alex existing who deals Audi, VW and BMW think of him as a unicorn to all your Audi, VW or bmw he take care of it as it owned 😊😊😊

Vdub Auto is the only place I will take my BMW. Alex always takes the time to explain to me what is wrong when I have a problem, or why something should be done when I have maintenance that is due. He has been the only place I have found in Sioux Falls who actually uses the correct Motul brand Full Synthetic European motor oil. I like that he takes the time to diagnose a problem, rather than just start replacing parts and hoping it fixes it. When I have had a part that needs to be replaced he always takes the time to find me the best value, not just the cheapest part that he can make the most money on. He knows I want quality parts on my car, and doesnt just buy whatever is in stock down the road at the parts store. He usually can get his hands on the original BMW part within a day or so, which saves me time and money in the long run. I only wish he worked on jeeps too, not just European stuff!

My honest review is that this place was garbage. I took it to Alex because of all the great reviews and was very disappointed. I had a coolant leak and he told me it was the Thermostat when I brought it to him on a Tuesday morning and it would be done by 4pm Wednesday. Around 4:30pm I get no call and show up and my car looked like it was parked in the same exact spot it was before so I was skeptical but trusted him. So after the $450 fix it didnt fix anything. I took it to a friend of mines shop in Minnesota 3 hours away and found out I had 2 leaks coming from the water pump and the other from the thermostat where it wasnt sealed correctly. I dont think thermostat being sealed incorrectly was Alexs fault honestly but for them to find 2 leaks is what upset me and knew I was right when my car was in the same spot. He also said it was another hose that was coming that he was supposed to replace and would give me a call when it was in and still no call and this was over a month ago.

When my Jetta broke down near Sioux Falls, I had it towed to VDUB. I told Alex it was likely the ignition coil, but he said hed found the issue, the wrong type of spark plugs. He also offered to replace an aging hose while doing the spark plugs, and I figured why not? Three reasons.1. The issue was in fact the ignition coil. Meaning the Jetta chugg-a-lugged down the highway, and was in an unusable state until I got it back to the Big City, where it turned out that the ignition coil was in fact the culprit. Well, everyone gets a mulligan. Oh well.2. As it happened, someone had also put the spark plugs in backwards when installing them. Oops.3. The vacuum hose that Alex replaced worked fine. However, the vacuum hose happens to rest alongside the sealer for the radiator hose. That sealer was partially unseated when the vacuum hose was replaced. Eventually the sealer came totally undone, leading the engine to heat up, and to even more work being done. I took care to prevent the engine from being damaged, but this was simply careless and the mistake could have trashed the car. VDUB was the only place any work was done alongside the sealer for the radiator hose before it came undone. Ack.- So, a hotel stop, a few bumpy rides, and two visits to other mechanics to correct three mistakes made at VDUB Auto Repair. Not a big deal, but I would probably look elsewhere for maintenance or repair on a VW. Of course, its probably best to avoid the whole VW thing in the first place.
